More Than Dance

How To Be Mentally Prepared for Anything: The Dress Rehearsal | Ep 36

Krissy Phillipino Episode 36

In this episode we review the idea that If you are properly rehearsed you are prepared. One of the most valuable skills a dancer has is the fact that we can rehearse and rehearse and prepare. When you take that same idea into your life, you realize you can run a mental rehearsal before big decisions, big changes, or even starting a new activity like dance class.

When you’re adding something new into your life... like getting a puppy... you can put it through a mental tech week. You imagine what it looks like to live with the puppy, how he shifts your routine, and how you’d manage it. That’s what rehearsal gives you: practice, preparation, and control.

  • When you prepare, you’re showing that you care.
  • Rehearsing helps you anticipate what might go wrong and how you’ll handle it.
  • You can practice what the nerves, anxiety, and excitement feel like before you’re in it.
  • It teaches you to respond instead of react, to ground faster, and to recover quicker.

Rehearsing builds readiness and when you’ve rehearsed the unexpected feels better.
