The Calm Lab Podcast
Nervous system education for bodies that won't settle
Welcome to The Calm Lab — a podcast about nervous system regulation, trauma-informed healing, and what it actually takes to feel safe in your body.
Hosted by Kassandra, a trauma-informed yoga teacher and nervous system educator.
If you've ever felt like your body won't cooperate — like you know you should relax but you can't — this podcast is for you.
Each episode, we explore:
- Polyvagal theory and how your nervous system works
- Why trauma lives in the body (and how to release it)
- Vagal toning, breathwork, and somatic practices that actually work
- Conversations with therapists, somatic practitioners, and researchers
This isn't surface-level wellness advice. We go deep into the science and the practice of nervous system regulation.
Whether you're healing from trauma, managing chronic stress, or simply trying to sleep better, you're welcome here.
New episodes Bi-weekly Mondays.

Feeling calm? Have a question? Send me a text:)
If tonight you're running on empty, this episode meets you exactly where you are. This 18-minute practice pairs gentle bed yoga with binaural beats to help calm an exhausted, overstimulated nervous system and guide your body toward deep, restorative sleep.
Binaural beats work by playing two slightly different frequencies in each ear — your brain perceives this as one pulsing tone, gently nudging your brainwaves toward the slower states associated with deep rest. Headphones recommended for the full effect.
This is a practice-along episode, not just to listen to — find a bed or comfortable reclined spot and let your body do the moving.

Hi friend, this is the Calm Lab podcast. I'm kassandra. Tonight's episode is Yoga in Bed: Gentle Movement for When You Have Nothing Left. Find your bed. Keep the lamps soft. I'll walk you through it. This is audio only. You don't need to see anything. Just feel your body and follow along. Let's land This practice is for nights when there's nothing left in the tank We're going to let the pillows and the blanket do the work while your nervous system gets the signal that it's finally safe to stop If you have headphones nearby, this works beautifully with them and if not, this is just as calming without them You don't have to try, you just have to lie back. Let's begin. We're going to use a blanket for this practice, as well as two pillows, so you might want to have those ready for you nearby. We're going to roll up the blanket, so if you have a bolster that looks like this, that works as well. So let's come to lying down on our back. We're going to use the first pillow under our knees So come onto the back And then this pillow is just right up under your glutes, under your knees, and we're just going to let the legs dri- drape over the pillow This is very much similar to restorative yoga. Go ahead and place the hands wherever is comfortable, maybe the belly and the heart Get comfortable and then let your body sink very slowly and deeply into the bed Reaching through the crown of your head, tucking your chin and then letting those muscles relax We're going to rest in each position for two to three minutes If at any point you notice yourself straining see if you can breathe deeply into those muscles where you feel the holding and then release them down into the bed We're gently going to transition into reclined butterfly pose. So if you can take one pillow under each knee, we're going to bring the soles of the feet together and the knees and the legs rest on top of the pillow So soles of the feet touch and then the pillows are on the outsides of the calves and the thighs opening our hips hands can rest on heart or palms can be facing up toward the ceiling Adjust anything you need to and then sink deeply into rest And from here we'll transition into supported fish pose. Take your rolled up blanket, roll over onto the right side. The blanket is going to come on the bed right where your spine is, and then you can roll right back on top of the blanket. Get your spine in alignment here. The knees can stay wide open on the pillows. If you want to, you can take your arms open wide. You can also bring the palms of the hands behind the head like you're looking up at the stars. Adjust your position You can also bring the soles of the feet to the bed and rest the knees against one another. Drop into the long, slow, deep breathing From here, we're going to transition. Bring the pillow, bring one of the pillows between your legs. So I'm going to drop over onto my left side, drop my knees over to the left, and we are side lying here. And then open the right shoulder up to the right. So knees are stacked facing the left. You can use your left hand on top of the outside of the right thigh Open up your right shoulder. Maybe it touches the bed, looking over the right shoulder, past the right fingertips You can even straighten out the right leg a little bit more to hold you there Then just rest. If this doesn't feel good on your shoulder, the right hand can rest on the ribs. The left hand can also rest on the tummy Sink deeply Switching sides, just coming through center, holding that pillow snuggled between the legs, moving that other pillow out of your way if you need to, and then dropping the knees over to the right. You are on your right side. Go ahead and open the left arm up. Left shoulder is on the bed behind you, looking over the left shoulder, the left fingertips. You can lengthen that left leg, maybe rest the hands on the ribs And for our final resting posture, we're going to transition into legs up the wall or headboard. Have a blanket nearby so you can cover yourself up. Move your pillows out of your way. Scoot yourself to your headboard Legs go up Use that blanket to cover yourself See if you can sink even more deeply into the bed Either choosing to stay here longer or moving to snuggle under your covers completely. Have a beautiful rest. Good night Thank you for being here today. If this episode landed, share it with someone who needs it.
