Welcome to the The Positive Growth Doctor Podcast®! I am your host, Dr. Christina Wilson.

Can you believe that we are half way through 2025? It seems like we were just celebrating the New Year.

I love the idea of starting fresh every year. So, I was thinking.. Why don’t we make it a habit to do so half way through the year too? That’s 6 whole months!

It is often a stressful time with kids going back to school and other transitions are occurring. It is the perfect time for a reset, right!

In this episode, we explore how stress fuels self-doubt and strengthens the cycle of perfectionism and comparison. We dive into ways to recognize the signs of stress and strategies to reset and reclaim your confidence for the rest of 2025 and beyond. It’s about developing new habits.

Understanding Stress and Self-Doubt in Women

Stress is a part of life that no one is immune to. Women are more likely to report high stress and the emotional experiences associated with it than men.

On the other hand, men report more physiological symptoms of stress. They also tend to use different strategies dealing with stressful events and neurologically respond differently to stress.

High stress events can lead to increased feelings of inadequacy, negative thought loops, and self-criticism.

When we are stressed out, everything else is amplified. Women are expected to have it all together, especially in their various roles as wives, mothers, and employees.

I always say that no one is harder on me than me. I suspect that is the same for you too.

At the root of much of this is fear. Fear fuels the fire for so many things. With this comes anxiety and eventually avoidance when we don’t meet our own high standards.

Eventually, this rolls over into burnout. It all comes to a head, which impacts our ability to cope.

So, just how stressed are you? You think you might know, but you might be surprised at the answer.

I say you might know, because your awareness level can be off a bit.

But I’ve got you covered. I posted a stress quiz on my social media channels. So, check that out. It is only 10 quick questions.

Strategies to Reset and Reclaim Your Confidence as a Women

I incorporate somatic coaching into my program because of the heaviness of perfectionism and self-doubt and because of stress's impact on our body and mind.

There are many different strategies to support women, but they are not one size fits all. We all have different preferences, so I explore different options.

Let’s start out with some general lifestyle changes that can be made to support you.

  1. Getting enough sleep- It is recommended to get 7-9 hours a night.
  2. Lessen your sugar, alcohol, and caffeine intake, especially if you have autoimmune issues.
  3. Get moving- even if it is just a little bit here and there. It matters.
  4. Engaging in tasks or hobbies that are soothing to you, such as gardening, walking, crafts, etc.
  5. Be intentional with your day- This sounds cheesy but it makes such a difference. I have a morning routine that includes a morning devotional with my son before he goes to school.

I listen to a daily spark that prompts growth and reminds me why I do what I do. It motivates me. I also listen to my daily hope from my pastor for the same reasons.

I make sure I have my healthy drink and I do a quick journal task that walks me through setting intentions based on what is important to me.

I have multiple things on my schedule, but I choose 3 things I need to work toward completing. I prime myself with breathing techniques to support and regulate my nervous system. I do this throughout the day when I break and stretch out too.

Here are some strategies to help reduce anxiety associated with high stress and burnout.

  1. Breathing techniques- help bring you back to homeostasis when you are experiencing fight or flight but also for when you are escalating. Take a deep breath in for 5, hold for 2, and out for 6. Repeat as many times as you need to.
  2. Proximity- I talked about this last week. Who you surround yourself with matters. I am not talking about the people who tell you you can’t or question who you are as a person and increase your self-doubt. I am talking about the people who walk beside you and support you along the way. They listen and encourage you, not discourage you.
  3. Beliefs- Your beliefs about yourself and the world are powerful and can help create a positive shift during times of high stress. We all have different beliefs. I recognize that God created me with a purpose. He never promised a perfect life, but he promised to be with me along the way. This is also connected to proximity. There is tons of research on the benefits of religion and well-being. You might not be affiliated with religion and that’s okay too. You have beliefs that are meaningful to you and can guide you in a positive direction.
  4. Let go of perfectionism. Consider the bar you have set for yourself. Your expectations! Is it so high that it cannot realistically be met?
  5. Use reframing when negative thoughts try to take hold. You can even stay, “Stop! I refuse to accept that thinking.” Then state your truth and replace it with positive thinking. Flip the script! You have control!

I have created a Facebook group called The Women’s Empowerment Group.

For women to come together to learn and increase a healthy well-being and support one another along the way.

So, join this next level community of women today!

I hope this has helped.

Let's meet up again next week for another episode.
