Hey everyone, I'm Anne. Welcome to another mini episode of the Let's Get Naked podcast. Today we're working through a series titled Rooted in Fear. Our third mini in this series is the danger of making decisions from fear. Here's where fear really screws you. It doesn't just show up in moments, it starts making your decisions for you. And if you're not paying attention, you can build an entire life rooted in fear and call it responsible. You pick the safe job, not the right one. You stay in the relationship, not because it's aligned, but because it's familiar. You don't say the thing because you don't want to rock the boat. That's not strategy, that's fear making executive decisions. And it shows up everywhere. Parenting from fear, now you're controlling instead of guiding. You're protecting instead of preparing. You're raising kids who learn to avoid life instead of face it. Work decisions from fear, you play small, you overthink. You stay quiet in rooms, you should be leading. Life planning from fear, you build a life that looks good on paper, but feels tight, restricted, and exhausting to actually live. Because fear doesn't expand your life, it shrinks it. It keeps you safe, but it also keeps you stuck. And here's the shift: making decisions from a place that's not rooted in fear doesn't mean you suddenly feel confident all the time. It means you stop letting fear be the deciding factor. You still feel it, but it doesn't get the final vote. You choose honesty over comfort, alignment over approval, growth over control. And yeah, sometimes that's uncomfortable as hell, but it's also where your life actually starts to open up. Because the second you stop building your life around avoiding fear, you start building a life that actually feels like yours. So check yourself. The decisions you're making right now, are they expanding your life or are they just protecting you from discomfort? Because those are not the same thing. Today I'm being joined by Brittany, who is here to, I would say, talk with me, but she's also being pretty mean throughout these minis. And so we're just gonna lean all the way into that. Fear love, but you say that for. Okay, so talk to me about this one. What is what is this bringing up for you? Making decisions based on fear.

Yeah, it it's I think it's so easy to do. I mean, the natural knee-jerk reaction is protect yourself, stay safe. Like, how am I gonna get to tomorrow? I feel like very animalistic in that every human just wants to have their children, protect their children, have their family, like, you know, be part of their community. We all have the same core wants and beliefs, but it is coming from love, is a great beautiful thing where you're sharing and everybody's happy. But if it's from fear, then you're like locking yourself in your house and shutting the blinds. And like it's a totally different understanding.

SPEAKER_00

I think social media is such the toxic breeder of fear. Uh it scares me for our society because I just think there is so much fear that comes from uh from social media. But you know, when I when I come from this place of understanding that making work decisions rooted in fear, uh parenting rooted in fear, making your life decisions rooted in fear. Uh, God, there's a different game. There's just such a different game. And when you say, when you make a commitment to yourself to just start getting savagely self-aware about where you are making decisions rooted in fear, you can really open your eyes and get curious and then try something different. Because unless you lived the exact best day of your life yesterday and wouldn't change a thing, there's room for improvement. And really getting curious about what does that bring up for me? Where did I make that decision and what did I feel like when I did that? I feel, you know, when I referenced the parenting from fear, that was a big realization for me, not only from the parenting side of it, but also just realizing where maybe I was playing something safe, or maybe I was doing things because just everything fear-based. Energy is everything. And most of us are spending it like drunk gamblers at a Vegas blackjack table. My book is built around one simple but powerful tool: quantifying your energy so you know exactly where it's going and how to get more of it back. Think of it as a manual for your soul's fuel tank. If you're tired of running on empty, this book will show you how to fill back up and keep yourself in the game long enough to actually win. Get your copy of the Life Hack Playbook on Amazon or on the podcast website, let's get nakedpodcast.com. You know, the parenting is a hard one. You know, when when your sister was going through really hard times with suicidal stuff, that's a slam that right into the fear-based thing for sure. And I I do not know how to navigate that well, but I do know that I felt like garbage when I was really parenting from that place of fear because I knew I wasn't doing it right. You're almost, you're almost a hostage to something. You know, the the giving little kids phones uh really, really is another one that that jumps out at me as far as parenting from fear, because I think a lot of people are, well, you know, little Johnny doesn't want to be the only kid that has a phone, and I don't want him to be embarrassed and like blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So you're making a decision based on fear because you don't want your kid to not like you or not approve of your whatever.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, it's it's it's really, really, really savagely uh disgusting to look at that. Not no judgment. I've I've I've been kids are scary. Right. And so so, but look you looking at that and saying, I will not do that from fear, take a minute. Don't just don't just respond to something when you're asked. Get curious about why it makes you feel a certain type of way, uh, and then respond from the place of what's important to you and raising your kids instead of the fear of them not fitting in with everyone else. You know, I think that's that's a big a big component. You know, what are you making decisions on for your work? I'm I'm afraid of losing uh, you know, my 401k or of this or of that. And so people stay in jobs that are slowly sucking their soul out of the bottom. We're not meant to do that, you guys. Every everyone knows that. You know, when you're talking about not everyone knows that, I shouldn't say it like that. It sounded like a total dick move. So sorry. Everyone does not know that. It's pretty obvious. Um it's a just everyone listening knows. Sometimes shit comes out of my mouth, and I'm like, that is not how I meant for it to come out. And also, we're rolling. And so, you know, I don't need people to like, you know, reach out and say, like, oh, you misspoke there. Yeah, I misspake, I misspoke speak all the time. Like that happens all the time. So I said infinite one time, and it was like, I totally meant finite, not infinite. And also I sound like a ding-dong. Don't care. I can't be, I can't have this fear of like, what will people think? Uh, how will this come off? What if I don't say the right thing? You know, I I mentioned in one of the last episodes, we're working on the teleprompter thing, and so I'm reading some stuff and I'm mispronouncing some things, and I have the the you know, the pause in between stuff. Um, I can't just do my opening rant without writing it down because it would sound like a like a squirrel on crack. And and that doesn't read well to other people. And so does that mean I'm sometimes gonna have um the the emphasis on the wrong syllable? Yes, it does, you know. Syllable, you know. Yes, it does. I'm I'm going to do all of those things and mess up. But if I am afraid of sounding stupid or being judged or uh, you know, having that be something where people laugh and whatever, okay. And then what happened? Did you die? I saw that clip the other day and it just made my heart happy from the hangover where the guy's telling him something and he's like, Oh, this whole thing, you know, and I da da da da he goes, but did you die? Like, no, I didn't. So I'm just gonna start it was pretty good. Exactly. Sounds like it was pretty good. I have a good story about you know you busting my balls about buckets for fear and love. Of course, that's all yeah, that's all we're gonna say about that.
