Bernadette Woods Placky

Bernadette Woods Placky is chief meteorologist and vice president for engagement at Climate Central. There, she also directs the Climate Matters program, helping the public understand the importance of climate-change science, impacts, and solutions. Placky develops partnerships with the media, nonprofits, and academic institutions; leads a team that creates weekly, local data and other reporting resources; and serves as an expert on the links between climate change and weather. Prior to this, she was a meteorologist at CBS News in Baltimore, where she won an Emmy for Best Weathercaster. Placky previously was a TV meteorologist in Lexington, Kentucky, and Fayetteville, Arkansas. A science adviser for C-Change Conversations, she is an elected member of the National Academy Board of Atmospheric Science and Climate.

Bill Nye The Science Guy

Bill Nye, also known as "Bill Nye the Science Guy", is an American science educator, engineer, comedian, author, and television personality.

Born in 1955 in Washington, D.C., Nye earned a mechanical engineering degree from Cornell University in 1977. After a career as an engineer at Boeing, he transitioned into comedy and acting, eventually leading to his popular children's science show "Bill Nye the Science Guy", which aired from 1993 to 1998. Nye's show aimed to make science accessible and fun for children, earning him seven Emmy Awards.


Since "Bill Nye the Science Guy", he has hosted other science-related shows and specials, including "The Eyes of Nye" and "Bill Nye Saves the World". He's also authored several science books for both children and adults and is known for his advocacy for science education and critical thinking. Nye is currently the CEO of The Planetary Society, promoting space exploration and scientific discovery.

Dana R Fisher

Dana R. Fisher is a dynamic speaker and author who writes about activism, democracy and climate policy. Her most recent book, Saving Ourselves: from Climate Shocks to Climate Action was published in 2024 by Columbia University Press.  She is the Director of the Center for Environment, Community, & Equity (CECE) and a Professor in the School of International Service at American University.  Her current projects include evaluating the ways that nationally coordinated service corps programs are expanding their climate-related work and the effects of all sorts of activism, engagement, and protest.  Fisher is a Nonresident Senior Fellow with the Governance Studies program at The Brookings Institution and the chair of the Political Sociology section of the American Sociological Association.

Dr. Elizabeth Gray serves as Audubon’s Chief Executive Officer, leading the organization toward its vision of a future where birds thrive. Jane Lubchenco

Dr. Lubchenco is a world-renowned environmental scientist with deep experience in science, academia, and government. She is a champion of science, the stronger engagement of scientists with society, and finding durable solutions to environmental challenges. She served as Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration from 2009-2013. She was an inaugural member of President Obama's “Science Dream Team".  From 2014 to 2016 she served as the first U.S. Science Envoy for the Ocean. She is a marine ecologist and environmental scientist, with expertise in the ocean, climate change, and interactions between the environment and human well-being. To introduce her to his Senate colleagues for her confirmation hearing, Senator Ron Wyden called Lubchenco ‘the bionic woman of good science.’ ​

Leticia Reis de Carvalho

On 1 January 2025, Ms. Leticia Reis de Carvalho assumed office as the fourth Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority (ISA), following her election on 2 August 2024. Her appointment marks a new chapter in the ISA’s leadership, bringing with it decades of experience in global environmental governance, multilateral negotiations and regulatory innovation.

A seasoned United Nations diplomat, Ms. Carvalho previously served as Special Adviser to the Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on freshwater ecosystems. Prior to that role, she led the UNEP Marine and Freshwater Branch, where she championed sustainable marine resource management and promoted the blue economy on a global scale.
