If you have a website… but your Instagram link is sending people somewhere else We need to talk.

In this episode, I’m breaking down one of the simplest but most overlooked website upgrades you can make and why your link in bio should not be a Linktree.

Because you are working way too hard for those clicks to send them somewhere that doesn’t actually benefit your business.

What sparked this episode

A few weeks ago, I was part of a marketing panel with some incredible women where we talked all things websites, social media, email marketing, and analytics.

One topic that came up?

Link in bio tools like Linktree.

And my hot take is this:

👉 If you have a website, you should not be using one.

Why Linktree isn’t the move (for business owners)

Linktree absolutely has its place. It’s great for:

  • Influencers
  • Affiliate marketers
  • Creators without websites

But if you do have a website, using Linktree creates a huge missed opportunity.

You’re essentially doing all the work to get someone to click… and then sending them somewhere that doesn’t benefit you long-term.

What to do instead

Create a custom link in bio page on your website.

Think of it as your own version of Linktree… but better.

This page should live directly on your site (something like /links) and include:

  • Your offers
  • Your free resources
  • Your latest content
  • Your booking links
  • Anything you regularly send people to

Why this matters (a lot)

1. You’re driving traffic to your

2. It helps your SEO

3. You get full control over your branding

4. Better analytics + tracking

5. It just feels more polished

How to create your own

If you have a Showit website, this is incredibly easy to set up.

I actually include a custom link page like this for all of my website clients, and I also created a template based on my own page that you can customize.

If you’re not on Showit, no worries. You can:

  • Search Etsy for link in bio website templates
  • Build a simple page within your existing platform
  • Keep it clean, mobile-friendly, and easy to navigate

 My biggest takeaway

You are working hard for every single click.

Don’t waste it.

Send people somewhere that supports your business, builds your brand, and actually works for you long-term.

Loved this episode?

If this gave you an “oh wait… I should fix that” moment, you’re not alone.

And if your website still isn’t pulling its weight?

That’s kind of my thing 😉

Hi everyone. Welcome back to the One Wild Brandand podcast. I feel like I haven't done update about me in a while probably 'cause I don't always love talking about myself. But, spring has sprung here in New England. Maybe, I thought it did a little bit ago and then it snowed. That always happens. I love to garden and I'm big into my landscape. I feel like every single year, all of the hundreds of bulbs, tulip bulbs, and hyacinths and daffodils and everything we have outside, I'm so excited for them to bloom and they pop up and then it snows and they all kind of really suffer after that. Which is just New England playing tricks on this. But besides that, I was thinking of just random things to say about my life. My daughter, who is one, she turned one in January, just started walking. That has been so cute to see. I think she likes, because she's so kind of petite, that it's funny to kind of see her walk around. It kind of like doesn't seem right, like she's too small. but she definitely likes being independent and. Teasing her older brother, my son who's four, she's very sassy with him. And then, let's see what else. I have been rereading, well re-listening to the Harry Potter series. I have read this series and listened to this series before. I probably talk a lot about Harry Potter because I'm obsessed and I got into that series when I was, I'm trying to think of how old I was. I think I was 12 and 12. 12 ish. And I remember my English teacher at the time introduced, she loved it so much, she gave everyone in the class a copy of the book, a paperback copy, and I read it and I was obsessed with it. And I think only a few of the books were out at that time. And then that really took me like, through so much of the rest of my, well, definitely to the rest of my life to this point. But, I can remember kind of being in like later high school, maybe early college, being at Barnes and Noble when books were, new, books were released. Obviously the movies were huge to me, going to see those. and it's a series like that has never strayed from me. The sh the movies are like my comfort movies. They are. Pretty much on all the time in this house. So I've been rereading the series, or re-listening to, on. Audible, they came out with these full cast versions, which are kind of like mini productions, honestly. They're, it's a great way to listen to them or if you have kids to listen to them. So they've been releasing those slowly too. So I think only the fifth book is out, and that's the one I'm on right now. I listen to it, every night as I'm falling asleep. Some nights not getting through very much, but I've been listening to that. And then, Otherwise, I am just very much looking forward to spring and warmer weather and going outside with the kids. I think, being in New England, it's, it's tough to be trapped inside all the time. With your kids, you definitely go a little crazy and it's important for them to be. Outdoors and they love it. Even my little daughter, seems to really like it out there. I felt like when my son was small, he was really iffy of the outdoors. Like he didn't like grass for some reason. So it's good that she's not putting up a fight there, so we shouldn't have any problems this summer. but okay. A couple weeks ago launching into today's topic, a couple weeks ago, I was on a marketing panel. I was asked to be on a marketing panel. And it was a lot of fun. It was myself and two other ladies and we dove into so many things that we probably could have gone on for at least another hour. I mean, I could go on all day, but at least another hour on different things. So myself, I was talking a lot about, you know, website and design and, and SEO and things, and then a woman named Abby from Resonate Social did the social media piece, and a woman named Marie did. More kind of broad marketing. She talked a lot about email marketing, analytics, things like that. So together, it was just so fun to share ideas. I think we agreed on a lot of stuff, and it was, an intimate group. And that I really liked because we were able to really converse with the audience and allow them to ask questions, and it was more interactive and therefore I think more productive. Another thing I thought was really cool is everyone who was. There both our host, we were hosted at Pink Clover Studio in Wyndham, New Hampshire by Kate Fleming. She's a photographer and also owns this studio, which is a photography studio. That I actually had my brand photos taken with her. They partially there and partially somewhere else back in February, and she's wonderful. And we have obviously maintained, connection since then. but she owns this really cool studio. It's a photography studio, but you're also able to rent it out or have a membership to it. So for people who, you know, are content creators of any source. Being able to rent it, to go there, to capture photos, to capture content. My photos came out beautiful. is really cool. I just love her whole, the whole thing she's got going on there and she hosts a lot of workshops and things. but anyhow, everyone who was there both. Panelists, our hosts and attendees is part of a Women's Business League chapter somewhere. So Women's Business League is an organization, local to me, but there's a bunch of different chapters depending on where you live, and I think all the chapters kind of meet at. A different cadence, but my personal chapter, we meet every other week alternating virtual and in person, and we get together and we talk about different business topics. We break out into small groups. We're obviously there to do a bit of networking and be supportive of each other. So it's a really nice kinda low pressure, but supportive group. So I thought it was really cool that everyone there was a member of one and a bunch of different chapters were represented. One of the things that came up. During the panel, which Abby from Resonate Social brought up. Is the topic of not using a link in bio tool, something like Link Tree or I know there's some others out there, and using an actual landing page on your website that is designed specifically. For your link in bio and kind of the pros and cons there. this is something that I always do for my clients. I design them a custom page on their website that is to be used in place of a link tree or something like that. So. I wanna talk about the importance of this and kind of break it down and kind of give you guys some pointers here on how you can switch over and why you should, because you know, in my opinion, most everyone, if you have a website, you should not be using TRE or anything else. So what most people are doing. Is they're using a Link tree, but Link Tree is actually for, you know, kind of influencers, affiliate marketers, people without websites. So one kind of place that I see this a lot is. I follow a lot of Instagram accounts that are kind of like cooking, so it just making meals and they have a lot of followers, but they don't necessarily need a website for this. But they wanna be able to kind of cash in on what they're doing, right? They wanna be able to say, this is the olive oil that I love. this is the cookware. And maybe they have an Amazon storefront built in or something. and Link Tree is a great way to link to those places. So that is just one example of who that might work for. but the problem is there's some missed opportunity for people who actually have businesses and a website here. So on your Instagram. Or whatever, platform you're on, you're working hard to get people to go to your website or perform some kind of action. You're working hard for that click okay, and then you're sending it somewhere else, which is Link Tree. When you can design a actual living page within your website that is going. Have the function of a link tree, right? You're gonna be able to lay it out where there's different buttons and different things that they can get, but it's gonna live on your website, thus driving traffic to your website and helping with so many things, SEO and general traffic in general. so that right there alone is huge. And one of the other things that I obviously really like is you get full control over your design and branding here. You get it to be cohesive with the rest of your website and your. Brand colors, brand fonts, all of those things, link Tree and other tools can be a little bit limiting in that sense. Like yeah, you kind of are able to slap some of your colors in there and put some photos and things, but it's not quite the same. Also, again, the, the SEO is just huge. Every click is gonna strengthen your search engine rankings because it signals to Google that you're popular and you offer value. Right? And then of course, just better analytics and tracking. You're able to see on Google Analytics, what all of this means. But now you can even like use retargeting ads to show relevant offers and things depending on what someone clicks on. To me also, I think this really brings a brand together and makes it feel a lot more buttoned up when everything feels cohesive. It's, it's one place. It's not like clunky here and there. We're doing a little bit of this on Link Tree. We're doing a little bit of this on my website. We're, you know, we're a million different places, so I love that. Now I'm sure people are like, okay, yeah. How the heck do I make this? Okay. Well, if you have a Showit website, I have a template for sale in my template shop. Right now. It's actually the only, only template I have for sale, in my template shop. But that will be changing this year and I'm very excited. But, I made this a, a while ago. I just haven't really. Spoken about it before, it's kind of, it's based off the one that I use personally on my website. It's meant to have a bit of like a stand store type of feel to it. but I have one for sale. I have it a couple different places. I have it for sale on my website and also via Etsy, and I will link to both of those places. So. When I design a website for a website client, I always include this. So typical pages that I'm making on a website are homepage services, maybe their portfolio, products, courses, and about me page. And then I make a page that is meant to be. In standing in place for a link in bio. So it will usually say like links or, you know, that will be the name of the page. Something really simple. so I believe for my website it's wild brand.com/links and that is that page. And what I also like about these is they're friendly for, I'm able to design them and other people are able to design them as well to be both mobile friendly and desktop friendly. So. They look great both places because I have mine on my Facebook as well. I have, and people, you know, often are viewing that on a desktop. That's just kind of what I've noticed with my traffic from Facebook. so when they click away, it is meant to look beautiful on desktop version as well. So if you have a show it page. You are able to grab my template and incorporate it into your website. Change it to be your branding colors, and that's very easy. If not, I am sure no matter where your website is hosted, you will be able to find a template of sorts. on Etsy. I would also just Google it as well. Okay, so this was a quickie episode, just wrapping up here. My biggest piece of advice, if you have a website, have your Lincoln Bio be built on that website as well. If you do not have a website, something like TRE or something similar should absolutely be suitable for you. Again, you are working hard for those clicks. Make them perform, drive them to something that is gonna actually help you in the long run, which is your SEO. Alright, thank you so much for listening everyone, and I'll catch you on the next episode. I.
