December is full of social events, late nights, disrupted routines, and endless opportunities to say “I’ll start again in January.”

 But the truth?

Christmas is just 1 day — and pressing pause for four or five weeks can destroy your progress and your momentum.

In this episode, Josh explains exactly how to navigate the festive season without going backwards.

 You’ll learn:

  • Why you must shift from “all or nothing” into a “maintain, don’t meltdown” mindset
  • How TF structures December training to keep you consistent
  • The danger of waiting until motivation magically appears in January
  • Why action → momentum → motivation (not the other way around)
  • How to enjoy Christmas guilt-free without abandoning your health

Hey guys, welcome back to this week's podcast in today's podcast.

We're going to be discussing how to stay on track over the festive period. Now, for me, many people, this is a period of relaxation, leisure, spending time with friends, family, work events, social events, catching up with people you've not seen for a long time. And it's important that we acknowledge that and treat this festive season for what it is. But what I'm here to tell you is that your health and your fitness still matters during this time. And just because we've got Christmas and New Year two days towards the end of this month doesn't give you a reason and an excuse to to let all the hard work that you've put in fall by the wayside over this period of time. I sit here today releasing this episode at the beginning of December and I know that was going to be many distractions coming up over the next few weeks for you. And one of the things that we do at TF is we kind of we plan cycles of training and blocks of training, say, over four, six, eight weeks of time. We're currently in an eight-w block of training at the moment and that eight-week block takes us up until the week of Christmas, I believe. So we finish the week before Christmas. And what we will be doing over the Christmas period for three to four weeks is programming in a mini block, a more simplified block, which allows people to get in, you know, two, maybe three sessions a week if they can, over that period of time without the stresses of having to train on the same time and the same days because we know that your routine is going to go out of a window over this time. What's really important to us and to yourself is actually just trying to top up your your fitness and think about this period of time as a time when you don't go backwards. It's going to be so easy for you to say, yeah, you know what? I'll pick it back up again in January. And then you know what? In a month's time, you still feel like you can't be asked to start training again because you've spent the whole of Christmas drinking, eating, sat around, being sedentary, which is the exact habits and lifestyle, which has put you in the position where you need to work on your health and fitness anyway. Okay. And if you think that sitting around eating, drinking and being sedentary for four weeks is somehow deserved or earned, then there's an issue with your mindset here. And I don't mean to beat down on you. I honestly don't. I know it's so easy and culturally accepted for us to just neglect our health and fitness in today's day and age, but it is fundamentally wrong. And whilst you may not be able to, you know, pull any trees up in terms of your weight loss in terms of your fitness gains in terms of your strength gains over this period of time, it's important that you don't let yourself slip so far backwards, that you spend the first month of 2026, just trying to catch up and get back into the routine that you finish 2020.5 on, that's not what we want and that's not what we represented, transformation fit. We're all about progress over perfection, consistency over intensity. So even if you can't apply 100% effort and intensity to your diet, exercise, sleep over this festive period of time, it doesn't mean that you can completely press pause and not do anything over that period of time. I know how easy it is to fall into the track of thinking, well, I'll just start after Christmas now. But the reality is Christmas is around just one week. There's always distractions and things that are going to stop you from achieving your goals. By the time Christmas is over, people will be be feeling sluggish. People will be feeling a bit down, will be in the middle of winter. It will be cold, it will be dark, right? There'll be so many reasons as to why you don't feel like you want to go and exercise and you want to go and train. And you'll sit there waiting around for motivation to strike. The reality is, though, motivation rarely punches you in the face and makes you get going. That's very rare that that happens. What? What normally happens is you'll take a little action, you'll build upon that action. You'll start to repeat that action a little bit more frequently, you'll start to feel a little bit better of as a result of taking those actions. And slowly over time, as you start to take action, the motivation follows. people think action follows motivation. It doesn't. Motivation follows action. In order for you to feel mot motivated, to feel like you're in control of your health and fitness, to feel like you're on top of things, it requires you taking action, not waiting around, and saying, I'll do it when I'm motivated or I'll do it when Christmas is over or I'll do it when New Year's out of the way or the wedding or the honeymoon or the holiday or whatever it is at that period of time, which is stopping you from achieving your goals. You see, the smarter you are, the easier it is to make excuses and justify not taking the action match required for you to be happy, for you to achieve your goals. So, please, please, please, don't take this the wrong way. I'm not here to rant and tell you off. I'm just here to sense check you, okay? And make sure that your thinking is clear if you're deciding to take some time off over the festive period. It's okay to take down time, but let me tell you one thing. It's much harder, much, much harder to pick it back up again if you choose to take two, three, four, five weeks off of your exercise regime over the festive period. I hope. hope that makes sense, guys. If you feel like you need additional support over this festive period, then we've just released a brand new transformation fit Christmas survival guide.
