Casting The Net - Reeling In Holistic Health

Menopause, Muscle, and Mindset

Martha Rice Season 2 Episode 55

In this episode, I had the pleasure of interviewing Karen, a former middle school teacher who pivoted her career into health coaching and fitness training. About seven years ago, her own perimenopause journey began and like so many women, she felt completely unprepared. That experience opened her eyes to the three distinct stages of menopause and the serious lack of support available for women navigating this life phase.

Karen shared the real struggles she faced with weight gain, joint pain, muscle loss, and mental shifts; despite maintaining her diet and fitness. She opened up about how her fitness routines had to evolve, shifting from intense workouts to gentler, more effective options like walking, strength training, and mobility work.

We also dug into her nutrition strategies, the value of tracking symptoms, and the reality of dealing with mood swings, anxiety, and the deep emotional toll menopause can bring. Karen encourages every woman to get educated, advocate for herself, and never settle for being dismissed by medical professionals.

She’s even created a “Navigating Menopause” health journal to empower women to track patterns, advocate with confidence, and feel seen through the process. And exciting news—Karen is hosting a women’s wellness event this June and another major one in January.
