You built something. You’re proud of it. And somehow you still end up at the end of most days feeling like you’re one missed deadline away from losing it.
The Create Your Day Podcast is where we figure that out together. Hosted by Jenn Cody, operational consultant, nervous system advocate, and your unofficial business therapist, this show is for the woman who’s done white-knuckling her way through growth and ready to lead from a place of actual clarity.
We go there. Strategy, identity, the messy middle, the moment you realize the business you built is running you instead of the other way around. No fluff. No toxic positivity. Just real conversation that meets you where you are and moves you forward.
Jenn’s work lives at the intersection of operational systems and nervous system regulation, because sustainable growth requires both. The inner work and the strategy have always belonged in the same room.
If you’re ready to stop surviving your own success, pull up a chair.
Join Jenn on a journey to letting go. How do we change our mindset so we can easily let go of the past and reach for what’s meant for us in the future?
Thanks for listening!

Welcome to the Fancy Hippie Podcast. My name is Jen Cody and I will be your host. Thanks so much for joining us today. I am focusing today's podcast actually on a guided meditation that we will get into in a few moments. It is one of the more popular meditations that I've done at some of my events, and it seems to speak to a lot of people. And I thought I would share it with anyone who wants to listen today. And I thought putting the guided meditations out on the podcast was a good idea so that anytime you are inclined to need a meditation, if you feel like it would help you at certain points during your day, during your week, you always have access to them. They'll always be up here. So this is the first of hopefully many more guided meditations to come. And what today's meditation is all about is the topic of letting go. And there are a lot of metaphors out there, a lot of quotes that I'm sure you've seen online. And as you do any research into how to best let go yourself, if that's something that you're looking into, you'll see a lot of metaphors for letting go, right? And one of the more popular ones that I've seen is about kids on monkey bars and how they learn at a very young age that in order to move forward, you have to let go of where you were. So it's impossible on a set of monkey bars to move your hand from one to the next without first letting go of the one behind you. And I think that's a really great metaphor actually for letting go, because not only does it incorporate the fact that you have to leave things in the past in order to move forward, but if you think more about what's involved on the monkey bars, you do also realize that your other hand is staying in the present, right? So you're moving from your past to your future. And with one hand, you're still holding on to something to keep you grounded, right? Something to keep you stable. You can't just let go completely because then you'll fall. You have to balance that moving forward with stability so that you can move forward in a healthy way. And I think that there's a lot of people out there that struggle with this. I know that I am definitely one of them. Um if you haven't already listened to the first episode of the Fancy Hippie Podcast, I get into a little bit things that have gone on in my life that have caused me to really have no choice but to move forward. Um and this can be a really, really hard thing to do. And it requires a lot of self-awareness, a lot of reflection on where you've been and where you want to go, because oftentimes it's not until we're presented with the challenge of having no choice but to move somewhere that we have to make that decision of where are we moving to? What is it about our past that we want to bring with us? What are the things that were working for you that you want to bring forward with you in your life? And then what are the things that weren't working for you that you need to leave behind? And sometimes those things we thought were serving us and they weren't. And it's hard to recognize that. It's hard to realize that something or someone or some job, some decisions that you've consistently kept in your life, maybe are not necessarily supposed to be there forever. Um, I have a very good friend who always says, you know, we have people that come into our lives for a reason, for a season. Um and every single thing that comes our way, whether it be a person or an experience, we need to be able to look at it and identify what that purpose was for us at the time. What did that person or experience bring to our life? And even when we come across things that it seems like, how could this have had any positive effect on me? How could something so traumatic, you know, there are things that people go through that are really hard to wrap our brains around, right? Um and how do we look at those things and try and extrapolate some sort of silver lining from them? What can we move forward with from that event that is maybe teaching us something? And sometimes it's just teaching us what we won't allow coming to move forward with us, what we won't allow in our next phase in our life. Um, and other times it's you know what how we want to do things, how we want to experience things, what our mindset is going to be as we come into new things in our life. So that's what I wanted to share with you today. Um I really hope that you can take a few moments to really sink into this guided meditation, listen to it, let it kind of wake parts of your mind up. If it's your first time experiencing a guided meditation, my suggestion would be to make sure that you're somewhere comfortable, make sure that you're somewhere that you won't be interrupted. Um, silence your phone, tell your family that you need a few moments to yourself. I will be putting all different lengths of guided meditations on here, so it's not something that you necessarily need a huge bulk of time to have, but I would make sure that you can be as uninterrupted as possible. Um, if you have a headset, they're definitely preferred way to listen to guided meditations. It really helps you to kind of not only just add some extra buffering to your outside noise distractions, but it helps to really let the meditation sink into your mental space and focus on nothing else but this for just a few moments and let yourself experience it and see what comes up for you. So I hope you enjoy it and I am of course always looking forward to any feedback you have to offer. Okay. To begin the guided meditation, I'd like you to find a quiet place to rest for a while. Once you find it, take a moment to get into a comfortable position. Either sitting in a chair with both feet flat on the floor, or perhaps lying down. Either way, make sure your body is fully supported so you can relax completely. Once you are comfortable, allow your eyes to gently close. If for some reason you would prefer to keep your eyes open, you can lower and soften your gaze to bring your attention inward to your breath. As you settle in, begin by taking a few slower and deeper breaths than you would normally take. Breathing in slowly through your nose and blowing the air out slowly through your mouth. With every inhalation, imagine breathing in calm, relaxing energy. And with each outbreath, imagine blowing out tension, breathing in calm relaxation, and breathing out letting go of stress. Great. Now you can let go of controlling your breath. Just allow yourself to trust in the wisdom of your body that you'll be breathing just right. Feel your breath slowing and your body relaxing even more. Let's take a moment to scan your body from the bottom of your feet all the way to the top of your head. Notice any areas of tension lingering. As you scan, breathe into the areas of tension. Breathe in calm and relaxing energy, and then release the tension through each outbreath. But at the same time, if any tension remains, just let it be. Breathing in and breathing out. Just as you are. If at any time your mind starts to wander, don't judge yourself. Just gently bring your attention back to your breath. Focusing on any areas in your body that you feel the breath the most. Maybe you want to track the breath as it enters and leaves the body during each cycle. Breathing in and breathing out. Calm and relaxed. Great. Now with the power of your imagination, picture yourself standing in the middle of a large garden. It's filled with an assortment of trees, bushes, and flowers, all different colors, all different sizes. Take a moment to look around and notice: are there any structures in the garden? Maybe you have an archway covered in jasmine or ivy. Perhaps there's a bench or a hammock. In one corner, you notice a garden shed. And against this shed, there's a rake and other garden tools. You gaze up to the sky which is clear and blue, and you feel the warmth of the sun on your face. There's a gentle spring breeze, and it soothes your face. You look around again and notice there is a gate at one side of the garden. It leads to a clearing and then to a path. There's a tree line in the far distance. Spend a few moments taking in all of the beautiful colors. Breathe in the scents of the trees and the flowers. And as you do this, begin to realize that this garden symbolizes your life, all of your experiences up until this present moment. As you look at the ground under your feet and all around you, you notice that along with many of the plants and budding flowers, there are also a lot of dried and crumpled-up leaves. They're left behind from autumn and winter, scattered here and there. As you look more closely, you see there are even areas where the leaves are packed down, forming a damp carpet. It's blocking some of the plants from reaching the light of the sun. These leaves represent negative experiences, negative feelings, messages you've received from others and internalized. They also represent negative beliefs about yourself, negative beliefs about others, as well as all the negative energy that you have received throughout. You know that the world is full of both positive and negative energy. Leaves from other people's gardens can be swept up into the wind and blown into our space. You go get the rake and begin raking all of the leaves through the gate, pulling them into a big pile in the clearing outside of the garden, a safe distance away from your beautiful trees and plants and flowers. Once you've cleared out all of the dead leaves and the pile is ready, you decide to burn the pile and get rid of these leaves permanently. You know that other leaves will come. You also know you'll have the opportunity to clear them as well. Periodically, as you maintain your garden, you keep it free of clutter and allow all of the plants to receive water and sunlight. They need this sunlight to bloom to their full potential. Setting fire to the leaves, you watch as the smoke rises higher and higher until it trails off into a thin tail, eventually dissipating into the sky. As the fire burns out, you feel lighter, freer, unburdened. You are able to open your mind and heart to new experiences, positive energy, and good health. You can feel this throughout every cell and fiber of your being. The time is right. Knowing this, you reach into your pockets and find seeds that you have been meaning to plant for quite a long time. It is time to replenish your garden with healing herbs and bright flowers. You know instinctively where to plant these special seeds. You have been tending your garden your entire life. You trust your instinct. Pushing the seeds down into the earth, covering them lightly with soil. You pat them gently and give them just the right amount of water. As time passes, they grow stronger and healthier, second by second. Even though you cannot see them at first, you know that they are under the surface, growing, sprouting, pushing their way up through the earth and into the light. Trusting this process, you can leave nature to do its work. Trusting yourself You are free now to relax on that hammock. Sit on that garden bench. Enjoy the beauty that is the result of your hard work. Resting now. You return to your breath and find that it is flowing smoothly and easily. Your heart and mind have so much room now for new things to grow and flourish. You decide that caring for yourself regularly is worth the effort. It brings you peace and freedom cleared of all the negative energy that you had been absorbing. Make the decision to spend more time in awareness of your body, emotions, and thoughts, so that you know when you need to tend to the garden the most. Keeping it clear of negative clutter and abundant with positive energy is your new goal. And now I hope you're feeling renewed and refreshed. Begin to wiggle your fingers and your toes. Breathe in deeply. Exhale to move more energy throughout your body. Stretch your arms and your legs. When you're ready, you may open your eyes. And I hope you are feeling wide awake and feeling great. I hope that you really enjoyed the guided meditation.
