Unboxing the Meta Ray-Ban Glasses

Speaker 1

So I got these the other day.

Speaker 2

Oh, the Metaglasses, yeah they finally came.

Speaker 1

I haven't opened them up yet though.

Speaker 2

Well, you got to open them. Open them up, that's cool. They're one style, right? You can't buy different styles, right?

Speaker 1

now it's just one or they're multiple. There's a couple different ones, oh really, so there's one that's a little more. These are Ray-Ban here. Oh, that's got some, some nice uh ray-ban case case, there's a scan to get started. I don't know if we want. Do you want me to do that right now? It might take a while. No, no, okay but do.

Speaker 2

How does it charge?

Speaker 1

I don't know I'm assuming there's got to be a cord in there, right there's, there's something in here like it's like there's something in here that's kind of hard to get out.

Speaker 2

I was kind of curious because I know somebody that a client has bought the glasses to record video and stuff because it records video.

Speaker 1

Yeah.

Speaker 2

At a pretty good level actually.

Speaker 1

Yeah, so one interesting thing about them is like so my brother-in-law has them. There's no safety warranty stuff. My brother-in-law has them and he was showing them. Oh, like it illuminates right there.

Speaker 2

Oh, it charges in the case it might Whoa.

Speaker 1

So it's like.

Speaker 2

They're like AirPods. You know AirPods, you put them in the case and they charge. So you have to charge the case up.

Speaker 1

So there's a little arrow that's like pull up on. So I don't know what that. It probably did something with the battery. Yeah, probably activated it. Sorry, I'm like trying to do this so that you guys can all see it too. So there's like some device in there that looks like that's what charges it.

Speaker 2

Oh, you put the nose on it.

Speaker 1

So some device in there that looks like that's what you put the nose on it.

Speaker 2

So look at the nose part. Yeah, there's like some little contacts in here. Okay, that's cool. So it looks like it does charge. In the case, it's very similar setup to like airpods where you put the airpod on the bottom. Yeah, so you, you plug that in just like an airpod, the airpod case would be, and then when you put it in the case, it charges.

Key Features and Capabilities

Speaker 1

That's pretty cool, so I used to have glasses and I got lasik. So I but I I wanted to get transition ones, because I'm like I don't want to have, like I want to be able to use these in my everyday life yeah, yeah right, and so I don't want to have to switch to sunglasses, right, so I got the transition ones.

Speaker 2

They were like 50 bucks more and uh, yeah, so here we go oh, I like it, dude, I just got some really pleasant uh audio coming, I think that's crazy, because you couldn't hear from here and we're pretty quiet and that's a crazy thing.

Speaker 1

So my brother-in-law? He was walking and listening to music.

Speaker 2

I could hear nothing and you're like walking with him.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I was right next to him and I couldn't hear so we'll have to do some tests after I set this up, but they're very comfortable, like very comfortable yes, this is how. This is how I used to look. Now I look smart, so yeah, you look like me.

Speaker 2

That's what it is. Twinner, we basically have the same glasses. Yeah, those are a little thicker.

Speaker 1

We're gonna switch the name from launching pros to launching bros. People just think the arnold schwar Schwarzenegger fist with the two big biceps.

Speaker 2

Yeah, that's cool. They look sweet. So what are the capabilities right now? Obviously, you can record video.

Speaker 1

You see the two cameras yeah, there's probably a lot more capabilities than I know of, I'm hoping.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Obviously, you can record video, which was really appealing to me because, especially with having kids, yeah. I never wanted. Like I always hate recording them on the phone.

Speaker 2

Yeah.

Speaker 1

Because they act totally different. They do.

Speaker 2

And you're not experiencing what they do. They perform is what they do. I'm not telling them this records a video.

Stealth Recording and Privacy Concerns

Speaker 1

Yeah, and I'm just going to tap it to record, because I think that's how you activate it and I'll just do that and just actually enjoy looking at them while it's recording. That was kind of the biggest appeal to me. I've heard it does live translation, so like you're talking to someone who's speaking a different language and the audio it translates. Do you know?

Speaker 2

can you put prescription lenses in those you can yep? You can put prescription lenses in those you can.

Speaker 1

Yep, you can put prescription lenses in them as well, they already look like my glasses.

Speaker 2

Yeah, they kind of do, don't they? At some points, if my, they have some that are more girly because they're rounded and they also have an Oakley version, but they're weird looking.

Speaker 1

They're kind of round and there's like some weird shape. I just don't like it. Was it more?

Speaker 2

sporty or, yeah, more sporty, but even then, like I just they just weren't, yeah, what I normally would want to wear. Yeah, like, if, if my prescription is terrible, like a terrible astigmatism and eyesight, so I have to. My lenses are so thick, even on ones like these, they, they struggle to. You have to buy like the higher end lenses to actually fit inside the it'd be interesting to see if those would fit in there.

Speaker 2

So yeah, that'd be cool though, because then it's like I already wear glasses right like that'd be kind of cool right to at least have another option, like when I want to do stuff like that like record it. Yeah, it'd be cool playing like catch with my son and like being able to record playing catch and it's just like just normal.

Speaker 1

Think about the future too, to when these become even better and can do the spatial here. Do you want to try? Yeah?

Speaker 2

When they can do the. They're like flashing blue too.

Speaker 1

Yeah, I think it's in pairing mode is what I'm.

Speaker 2

Does it pair to your phone?

Speaker 1

I hope so, because I want to be able to send text messages and stuff.

Speaker 2

Oh, that's a good oh yeah, they're comfortable, though, aren't they? Yeah, everything's blurry right now.

Speaker 1

I can't see, but uh so I look really good, right? Yeah, you look way better than normal, actually um yeah, these are cool.

Speaker 2

They fit really nice. I thought I thought they wouldn't fit nice like.

Speaker 1

I thought they wouldn't I don't know, feel the same as normal glasses, but they yeah I wonder if eventually, like stores and stuff won't allow you in their stores if you're wearing those.

Speaker 2

No, I don't think they'll care you can't film in here dude.

Speaker 1

Well, that's a way to be fair.

Speaker 2

For like two and a half years you could wear a mask into a store and nobody said anything. I think glasses you're gonna probably find.

Speaker 1

You know what I mean think about, though, how advantageous this could be for some, like youtubers who go into stores that normally kick them out. You just take a buddy with those glasses in and you can record whatever you want. They're never going to see you recording anything.

Speaker 2

That's a good point like if you're in like a grocery store or something. Yeah, because well you know also, um, there's all, there's these, uh, like I don't know what you call them. They're like youtube videos of people doing nice things for people, right, and and I always think when they're doing this like homeless people and stuff, they're like, hey, man, like they act like they're homeless, like, hey, do you have $10? I can have. I need to go get lunch. And they're asking somebody that's obviously poor, and then the poor person's like yeah sure.

Translation Features and Future Tech

Speaker 2

And then gives them money because you did that. Here's a thousand bucks or whatever Cool videos. But also I always think to myself they see them recording. They have to because it's like a GoPro footage or a phone or something.

Speaker 1

I mean, they could be far away.

Speaker 2

No, sometimes it's like a POV, so it's a point of view of the thing.

Speaker 1

Those glasses would fall down, so something like this would make sense. Yeah, what happened? I?

Speaker 2

tapped it and it went do-do-do-do oh.

Speaker 1

So I don't know what I'm doing. What are you messing with them? For I may be.

Speaker 2

Stop screwing around.

Speaker 1

I may be recording don't touch the lenses, you get them dirty. Did I touch the lens?

Speaker 2

I'm trying to touch the oh lenses of the camera.

Speaker 1

You mean yeah oh, there's a bug right there. I think that turns it.

Speaker 2

Oh yeah, so when you're filming, I think there's a little light that shows that you're recording, so maybe, maybe it won't work as well as we thought I mean, yeah, I think you know what you could do is probably just put a piece of black tape on the light it says it'll prompt you to remove it. Oh really yeah yeah, something I read about.

Speaker 1

So yeah, I'll have to play around. Makes sense they're?

Speaker 2

trying not to make it so it's not incognito.

Speaker 1

So people that record it although the light, so I think I am recording you right now.

Speaker 2

I don't know if that's actually that's cool. Yeah, it's like a picture.

Speaker 1

It sounds like it's taking a picture there's a light on for a second, then it turns off, so maybe it's taking a picture.

Speaker 2

Those are cool, though, dude. How much were they?

Speaker 1

I think like $380.

Speaker 2

Dude. I mean for my glasses. I spend like that too. After the lenses, get some smart glasses I think these are.

Speaker 1

I was hesitant to buy it just because I know the technology is just around the corner to where they're going to be able to display stuff on the screen and things like that, to where these will become obsolete pretty quickly, I think well, you did say that it can translate.

Speaker 2

Now, right, with the cameras, it'll translate.

Speaker 1

And then it'll translate and tell you in the ear yeah, like, hey, um, like, if somebody's speaking spanish, it'll translate to english, which is pretty cool it is awesome, very helpful if you're like on a cruise or vacation and you're going out of country yeah, we went to japan and like that would have been so helpful yeah, super helpful if I could have understood them at least. I don't know if they would have been able to understand me yeah but to be able to understand them would have been, would have been awesome yeah I think.

Speaker 2

I think what you're saying is right. They're going to come up with some sort of projection where you look at a sign in Japan and it will translate it on your glasses. They already have the technology for that where people can't see. If they're looking this way, they won't be able to see it. But I saw a video of a helmet company I think it's called Shutt company.

Speaker 2

I think it's called shut, and they, they made these uh helmets for the deaf schools that play football, where they used to have to have like a gong where everyone would hear the vibration and so everybody on the team would know, like the pattern of the gong and that would tell them which play to run. That's really interesting and then now they have helmets that actually have a glass and then the coach just types in the play and it will come up on their glass so they can all read it. Okay, cool.

Speaker 1

And then they go down and play, so that technology will exist.

Speaker 2

It's already there. They're going to put it in this.

Speaker 1

The most challenging thing is the small form factor To be able to put in that much tech into something that you'll not feel silly wearing we're getting close to the Iron man from the glasses. You know, glasses, heads up displays, yeah, well like there's uh, I think it's from the third superman.

Speaker 2

Oh, spider-man, sorry, tony stark dies, but he gives him the glasses. That's the last thing I don't even remember.

Speaker 1

Oh, you should watch them.

Speaker 2

It's the very last. It's the third. No, it's the second. It's not even the third, it's the second spider-man oh, okay far from home, I think, is what it is. Okay, but it comes with like Tony Stark just died after the Avengers and he gives them glasses and the glasses are like basically having a suit, but it's just the glasses.

Speaker 1

Oh cool.

Speaker 2

And so he can control things and all that stuff. But that's the whole thing. It's like getting close, it's going to get there.

Speaker 1

Not there, but you know what I mean. I didn't tell my wife I bought these, oh nice.

Speaker 2

Yeah, we should let her know.

Speaker 1

I'm going to get an earful in about 10 minutes here.

Speaker 2

You're going to go up with them. She's like what the hell?

Speaker 1

are those. She's like what did you buy now?
