In this episode, we discuss the recent 2025 Dietary Guidelines in the United States and compare them to the previous Food Pyramid that was introduced by the USDA in 1992.

We discuss the differences between the two and the overall impact of the 1992 Food Pyramid guidelines.  During the 1990's and early 2000's, there was a significant increase in obesity rates and metabolic disease rates that prompted changes that we see in the new guidelines.

With the new guidelines, we see an emphasis on whole foods (less processed foods), lean proteins, healthy fats, and high-fiber, low glycemic carbohydrates such as fruits, vegetables, legumes,  and whole grains.  There are some key distinctions that position the new 2025 Guidelines as a more effective framework for long term health and the prevention of chronic disease.
