Let's Get Naked
Let's Get Naked isn't about getting naked physically.
It's about stripping away the excuses, the ego, the victim stories, the BS we've all been dragging around, and taking an honest look in the mirror.
Every week, Anne Karber sits down with incredible guests—and occasionally goes off on her own—to tackle the conversations most people avoid. Emotional maturity. Relationships. Success. Failure. Trauma. Politics. Parenting. Addiction. Leadership. Money. Fear. Identity. Personal responsibility. Nothing's off limits.
If you're looking for polished interviews full of rehearsed talking points and inspirational clichés...you're probably in the wrong place.
If you're ready to laugh, get uncomfortable, challenge your own thinking, and maybe realize you've been making your own life harder than it needs to be...welcome.
Around here we believe:
- You can disagree without becoming enemies.
- Your triggers are teachers.
- Your past explains you, but it doesn't excuse you.
- Personal responsibility is freedom.
- Fixing your own shit is one of the greatest gifts you can give everyone around you.
Some episodes will make you laugh.
Some will punch you in the emotional face.
The best ones usually do both.
So pull up a chair, leave your ego at the door, and...
Let's Get Naked.
Disclaimer (Because Apparently We Need One)
Let's get a few things straight...
I'm not a therapist. I'm not a psychologist. I'm not a psychiatrist. I'm not your life coach. I don't even play one on the internet.
I'm just a curious human who has spent a ridiculous amount of time fixing my own shit, talking to fascinating people, asking uncomfortable questions, and occasionally saying the quiet part out loud.
This show is full of stories, opinions, observations, questionable analogies, wildly inappropriate laughter, and an unhealthy amount of oversharing. If something resonates, awesome. If it inspires you to look at your own life a little differently, even better.
But this podcast is not therapy, medical advice, legal advice, financial advice, or permission to text your ex.
If your life is genuinely kicking your ass, please go talk to someone who's actually qualified. Asking for help is badass.
Also, the opinions shared here belong to us, our guests, and whoever was brave enough to sit in front of the microphones that day. They don't represent our employers, sponsors, families, neighbors, or anyone else who'd probably prefer plausible deniability.
Now that we've handled the grown-up stuff...
Take what serves you.
Leave what doesn't.
And for the love of all things holy...
Fix your shit.

Hey everyone, I'm Anne. Welcome to Let's Get Naked Book Club Edition. The Life Hack Playbook was written to hand out a few cheat codes for being human. These conversations take those lessons off the page and into real life. Let's get naked. Today I'm joined by Brittany, who's going to go through chapter one with me on energy being Skittles and how we visualize that in our life and how that reads in the book. I'm doing this because, again, obviously I wrote the book because I think it's super important. I spend a lot of energy putting this message out there. But everyone in my village says this is the one, this is the game changer, this is the thing that really makes the huge difference. And so thank you, Brittany, for joining. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Thank you for having me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely. To help kind of hit this one home for those that aren't familiar with it. You know, I think, I think I'm um swimming upstream and trying to convince people to read books, which it is, because a lot of people don't read, and I totally understand that, you know, and so it was like, okay, great. After a few months, I was like, I'll record the audible version, you know, because I would get feedback, especially from men of like, I don't read. And I don't blame you, right? Like I'm an avid reader because I really enjoy doing it and it feels, you know, like me time and all of the things, but most people don't have time for that. So it's like, okay, audible version and put it in your, put it in your truck while you're drive. And then I'm getting feedback, you know, the the stuff that really feeds my soul is the, you know, the 40-year-old angry big truck uh driver. And I'm working with those guys and getting this feedback from them that's like, okay, I gotta, I gotta yell louder because the feedback that I'm getting is so life-changing when they realize and they're able to visualize it this way, um, that I feel it's irresponsible not to share this visualization. So in life, we're visual learners, you know, most of us. And so when you talk about energy, a lot of people think it's woo, you know, and I use all of these things where I'm like, yeah, but you know, you don't see Wi-Fi either, and we all tap into that. And yet it still doesn't click, I think, for a lot of people. No judgment, didn't for me for a long time. But once it does, it feels like such a game changer that it's like, holy shit. Yeah. Like, holy shit. It's not like just read the book. It's like, no, work this whole Skittles framework that we'll show you. We're both we're gonna talk about it. We're gonna pull some stuff from the book. Um, and then we're actually gonna do a little bit of a show and tell example because it is just that powerful of a visualization. Would you agree with me when I say that? Like good person. Yeah. Like I get excited and jacked up about it, but it's like, this isn't just a me thing. It's I can bring everybody in that has, you know, understood the concept, which is again very simple, just visual. And as soon as you do that and start implementing that into your life, it's like yeah, completely.
SPEAKER_01Because energy, I get it, where it the woo-woo, like, oh, you know, like crystals and whatever, but it really is such like energy is in everything and everyone. And you absolutely choose how you spend it, how you use it. And this is such a great representation of how that really plays into real life of you actually have control. You genuinely, it's in your hands. And this is such a great way to show that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I look, I look at people who, you know, you have these folks who have this amazing life, whatever that looks like, right? And then you have folks who are not as happy in their life and they're like, how do you even get there? And you don't even know where to start. It feels like so insurmountable. Um, but when you realize that this life that has all of these big components and the things that people want in their lives, that's just all little choices. That's just one Skittle at a time, right? And so once you realize that, it's like you can architect whatever life you want. You're the one holding the paintbrush. And so it's like, I just want to share that information and that knowledge with people, the top of my lungs. That was the whole thing, you know, when I started this mission a couple of years ago, is like, I literally want to scream this from the rooftops. And I just keep adjusting the way that I bring this message out to hit more people. It's like, okay, great. You don't read, excellent. You want to listen? Excellent. You don't understand it? Great. We're gonna do a, you know, show and tell and demo. Exactly, like live demo of what that looks like. And we'll kind of get into talking through Britney about uh or talking with Britney about some of the things that, okay, what does your day look like? And where do you notice the Skittles? And and I'll share with mine as well. Um, I just I think there's so many great examples that people will really resonate with as we start doing that. So it's a game changer. It is a game changer. It is a game changer. And also, I brought you here for a receipt because a lot of moms will say when I get to that part of my book where it's like, um, I say you have to put yourself first, and I get comments and feedback from How dare you?
SPEAKER_01I'm your child. Exactly.
SPEAKER_00I do get that. But Britney will tell you she would not a baby anymore, I'm a full-grown adult. I know, but not only that, but not only that though, wouldn't you rather have the mom that gives from abundance and who whose cup is full instead of living this giving from obligation and from resentment, which is that mindset shift. And it is really hard. You know, I was working with Casey on that. She still has three young kiddos, and it was like, God, that just doesn't feel right. And I'm like, yeah, but if you're, you know, it's again the airline example and they follow your example. Absolutely. Not only are you passing down that pattern, but if you don't put your mask on first, you're no good to them. You're giving like dry, nasty Skittles that have been in the gutter, cars have run over. I don't want that. Exactly. I like, I want to show you the fresh, juicy, like fresh out of the microwave. It's a pro tip. I know, just for like 10 seconds, just to soften them up. Um so I'm gonna start by just reading the first chapter, and then we're gonna talk about some things as we go through. I just I love the first chapter so much. Um, okay, I believe that energy is our biggest resource. Not money, not time, but energy. I also believe that most of us don't use this resource with intention or to its fullest potential. For years I charged through life like an overcaffeinated squirrel without realizing I was burning through my stash. I had plenty of energy, but I spent it like a toddler armed with glitter, everywhere and on everyone. I never stopped to think about protecting it or using it wisely. So, you know, understanding that energy is Skittles is just a visualization that we came up with. And I won't get into the story, but that goes, that's from the book about like how that all came together and and whatnot. Um, but as soon as I started visualizing energy as Skittles so that I could quantify it, I could feel it when I was getting them, I could feel it as I was spending them, I could get aware of where am I spending them that I didn't even realize I was spending them. Uh, as I was kind of doing that work, I realized or you know, put together that energy is um mental, emotional, and physical. It's all the same energy, it's all the same skittles, but those are the different categories that it can kind of um live in, right? So if you think about having a big emotional day, you feel drained, right? If you feel like, oh, you're, you know, have a big mental thing going on or something that's drama or whatever, you feel drained afterwards. Those are you spending your skittles on those things, whether you realize it or not. I know that you struggled with um kind of being an overthinker or replaying things. Totally. Well, exactly. But at least you can have a little bit of an awareness that that's how you're spending your Skittles. Because it's like those are your Skittles, you get to spend them however you want to, you know. Um, so so I just think that's a big one. Where do you feel like you are as far as in that progression of kind of figuring it out and navigating?
SPEAKER_01I I feel like I've been doing a lot better, I think more than anything. I it is it's a reason for pause at this point because understanding I do have only so much energy, only so much time of the day, only so much life to live. And yeah, like, well, what do I want to spend that on? And just being more conscious that it is a choice. And of course, things will pull you one way or the other and be overwhelming. But once you're able to calm back down, recenter, then it is like, okay, well, let's let's figure out where I've been spending these, where I can be, like what adjustments can I make? Because it is one choice at a time.
SPEAKER_00It makes a difference. And it's hard because I think we get, you know, we all are in our own patterns of however we spend stuff. And that isn't just like a, oh, cool, now I have this new Skittles metaphor, so I'm just gonna be amazing right out of the right out of the gate. That's not what I'm suggesting, right? I'm not saying to everybody that this is easy. What I'm saying is it's simple. And I'm saying that what you're already doing is hard. This is just a different hard, but a hard that like gets you down the path where you want to be, instead of just staying on the hamster wheel.
SPEAKER_01And it simplifies it instead of it being this whole like energy is one big giant glom. It's no, it's it's choices individually throughout the day, throughout your life. Like in each moment that you live, there is energy. And yeah, it can be good or bad, but you you have a lot of choice in that and how you spend yourself. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00You do. And and the the self-awareness component, I think of it as a is a really big uh piece of it because we're on autopilot. You know, there's so many of us that live in airplane mode that you're just doing the thing over and over again surviving with without realizing like who handed you those those habits or those patterns or those things that you actually do believe and want to continue doing, because so many of us just get caught up with the herd and just go with that mentality of just this is what I have and this is what I'm doing, and I'm on this hamster wheel. And it's like, wait a second, guys, it doesn't have to be like that. I found a different way. And that's literally what I feel like with this. I feel like I'm handing out cheat codes. I feel like this game is, you know, this life is a game. And that um if you if you are able to visualize it in a way where you can really get some traction, you can you can play it however you want to. And I'm living proof after really doing this for a couple of years that it's like, holy shit. And it is just a muscle. It's just a muscle that, like, just like if you go to the gym and you start working a muscle and you haven't worked out in years, it's going to take a minute to start doing that. This is the same thing. But when you realize it's as easy as changing a spit a Skittles drain into a Skittles deposit, right, and being intentional and aware of what those things are, um, you're really able to start getting traction. So I love it. Um, okay, so I'm gonna look at the next part of it. So as I realized the power of energy, the Skittles image brought it to life. It was fun, it was quantifiable, and it turned energy into a game. I could feel each one slip away or land in my bowl. Suddenly I knew when I was overflowing and when I was scraping the bottom. And more importantly, I could link those states directly to my choices. So when I make good choices with my Skittles, you know, I I will reiterate this later in the show, but um, you know, one of the things that I think is just low-hanging fruit and easy to start with is traffic or weather. You know, both of those things are very easy to become aware of because so many people don't realize that when they're getting worked up in traffic and when they're raging or when they're yelling at people or getting frustrated or getting annoyed, that's Skittles. Those that's your energy that you're spending. That same energy could be spent a different way if you didn't spend it on that. And so it's like, do you really want to spend your most valuable resource on something that happens every single day? Yeah. There's there's this this planet is filled with ding dongs, just so everyone knows we're all ding dongs. I don't come from a place where I'm not one of the ding dongs. I say ding dongs in in the way that we're all ding dongs. The iwee ding dongs. All of that, right? We're all the ding-dongs. And um, and also it happens every single day. So, so do you want to be that person that puts so many Skittles into what that is? That's the whole, you know, talking with my reformed big truck, big truck guy. He'll tell you, he'll he's gonna actually come on the come on the show in a couple weeks and share with you what a game changer this has been for him, just understanding the the Skittles metaphor and how to work with it. Because he goes home at the end of the day now and you know, hangs out with his kiddos and has the energy to plug into them because he realizes what he was throwing out the window at some lady that cut him off that has no idea. Like she's so out to lunch, so uh we all are, right? Right, and it's like, or also maybe she was doing something where she's rushing to get you know somewhere, she found out bad. Who knows? Who cares? But it's like the fact that you spend your most valuable resource because you can't handle the emotions associated with what came up while you were in traffic, we gotta grow up a little bit. You know what I mean? Do you feel like you're getting better in with the traffic thing, or do you feel like that never was a thing?
SPEAKER_01I mean, I think when I first started driving, because I like to go fast.
SPEAKER_00And so for me, it just was like before we started recording Brittany was sharing that you know, she just found out her license was suspended again. So that is good. Again, she's she was a fun one to raise. I love it. Um, okay, so traffic wasn't a big one for you.
SPEAKER_01No, because I, you know, and it is a realization that you don't know what somebody's doing behind the wheel. So it could be picking their nose, they could be reaching for something, yelling at a kid behind them, driving to take their someone to the hospital, somebody passed away, like they're crying. Or maybe they are just fuck you. And you know, like maybe they are mad at you, but it's just errors, they don't know you, and you don't know them. It's anything can happen behind the wheel. And so I I just stopped caring a long time ago because it is like that's a crapshoot. Even for me, I don't know what I'm doing.
SPEAKER_00I put this social post out a month or so ago and it was about merging traffic. And I was apparently this is a big thing. I I found my I found my angry uh men. And so I'm like, okay, great, now I know where they live. Now I know where to find them because I just want to help you know, help you understand it doesn't have to be like that. Who cares if somebody cut you off? Who cares if somebody got up and whatever? The fact that you're, you know, losing your mind, that's let's a choice. Let's dive into that, you know. Um, overthinking, that's a big one. So starting in with the mental, emotional, physical, we'll start with mental. Overthinking is a huge source of eating on your Skittles, right? Munching them up. So um uh I had a note here when I was making notes about the book is your brain has a budget, spend it wisely. Every thought you entertain is stealing time and energy from something else. So, and that was a big one for me. You know, I used to let this just my my brain was this hamster wheel and it was thinking about how someone did something, how did I like that? How did that, you know, what is someone doing that? What did they think? What was their intention? What was their thought behind something? Why did they call? Why didn't they call? Why did they, and it's like, oh my God, this is exhausting. And then come to find out, I'm not unique in that pattern. A lot of people have that, right? That's in the book what we name Darla, that negative Dharla brain that just is. That's not you. So many people think that's them, and so they think that they're going crazy. That's just a tool that's gone rogue, right? And so realizing that and being able to get that in check, I think is a really powerful thing. And there's a lot of visuals in the book as well that just kind of help you with that of being able to see that isn't doing you any good. So if you're playing this game of life, you're gonna want to have the best advantages, the best tools, the best all of the things you most of us are going with car with flat tire and the you know, wheels on fire and all sorts of other shit.
SPEAKER_01Technically, I'm driving, but it could be a lot better if you're putting some better than.
SPEAKER_00Right, let's get some tread on those tires. You know what I mean? And again, very visual. So I always think about like these people that have things that are going and they're like, I don't know what to do, I don't know what to do. And I'm looking again, because now that I can see things, yeah, I can really see things, good news, bad news. And I try to stay in my own lane unless somebody asks me. But you know, someone will come to me and say, Here's what I have going on. I'm like, okay, change this, change this, change that. And they'll come back in a couple weeks or a month and be like, holy shit, what a difference! It doesn't take a long time. It doesn't take a lot, it doesn't take a lot, but it's like we've lost the ability to be able to kind of have that savage self-awareness of being able to realize where am I spending my energy? And if you realize that that was your biggest uh resource, not not time, not money, not whatever, it literally is your energy energy, and your energy is yours, you know, and so it's like you get to spend it however you want to. Um, I have in here every mental loop has a Skittles price tag. It's basically the world's shittiest streaming service. Uh, your brain keeps autoplaying reruns you didn't subscribe to with no skip button. And every time you watch the same episode again, more Skittles disappear from your stash. What a total waste of candy, you know. Um, you know, I have a note in here that the next time you catch your brain hitting replay, uh say to yourself, I'm not paying Skittles for this rerun, and then change the channel. Again, I get it that it's not easy because when your mind is doing that, but then you have to pattern interrupt to get up and go for a walk, get up and do something, light a candle, go whatever it is, it doesn't matter. Change what you're doing. If you just lay there and go, I can't get my brain to stop, well, no shit, right? Like you have to go the insanity.
SPEAKER_01But it's insanity and expecting a different thing. Thank you.
SPEAKER_00It is the it is the insanity, right? And so understanding you're the one who benefits when you make the change to do something. So try something different. Whatever it is, if what you've been doing doesn't work, try something different. We have this amazing thing called the World Wide Web. And you can go on there and you can type in the search bar, give me ways to, and then fill in whatever it is that you're working on, right? That's a free resource, free-ish. I mean, everybody has a phone, I guess. I don't know. Um, but it is, you know, everyone always does this whole like excuse of, well, I don't have the money for this, I don't have the money for that. Everybody has access to the internet. Everybody has access to the internet. Everyone can go outside and hang out with a tree, right? You know? Oh God, we'll get to that part. That's that's that's like that's that's a skills multiplier. That's a that's a big one. Right. I I do like to spend some time this weekend doing that because I agree with you. Um, so yeah, the goal isn't to stop your thoughts completely, that doesn't work. Uh it's to stop funding them. It's to stop saying, I'm not spending my Skittles on feeding this. You know, when you're going through something and you're overthinking it, you're overplaying it. I don't know if you've ever done that where um, actually I know you've done that, but I'm just saying, like to the listener, maybe there's someone out there who's like, my brain is amazing. It never, you know, it's a vault. It's a vault, it never betrays me. Um, but if you do that where you're overthinking something, right? You have something that's coming up, uh, something that's looming, or something that you're nervous about or whatever, and you're overthinking, you're overthinking. I'm not talking about energy that you're spending preparing for that. I'm talking about where you're just running scenarios, right? It's like, oh, but what if this happened? What if that that happened? What if this happened? When I was working with with Cameron about this, it was like, you know, we would talk about that, and I would say, you're you're you've gone down this whole branch of like this could happen, this could happen, and this could happen. I'm like, but what if all the way down at the root it takes a left turn and you've just wasted all of these Skittles and all of this energy running scenarios for something that will never happen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It will never happen. Yeah, because it's not fun scenarios.
SPEAKER_01No, it's like, oh, what if it's like, oh, what if exactly exactly, right?
SPEAKER_00And so then you're living that, you're bringing that into your awareness where it's like, then you're focusing on the negative and the and the gross, and it's you're basically sending out an order to the universe to just bring more garbage to your front door. You know, we talk about all of the stuff people hear about, the quantum and the manifesting and all of the things. And it's like, I don't get into a lot of that as far as the different ways that people do that. But what I will tell you is that your brain is very powerful. And the things that you think and the emotions that you feel create your reality. And so if you're living in the worry and the fear and all of the things, you've literally just put a golden invitation out to the universe, you know. So I'll I get into later in the book about how important gratitude is and really coming from that place of positive energy instead of negative and not this toxic positivity, but definitely if you're telling yourself you're not good enough and running all these different scenarios and whatever, you're getting exactly what you're asking for, which you know, um is a thing. Opportunity cost of thought, I think is a really important thing, you know, when you realize that if you're spending your time on those things, you aren't able to spend that time thinking about creative things, things, ways to better your life. Um, whatever it is that you want to be able to be able to think about, you don't have time to do that because you're worrying about potential scenarios that aren't even real, that won't even play out. Yeah, you know, seriously. So that's a whole thing. Um, okay, let's see. Uh the hamster wheel isn't free, it bleeds you dry. If you choose to mind fuck yourself over what you can't control, fine, but don't whine when you've got nothing left. And we'll show our little show and tell in a little bit about how that all works out. Um, okay, emotional, and so now we're gonna talk about the emotional piece of it. So um emotional intelligence is energy management. You know, when you we were talking before we started recording about um responding instead of reacting, right? And understanding that pause. I think a lot of people don't realize that we cause our own suffering a lot. Like the majority of your suffering is you driven. Would you agree with that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because uh, you know, of course you can't control everything that happens in life, but you can control your response to that or your reaction. Yeah. Because yeah, like in traffic, somebody cuts you off, you can either and ruin your whole fucking mood, or just say, Oh wow, what a what a dummy. Exactly. You know, make a joke out of it or something. Yeah, just not even pay attention of like, okay, glad I'm safe, didn't get into an accident, like go about my day, continue my podcast, like do whatever else, because it is, it's a choice 100%.
SPEAKER_00And at first I I had to have fun with it. Now I just I now I don't even pay attention to it at all. Somebody cuts me off. I it doesn't even register for me anymore. But when I was first doing it, I had to kind of make it a little bit of a game because I used to be one of those people that threw Skittles out the window like a like a pride flag. I mean, it was just flying behind me, Skittles, yelling at people, flipping people off. Like it was not great. And also doing that with my kids in the car, which is also I'm up for mom of the year award this year again. Uh so in case anyone's voting. But but understanding that again, you're just passing that down to them. You know, your your nervous system completely shot because of you know things that you don't have any control over that you've decided that you want to engage with rather than spending them a different way. So at first, I had a I had to have a little bit of a game with it where it was like if somebody cut me off, I would say, get on in here, bud. I've been holding this spot for you all morning, you know? And just whatever that was to just kind of turn it into a funny instead of anger. Diffuse it. Diffuse it. Exactly. That's the right word I'm looking for. Thank you. It's just diffuse that of I'm not just gonna sit here and seethe, I'm gonna turn it into something that's funny because my logical brain knows I don't want to spend my Skittles this way. I would really Rather do, and I can fill in the blank with a thousand other things I would rather spend those Skittles on. You know, the biggest part of the awareness is understanding that it's either or you can spend those Skittles on traffic or you can throw the ball with your kid after work. You'll have the energy left over to be able to do that. If you don't realize that, then you get home at the end of your day and your kid wants to go do something and you're drained and exhausted because you've wasted your Skittles on, you know, yelling at somebody at somebody, you know, drama at work, shit that you could have avoided, drama that, you know, problems that you caused because you reacted instead of responding. So when you realize that all of those little choices add up to something. And when you're not spending them on garbage and causing your own suffering, you can be spending them on creating and advancing your life in ways that will just blow your mind. Like my life today is it's it's unbelievable from where it was before, just by working these things and making choices that are like that those are mine. That's my energy, that's mine to spend. How do I want to intentionally spend my energy? Um, so it's it that to me was really big. Um so yeah, the reacting versus responding, that's the sneakiest Skittle thief, I think I think. I think people don't realize that there's that's a take a pause. Take a pause when something makes you feel a certain type of way, right? When you get cut off, you feel a certain type of way. It makes you angry. Take a pause. What did that hurt? Right? Nothing. So I can grow up. Um, okay. Reacting almost always costs you more than you think. Responding always saves or adds skittles you didn't realize you could keep. Reacting often costs you triple because you pay in the moment and later when you replay it in your head or clean up the mess it caused. Responding, however, is like coupon clipping. You acknowledge the feeling, validate it, and spend only what's necessary, often getting some Skittles back in the process. Um, yeah, I say in the book, my favorite example of someone wasting Skittles is the uh big truck guy in traffic, right? I don't know why. That always just makes me really happy. I've reformed camera. It is, it is. I've reformed camera, and I've read that I have a list of people now that are like, okay, I get it, I get it. And then as soon as you start getting traction there, it makes you want to do more because it's like, okay, you have these extra skittles that you can spend on other things. Um, let's see. EQ, that's that's emotional intelligence, so everyone knows. So it's IQ or EQ. Um, EQ, and I'll maintain that I think EQ is more important than IQ, right? Like, you don't even have to be crazy, savage, smart anymore. We have so many resources, know how to use your resources and have an elevated EQ. You're head and shoulders over people. It's just ridiculous. So EQ isn't some mystical PhD thing or an algebra formula, it's simply your ability to notice, understand, and manage your own emotions and other people's without losing your damn Skittles. Um, so that's that's pretty awesome. I love that. Um let's be real. Life doesn't come with a manual, but it does come with chaos. I wrote this book because I got tired of drowning and everyone else's noise and needed a way to fix my own shit. This isn't some sugar-coated self-help nonsense. It's trash, it's honest, and it's packed with tools that actually work in the middle of real life. If you're ready to stop playing small, take back your energy, and get unapologetically you again, this book is your playbook. You can pick up your copy of the Life Pack Playbook on Amazon or on our podcast website, let's get nakedpodcast.com. Let's see. The next one is the physical. So moving your body, I think, is so important. And I think so many people don't understand the value of that. You know, it's like you see these people who are really into their fitness, and I think people that aren't into their fitness look at that and think that they're somehow different, or uh they don't have that drive, or they're not, whatever. News flash to everyone, most people don't want to do that, but you have to in order to like keep your mind in check, keep the energy moving, like understanding that when you put energy into being, you know, active physically, those are multipliers. Those are things that give back to you, moving your body and move it in ways when you start. If you're not somebody that wants to go to the gym, fine. You know, get up in the morning and and have a dance party uh as you're getting ready for work. Yeah, it doesn't have to be at the gym. Exactly. You can dance, you can yeah, go for a walk. I mean, move your body, yeah. Move your body in different ways. And I think that that's really savagely important because people think it's a punishment, right? They see like discipline and discipline, that word is like discipline when you're a kid, but when you realize it's really just self-love, like reframe discipline to self-love. I go to the gym um regularly because I love myself and I want the results more than I want the comfort of what that hour off or whatever is, right? So being able to reframe that and understand that that's an investment in yourself. Um, there's lots of different ways to move your body, like Britney said, it doesn't have to be, you know, what you think it is, but move your body. We are energy beings. Like that is that's a real thing. Absolutely. Yeah. So dance parties in the kitchen. I'm always a dance party fan. Yeah. Um, yeah, so list of everyday Skittles multipliers, walking outside, playing catch with your kid, playing with your pet, stretching in the morning, throwing weights around, uh, cleaning with music on. My favorite one is, you know, when people are like, oh, I gotta do chores, it's like, I don't have to do anything. I get to do them. And also then do something fun. For me, I put on like the the, you know, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre from the 90s, um, put that music on Saturday morning and just do my thing. And I'm singing and dancing and having a good time because it's like life is life. I'm not gonna sit and complain about it all the time. I'm the one holding the paintbrush. I'm gonna paint it the way that it uh serves me best. So yeah, pick up sports with friends, yoga breath work, um, martial arts, laugh out loud, play, right? Things that I think people don't realize. We were meant to always play. So many people are like adults and they don't do anything. I'm like, where is play on your calendar? Yeah, people look at me. What are you enjoying yourself? Yeah, what are you enjoying yourself? And people look at me like I'm crazy when I ask that. I'm like, I get that we have to adult, but who said we have to like then you clock out, grow up, still, and then it's still like you get to do what you want, you realize that, right? I think a big part of that, the problem with that is so many people have this um, you know, we've really doubled down on this keeping up with the Joneses. And so people think that success looks like the big house, the fancy car, the uh, you know, whatever. And so everyone overextends themselves to get that, and then they feel like they're wearing a noose around their neck. Um, they are. That's exactly what that is. Uh so stop doing that, right? Like, wouldn't your kids rather have a present parent than someone who has to work 60 hours a week to be able to have this big fancy house that no one is in? Like, it just doesn't make sense to me. And I and I get it, I was on that train for a long time too, because I got to that place where I had the big fancy house in Paradise Valley and I had the nice Mercedes and I had all the things, and I've never been more miserable in my life, you know, because I was just killing myself to try to make that happen. And what um my kiddos will all tell you is that they would have rather had a mom that was present, that was plugged in, right? Here's where the receipts are. I know, you know, you would have rather had that than me think feeling like I have to make all of this money to be able to say yes. I don't want your money. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_01Come hang out with me. Absolutely. Yeah, you can't do that when you're when you did is you work yourself up to a certain point of you have to keep working to maintain. And yeah, it is. It's a self-fulfilling, oh, you want to work so hard? Well, good because you have to.
SPEAKER_00Because now you have this mortgage and these payments and all of this stuff. And it's like you you get to this place where you feel like they said this is where happiness lived, and this is where I am now, and this is not where happiness is. And so when you really realize happiness is a choice and it has nothing to do with the stuff that you have, you know, I will maintain that because I've lived life from all perspectives on the financial side. You've done it all, really. I've started with nothing, and and I'm a very successful woman now, and so I I have run the whole gamut, and I will tell you, um, I'll I'll pay enough to get by, but right.
SPEAKER_01Once you're okay, look at your own.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, get your priorities right. Yeah. And so people are like, I'll be happy when. And they say, you know, when I hear pap people and it's like, I'll be happy when I make six figures. I'm like, it doesn't work like that, boss. Like, get happy right now and want less shit because that wanting, you're just trying to fill a hole, anyways. And so when you realize that, it's like, no, you can just choose happy right now. Yeah, make your life simple, you know. Absolutely. Yeah, simplicity is such a beautiful thing, you know. Um, reframe I have to to I get to. I think that's a really important one. That I hit that later in the book. Um, so we won't really get into that, but I just had a note about that because I think that that changes the game for things. So many people are like, I have to do whatever. And it's like, no, I get to do that. Come from a place of gratitude instead of like, oh, my life is so terrible. Is it?
SPEAKER_01If you put your it's your life, you're the one who's living it, you're the one choosing those things.
SPEAKER_00If we if we got to a place where we said, okay, there's a room full of people, and I put a hat in the middle, and everybody writes your problems down, all of your problems, and puts them in the hat. You want to pick somebody else's problems? I don't. I don't. I don't. I've seen I've seen a lot of people that have it a lot worse than than other people. You want to risk that? That's on you, right? Or you could just say, okay, great, then I'm going to to work with what I have, you know.
SPEAKER_01And things could always get worse. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And things could always get better too, though.
SPEAKER_01Sure, of course. You know, you choose. You're the one you're the one steering. Anything now.
SPEAKER_00Take the wheel of your life. Absolutely. Take the wheel of your life. That's a big thing. So uh, okay, yeah. So on the physical, also important to note, not all physical activity is a multiplier. Dragging yourself to do something you hate, like a workout that feels like punishment, usually just drains you. And you would agree with that. So again, like figure out what it is that you enjoy. Playing pickleball is is just as beneficial for you as going and doing a, you know, yes, I get it, we're supposed to lift weights and do all the things, but do anything. Move your body, think about what you feel like after you do something. You can do 15 minutes. I mean, anything is something. Yeah, the the trick is finding movement that feels good to you. That's where the deposits live. Uh, physical movement is one of the fastest ways to deposit Skittles back into your bowl. Think of exercise as a candy multiplier, and it totally is. Uh, okay, let's see. Currency and cost. So imagining your Skittles as a currency, I think that that's really important. And being able to visualize them as you're spending them or getting them back, right? Again, that's the game. When you turn life into a game and you realize that visualize, if the Skittles aren't your jam, put something else in there, but visualize something that is your energy so that you're getting and giving that currency and figuring out how you're wanting to spend it. Because so many people spend their energy on shit that doesn't matter. Just garbage, literally garbage. Um, okay, let's see. You already know the people and activities that refill your bowl, do more of those. Okay, so this is talking about um understanding like what actually fills your Skittles bowl and what actually drains it. So you already know the people and activities that refill your bowl, do more of those. And you definitely know the ones that leave you feeling mugged and empty. Do less of those. Start watching yourself spend Skittles. Literally picture it. It's hilarious and sobering when you realize how many you've thrown away without even noticing. And that goes back to the whole like airplane mode, uh, you're just a zombie in your own life kind of thing.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely.
SPEAKER_00Um let's see. Once I started treating everyday annoyances as a Skittles experiment, everything shifted. Slow Wi-Fi, the guy arguing in the checkout line, the spilled coffee, the lost keys, all of them gave me the same choice. Do I toss Skittles at the irritation or do I save them for something that actually matters? And that get that was huge for me on just getting to this whole like, I don't have control over stuff. I'm not gonna fucking complain and throw a toddler temper tantrum because my coffee was wrong. You know what I mean? I look at what a bunch of douchebags we all are in this country. You know, it's like, do you guys realize what happens in other parts of the world? Like they don't have clean water and you're gonna fucking complain because somebody at Starbucks got your fucking drink wrong. Maybe less mods, my friend. Maybe less mods. Uh, let's see, what would it look like if your family, your passions, and you got your Skittles instead of the lady at the Starbucks cutting in line? Uh, the more curious you get about your Skittle spending, the more powerful you become. You start breaking patterns that never served you in the first place, and you realize you're not here to live the same mediocre day on repeat. You're here to enjoy the ride. And once you see the Skittles price tag, you'll never unsee it. Um yeah, so then inventory, kind of the trick of developing a savage self-awareness of where your Skittles are going. I'm gonna kind of breeze through some of this so we can make certain to get to our show and tell. Um, so yeah, inventory is a big part of it, the mindset. Um, you know, Britney is my receipt of saying that she definitely would prefer this version of me. Right?
SPEAKER_01I think so.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00We want the old one back now. She's getting spicy.
SPEAKER_01I miss my youth, but you know, it's cool to have you be able to hang out.
SPEAKER_00I know, but Brittany's gonna be 30 this year, this next month, which is crazy. In one month from today. I know, it's wild. Um, let's see. Okay, so yeah, management and protection, right? Once you realize that those Skittles are yours, making certain that you're protecting those because your energy isn't infinite. You will run out. That's why we, you know, when people are like just drained and walking around like out of gas, that's the out of gas that I refer to is you've wasted all your Skittles on things, didn't even realize they were yours to hand out. Um, and and then the management part of it, you wouldn't leave your wallet on the on the counter at a gas station. Why do you let people just come take your Skittles? You know, when you have people that you spend time with that you literally feel like you got emotionally mugged, you know, because you don't have any boundaries or or any of that. Like you got to get self-aware about that, right? So, so number one, budget your Skittles. If everything is important, nothing is important. That's a really big thing when people say that's a priority. Okay, show me where, right? Show show me if you say your marriage is important, show me where you're investing in that. Because if you have, if you look at your week and you say, Well, I've spent six hours scrolling on Instagram and only one hour of investing time into my marriage. Nope.
SPEAKER_02That's a choice.
SPEAKER_00Look yourself in the mirror, look yourself in the mirror because so many people are like, I don't know what happened. I'm telling you, take a look. The boogeyman under the bed is not that scary. Take a look. Uh, set boundaries, lock your candy jar, um, making a list, identifying the Skittles thieves, and all this is in the book. Highly recommend. Highly recommend. Um, not because it's my book. Highly recommend. There's some good shit in here.
SPEAKER_01It's a great way to visualize things and to think about it because it is like you only have so much energy in every day, in every choice. Like, and it is, you choose how you spend it.
SPEAKER_00Well, and it's this book is 10 chapters of things where it's like I run it through this my eight-year-old brain, right? My eight-year-old brain of the make it make sense that doesn't have all the muck on on top of it. You know, when I reference my eight-year-old brain, I'm referring to John and Adeline, my nephew and my niece, when we're talking about, you know, the euthanasia thing, and they're explaining like, why don't you just put people down when they're sick? And it's like, why don't we just put people down? We do it with dogs, wouldn't that be great? That's the eight-year-old brain that I'm referring to. So um, and then also do random audits. So uh list of top 10 Skittles thieves. I mean, those are all excellent. List of just Skittles deposits, um, pro tip for stacking deposits. So there's lots of good, there's lots of good stuff in here. Um, there's no excuses. You can read the book, you can listen to the book on Audible, you can have it on Kindle. Freaking call me, I'll read it to you. Give you the bullet points. Um, and then the either or I just wanted to hit that one home before we get into it. So understanding that your Skittles are finite. So when you're spending them, would I rather spend them here or would I rather spend them on something else? So, okay, let's get into our show and tell a little bit. So, so here's the Skittles representation, and this is how I this is how I have it set up. So these three bowls up here are your um are your priorities. Maybe it's your family, your goals, whatever it is, right? Maybe you have more than three. This is just a representation of that. I have a Skittles bowl that has these are today's Skittles, these are tomorrow's Skittles. The Skittles that are represented here are Skittles that are just free. They're yours if you take them, if you know how to get them, right? And I'll tell you different ways as we're going into that how that looks. And then what this represents over here is Skittles that you just throw out. These are where we're saying, okay, temper tantrums on the highway, that's where those Skittles go because that's a cost. So then you can say, okay, let's run through us through a day and we're gonna see out of this bowl where we spend them, right, and where they end up. Because again, it's the intentionality of it. So we wake up in the morning, right? I'm just gonna do a sample person's day. You you help me as we go through that, right? So alarm goes off. First thing we do, reach for our phone. A lot of people open up apps that are probably not great for you before you even start. They want to play the social media uh slot machine game, which means oh I know. That one's okay, leave that one on the ground. Um we turn the news on. Okay, we turn the news on because we want to know what's going on out there. We want to see what we can be outraged about today. Love to know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Where can I be angry about?
SPEAKER_00What can I be angry about? Yeah, get Karen real worked up first thing in the morning. That just happens again. That's news. Whether you even realize that you're like bringing that in or not, that's your mind. That's your mind. Stop putting shit and garbage on top of it. We're not meant to know every single horrible thing that's happening in the world, right? Highly recommend not paying attention to the news.
SPEAKER_01Let's say, you know, you brush your teeth. You think, you know, I love myself this morning. I my breath is a little stinky. Maybe I can invest some time. Maybe do a little, yeah, a little moisturizing, a little, you know. I love this.
SPEAKER_00Look how great that is. Paying attention to yourself, doing some things. I'm going to say, what about this? What about I'm going to dance and have a great time and multiply my energy, right? So I'm going to say, yes, that takes a little bit from here, but when you multiply your energy, we also take some from this pot, right? That's how I'm going to say that. Because when I dance, I'm like, okay, yeah, it's going to take a little physical energy. I always feel like I get way more back, right? Absolutely. Um, maybe I go make a breakfast for my kiddos, and I'm, you know, not a lunatic that morning because whatever. And so I'm investing in them and spending time. Maybe we talked while we're doing that instead of everybody on our phones. Wow. Isn't it nice? That's great. Yeah. Okay. Now I get in the car and I go to work. Traffic. Oh, God, got cut off.
SPEAKER_01Cut off with crazy ladies taking her nose and texting and doing her makeup, not paying attention. Now I'm screaming at her. I'm yelling. I'm steaming mad.
SPEAKER_00It's get to work, understand some drama for some other people.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Yeah. First thing coming in. All this stuff is happening.
SPEAKER_00Can you believe that Sheila didn't get the report done in time? What a bitch. Can you believe she's she's wearing the wrong? Oh my god, she's terrible. Oh, but we go to lunch and maybe we go do something that's fun that we actually enjoy doing.
SPEAKER_01Sit with your coworker, have a nice conversation.
SPEAKER_00Maybe you laugh a little bit. Right? Maybe talk about some of our goals.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01Maybe get closer to somebody who, you know, yeah, have a human connection. Absolutely. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Human connection. That's really nice.
SPEAKER_01Nice with the waiter. You know, they get a compliment on your outfit. That's you know.
SPEAKER_00Compliment someone else. Exactly. That's actually a Skittles multiplier and take some of that. When you're kind, do you know that feeling in your chest that feels nice? Yeah. That comes from this pot. So you can just have those. Isn't that great? Now we're driving home, maybe, or maybe we're doing obligations. We got to go stop and do this and do that. Or now we're annoyed, and we've we're not just doing it from a nice place, we're doing it from a resentful, gotta do all the things. The kids need some stuff. Right, exactly. It's just, and then we just what else? We can just do all of the things.
SPEAKER_01Oh, just so you can see.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, all this waste.
SPEAKER_00Right, all these waste of Skittles, right? What else are we doing? More social media, I guarantee it. Oh gosh. Coming home. We're coming home and we're now we're sitting in front of the couch because you're so exhausted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you don't want to use your brains. More outrage.
SPEAKER_00More outrage, right? We just got home from work. We still have four, five, six hours of the day left. Yeah. This is great. So now we're gonna have to get into this, which is tomorrow's stash, because we're not well rested, right? Because we're laying in bed, scrolling, right? I think the majority of people do stuff that it's like they say, here's not a good habit to have, and we do it anyways. Well, that's on you, so we're gonna rob a couple of those. Kids come and say, Hey, can I can we go play ball or whatever? No can do. Completely out of skittles. Because you can't use these for the next day. This is like I'm just trying to triage my day to get to the end of it. What we're missing is this whole thing is available. And also, what a waste. We have more here than we do here combined, right? And I'll gear, I'll maintain that this is a healthy amount that most people do not get, right? So let's get realistic about it. Most people feel like they're about to be a little bit more. We were saying like on a best case scenario today, right?
SPEAKER_01So And yeah, to put on your music, I mean Is it a Friday?
SPEAKER_00Forget about it, right? So so let's run a scenario of something with intention where we understand what we have and we're gonna run it back. Also, if you come to my house, don't eat the Skittles, because it might be, it might be these that my hands have been in. I'm just kidding. Okay, so now we have the day. And for me, if if you if you're coming from a place of intention, right? I wake up in the morning, don't touch my phone right away. I go meditate. Oof, isn't that great?
SPEAKER_02Meditate.
SPEAKER_00I know, I do. Sometimes I do it for 10 minutes, sometimes I do it for 20 minutes. I like to journal because I like to do that. That's a very important thing in the morning for me. I like to get outside, go for a walk. This morning I was out on the rooftop enjoying the clouds and the and the monsoon clouds that are coming. I feel like that you can pull the extra from that.
SPEAKER_01That's a multiplier to be in nature. Nice. Thanks. To get to sit and have a mindful moment of hearing the birds chirping, appreciate that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, absolutely. Driving to work, people are cutting me off. Great, no problems. I'm gonna keep my Skittles. It's a non-issue, right? Maybe I can use my thoughts for other things. Wouldn't that be so lovely, right? Somebody needs something from me. I look at plenty of Skittles, no problems. I'm gonna give those to other people, right? I'm gonna invest those in other things or give them back into this bowl, right? Kids need something. Okay, sure, no problems. Got that, right? I like to do things that I get to pull energy from, right? So when you go plug in with other people, go to a comedy show, for example. Wiley, I took Wiley to do a comedy show the other day. He's like, what did that cost? Because he's not, you know, my son's 19, never had been to a comedy show. 30 bucks to go to Tempe Improv. He goes, Are you kidding me right now? I'm like, no. He goes, and I don't think he used the word ROI. I'm using ROI, right? But what an what an inexpensive way to go have hours of laughter and fun, right? That's a big handful from here right to here. Doesn't even have to go into any of these. I'm taking that straight to here. Um, same thing, like go to a baseball game, spring train when spring spring trainings in town in Arizona. It's like 20 bucks to go to a sit outside in the grass. Like that's a handful of these. This is, I don't even care about baseball. Go get in the sun, get in the grass, enjoy your best life. Yeah, I mean, that's a handful, right? Um, so so again, just this is just the visual of making those intentional decisions. I don't gossip. It's not, I'm not in high school anymore, right? So that kind of thing, I don't. I don't overthink things anymore. Now that I understand, I'm not suggesting that I didn't do that stuff before, but I don't do it anymore because I know now that that's these are mine, these are my resources. How am I going to spend them? I'm not going to put them over here. Maybe some big truck angry guy really does piss me off. And I go, it's worth it. Exactly. And maybe I'm having a bad day, and maybe I'm like, all right. Or maybe I am out posting on the socials and I get sucked into watching a few things.
unknownGod, all right.
SPEAKER_00Well, never, I don't, whatever. I'm I'm gonna spend 20 minutes and go, what am I doing with my life? Um, doesn't matter. This is these are intentional, right? Yeah, you can say anything that you want to about, whatever the scenario, whatever the whatever it is, it doesn't matter. Think about it this way. Think about how do I get more of these guys, right? How do I get more of these into mind? Because now I still have plenty of Skittles. I get home, Wiley says, Hey, do you want to go do whatever? Check in with myself. Yep, I do. Because when you get to the place where you don't have any, that's where the resentful mom comes in. That's where now I'm doing things out of obligation. That's where I'm the martyr. That's where I'm the one that feels like I have to carry everything. And I know that it's going to be people listening that go, but yeah, what about whatever? DM me. I'll give you a solution for something. DM me. What about what topics? Absolutely. Like you have a you have something you need to work through? I'm here to come from a place of solutions. I realize everyone has different scenarios, and I realize that some people have infants at home, some people have aging parents, some people have whatever. Don't come from a place of excuses, come from a place of solutions. And how can I recognize where I'm spending my Skittles and how can I get intentional about where I'm going to be spending them because I want to have a better life. You know, you're the one that benefits directly from this. So I think, you know, just being able to look at this from that visual perspective is really, is really powerful to understand that you're that energy is yours, right? When you have an empty bowl and you don't have anything left, right? And I watch this as the people that I work with go, holy shit. And they have these aha moments of wow, this is a game changer. You'll say that. You know, I'll get I can come have a whole line of people that will say the Skittles thing works. And they all have different scenarios in their lives. And it's not about the Skittles, right? It's about whatever that just visualizing your energy, understanding that's your currency. It's being robbed every day right out from underneath you by the social medias, by the news, by the fear-mongering, by the politics and the circus and the things that aren't even real, right? Like people don't get that. They get so twisted up in politics, and it's like, are we still talking about these same things that we have? No one's looking for solutions. Yeah. So do you want to keep talking about the same things that we've been talking about while we let them divide us? Or do we want to say, I'm not doing that? I'm not gonna allow people to divide us based on whatever the things are that are most divisive right now. I'm not doing that. I'm going to connect, I'm going to unite, I'm going to plug into things that are actually real. I'm going to get outside and be in nature. You know, I'm going to appreciate and come from a place of gratitude for the things that I have. It's that easy, right? It's that easy. It's that not that easy. It's that simple. Yeah. It's that simple. I have to rephrase that because I think people, it's like, yes, it is hard to make those choices, but as you start making those choices, you want to make them more and more and more. So um, if you have questions, this is all do you have anything else you want to add? I'm gonna wrap it up because I feel like we've done everything we needed to do with this episode.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I think more than anything, just remembering like life isn't happening to you, like you are existing and bad stuff happens all the time, but so does good stuff. Absolutely. And you choose how you focus your energy, you choose where you spend your Skittles, where you visualize it as coins, visualize it as whatever you have to, but it is like it's inside of you. And yes, bad things happen, but you can choose to say, okay, well, that sucked. Let's do something else, or let that become your whole narrative. So just know you have a choice. And yes, it's hard, but ask for help. People are so helpful. People want to be helpful. We do. We want to get so badly want to help other people. Yeah, we want to connect. We want to connect. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Well, you're a white woman in America. So I love it. I want to help people all the time. It's just you're dying to help people. Please. I don't call me. Please call Karen. She's do not time to punch a texting, but call, please call. No, but it is, but it's uh it's excellent to understand from that. And and also, like I will say, if you're not sure where to start, get a gratitude practice, whatever that looks like, because you you need to be able to shift from this perspective of, oh, poor me and all of these terrible things that are happening to me, to look at the things that you have to be grateful for. I I heard one thing that we'll end on where someone said, um, if something bad happens to you, find three things that surround that that are good. So say you get a flat tire, come up with three things about that that you can be grateful for. I have a spare, I have the ability to be able to change it, or I had the time, or look, whatever it is that you can surround that with to say, I pulled over on a place where it was safe to be able to do that, or someone pulled over to help me, or whatever that looks like. So don't come from this place of I have a bad tire and it just blows your entire Skittles budget budget for the day, right? Like, what can you be grateful for so that you're not losing your cool over something that's just life? Life happens, it happens to all of us, right? It's hard for all of us. Stop comparing. Um, so yeah. So if you have questions, um, please DM me. Please email the the show. It's ladies at let's get naked podcast.com. And um, yeah, that's all we're gonna say about that.
