3 Rituals That Keep Me Focused When I Want to Quit
Podcast Transcript – Living Fiercely with Tiana De Rey
Welcome back to Living Fiercely. I’m your host, Tiana De Rey, and today we’re diving into a very real moment we all hit: that mental wall.
You’re exhausted. Nothing’s working. You feel like your effort isn’t making an impact. And the thought creeps in: “What if I just gave up?”
Have you ever had that thought? You’re definitely not alone.
Let’s be honest. Motivation doesn’t always save the day. Vision boards won’t always inspire you. And waiting to "feel ready” is a trap. When your energy is gone and your focus is scattered, you need more than mindset quotes. You need rituals—practical tools that pull you back into motion.
Today, I’m sharing three rituals I personally use. These are real. I don’t just talk about them—I rely on them when I want to quit. And if you’re building something big, I know you’ve been there too.
Before we dive in: If this podcast has been helping you, take two seconds right now and hit that follow button so you don’t miss the next episode that could shift everything.
Ritual 1: Clean Physical Reset
When I feel like quitting, I look for control. Not over everything—just something.
First, I shift my physical state. I adjust my posture, shake out my body, stretch, roll my shoulders back, reach overhead, lean side to side. Just 10 to 20 seconds. Nothing fancy. But it snaps me out of the fog.
Even if my mind doesn’t believe it, my body starts to feel like: “We’ve got this.”
Then, I reset my space. I clear the clutter on my desk. Close all the random tabs. Organize my desktop. Make my workspace feel less chaotic and more like something I want to sit down to.
It’s a signal to my brain: we’re not spiraling. We’re stepping back into control.
Ritual 2: Time-Lock the Task
The next thing I do is trick my brain.
If there’s something I’m resisting, I tell myself: "Just do 10 minutes."
Even though I know it might take longer, the point isn’t to finish—it’s to start.
We usually avoid the task not because it’s hard, but because we’re avoiding the pressure, fear, or expectations tied to it.
So I say, "10 minutes. That’s all."
You can do anything for 10 minutes.
What happens is this:
- You realize it’s not that hard once you’re in it.
- The pressure drops.
- And once you’re moving, momentum takes over.
This removes the dread and gets you back into flow. Fast.
Ritual 3: Talk to Your Future Self
This one’s powerful.
When I want to quit, I sit down. I close my eyes. I breathe.
Then I picture the version of me who didn’t quit.
She’s calm. She’s strong. She’s living the results I want.
And I ask: What would she do right now? Would she scroll her phone? Panic? Abandon her goals? No. She’d show up. She’d do the work. Even tired. Even uncertain.
That visualization pulls me out of survival mode. It reminds me of the outcome I’m building toward—and who I need to become to get there.
It gives me something bigger than the discomfort of the moment. It gives me purpose.
How These 3 Rituals Work Together
Each one hits a different layer:
- Physical reset
- Mental focus
- Emotional clarity
And when you stack them? Even 5–10 minutes of these rituals can pull you out of the fog and right back into motion.
You don’t need all three every time. But have at least one you can rely on.
Because we all hit that place where quitting feels easier. But the real shift happens when you learn how to interrupt the spiral before it takes over.
This is how I stay on track. And keep going.
Final Words
You’re not always going to feel focused. You’re not always going to feel ready. But when quitting starts to feel easier than continuing, you need something that works even when you don’t.
If you have your own ritual that helps you reset, I want to hear it. Drop it in the comments or DM me @tianaderey.
And if this episode gave you an "aha" moment, send it to someone who needs it. And follow the podcast so you don’t miss what’s next.
Just because you want to quit, doesn’t mean you will.
You’ve got this.
This is Living Fiercely.
