Hey everyone, I'm Ann. Welcome to another mini episode of the Let's Get Naked podcast. We're working through a series titled Rooted in Fear. Our fourth and final mini in this series is do it anyway. All right, here's where we stop talking about fear and start running straight at it. Because awareness is cute, but action is what changes your life. You've already identified the fear, you've already named it. Cool. Now what? Here's the move. Give yourself 20 seconds of insane courage. That's it. Not forever. Not I'm fearless now. Just the 20 seconds where you override the voice in your head and do the damn thing anyway. Send the message. Say the truth. Make the move. Hit publish. Because fear wants you frozen. Fear wants you overthinking. Fear wants you sitting on the sidelines of your own life and watching everybody else go for it. No, you're not the audience. You're the main character. So let's reality check this real quick. What are you actually afraid of? Rejection? Cool. It could happen. Failure? Yep. On the table. Looking stupid? Absolutely. And do it anyway. Because the worst case scenario you're playing on repeat in your head, most of the time it doesn't happen. And even when it does, you handle it. You always do. There's that moment, you know the one, where you do the scary thing, but your heart's racing, adrenaline's up, and then you're on the other side. Like, wait, did I die? Nope. You didn't. You just proved to yourself that fear doesn't get to run your life anymore. So stop waiting to feel ready. Stop negotiating with your comfort zone. Pick the thing you've been avoiding and give it 20 seconds. Because that's how you stop living. Excuse me, that's how you stop living small and start actually living. Today I'm here with Britney, who has agreed to come talk about fear with me, which is awesome. She was afraid to come, but she said yes, anyways, because she did the whole 20 seconds. We had a gal on uh her name is Braysha, shout out to her, who had that 20-second thing. And it is so powerful when you think, okay, I don't want to do this, I don't want to do this, just for a 20 seconds, sack up and do the thing, you know. Introduce yourself to the cute boy was her ex you know example, or do the thing that really is scaring you and just see. Um, will you right before we started recording this one? Brittany had brought up the whole Monsters Inc. thing, and I would really love for you to do that analogy because we were talking about social media being super toxic and how that is absolutely a rooted in fear situation where they prey on that, right? Politics, social media, regular media. Yeah, it is. So remind us about the monsters ink because I think there's so many fun things in the in the kids' movies that we forget about when we get older, but that's a really excellent one. So we please.

The movies I grew up on were so good for being a kid at that time. And yeah, so it was like the the whole point of the monsters ink is to make energy for the town or the city, whatever the place. And they would do it by getting children to scream, as like the monsters do. You come out your closet, you get them to scream. But the movie goes through, and you know, obviously it's not a good thing to scare the crap out of kids. Um, and you know, they're at the end of the movie, it ends up transitioning until like they're getting the kids to laugh. And it gives the same amount of energy, it's the same effort put into it versus like getting someone scared, making someone angry, having that negative feeling versus like making someone happy, making someone laugh. It's the same amount of energy, it's just a different way that you produce it. And so it is like we could we could absolutely focus on the happiness and the love and the beauty that is in social media, and it very much could be a wonderful thing, but it is. There's just a lot of fear-mongering, a lot of like hate and negativity. But I think that shift is closer than we think, and we just have to keep focusing on the positivity because it's right there.

Here's the deal: your life isn't going to magically fix itself. Nobody's coming to save you, but you can learn how to save yourself. That's what this book is. It's a no BS guide to stop outsourcing your happiness, stop making excuses, and start living with purpose. If you're tired of waiting for someday, consider this your wake-up call. Someday is today. I agree with you, and I think the more people that say, I'm not going to live in fear, I'm not going to be one that perpetuates the fear, I'm not going to jump on the bandwagon when there are other people that say, Oh my God, look at this one thing that happened, right? Whatever it is that's happening in our world politically, or you know, all of the things that are scary out there, rather than continuing to jump on that bandwagon and repost and whatever, find the kindness, find the laughter, find the happiness, find those things, spread that, right? Let's get back to dinosaur, inflatable dinosaur costumes of people farting in them. That's what makes Cameron laugh. It doesn't have to be like that. I don't know why you're not a way that makes me so happy, but it's like listening to him giggle about that. Because, you know, Cameron and I don't plug into any of the No happiness is way better than screaming.

SPEAKER_00

It totally is, right?

SPEAKER_01

The laughs and the funny, whatever your funny is. Send those around, not like, oh my God, can you believe that a woman got stabbed today and whatever? Sure. Those things have, those terrible things have been happening forever. Forever. We just now have platforms where we can like spread that shit like wildfire to one another. And what does that do? It gets you in your house, locked in, fearful, closing off family members because they don't agree with what your what your beliefs are. News flash, ding-dong. Everyone is not supposed to believe the exact same thing. Open your mind, uh, you know, to just different perspectives. Understand that, you know, inherently human nature is actually really great. Let's lean into those things and the connection instead of fear and division. And I'm just so over that. And I think so many people are. So then take this as the PSA that it is and do your part, right? Visualize the monsters ink thing and say, do I want to be one of the monsters that is making the kids scream, or do I want to be one that's making them laugh? Because we all have that power in that. So many people feel powerless because they're like, what do I have control over? What can I do? Don't be one of the assholes that's spreading fear. Do not be one of the assholes that's spreading fear, right? Karen, go ahead and set your title down. We don't need it anymore. We're all set, right? Spread love, spread laughter, spread hope, spread kindness. Wherever you find that in your life, get outside, put your damn phone down, right? That's how we make a difference. Individually, inside of your own household, not outside where you're screaming into the void about what you don't agree with. No one cares. Cut it out. And that's all we're gonna say about that.
