early 1970’s as a third grader sitting in the back of a police car, watching my father, who had paranoid schizophrenia, being handcuffed, my dad telling us the cops weren’t who they were claiming to be, provided the front row seat into what a chemical imbalance looks like. To their credit, the officers took him into custody, and checked in to a mental health facility.. no we talked about it back then, there was a stigma of shame associated with anybody that spent time in a mental health facility. To put it in context, my father was a loving man, a boxer, who to put it simply suffered from a chemical imbalance. As you mentioned, he turned to drugs to escape this condition, unfortunately, this led to him taking his own life. Thank you for bringing this topic to the forefront. Semper Fi..
