The Importance of Competitive Analysis
Speaker 1When we start working with a client, what's one of the very first things that we do before we can kind of come up with a game plan?
Speaker 2Well, we go through and do a competitive analysis. Right, we figure out what their competitors are doing, who their competitors are, what their competitors are doing and how we can do that better than them.
Speaker 1Exactly.
Speaker 2And then what other gaps that none of the competitors are doing, and how can we fill that?
Speaker 1Right, yeah. So if you don't understand who your competitors are, which a lot of times you work with companies and you're like, oh, here's my competitor, it's these guys, these guys and these guys and then we dig in and we're like, well, yes, yes, but they're not your top competitors.
Interactive Competitor Blueprint Explained
Speaker 1But there's also these guys you need to consider as well. Oh, I to consider as well. I didn't even know about those people. Competitive analysis is one of the most important first steps you can do in trying to understand how to grow your business, one thing that we do. We have all sorts of tools and tricks that we do to scour the internet to find out who are your guys that you need to be aware of. On our screen here we just have an example of a competitive analysis that we've done for a recent client and just wanted to kind of share it with all of you so you can kind of understand what it looks like and kind of what you need to be aware of as you do this for you, for yourself and your businesses.
Speaker 1So I'm not going to go through this in a lot of detail, but basically you can kind of see how detailed we get here and where we talk about the landscape of their competitors. We talk about dominant digital channels. This one happens to be for a local business where they service like a local area. They do insulation, and so we go through and we, we just we just go crazy on it and we identify market gaps, things like that. So this is really boring just to read, and so what we like to do is put together an interactive like kind of blueprint for these clients, and so you can kind of see, here you have a little menu you can scroll through and find out all this information that's on there you can kind of view it in a more fun way and also just a more, an easier way to comprehend.
Speaker 1So yeah you can see, here we have the digital landscape, like we just looked at. We talked about the currency of trust and how you need reviews, ratings and things like this. We also pull all the content from their competitors and kind of give it a visualized graphic of where their focus is and like what they're doing well in, and then we go and do some detailed competitor profiles to where we talk about.
Speaker 1here's what they're doing, here's a weakness, here's some action items that you can start on, and we do that for several of their main clients. And then we look at strategic Strategic.

Strategic Checklists for Implementation
Speaker 1Strategery, strategic opportunity, and in this case there's not a lot of People that are focusing on kind of more of the industrial installation content, and so we've identified that as a potential opportunity for this particular business. And then we have a blueprint of growth and this is just such valuable information to have If you're a business that wants to grow and understand the competition and understand, okay, what keywords do we need to start incorporating, like what content do we need to create around, like all these different search terms that people are actually searching for in this area, and then to have kind of an action item list that they can go through check off as they get it done, lists that they can go through check off as they get it done. And you know, we kind of have just a phased implementation roadmap of here's what to focus on on the first 30 days, 60, 90 days and onwards. So yeah, just an example of kind of what we do for clients that want to grow their business, kind of one of those first steps, like you mentioned.
Speaker 2Right and I like the checklist. A lot of our clients like the checklist because then they can actually go and do stuff themselves, whether we're doing consulting, where we go in, analyze what a company is doing, see what their competitor is doing, build an action plan like this, and then their teams implement it, or they bring us on and we help implement it. But having a checklist is nice for them. So at the end of like us doing an analysis, they feel like they have something that they can actually go do and accomplish that will help them move their business forward. And the checklist is nice, like the information we give in. Our full analysis is great, but most of our clients aren't going to sit down and read the whole thing. That's why we've built this interactive website that every client will get, so that they can go through and it seems more attainable that you know what I mean.
Speaker 2Like you look through, you're like oh cool, I, I understand this more than just trying to read it and, like you know, uh digest a ton of uh just words and information the question that most people have after they see something like the, the word doc, you know the big word vomit you know like yeah is oh, now what you know, and?
Speaker 1and? So I think the interactive version answers that. Now, what question Exactly? This is great information. Now what do I need to do about it? Right, and so, yeah, this gives them a really quick, actionable growth checklist to start just plugging away at and everyone needs a good checklist, especially when they're running their business.
