55. Gray Matters: Part 1 Of Beyond The Alpha - Viewing Toxic Masculinity Under The Microscope
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
- In this episode, I’m joined by co-host Isabel Grueneich, a social activist and graduate student in the mental health counseling field. We go beyond the surface and ask the challenging questions about the topic of Toxic Masculinity.
- We attempt to define the term, and also dive deep into how culture, mass media, and established norms impact the way that men interact and show up in their environments, communities, and the larger society.
- Towards the end of this conversation, we begin to explore the biological context of toxic masculinity and how physiological factors may influence and shape male behavior.
- I also share a personal story from my basic training days in the U.S. Army, and how my experiences with combat training were shaped by my male leaders and the different ways that indoctrination, peer pressure, and justification for violent behavior was reinforced during my weapons exercises.
