Leadership Horizons
This podcast aims to help leaders understand current and future leadership trends and encourage leaders to explore their horizons and understand the skills that will help them become even more successful moving forward.
Welcome to Leadership Horizons, where we explore leadership at its most transformative through two unique perspectives. I am Lois Burton, an executive coach and leadership development specialist and I've witnessed first hand how great leadership can transform organizations across sectors - from global corporations to public services, from manufacturing to the arts.
"Each week, I'll bring you either an in-depth conversation with a visionary leader who's redefining what's possible..."
"...or be inviting you to join me for focused explorations of critical leadership themes, where I'll share proven strategies and insights from my years of leadership development experience and research."
"Leadership Horizons, helping you to lead beyond boundaries -- Because the future of leadership knows no bounds. I'm looking forward to you joining me there"

Leadership Trailblazers Trailer
Something is ending and something bigger is beginning.
Leadership Horizons reaches its final chapter, and I wanted to pause long enough to say thank you for every listen, share, message, and moment of connection this show has sparked. Then we turn forward, because next week the podcast relaunches as Leadership Trailblazers with a new name, fresh energy, an expanded vision, and a launch-day giveaway you won’t want to miss.
Before we step into what’s next, I revisit the leadership themes that have shaped this journey and that I believe define great leadership right now: resilience, adaptability, courage, and trust. I break down resilience as a practical, buildable capacity, rooted in self-awareness, inner drive, energy management and emotional regulation, future focus, flexible thinking, strong relationships, and understanding the stress-pressure-performance dynamic.
We also talk about why adaptability matters in a world changing at speed and why courageous leadership often looks like having the conversation you’ve been avoiding.
We go deep on human leadership in the age of AI, where empathy, connection, intuition, credibility, and trust become even more valuable as technology expands. I leave you with three simple actions you can take this week: run a resilience audit, hold a courageous conversation with care and clarity, and bring one specifically human strength to your leadership.
Subscribe so Leadership Trailblazers lands in your feed, share this with a leader who needs it, and leave a review telling me what topic or guest you want next.

SPEAKER_00Well, hello, and welcome back to Leadership Horizons. I'm Lois Burton, executive coach and your host. And today's episode is a little bit different from our usual deep dives. Because this, my friend, is our final episode of Leadership Horizons. And I just wanted to take a moment to sit with that because it's quite something. This podcast has been an absolute joy to create. Today is episode 62, and the conversations and connections it sparked with so many of you have been genuinely wonderful. So before we go on to anything else today, I want to say a huge heartfelt thank you. Thank you for listening. Thank you for sharing episodes. Thank you for your messages and your feedback. It truly means the world. But here's the thing. And if you know me at all, you'll know I'm never really one for standing still. Because next week, something exciting is happening. Leadership Horizons is relaunching as Leadership Trailblazers. New name, new energy, expanded vision, and a brilliant giveaway on launch day that you are absolutely not going to want to miss. More on that in a moment. But first, I thought it would be fitting in this farewell episode to take a little look back at some of the most important themes we've explored together on Leadership Horizons. Because the truth is, these aren't just podcast topics. They're the foundations of what I really believe great leadership actually looks like right now. So let's revisit a few of them. Let's start with resilience because if there's one theme that has come up again and again throughout this podcast, it's this. And I make no apology for that because I truly believe resilience is the defining leadership quality of our time. Now, when I talk about resilience, I don't mean white-knuckling your way through difficulty. I mean building genuine capacity through the pillars of resilience, self-awareness, inner drive, energy management, including emotional regulation, future focus, flexible thinking, strong relationships, and understanding the stress-pressure performance dynamic. All topics that we've visited on the podcast and the exact same topics I visit with my clients on my Leading with Resilience program. Because when leaders have all of these working together, they don't just survive pressure, they actually grow through it. And time and again, the leaders I work with who have invested in their resilience are the ones who come out of challenges not just intact, but stronger, clearer, and more grounded. And closely linked to resilience is adaptability. We've talked a lot on this show about how the leadership landscape is shifting faster than at any other point in history. The organizations that are thriving are the ones led by people who can hold certainty and uncertainty at the same time, who can read a changing environment and move with it, not against it. Adaptability isn't about abandoning your values, it's about knowing which of your instincts to trust and which assumptions to let go of. That's a skill and it's one that can absolutely be developed. Then there's courage, and this one's very close to my heart. Because in my experience, many of the most significant leadership breakthroughs happen in the moments when someone chooses to be courageous. Whether that's having a difficult conversation, making an unpopular decision, speaking truth to power, or simply saying, I don't know, but here's how we're going to find out. Courage in leadership isn't the absence of fear, it's taking action in the presence of it. And I think we need that message now more than ever. We've also spent time on the question of human leadership in the age of AI. And this is one that I know has resonated deeply with many of you. And it's fundamental to many of the conversations I'm having at the moment. Because as AI becomes embedded in our organizations, there's a real risk that we start to think the human stuff, connection, empathy, intuition, trust, somehow matters less. And I want to say clearly it matters more. The leaders who rise in this next chapter are those going to be those who double down on their humanity. Not instead of understanding technology, but alongside it. What makes you irreplaceable is not what a machine can do for you. It's about what only you can do. And that brings me beautifully onto credibility and trust. Because in a world full of noise, information overload, fast change, AI-generated content everywhere, authentic credibility and genuine trust have been become the most precious currencies a leader can have. And they can't be faked. They're built slowly, through consistent action, through integrity, through doing what you say you're going to do. The leaders I respect most and the ones their teams follow most willingly are those whose people simply know this person means what they say and they say what they mean. So, in the spirit of keeping things practical, because you know me, I'm all about actionable insights, I want to leave you with three things you can take away from everything we've explored on leadership horizons. Number one, do a resilience audit. Take 10-15 minutes this week and honestly ask yourself, which of the pillars is strongest for me right now and which one needs attention? Might be your flexible thinking, your ability to reframe and adapt, or could be your inner drive, your sense of purpose, could be your emotional regulation, your ability to stay grounded under pressure. Or it could be one of the others. Just identifying where you are is the first step to building greater capacity. If you want to do this, go straight to my website, loisburtononline.com. The link is in the show notes, and download the free Leadership Resilience Audit there. Number two, have the courageous conversation you've been putting off. And I say this with love because most of us have one. There's a conversation sitting on the shelf that we know we need to have and we keep finding reasons not to. This week I want to challenge you to have it. Not aggressively, not apologetically, just honestly, with care and with clarity. Courageous conversations handled well build trust. And trust, as we've just said, is everything. And number three, identify one specifically human thing you can bring more of to your leadership this week. Whether that's deeper listening, genuine recognition, showing a little more of your authentic self to your team, whatever it is for you. In a world increasingly shaped by technology, your humanity is your greatest leadership asset. Use it. So what's next? Well, as I mentioned at the top, next week, Leadership Horizons is rebranding as Leadership Trailblazers. And I'm genuinely excited about this. The show you've loved, the deep dive solo episodes, exploring the big themes in leadership, they're absolutely saying, I know you love those, you've given me lots of feedback about that. And they're not going anywhere. But we're expanding. Because leadership trailblazers will also include many more brilliant guest episodes featuring pioneering leaders and thinkers from across the world. People who are redefining what leadership looks like. And I can't wait to introduce some of those conversations to you. So next week, remember Leadership Horizons will appear in your feed as Leadership Trailblazers. All the existing Leadership Horizons episodes will still be right there in your feed. Nothing is disappearing. There'll just be a new name and a fresh look when you tune in next Tuesday. And remember, next Wednesday, sorry, when you tune in next Wednesday, the 13th of May. Plus, there's going to be a YouTube channel if you want to watch as well as listen. Now, I would absolutely love to hear from you. If there's a topic you'd like me to explore in a future episode, or someone you'd love to see me interview, please do get in touch. You can reach me through LoiseburtonOnline.com or on LinkedIn. Your input genuinely shapes this show, and I mean this. And finally, make sure you tune in on Wednesday, the 13th of May, because on launch day I'm running a very special giveaway. We're talking about something I've never given free before, so please don't miss it. It has been the most wonderful journey creating leadership horizons with you. Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for every listen, every share, every message. The way we led yesterday is not going to lead us into tomorrow. And together we're going to keep exploring what that means. I'll see you on the other side. Until next Wednesday, take care, keep leading brilliantly, and I'll see you in Leadership Trail Playbook.
