In this episode of Morning Tea with Coach Kennedy, I sit down with Inner Glow Coach Angie Hawkins to explore how childhood experiences and limiting beliefs can shape the way we seek love, approval, and validation. Angie shares her powerful journey from people-pleasing and feeling unworthy of love to discovering self-worth, confidence, and the freedom to live life on her own terms. Together, we talk about vulnerability, self-love, journaling, breaking old patterns, and what happens when you stop performing for others and start becoming fully yourself. ☕️✨
Good morning, everybody! Today is Friday, August 14th, 2026. And this is your morning tea with Coach Kennedy. Last week, we discussed the no option mindset with Ty Gibson. This week, we're discussing how to connect through vulnerability and self-love with the inner glow coach Angie Hawkins. Stay tuned.
SPEAKER_01Today's guest is Angie Hawkins, who is known as the Inner Glow Coach. She transforms high-achieving spiritual women from chasing love and approval to radiating fierce confidence so they can finally feel happy, free, and loved for who they are. Everyone, let's give Angie a nice warm welcome to the show. Hi Angie, how are you today? Hi Sarah, I'm good. Thank you for having me. I'm glad you could be here. Tell us, how did you find your path to becoming the inner glow coach?
SPEAKER_02Well, like most people, my path was not easy. I usually start in my childhood because that's usually where we all develop limiting beliefs that haunt us through life. So I grew up in a home. The best way to describe it is both of my parents were extremely emotionally unavailable. So as an adult, I can understand what that means, but as a child, I just didn't have the tools or knowledge to understand what was going on around me. So the way I interpreted the situation is I developed a belief that I didn't deserve to be loved. So as you're probably aware, your beliefs dictate your behaviors, and then your behaviors dictate what you experience in life. So needless to say, I struggled for a very long time because even into adult of these people-pleasing and perfectionist behaviors that were based on chasing love and approval and everything outside of myself. So I was not feeling happy and fulfilled, but I really wasn't really sure if that was even available to me or any other way to live. So I continued living my life that way. And the first turning point came in 2017. My dad passed away, and like I had never felt my feelings. I had always tried to repress my feelings and not my feelings, but I was in such profound grief that it was impossible not to feel my feelings. So I just basically felt gross. I didn't know what to do with myself. And the following year, probably in the spirit of New Year's resolutions, I was like, finally, I was like, I want to be happier, I want to do something with my life to be happy. And I was living in Chicago at the time, and I decided to move from Chicago to Hawaii, which was well-intentioned in the sense that I was actually taking agency over my life and doing something to be happy and not just being a victim to it all. But it wasn't well-intentioned because I was actually I'm still looking for things outside of myself to be the thing that made me feel better. So I moved and I was basically living the same life, just in a different environment. And and that was 2019, and for two years I struggled really hard. And then COVID happened. I don't think I have to explain how that exacerbated the situation. But then the straw that broke the camel's back was the end of a relationship during COVID. And I just had this moment where, and I think we all have these moments because usually in life, when it rains, it pours. But I had this moment where it was like, I can't take this anymore. I, you know, when does it end? When am I going to be happy? I was definitely feeling that, but there was also this just overwhelming feeling of hopelessness because nothing had been going well. And if I looked into the future, I truly did not see any hope for the future. So I intentionally overdosed on my anxiety medication, and I spent a day and a half unconscious in my home, another day and a half in the hospital. And when I was released from the hospital, I called a friend and told her everything that happened. And her response was, it's not your time. And that was so profound to me because she was right. It's like I survived something, and I think I have a purpose. I'm not sure what that is, but in that epiphany, I just had this complete mindset shift of I'm a victim of my life, and these things are happening to me, and I'm powerless against them. To this mindset of I've been living my life a certain way, it hasn't been going well, I want to live my life differently, and I'm the one accountable for making that change. So I invested in myself and I hired a coach and I completely turned my life around. And as part of that, because I was a people pleaser and like had my identity wrapped up in everything outside of myself, a huge part of that healing journey was discovering who I really was. And I had been working in corporate America because I was basically just following society's arbitrary rules of like go to college, get the stable job, check off all these boxes. And I realized how miserable my life was because I wasn't living it for me. So that's when I decided to quit corporate America and become an intergloach and help women go through the same transformation that I did.
SPEAKER_01That's beautiful. I I really can resonate with your journey. I haven't intentionally taken overdose on a medication. That is awful. And I'm sorry that you felt like you had to do that at that point. But when we get to those low points in our life, that's exactly what we need to kind of like crack us open and get us to become the best versions of ourselves, is when something horrible like that happens. And so that's uh essentially, I guess, a blessing in disguise that you you went through all of that.
SPEAKER_02No, I completely agree because I have people like they'll ask me, like, what would you change, or if you could go back and tell yourself something, like I wouldn't because I wasn't getting the lessons on my own, so I needed something that dramatic to really wake me up.
SPEAKER_01What do you feel is the most common link to why women abandon themselves for the sake of being loved and how to overcome this?
SPEAKER_02Well, I think everybody has their own like deep-rooted belief because even if you have a belief like I'm not important or whatever, there's if once you peel back the layers of the onions, there's usually like one main limiting belief. So, for example, mine was I truly believed I didn't deserve to be loved. So people usually have like that one thing that they're operating from, but that thing is usually what's affecting our self-worth. So if that limiting belief is actually affecting your self-worth to the point where you feel like you need to find it outside of yourself, like there's usually a limiting belief that's running that show.
SPEAKER_01What besides I'm not lovable, what do you feel is the most common misbelief that women have about themselves that causes the most trouble finding love that is sustainable for them?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's usually a variation of that. I think the most common one that I encounter is I'm not worthy. And like, for instance, because I actually have a client. We she came to me because she wanted to work on her money mindset, and so we were like initially strictly focused on the money aspect, but money is more than just money, right? Because how you do one thing is how you do everything. So, like her belief that she wasn't worthy of money was actually affecting other areas of her life, like love. So that's what I mean when there's there's usually like a deep-rooted belief, and it's usually either because I've also had clients where their um primary limiting belief was that they didn't deserve to be loved, but some people it's I don't feel worthy of things. So, like for instance, mine didn't really affect money because it was focused on love, but others that are like like worth like that can affect many areas of your life.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can see how that could be possible. Yeah, and and I know that once you overcome one limiting belief, that doesn't mean that there's not another one right below the surface. There's some kind of like layers to it.
SPEAKER_02Or even that also doesn't mean that I didn't have some kind of limiting beliefs about money because even though I didn't feel limited in that aspect, when I started doing the inner work on myself, I uncovered some limiting beliefs that I inherited from my parents. For example, one was my mom would always say that having money was sinful, and the thought behind it was basically a lack mindset because in her mind, if you had money, you were taking it away from someone else. So, yeah, there's all these like things that can spawn off of it, but usually there's one core limiting belief. But but yeah, sometimes money has its own like specific, but that but again it's like wrapped up in that lack mindset, which could come from because actually another girl I worked with, her belief was like thing things were not available to her, so that also spawns from this lack mindset belief.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I can see how that that is definitely a lack mindset, and I actually, as you're saying these limiting beliefs, I'm like, hmm, oh.
SPEAKER_02That's why it's usually good to get to like like peel back all the layers and get to the one thing, because that usually heals a lot of things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but you've mentioned a lot of limiting beliefs that I still have yet to heal, and I'm like, maybe I should do some journaling on this.
SPEAKER_02And honestly, like I'm of the mindset I don't think anyone's ever 100% completely healed. Like I always say like I'm a recovering people pleaser a gazillion times better than I used to be, but like I still have the tendencies come up. I don't always act on them, but like I still have like these self-camp conscious patterns like still come up and run. So I don't think there's like an expectation that you should ever be totally healed. But yes, if it is like interfering in your life, then maybe some trim ring out.
SPEAKER_01It's definitely interfering. It's definitely like, oh, well, that one exploded.
SPEAKER_02And again, like I always tell my women, awareness is key because when you are running on these subconscious patterns, that's just it. Like sometimes you're just blindly living your night life and not realizing that you're your own worst enemy. So just being aware is huge because then you can start looking into them and making some changes. For sure.
SPEAKER_01That's why I should probably journal to find the layers of yourself.
SPEAKER_02And actually, because I know not everyone likes journaling, but especially when you're peeling back the layers of your living beliefs, I really like journaling because it's it's not something you're just gonna sit down and 10 minutes and figure out. It's something you're gonna like, as you're going through life, you're gonna start noticing patterns, and actually like writing them down and tracking them helps you get to the deep-rooted issue.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And it was funny because even before we had this interview, I was like, you know, it's been a while since I've journaled, and I'm having some issues in my life right now that it's really frustrating that I should probably talk, quote unquote, talk about in my journal so I could just get it off my chest and and maybe come up with a solution in my own mind. And then I'm like, yes, okay, yep, I'm journaling. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's so funny. I actually love journaling because, like, for me, like, have you ever had the experience where like you're ruminating on something in your head, but then you say it out loud to someone and the answer seems so obvious. I've had many situations like that with just journaling, because like a few days later you go back and read something you wrote and you're like, oh, this is obvious. Like not everyone likes journaling, so I get so excited when people like journaling because I love it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's and I've recommended it to a lot of my clients. Me too. And and then and then when they hear that, they're like, they stretch their nose like ew, because it's yeah, intimidating.
SPEAKER_02I do recommend people try it, but some people just don't like it, and it's like if you don't like it, I'm not gonna make you do it because then you're not gonna stick with it and it's not gonna be effective. Right.
unknownLet's see.
SPEAKER_01When when we stop performing for love and just be ourselves, what do you find happens in most cases?
SPEAKER_02Well, in most cases, the thing that you really want just kind of naturally comes to you because you're putting all this energy in like chasing after love or the job or whatever, but when you're just radiating in your own energy, like people come to you. Like, I have a lot of women, they come to me like fresh out of a breakup or divorce, and they think like, I'm never gonna date again or whatever, or they're like on these dating apps, just like chasing after people. But when they're like truly like basking in the essence of who they are, people come to them, and when you're actually like in your own energy, like you attract a whole different caliber of people as well. Like, and you don't have to chase after people you don't even you're not even interested in. So I think people it's and it seems counterintuitive when you think about it logically, but energetically it always works out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, energetically it does.
SPEAKER_02Because And it's hard to put it into words, but I'm always like, just trust me, and it happens.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. What I was trying to say is energetically it always tries, it always works out because for me, what I've noticed that when I stop performing, then the people that aren't meant to be in my life kind of quote unquote fall off.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01But then, but then the ones that are meant for me stick around or come in. So what makes it hard for a woman to break the cycle?
SPEAKER_02I mean, change is hard, right? Because you've been living life a certain way, and even though it may not feel pleasant, you're at least certain of the outcome. You're like, at least I know what to expect. Whereas when you're actually making changes in your life, there's so much uncertainty. Like, for example, like if you start raising your standards in dating, there's like this initial fear of like, well, then I'm loading the dating pool, and then there's less people available, which is true. But again, then you start attracting a higher caliber person. So it actually works out differently. So it is scary to make changes, and I feel like that's like the biggest resistance I get is just simply making a change because there's so much uncertainty on the other side. That's another thing I work with my women on is feeling safe in your body while feeling that uncertainty.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's important because I even when if I'm not working with anyone, sometimes I'm just working with myself and I'm trying to better myself or you know, correct some type of thing that I don't like about myself so I can become a better version of myself and have the best quality of life possible. And forgot where I was going with it. Oh, I get like uncertain of where I'm going, and then I'm like, just breathe, relax, and I have to remind myself that I'm okay, even if I am changing, that change is inevitable, that's what keeps us human, and yeah. So, how has living your truth changed or impacted your life?
SPEAKER_02The biggest change is because I think I mentioned this earlier when I was living for things outside of myself, like I mentioned, I was living for society's arbitrary rules, and I in that state, I truly didn't even think happiness and fulfillment was available to me. But now that I create my own rules for life and live life for me, I'm in a state of happiness and fulfillment most of the time. And that doesn't mean I don't encounter challenges, that doesn't mean I don't feel like the quote unquote negative feelings. It just means like I actually feel alive and I'm living my life as opposed to going through the motions and just making a living.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's important to feel happy doing what you're doing in life rather than just going through the motions. When we go through the motions, then we feel like just a robot in an empty shell of a human being, and then when we are doing what we love and we get paid to do so, then we can have the fulfilled life, which is what everyone wants essentially. What if someone were to come to you and ask you to describe or to define what living and speaking your truth means, how would you what would your response be?
SPEAKER_02I would say that means being able to live your life and say whatever you want and do whatever you want and not even give a shit what anyone else thinks. Because the number one reason that we're not fully self-expressed is because we're too worried about what other people are thinking of us, and who are the, you know, what are they gonna think? What are they gonna say? And it's like if you are dimming your light for anyone outside of you, you are not being fully expressed. And like I used to live with chronic anxiety, and I didn't even realize, like, again, I was my own worst enemy. It was because I was suppressing who I really was outside of myself, and when I started living for me, like I don't I barely have anxiety anymore. And I'm not saying, like, if I get a negative comment online, of course that stings, but I don't let it derail my day. It takes like maybe 30 to 60 seconds to process through it and then keep on moving. I don't let it affect me.
SPEAKER_01Perfect. And if anyone wanted to work with you, how would they get a hold of you?
SPEAKER_02The best place is my website. It's Inner Glow by Angie. And I also wrote a book. So there's information on my book, there's also information on my coaching program.
