PerfectWhelm with Eric Slivoskey: The Podcast That Helps Enhance Your Life

45. A Brief History of The Camino and Why I Walked 500 Miles On This Ancient Trail: Part 7 of My Let’s Go Around The Globe Travel Series

In this episode, I offer a brief history of the Camino, a 776.2 kilometer storied path that runs through a small part of France and stretches across most of Spain. The Camino is often referred to as “The Way of Saint James”

There is some anecdotal testimony that James (an apostle of Jesus & the brother of the apostle John) spent a brief period of his life traveling through Spain and ministering to people shortly after the time that Christ dwelled on earth.  James is said to have preached the Gospel along "The Way" before returning to Jerusalem where he was ultimately martyred for the cause of Christ.  His body was said to be laid to rest in Santiago de Compostela… the capital of northwest Spain’s Galicia region and the end point for most people who tackle the adventure of completing a Camino pilgrimage.

I also discuss some of the main reasons and motivating factors that influenced me to spend nearly a month walking 40,000-50,000 steps every single day. The idea of a great challenge, and experiencing such a grand adventure stand out, but you will want to tune in to hear me share my other compelling whys for participating in a Camino journey.
