Lorrain Taylor

Lorrain Taylor is the founder and Executive Director of 1000 Mothers to Prevent Violence, a community-based, faith-centered nonprofit supporting families grieving the loss of loved ones to violence.

Lorrain is a nationally recognized community advocate, grief counselor, gospel recording artist, and public speaker. She holds a Doctor of Ministry and graduate degrees from the University of San Francisco. Her work has been recognized by Ebony Magazine’s Power 100 and the As.

Her journey began with profound loss. On February 8, 2000, Lorrain’s 22-year-old twin sons, Albade and Obadiah, were tragically killed by gun violence in East Oakland.

In 2004, Lorrain founded 24/7 Gospel, a grassroots organization through which she personally provided groceries, meals, and hands-on care to grieving families.

In 2006, the organization was formally established as a nonprofit and renamed 1000 Mothers to Prevent Violence.
