The Business of AI
Why AI Needs More Than an Autopilot with Ed Chinn, Kintara [089]
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
AI should work like autopilot: powerful enough to accelerate progress, but never trusted so blindly that people lose the ability to take control. The biggest risk is not the technology itself. It is cognitive offloading, weak governance and leaders pursuing efficiency without a clear view of the value they may destroy. Successful AI adoption requires strong human judgement, reliable data and a strategy that connects every department rather than trapping experimentation inside IT.
Ed, a former commercial pilot and founder of Kintara, explains how aviation principles can make AI implementation safer and more effective. Leaders need clear checklists, defined accountability and the confidence to act when systems fail. Purpose-led organisations may have an advantage because their mission provides a North Star for deciding where AI should and should not be used. Responsible AI is therefore not simply a compliance exercise. Done well, it strengthens trust, innovation, sustainability and long-term competitive advantage.
