Steven M Weinstock:

Welcome to a special series within the Wealth Clock with Steven Weinstein. If you're someone who wants to better understand how wealth is built through real operations and smart decisions, this series is for you. Welcome back to the Wealth Clock. I'm your host, Steven Weinstein. Today we're diving into a business that sells gas. Fudge Barbecue and Bieber branded pajamas. Yes. All in the same place. We're talking about Bucky's. It's not just a gas station. It's a full on roadside phenomenon, and now it's trying to take over the Northeast New Jersey. Brace yourself. Picture this, you're somewhere in Texas. You're low on gas, and then you see the signs. Only 67 miles to bucking, cleanest restrooms in America. Beaver nuggets. Ahead. Yes. That's a real thing. Beaver nuggets. If you're not intrigued, check your pulse. You pull in. It's not a gas station, it's a retail theme park. There are 100 gas pumps a store the size of Costco, a jerky wall, a fudge counter, a brisket pit, and shelves full of home decor. Your mom would 100% buy. So how did this Texas Roadside Fever Dream become an empire? Bucky's started back in 1982, founded by Arch Beaver, apple, and. And Don Wassick. Yes. Beaver is his real nickname. And yes, that's why there's a cartoon rodents on every billboard. Their vision build a gas station. So clean, your grandma could eat brisket off the bathroom floor, and they nailed it. This wasn't about gas. This was about making you want to stop and spend and spend again. They went big, like Texas, big, massive stores, dozens of staff. All company owned, no franchises, no cutting quarters, because apparently the key to roadside domination is obsessive control and jerking. Here's the kicker, they don't make real money on gas. Gas is just a ba you pull in for fuel and walk out with a hoodie, a bag of pecans, and enough sugar to restart your nervous system. The real goldmine, fudge jerky, barbecue sandwiches, t-shirts, and branded plushies. Everything inside has crazy margins. This is a retail empire with a gas station out front. They own the land, they run the ops. They pay above average wages. They're not answering to Wall Street. They're answering to your bladder, your appetite, and your curiosity. And don't expect to see truckers here. Bucky's Bands 18 wheelers. Because apparently they want road trippy families, not dudes named Randy falling frozen chickens and the bathrooms, they're not just clean, they're awards winning. In 2012, Bucky's won America's best restroom. Yes, that's a real award from Sintas. At Bucky's, you could basically perform surgery in the stool. They amount more often than a Manhattan doorman staff is everywhere smiling, sweating, and stopping. 47 types of trail mix. It's like walking into a NASCAR pit through cross with a Cracker Barrel. For years, bucking stayed in Texas and the South, but now they're expanding Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Alabama, Tennessee, and yes, New Jersey. According to CBS News, Bucky's picked up Upper Pitts Grove, New Jersey for its first Northeast location because when you think giant brisket scented retail barns, you think Salem County, New Jersey. Now, if you know anything about Jersey, you know you're not allowed to pump your own gas. So picture this, someone from Bucky's shows up and says, we've got 120 pups, but no one will touch them but you. This is going to be fun, but honestly, it could work. Bucky's has cracked the code, food, fuel, and bathroom confidence, and that combo travels well. So what we actually learned from Buttons one own the real estate two, control the whole experience. Three, pick one thing nobody else cares about and then go all itb. In their case, it's bathrooms and it worked. And maybe the biggest thing, don't try to out cheat your competition, but instead out wow them, outscale them. Out, clean them Sometimes the way to dominate isn't by going lead, it's by going big, really, really big. So the next time you're on the road and see a cartoon beaver telling you to pull over, it's not a prank, it's a retail strategy. This has been the Wealth Clock of Steven Winestock.
