Have you ever reached a point where you stopped trying to figure it all out—and just surrendered it to God?
That's exactly what happened to me over the past 4 days.
In this raw and real episode, I'm sharing what took place when I made the intentional decision to fast and truly seek God—not casually, not when it was convenient, but with purpose. And what happened? A breakthrough I couldn't keep to myself.
I walked through four days of Scripture, distraction, temptation, worship, and ultimately—confirmation. From Deuteronomy 8 to Proverbs 17, from a stressful payroll email to a life-changing phone call, God showed up in ways that can only be described as divine timing.
In this episode, I share:
Why I chose to fast—and what I was seeking from God
How Day 2 tested me (and how Scripture saved me from breaking my fast)
A powerful revelation about prayer that shifted my entire perspective
The exact moment God confirmed what I had been believing for
3 takeaways you can apply right now, whether you fast or not

Hey, hey, hey, and welcome back to the Cocoa Glen podcast. And if you're new here, welcome. I am your host, Jamie Newton Knight, and today's episode is a little bit different, but it's right on time. I want to talk about what just happened in my life over the past four days because I made a decision to fast and truly seek God. And I experienced a breakthrough that I just can't keep to myself. But before I get into that, please go ahead and follow this podcast if you aren't already. And please leave a review if you enjoy it. And for those watching on YouTube, don't forget to subscribe to this channel, like this video, leave a comment letting me know where you're watching from. And most importantly, hit that notification bell so that you don't miss a thing. All right, y'all. So today's episode is called What Happened When I Fasted for Four Days? Over the past four days, I was fasting and praying. And that's not something that I just go around sharing. Um, I wasn't just praying casually, but it was very, very much so intentional. I was seeking God's provision for my life, for my marriage, for my kids, for my job, for my family, and for my business, because I have a business, and even for this podcast. And I wasn't looking for anything flashy. I just wanted some direction and some clarity and some alignment. Now on day one, I was led to read Deuteronomy 8. Honestly, I just prayed and I asked Holy Spirit where I should start. And Deuteronomy popped into my head. I need to preface this by saying that I'm not well versed in scripture. So none of these scriptures I was just led to read during the fast was selected by me. I just said, Lord, help me find a scripture, and literally it popped into my head. So that chapter in Deuteronomy reminded me how God provides even in the wilderness. Even when things feel uncertain, he's still sustaining you. Now, day two, I read Luke three and four. And this is where it got real for me, because it's where Jesus fasted too. So my morning started off with a lot of distractions. I got an email from my job saying that we weren't, that they weren't allowed to release our paychecks until the governor signed the new 2025-2026 budget. So of course that threw me off guard, right? That caught me off guard because nobody wakes up thinking, like, oh, I'm not gonna get paid today. So I was super annoyed and I started to stress about, you know, thinking about like, oh, you know, possible late fees on my bills and bills simply just not getting paid. And so it was just frustrating. And immediately I was like, what snack can I grab to eat? Because I'm just I'm stressing out, right? And instead of grabbing a snack, I grabbed the Bible and I read the scripture, Luke 4. Now I'm gonna read it a little bit of it for you, okay? So I'm reading from the New Living Translation, and it says, Luke 4, then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from Jordan, the Jordan River. He was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, where he was tempted by the devil for 40 days. Jesus ate nothing all that time and became very hungry. Then the devil said to him, So this is where for me is like, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go off script a little bit, right? So basically it's saying that the devil was like, if you are the son of God, then tell that stone to become bread, right? To become a loaf of bread. And Jesus told him, like, no, I'm not doing that. The scriptures say that people do not live on bread alone. So then the devil took him up and revealed to him all the kingdoms, right, of the world. And he said, I will give you the glory of all these kingdoms and the authority over all of them, because they're mine to give to anyone that I please. I will give it all to you if you will worship me. Jesus was like, Uh, the scriptures say you must worship the Lord your God and serve him only. Not you, Satan, but him only, right? So then the devil took him to Jerusalem to the highest point of the temple and said, If you're the son of God, here we go again, right? With the tempting, jump off. For the scriptures say, He will order his angels to protect and guard you, and they'll hold you up with their hand so that you won't even hurt your foot on a stone. Again, sounds so tempting, doesn't it, right? And Jesus said, But the scriptures say you must not test the Lord your God. When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came. He said, I'm I'm gonna keep trying. I'm gonna keep trying. I'm I'm try with this bread first. No, okay, I can't get you there. All right, all right, all right. Well, what about what about what about? I tell you you can be over all of this. I can I can give it to anybody, you can have it. God was like, mm-hmm. Jesus was like, no, the Bible says, the word says, right? Scripture says, all right. So I'm read, read it for yourself. But Luke 4, okay? So it made me realize fasting isn't just about sacrifice. It's about preparation. Preparation for what God is about to do next. Because listen, in that moment, I was tempted. I mean truly tempted and was ready to break my fast. But I'm so happy that I read that scripture first. And that brings me to day three. So I read John 1. And this day, while I was fasting, I came across a video called How to Pray. And it was by Philip Anthony Mitchell. I'm sure many of you have heard of him. If you haven't, go check him out. And it hit me because if I'm being honest, I've had moments where I didn't feel qualified to pray for others. I felt like, who am I to be praying over somebody else? I don't even pray the right way. So if you've been listening to me or, you know, following me, listened to me on the podcast, saw me on social media, then you've heard me speak about how unqualified I feel when I'm praying for others. Because my private prayers sound like this conversation I'm having right now sounds like a conversation between me and God. But I've been around some major, major prayer warriors, and I pray nothing like them at all. So I felt unqualified. But what he said shifted everything in me. So Philip Anthony Mitchell was like, he was talking about how a lot of people are focused on performative prayer. They talk, they're like how it sounds, they how it looks, seeking outside validation for people to be like, oh, that girl can pray, seeking the applause of others rather than focus being focused on God. He was like, but those aren't the prayers that reach God, because God honors your heart posture, not perfection, not the performance, but your heart. And immediately after that, another video came on called um a call to fast. And in that moment, I said, Okay, God, I hear you. Because let me tell you something. When God wants you to get a message, when God wants you to get a breakthrough, he does it by any means necessary. So a call to fast came on and it touched so many different things. Y'all, it was so juicy. If you have not heard it, go check it out. Okay, check it out. So God led me to fast for three days. When I prayed and asked about it, it was like a three-day thing, but I added on an additional day because I just was like, you know, I felt like one of the days was kind of so up and down and um inconsistent that I was just like, Lord, do you and I said, you know what? I'm gonna do it an extra day. That was my own, like, oh, this is what I feel like I need to do. So then I said, you know what? You're you're fasting and you're praying, and yet you're still trying to lean on your own understanding or your own whatever to decide what this next thing should be, right? Should you fast another day? Who told you you needed to fast another day? Me. So I prayed and I was like, Lord, you know, this week was kind of crazy. These one of the days of the fast was kind of crazy. Do I need to do another day? And immediately the answer was no. It wasn't necessary. But there was like this other part of like, if you want, right? It wasn't necessary, but if I wanted to. And I wish I could explain how I receive messages from God or Holy Spirit, because there are some people who are like, how, how do you hear? Like, what do you hear when you listen? Is it an audible voice? Is it like something someone says? Is it TV? Right. And for me, I close my eyes and I'll see words, or I will get an a sense, an audible sense of what I'm supposed to do next. But all of what I'm gonna tell you about day four is like God speaking in a way that's not through me just hearing or closing my eyes. It's gonna be through something else. So keep listening, right? Keep listening. But um, so I decided, okay, Holy Spirit said, if I want to, so I'm gonna go ahead and do it. So I do day four. Day four, I read Proverbs 17. Again, all of these scriptures are what I ask God to show me every day. Like, show me a scripture for today. It wasn't like on day one of the fast, I got all of these different scriptures, and I was like, oh, cool. I know what I'm gonna read on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. I didn't. On Monday, I was like, Lord, what should I read? It was Deuteronomy. On Tuesday, what should I read? On Wednesday. Now we're on day four, and it's Proverbs 17. So the scriptures that stood out were about quarreling being a sin and how it's better to like slow, be slow to speak, be even-tempered, and even keep silent, which speaks directly to the community that I serve as co-parents who like to argue. Y'all know what I'm talking about. So the Bible said, if you love quarreling, then you love sin. So I'm gonna just I'm gonna leave that there. I'm gonna let that sink. I want y'all to let that sink in. And as I was listening to worship songs, specifically in the middle by Isaac Carey, I think is his last name. So as the words of the song were playing, and I sang with my voice trembling because I was about to cry, it said, Don't worry about what you're going through. Instead of worrying, here's what you can do. Praise him anyway, in the middle of it. Listen, y'all, as I'm listening to the song, I'm checking my bank account and our paychecks were deposited. Praise the Lord. Right in the middle, God showed up. But y'all, guess what? It did not stop there. That's then the song Go Get Your Blessing by Mary Mary came on, and I received a message from HR at my job asking if I had time to talk. So I'm like, oh yeah, sure, I have time. Uh, you can call me right now if you need to. And part of the song rings out is your time, right? If you know that song, you know how Tina's voice rings out so loudly at that part. And I can't sing, so I'm sorry if I messed up y'all's ears, but I just needed to reiterate how powerful that part is. And guess what? The HR call was the call. I got the call. The promotion I applied for was offered to me right then in that moment. Right as that song was happening. Talk about praise dancing and shouting in my living room. Yep, that was me. And it wasn't just the call. Right after that call, one more song started playing. Won't he do it by uh Corinne Hawthorne? And I just sat there like, God, this is the words bellowed. You gonna look back and be so amazed how it turned out, it's only his grace. Won't he do it? He said he would, so I trust him at all times. And the other part, so ain't no need for stressing or crying, because he's gonna show up just like he did the last time, and the last time, and the last time. I know, I know, I know. Won't he do it? This y'all think all of that, the timing, the songs, exactly how it all played out was a coincidence. No, ma'am. No, ma'am, that was God. I truly believe that was confirmation that when you seek God, not halfway, not when it's convenient, but when you intentionally seek Him, He responds. And listen, I'm not saying this like I have it all together, because I don't. I'm saying this as someone who just experienced it in real time. So if you've been feeling stuck, if you've been feeling confused or uncertain about your next move, this is your reminder. Go to God first. Not social media, not your friends, not overthinking. Go to God first. I gotta pause. Hold on, y'all, because I'm getting all choked up. So here are three quick takeaways. You don't have to be perfect to pray, you gotta just be honest, just be open. Fasting's not a punishment, it's preparation. And God will meet you when you're intentional about seeking him. And y'all know I have a reflection question because I always do. So ask yourself when was the last time I truly sought God for direction? Instead of trying to figure it out on my own. If this spoke to you, I want you to sit with it. Like just sit, sit in God's presence and allow him to move through you. God is not ignoring you. He's not. You know what he is doing? He's waiting for you to come to him. If this episode spoke to you, if you've been feeling stuck or confused or unsure about your next step, whether it's in your co-parenting journey, your motherhood journey, life lifing, or even your purpose, I want you to, I want to invite you to take the next step. I offer clarity calls where we sit down one-on-one and get clear on what's been weighing on you, what direction you need, and what your next move should be. This is a space for you to be real, to be heard, and to walk away with clarity and peace. So if that's something that you need right now, go ahead and book a clarity call.
