In this week’s episode of At the Helm, Dr. Charles Helm sits down with Dr. Jim Johnson, a professor at the University of British Columbia who is one of Canada's leading diabetes researchers.
In his lab at UBC, Dr. Johnson leads a dynamic team not only looking at the cause and comorbidities of type 1 and type 2 diabetes but also studying the pathophysiology underlying obesity, longevity, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and cancer.
Dr Johnson is also a co-founder of the Institute for Personalized Therapeutic Nutrition. In the podcast, Dr. Johnson discusses the ground-breaking role of hyper-insulinemia as an early driver of metabolic dysfunction and chronic disease like type 2 diabetes.
He shares insights on the importance of personalized nutrition, the use of tools like continuous glucose monitors, and other practical actions clinicians and patients can take to improve health outcomes.
