Hey, I’m Shannon - a Career Coach, wife, and mom of two. I’ve been where you are: stuck in burnout, unsure of what’s next, and juggling all the things.
For years, I pushed through jobs that didn’t fit—trying to “do it all” while slowly losing myself.
Everything changed when I discovered my natural strengths and finally started showing up as my authentic self.
I built a successful career and coaching program around helping other working moms do the same—and now I’m sharing what I’ve learned right here with you.
Each week, you’ll get simple, actionable steps to grow your career with confidence, reclaim your time, and align your work with your life—not the other way around.

Today's episode—it's personal, it's honest, and it's the permission slip every working mom needs right now, because I'm saying what no one else says: You're not asking for too much. You're not too ambitious, too needy, too emotional. You're just living in a culture that told you to settle.
In this episode, we're naming the three core desires I hear most from career moms, and the mindset shifts, leadership style insights, and action steps that can help you actually get what you want without guilt, burnout, or overthinking.
If you've ever thought, "I just wanna know what to do next," "I'm tired of doing it all," or "I want to make more money but not lose myself doing it," then hit play—this one's for you. Let's go.
Intro:
Hey mama, welcome to Career Growth for Working Moms. If you're stuck in a job that doesn't fit, or burning out trying to do it all, you're in the right place. I'm Shannon, a career coach and fellow working mom. Here, you'll get simple career strategies and strength-based leadership tips to help you grow with clarity and confidence. So grab your coffee—or reheat it for the third time—and let's do this.
Shannon Fox:
Hey, hey! Welcome back, mama. I'm so excited about today's episode. It's gonna get real, so I hope you're ready.
Here are the three things I hear women say all the time—sometimes with a whisper, sometimes with tears:
- "I just want someone to tell me what to do next."
- "I want to work less, but still feel successful."
- "I wish I had help with the house, the job, the mental load. I want to stop choosing between work and my kids. I want to feel good about money, not always behind."
Sound familiar? These are not luxuries. These are basic human, career-aligned desires that every working mom deserves to explore. But we've been told they're selfish or unrealistic, and that we should just be grateful for what we have. And sure, gratitude matters—but so does growth. You can love your life and still want more clarity, more time, more income, or more peace.
Let's break this down into three big areas I hear most often.
Desire #1: Clarity. "I just wanna know what to do next."
This one comes up everywhere in my coaching. You're not lost because you're lazy. You're overwhelmed because you've been surviving. You've been responding instead of creating, fixing instead of visioning, working hard instead of pausing to ask, "Does this still fit me?"
Let's make this tangible:
- If you're a Boss Lady in Action, you've probably muscled through decision fatigue by just doing more—but busy isn't the same as aligned.
- Visionary Brainiacs, you've likely been stuck in your head, waiting for some divine download that tells you the exact next right step.
- Heart-Centered Guides, you might be paralyzed by what everyone else needs, so you never ask what you need.
Here's the shift: clarity doesn't come from more thinking; it comes from aligned movement.
Practice this this week:
Block off 20 quiet minutes. Ask yourself, "If nothing was off limits, what would I want to do next in my career?" Don't worry about the how—just write what's true. Then, pick one small step—a conversation, a course, a coffee chat—that moves you toward that clarity.
Desire #2: Time and Support. "I'm so tired of doing it all."
Listen, you're not failing because your laundry is behind or your inbox is overflowing. You're over-functioning in a world that expects moms to be everything to everyone, all the time. The most common thing I hear from moms who are drowning is, "I just wish someone would help me," or "I don't want to be the only one keeping all the plates spinning." And you're not wrong for that—you're human.
Let's talk about how your leadership style might be compounding this:
- Charismatic Queens, you probably make it look effortless. People don't see that you're running on fumes. Ask for help, even if you don't really need it.
- Heart-Centered Guides, you give so much emotionally, you forget to protect your own peace. Set actual limits—it's not cold, it's wise.
- Boss Ladies in Action, you're doing things no one even asked for because it's easier to just do it yourself than explain or delegate.
Here's your work this week: write down every single thing you're currently responsible for—home, work, kids, life. Highlight three things you're willing to delegate, delay, or drop entirely. You're not the sole project manager of the universe. Release it.
Desire #3: Financial Peace. "I want more, but I'm scared to ask for it."
Let's get into money for just a second. So many career moms stay in high-stress jobs, not because they love them, but because they feel like they have no financial choice—and that breaks my heart. I've been there.
Maybe you've said:
- "I stayed in that role for the money."
- "I'd leave, but what if we can't afford it?"
- "I want to make more, but how do I do that without burning out even more?"
Here's what I want you to know: you don't have to earn more by doing more. You can earn more by being more aligned, more strategic, and more aware of your strengths.
Let's walk through it, style by style:
- Visionary Brainiacs, what if your next raise is hidden in an idea you're too afraid to pitch?
- Boss Ladies in Action, what if you've over-delivered for years but never asked to be compensated accordingly?
- Charismatic Queens, maybe it's time to leverage your voice and influence for a speaking gig, side hustle, or new offer that lights you up.
Financial freedom doesn't mean unlimited money. It means having enough to choose what works for your life and family. And the starting point? Awareness, advocacy, alignment.
This week, ask yourself: "What's one conversation I could have, or one thing I could start, that moves me toward more income without more exhaustion?" Because it is possible.
Here's what I need you to know: your desires are not wrong. They're not unreasonable. They're directional. They're pointing you toward the life you're meant to build. When you stop apologizing for wanting more—more time, more income, more joy, more clarity—you actually start getting it. You start aligning your work to your strengths. You stop chasing strategies that were never meant for you. You lead from confidence instead of burnout. And that, mama—that changes everything.
