The Women Are Plotting
Are We All a Little Psychic?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What if that gut feeling, strange coincidence, vivid dream, or piece of information that seemingly came out of nowhere wasn't just your imagination?
In this deeply personal—and occasionally very weird—episode of The Women Are Plotting, Gen X friends Etienne Rose Olivier, Heidi Willis, and Jane Gari explore psychics, mediums, intuition, synchronicities, and their own experiences with things they simply can't explain.
The conversation begins with just how common belief in psychic phenomena actually is before turning to Heidi's interest in psychic mediumship and Laura Lynne Jackson's The Light Between Us. But things quickly get personal when Jane shares what happened the night she met a complete stranger named Greg in 1996—and somehow knew it was his 21st birthday, that he played guitar, and that he had stopped writing poetry. Thirty years later, they're still best friends, and Greg ultimately became the person who introduced Jane to her husband.
From there, the stories get even stranger. Etienne recalls psychic and past-life readings from her years in Los Angeles, while Jane talks about relatives who've been told she's a medium, visits from deceased loved ones in dreams, and a great-grandmother who she says used to sit on her bed and sing to her as a child.
Then comes one of the episode's most remarkable stories: Jane recalls seeing an unfamiliar woman washing dishes in her boyfriend's mother's kitchen. After Jane described the woman's clothing and earrings, she learned she'd apparently described the family's deceased grandmother—including the outfit she regularly wore to church. What happened afterward, involving a psychic, a message from the woman's mother, and a single rose delivered by an unsuspecting neighbor, left everyone wondering how much can really be dismissed as coincidence.

[00:00:00] Jane: And so I went and I sat right in front of him and I was like, "Hi, man. Happy birthday. This is a big one." It was his 21st birthday. And he was like, " Uh, who told you?" 'Cause he hadn't told anybody that it was his birthday there. It wasn't his birthday party. It wasn't about him. And he goes, "How did you know that?"
[00:00:15] Jane: And I'm like, "I don't know." And then I started laughing. And I was like, "So did you bring your guitar with you?" And he was like, "No." And I was like, "Oh, okay. How come you stopped writing poetry? You were really good." This is all just coming from I don't fucking know where, okay?
[00:00:32] Jane: And, his eyes got really big and he was getting a little freaked out. And I was like, "I'm sorry. Am I freaking you out?" And he was like, "A little. But- I don't know why I stopped writing that 'cause I really enjoyed it." And I was like, "I know, you were so good."
[00:00:44] Jane: And I was like, "I would love to read some sometime. I know it's good." And then we just started talking and never stopped. That was in 1996.
[00:00:54] Etienne: Welcome listeners. This is Women Are Plotting. I'm Etienne Rose Olivier, and I'm here with my friends and co-hosts, Heidi Willis and Jane Gari.
[00:01:09] Etienne: On today's episode, we're gonna be talking about psychics. And my fun fact for today, I found out that one in five US adults have consulted a psychic or a medium, and many have had an otherworldly experience of their own.
[00:01:24] Etienne: For example, one-third of the respondents, 34%, believe that they've had some sort of psychic episode, such as correctly predicting the future. Psychic occurrences are, however, more common among women, 40%, than men at 29%. And there was a whole thing about women being more likely to have an experience with ghosts, 46% of women have said they've had an experience with ghosts, and 30% of men. I know that's not technically what we're talking about today, but I thought that was kind of interesting. But Jane, I think you're gonna go second with your fun or interesting fact
[00:01:56] Jane: Yes. And actually, when you said, when you broadened it a little bit, beyond psychics, the first and most recent stat that I had found was a Gallup poll that was done last year in 2025, and that said 48% of US adults believe in psychic or spiritual healing. So it's a little broader than just psychics per se.
[00:02:15] Jane: But then there was also not as recent, but pretty recent Pew Research Center study that said 40% of US adults believe in psychics.
[00:02:24] Etienne: Oh, wow
[00:02:24] Jane: And I actually found that pretty high. I thought that that was I don't know, just an unusually high number. But then what you said though, was that one in five actually then consulted a psychic, so now that's taking it one step further.
[00:02:39] Jane: That's like, okay, I believe in it, and then I'm willing to pay good money to make an appointment, and then go and consult. So I guess then that's not as out there, so I don't feel as nutty, so thank you. So Heidi, what did you find?
[00:02:53] Heidi: So, I found a bunch of things, like physical things that will happen with psychics and psychic mediums. And I remember reading about this when I read, "The Light Between Us: Stories from Heaven, Lessons for the Living" by Laura Lynn Jackson. It's a memoir that I've recommended to Jane and Etty.
[00:03:11] Heidi: And, basically when they scan the brains of the psychic mediums, there's decreased brain activity in the frontal lobe because they are dropping in and getting the information from somewhere else. So I guess the frontal lobe regulates focus, decision-making, and self-consciousness, so it actually drops, and they describe the process as a passive reception of consciousness rather than the deep analytical thinking.
[00:03:34] Heidi: And then also energy drain. Speaking to the other side can drain your energy, and I've experienced this a few times. It's just like when the spirits use batteries. You see a lot of times batteries will drain. Happened in Jane's guest bedroom when her grandfather would come through.
[00:03:52] Heidi: Like my cellphone would just completely drain when he would come through. And, they talk about spirits communicating in symbols, and then there's also different senses. So there's the different clairs too. So clairaudience, clairvoyance, which is seeing images. Clairaudience is hearing voices. Clairsentience is sensing or having the emotions. So yeah, there's all these different senses, and I have the one with the smelling. I can't remember what the name of that one is right
[00:04:21] Jane: Oh, wow.
[00:04:22] Heidi: oh, clair-clairalience? It's clair-smelling.
[00:04:26] Jane: that makes sense. 'Cause olfactory is related to sense of smell.
[00:04:30] Heidi: Yeah. Yeah. So, it's such an interesting subject and know we have lots of stories
[00:04:36] Etienne: I did listen to that book, the audiobook. Yes. And that part when they talked about her getting the MRI readings when they were actually having an experience, that was the coolest part I thought. Like, to actually have some kind of scientific evidence that she is not using her brain to relay this information that she's getting. You know? She's just relaying it. I thought that was cool
[00:04:59] Jane: So there's a baseline of, okay, this is what that activity in her prefrontal cortex looks like under ordinary processing of information, just like walking through your life. And then when she's having those experiences, then all of that goes down.
[00:05:11] Etienne: That's yeah, that's what I understood, yeah
[00:05:13] Heidi: Yeah, and also it was shown in the other psychic mediums who had passed all the tests and were shown to be, like, authentic. It was seen in other mediums as well that their brain activity is very similar
[00:05:27] Etienne: That's so cool
[00:05:28] Heidi: Yeah. So science is catching up.
[00:05:30] Etienne: I thought her book was really cool because she gave details. When you hear some psychics talking, you're like, "This is so vague." Like, this could be anybody. You're just talking about... But hers were so specific. Like, you would never just pull that out of your ass. This is definitely, you had to be finding out this information from this person who's no longer with us. I'm sorry. It was insane. Yeah. I loved listening to her stories. I listened to that book almost nonstop once I started listening to it, every time I went to walk the dogs back in my ears. Walking the dogs, like barely paying attention to what they're doing.
[00:06:04] Heidi: And she's so down to earth. That's why I was really wanting you guys to read the book, 'cause it reminded me so much of Jane and her life and also just the way she just is so sweet and just kind and
[00:06:17] Etienne: Yeah.
[00:06:17] Heidi: it you know? Like, yeah.
[00:06:20] Jane: All right, you're selling me on it. I know sometimes... I'm in the middle, I was reading a couple of books at the same time and so, it's in my queue. It's in my queue. But
[00:06:29] Heidi: the fact that she had been a English high school teacher and had kept this part of her life a secret 'cause she was so afraid of it messing up her job at the high school. And then when her worlds do collide, like she's giving the principal all this info. It was so crazy.
[00:06:48] Etienne: My God
[00:06:49] Heidi: So the principal ended up being her greatest ally, I think, in the end. But yeah, it was so interesting, and just her studying in England just like you had, Jane, I just found it very fascinating. She would be a fascinating person to
[00:07:02] Etienne: Oh, yeah.
[00:07:03] Jane: Maybe we could make that happen. As someone who has had... So for people thinking like, "Why wouldn't Jane read this book?" Sometimes I have... Well, first of all, like I have a lot in my reading queue right now, but I also have hesitance, and that I've struggled with over the years, right? To embrace things that, when psychic things have happened to me or I have channeled something or whatever, like I'm not going out of my way. It's not like I'm, to try to do something. And so when it's happened to me, it can be a little overwhelming and a little freaky. And,
[00:07:33] Heidi: Like your grandfather?
[00:07:34] Jane: y- well, yeah, but that's like a specific, that's like a ghosty thing. But when
[00:07:38] Heidi: That's psychic mediumship. That's a psychic mediumship
[00:07:41] Jane: I know, but I didn't ask for that. But, but, but if, but other times in my life when things have happened where it's just kind of like information is being
[00:07:49] Heidi: Mm-hmm.
[00:07:50] Jane: somehow relayed to me, and also about the living, and it's just in a flash, then I embrace it and I think it's really cool. Okay. So one of my best friends in the world who introduced me to my husband, his name is Greg, and I met him at just a small house party at a friend's house. And I had never met him before. He was just kind of sitting in the corner. And everybody at this party was doing ecstasy, including me.
[00:08:12] Jane: So this is back in the '90s. And we weren't going to a rave that night, but it was at our friend who was a DJ and we were at his house, and he also composed EDM music, and I composed a few songs with him, and we were just kind of all hanging out and that was the vibe.
[00:08:25] Jane: And so when I would do ecstasy or sometimes even if I would just smoke marijuana or something like that, my inhibitions were down, right? So I wasn't receiving something that then that my hackles would be up and be like, "Ugh, this feels weird or creepy." I was actually wide open to it, including other things, like if I was on ecstasy and I saw some kind of weird spiritual thing happening, I would actually be smiling and embracing it and being like, "This is so cool." And as I should try to maybe like channel that attitude towards it and maybe be okay with it. So I don't know. But I saw this guy sitting by himself kind of just grooving to the music, and I just immediately knew so many things about him. And I don't know where this came from. I've never met him before.
[00:09:08] Jane: No one ever talked to me about him. And so I just went and I just sat right in front of him and I was just like, "Hi, man. Happy birthday." And, I was like, "This is a big one." You know, it was his 21st birthday. And he was just like, "Uh, who told you?" 'Cause he hadn't told anybody that it was his birthday there.
[00:09:23] Jane: He didn't wanna make... it wasn't his birthday party. It wasn't about him. There was one guy at the party with him that he was close to, but nobody else knew that it was his birthday. And I hadn't met the other guy either. It was the first time I had met his friend. And he goes, "How did you know that?"
[00:09:36] Jane: And I'm like, "I don't know." And then I just started laughing. And I was like, "So did you bring your guitar with you?" And he was just like, "No." And I was like, "Oh, okay." I was like, " how come you stopped writing poetry? You were really good." Like, this is all just coming from I don't, I don't fucking know where, okay?
[00:09:56] Jane: And, his eyes got really big and he was kinda getting a little freaked out. And then I stopped talking and I was like, "I'm sorry. Am I freaking you out?" And he was like, "A little." He's like, "But- I don't know why I stopped writing that 'cause I really enjoyed it." And I was like, "I know, you were so good."
[00:10:10] Jane: And I was like, "I would love to read some sometime. I know it's good." And then we just started talking and never stopped. That was in 1996. And, so we-- Yeah, because we just celebrated our 30th friend anniversary 'cause he turned 51 and I met him on his 21st birthday.
[00:10:27] Jane: And, he calls me, he was like, "Oh, you were one of my best birthday presents ever." And he introduced me to my husband, and we call him the conduit. Like, through him came our lives together, my husband and me and he's our child's godfather and he'll joke with her and say like, "It all started with me. You wouldn't even be born if it weren't for me." Like in a fun and joking way, like not in a weird, serious like who is this dude? No, no. They love each other very much, my daughter and her Uncle Greg is what she calls him. He's not just Greg, he's Uncle Greg.
[00:10:53] Jane: But, I have no idea where that came from. And the most infuriating th- thing to both of us about that night is I was about-- 'Cause he was talking about how he had been really depressed and he was starting to come out of it and finding through the rave scene, we had both found a sense of community and communion really.
[00:11:10] Jane: Like the rave scene was more than just the music and then the drugs does. It was something, it was like a movement. It was different. It was very Haight Ashbury I guess in a kind of way. We were just hashing these very emotionally intense things out, and I was like, "You know what? You know what you really should do?" And he was just like, "What?" And then all of a sudden I had to throw up. Like
[00:11:29] Etienne: Oh.
[00:11:31] Jane: I was like, I, I was like, "I'm so sorry. L- I'll, I'll be right back." I went, I threw up. So which sometimes happens if you're on ecstasy.
[00:11:38] Etienne: I always would get the pooping thing, not the vomiting
[00:11:41] Jane: That was thankfully not my thing. Like every once in a while I would throw up and then I'd be absolutely fine.
[00:11:45] Jane: I came back, I sat in front of him and I was like, "What were we talking about?" And he goes, "Shut the fuck up. What do you mean what we-- You were about to tell me like what I needed to do for my life." And I had lost the thread. And, and I was like, "Whoops." You know? And, um, so every
[00:12:00] Heidi: That was the universe. That was the universe
[00:12:02] Etienne: Don't tell him.
[00:12:03] Heidi: supposed to say
[00:12:04] Jane: Probably. Probably. Because, he'll
[00:12:07] Heidi: You've said too
[00:12:08] Jane: sometimes if he's in a roadblock in his life, he's like, "If you had just told me what I was supposed to do back in 1996, none of this would've happened." And we just laugh about it because I'm like, "I don't think I was supposed to tell you." I was like, "I totally think that you were supposed to just find out for yourself."
[00:12:21] Jane: But yeah, that's just like one of many, many examples, but, uh, and I have no idea where that came from. None.
[00:12:27] Etienne: So you have no idea where it came from, but the thoughts were popping into your head, right? They were just popping in there?
[00:12:34] Jane: just pop it. Like
[00:12:35] Heidi: like that come to me about
[00:12:37] Etienne: I have not
[00:12:37] Heidi: Just I know exactly who thinks what and about who. I'll know, like,
[00:12:43] Jane: And you just know, right? Like wh- it's like when you're in a dream and you just know like, oh, it's Christmas in my dream and I forgot to get presents for people and now I have to... Like you just know that in your dream. It's like that kind of just for some reason just knowledge that you just have. You just have it. I don't know where it comes from
[00:13:02] Etienne: Wow, that's so cool
[00:13:04] Heidi: You tap into the field,
[00:13:06] Etienne: the field. Yeah.
[00:13:07] Heidi: field. I don't
[00:13:07] Etienne: I used to be able to really tap into when my mother would call me. I would know right before she was gonna call me. I could pretty much just walk over to the phone, just be ready to answer it. Yeah. She would send out those signals. That was wild. Yeah. But, I have gone to a few psychics. I went to one... A few mostly in my 20s, I think, is the majority of them, 'cause I lived in Los Angeles. You can find them everywhere, and there's a psychic shop in the Valley that's very famous, and I can't think of the name of it, but it's very big and very famous. It's on Ventura Boulevard, I believe.
[00:13:38] Jane: Do they have like the neon sign or are
[00:13:40] Etienne: No, they're classy. It's like, it's very well done. So it's a big shop, so you can buy like tarot cards, whatever, incense. It's a huge, huge shop. And then in the back or on the sides, there's little curtained off areas where you can meet with people just doing tarot readings or whatever.
[00:13:55] Etienne: I did a tarot there once. I went there with my mother, and this was right when I had gotten... I'd had my Polaroid taken to see if somebody wanted to have me in a nude magazine, 'cause I had met a friend who had done a nude layout in Penthouse, and she'd been in a bunch of different things.
[00:14:13] Etienne: And, she asked me one day if I wanted to go see her magazine that was coming out that day, and I'm like, "Uh, what magazine?" No idea. And so, yeah, I got to see my friend totally naked in this pictorial. I'm like, "Holy shit, look at you." And, she's like, "Well, if you want to, I could introduce you to my photographer and they could see if somebody wants to pay to have you in a magazine."
[00:14:31] Etienne: I'm like Okay, may- uh, yeah. Maybe. But I did, I made an appointment and I went and got my Polaroid taken. They were very respectful that they were just Polaroids. They're not like anything that could be reproduced or what have you. And while I was waiting to hear back if somebody actually wanted to have me in a magazine, I went to that psychic place with my mother.
[00:14:50] Etienne: We were just hanging out. She's like, "Let's go do a tarot reading." And so my mom had me go in there with her while the lady's doing her reading, and at one point the lady said to her, "Oh, don't worry, she's not gonna do the layout." She was to- totally wrong by the way, 'cause I did do it, and it was my mother that was pushing me to do it, so it was like crazy.
[00:15:11] Etienne: This woman obviously got her wires crossed. But yeah, she knew about it. Yeah, she knew about the layout and yeah, how would you know that? Like that's ... 'Cause I'm sure I don't dress like... I, at the time I totally didn't dress like somebody you would expect would do a nude layout in a magazine, you know?
[00:15:29] Etienne: So yeah. That was crazy. I saw another one who was like a past life psychic through a different friend, a year or two before that, and I remember when I went, I mean, went to her house, it was really cool. We both got readings. We had to wait there a long time and you could record it, so I had like a little cassette of it for a while.
[00:15:45] Etienne: And she told me all this different stuff about how my father and my mother and my brother have been in my lives forever, and that how one time my father was actually some kind of slave driver and I'm like, "That makes sense. That tracks." And I swear the visual that I have, I don't remember exactly what she said about everything, but the visual that I got was that I think he might have buried me alive with like other slaves. Yeah.
[00:16:14] Jane: Oh my God.
[00:16:16] Etienne: I do, I do. Or I was just killed and then thrown in a pit with like other slaves. When she was talking about it the vision I got was I'm laying in the bottom of a open grave, and I'm just seeing him over it, you know? Totally fine and I'm dead or almost dead. I don't know why I got... I'm like, "Great." I'm like, " can I just change something in this lifetime so that I don't have these people in my life for the rest of whatever the lives that are coming? Can we just stop this here?" It's like, i'm done." I'm done." Like I...
[00:16:45] Heidi: You break the patterns in this lifetime. That's what happens.
[00:16:48] Etienne: Angus, no.
[00:16:49] Heidi: Yeah, 'cause
[00:16:50] Etienne: I knew you guys didn't want me to mute that.
[00:16:51] Heidi: there's peop-
[00:16:53] Jane: Yeah.
[00:16:54] Heidi: Yeah, there's people that come into your life that you're supposed to learn lessons from. And then sometimes you have to go through many,
[00:17:01] Etienne: I need to be a slave that's murdered by... Come on. What what did I do wrong?
[00:17:08] Jane: that
[00:17:09] Heidi: no one needs that, but, you're learning, your soul
[00:17:12] Etienne: soul is obviously really broken. I don't know what's happening
[00:17:18] Jane: Well, this time around you definitely, you broke off contact with, "All right, you know what? This is toxic
[00:17:24] Etienne: Yeah. I did that at 20... Yeah, 29. So yeah, I did it. Yeah
[00:17:28] Heidi: Oh, you're... Yeah, you're breaking
[00:17:30] Etienne: Okay, I hope that means they're broken. I want them to be permanently broken for the future lives. That's what I'm worried about. I'm like, "I'm fine now." I mean, now is great, like,
[00:17:41] Jane: You just don't wanna have to do this again of like, okay,
[00:17:44] Etienne: No, just new people. Just give me new people. I don't, yeah. I don't... How about can I have a life where I have real parents that are loving and awesome? Just once. I just have a feeling that hasn't happened yet.
[00:18:02] Jane: Oh, we could come back
[00:18:03] Etienne: Jane, can you be my mom? Yes,
[00:18:05] Jane: your moms.
[00:18:07] Heidi: Yes. Yeah. Let's all be a family.
[00:18:11] Jane: So I have had other people in my family go see a psychic who then gave them a message to tell me but I've never been to a psychic myself. So my cousin has been to several, and they were just like, "Hey," who said me and a couple of my cousins, we're in a soul group that's traveled a few lifetimes together. We see each other and all of us have had very strange and powerful experiences in this lifetime. But they're like, "Yeah, tell your cousin to stop being scared. She's gonna..." And actually, Heidi, one of the psychics told my cousin, "Tell her she's a medium and it's okay." And I'm like, "I don't want to hear this."
[00:18:48] Heidi: You are a medium.
[00:18:48] Jane: Um, but
[00:18:49] Heidi: I mean, remember what your grandfather said? So it was so funny. He was always coming to me, and I was petrified every single time. And he was very insistent, right? 'Cause I was telling you, like, "Your grandfather's, father's here," and you're like, "I know. Ugh." and, and so he finally was like, "If Phoebe did this to Jane, how would she feel? Blah, blah, blah. I'm still me. Blah, blah, blah." You know, he's just going on and on and on about, what if Jane was the dead one and Phoebe was too scared to talk to her. Like, "I'm still me." And I was like, "Okay, you got a good point." So, telling Jane that, and you were like, "Okay."
[00:19:26] Jane: So what I did there is then I just made an agreement. I talked to him out loud and I was like: Listen, just the thought of actually seeing you, and I actually was very frank and I said, "When you come to me in my dreams," this is gonna sound so whatever, but the topic is the topic today. Okay. So in my dreams, I have some dreams that I know they're not dreams. I'm dreaming, I'm in a dream state of some kind. But, people who I love who have passed away are in my dream, and they don't really say anything. And when I realize that I'm having a lucid dream, I will look around and realize nobody in the room is seeing them. It's just me. And then I'm like: Oh, wait a second, that's because they're dead and I'm dreaming.
[00:20:08] Jane: And then I will go up to them and say whatever I feel like I need to say in that moment, and then I hug them and I wake up. And it's the same. And it's been this pattern since I was young. Like the first time, I lost great-grandparents.
[00:20:20] Jane: And then when I was young, I lost a friend in high school and I would have a dream and she would be there. And, throughout my life that's always happened. My daughter, it's the same thing. And I never discuss this with her, but it happens to her too. And
[00:20:32] Heidi: Hmm
[00:20:32] Jane: it's very visceral. So, it doesn't scare me in my dream. I'm actually so happy to see them. Seriously, I'll wake up and I'm just sobbing because I'm just like, "Yay, I get to hug my grandpa." And so I have told him, I'm like, "When you do that, I love that and my psyche can handle that."
[00:20:49] Jane: I was like, "But if you were just standing in my living room, I think I would have a heart attack, so please don't do that." Every once in a while, I feel both of my grandparents now 'cause they're together. When I feel them, I'm actually overcome. Like right now, I've been feeling... This is weird that we're talking about this 'cause I've been feeling them a lot lately
[00:21:07] Heidi: ' Cause they know. They know when we're about to talk about them, 'cause I've been feeling my mom too.
[00:21:12] Jane: And I just spent the whole weekend with my sister
[00:21:15] Heidi: Mm-hmm.
[00:21:16] Jane: at a retreat together, and they were with us the whole time. And we were in the mountains that they taught us to love when we were kids and it was beautiful, and I wasn't scared at all. So,
[00:21:27] Etienne: No, no, please. Yeah.
[00:21:28] Heidi: No, no. I mean, that's what this is all about.
[00:21:32] Jane: Right. So, when I'm just feeling it, it's fine. And I just said out loud to them, I was just like, "It's cool that you're here, and I love you so much, and I'm so grateful." And I think that one of the reasons why I just feel them is like I just, I'm now the age that I have very strong memories of them being,
[00:21:51] Etienne: Mm-hmm.
[00:21:52] Jane: right? And I have been, the past several years, taking Phoebe, my daughter, to places that they took me to when I was younger that are places of great power and energy and like the Appalachian Mountains. And then also recently, my husband and I had decided that we are most likely going to, like our forever retirement home is going to be near where my grandparents retired and lived when I was little. And the first time I ever took Brendon, my husband, to their home, 'cause they were both still alive when we were dating and when we got married, and he loved them immediately, but he also, he loved where they lived.
[00:22:29] Jane: He was like, "This is so beautiful." He's like, "I love this." He's like, "I wanna live somewhere like this." And we still lived in New York, and we had no idea really how our lives were gonna end up being. And then now when we go to that area in the mountains, in upstate South Carolina and into North Carolina where I grew up with them taking me, it feels like home to me.
[00:22:48] Jane: And he said it feels like home to him. And that makes me so happy. But I feel like my grandparents, I do, I feel them with me a lot. And so it doesn't scare me. But again, if they were standing here, I'd be like, "Whoa." So when I was little, that would happen to me. When I was little, that would happen to me, and I didn't know
[00:23:05] Etienne: You could actually see their apparitions of them or
[00:23:10] Jane: When I was little, they were alive, but when I was little, had a great-grandmother who passed away, and then she would sometimes sit on my bed. This is gonna sound crazy, but she would sit on my bed and just sing to me, and it didn't scare me at all. And I used to ask my mom if I could wear her necklace before I'd go to sleep because it would make it happen, and I wanted her to be there.
[00:23:28] Jane: So it was comforting to me, right, when I was younger. And as I got older, I was like, "Oh wait, you don't have dead people sing you lullabies? That's not like a..." And then I w- I was like,
[00:23:37] Etienne: for that
[00:23:38] Jane: maybe this is..."
[00:23:38] Heidi: That's what's so sad. You, it's your, when you're a child, you kind of welcome it and it's no big deal. But yeah, as you grow, I don't know if it's media that instills the fear in us. 'Cause yeah, I was fearful of it for a very long time, and now I'm like, "Whatever." You know, when I went through that mediumship class and something grabbed me awake, and I was a little fearful 'cause, you know, it woke me up, and I could still feel the hand on my arm.
[00:24:04] Heidi: But, I was more annoyed 'cause I was kind of like, "Oh, uh, okay. Whatever." You're just a dead person that wants to relay a message. Okay. You know, come back when I'm awake. Don't wake
[00:24:16] Jane: Oh, if you don't know me, do not. I make that very clear. If I didn't know you while you were alive, you're gonna have to wait until I am
[00:24:24] Etienne: I'm also dead
[00:24:26] Jane: talk to me. I'm not down for... But also I gotta... Yeah, no, I'm not down for that. Not.
[00:24:32] Heidi: But they're just people. They just don't have bodies
[00:24:34] Jane: It
[00:24:35] Etienne: Remember the ghost I saw? And she did not look happy to see me. That fucking freaked me out. I was like, "What? No."
[00:24:45] Heidi: Well, okay, the ones that are like trapped here, yeah, they're not happy.
[00:24:49] Heidi: But the ones that just have sweet messages, that's why you gotta read the book, "The Light
[00:24:53] Jane: to read this book.
[00:24:54] Heidi: it's really sweet, right? Like, there's some really s- 'cause a lot of times she works with grieving parents, and it's the kids that are coming through, and it gives them closure and it's beautiful. It's so
[00:25:06] Jane: How old is she now?
[00:25:08] Heidi: She's like, I think our age, seriously. Yeah. Yeah, she's similar in age
[00:25:13] Jane: I was just wondering if she was like... My God, this would be crazy if she was the psychic that my ex-boyfriend's mother, didn't really believe in psychics until some things happened and then she was like, "All right, I guess I gotta go," you know? But, she liked the idea of it, and then when she started going she was like, "Oh, I really, you know, like this."
[00:25:29] Jane: But it's because she lost her parents and she lived in the same house where they passed away. And, there were several people who passed away at that house. I know this 'cause I then rented a room there and was like, "Oh, okay, you're here too." So it was, yeah, anyways, it's like, that's a, that's a whole other episode.
[00:25:44] Jane: But, it was a lot, and this was at the time of my life where I was still doing some drugs, and so, I would just be wide open and then be like, "Oh, mm. Oh, you died here too? Um, so, so sad." But she lost both of her parents and, she was devastated, and she missed her mom a lot, more than her father.
[00:26:03] Jane: And she just needed to heal from it, right? So she went to see a psychic just to see if her mom had a message for her. And I had seen her mom, in the house, and I didn't know what she looked like. They weren't the kind of family that had photographs and stuff around, so I didn't know what this woman looked like.
[00:26:18] Jane: And I just had come downstairs one day, and I wasn't living there yet, I was just dating her son and sleeping there sometimes. And so I came downstairs, and there was just a woman washing dishes, in the sink, that was not my boyfriend's mother, wearing, I could see her in my head, I could see her cardigan. I can see her jewelry that she was wearing. I could see her little loafers with this kinda low-grade heel and this gray skirt. And she just looked up at me, and smiled. And then that was it, just gone. And I was kind of like, "Did I see that in my mind's eye?"
[00:26:44] Jane: You know what I mean? Or did... But it, she looked like she was fucking standing right there washing dishes, and that was just... But then she... and then not there at all. And the room was, like, very smoky when I saw her, and then no smoke. Like, I was looking through haze, okay? And haze was, how I used to, I still sometimes, will see just a pillar of, it just looks like fog is inside.
[00:27:01] Jane: And, my daughter, that's happened to her many times too. So it comes in a similar way for both of us. And my husband has seen that too, in our house where it... it was my grandfather. But this was, you know, different kind of haze, different... Someone else's grandma. And I was like, "I do not know who that woman was. That was weird." And, later on in the morning when my ex's mother woke up, she looked at me, she goes, "You, you seemed kinda weird today. Are you okay?" 'Cause I'm, like, a very chatty person. I really quiet. And I was like, "I don't wanna freak you out," but I was like, "I saw someone in the kitchen this morning and-" Really kind of freaked me out, and I was like, "But I think maybe I was just," I don't know, "sleepy."
[00:27:38] Jane: I was trying to rationalize it, right? And, um, and she was like, "What did they look like?" You know? And I described everything right down to the earrings. And all the blood drained from her face, and she's like, "Come with me right now." And she comes... We go into her room, and she opens her jewelry box, and she was just like, "These?"
[00:27:52] Jane: And I'm like, "Oh, those are totally the earrings." She's like, "These are my mother's earrings." And she was just like, "She-- What you described is what she wore to church every Sunday." And, it was Sunday. And so, and then she showed me a picture, and I felt like I was gonna pass out. I was like, "That's totally the woman that I saw standing in your kitchen."
[00:28:06] Jane: Right. So then she was just like, " maybe she has something to say to me." And I was like, "I don't know." So then shortly after this happened, she went to go see a psychic. And the psychic was saying that, "Your mother loves you very much, and she wants you just to try to move on from the grief and just live your life and try to be, you know, happier.
[00:28:21] Jane: And then she also wants you to know that she's okay." 'Cause she was worried, like, you know, "Is this my mom?" You know? You could have faith, but you're like, "Are they okay?" You know? And she's like, "She's fine. She's with your father." And then she's like, "And, she's handing you a rose. And that means that she's okay." All right. So a couple days later, and this woman's name was Barbara, she passed away a couple years ago. So Barbara had a neighbor who lived down the street, and they weren't especially close, but they talked sometimes. And for just no reason at all, all right, this woman brought a single rose
[00:28:53] Heidi: Hmm.
[00:28:54] Jane: Over to her house and just was on her doorstep and she was just like, "Hi, Barbara."
[00:28:58] Jane: She's like, "This is gonna sound so weird. But, I was out shopping today and I just felt compelled. Absolutely compelled just to buy you a rose and just check in with you and give this to you. And I really don't know why." Like the woman seemed almost confused about why she was there.
[00:29:12] Jane: And she's handing Barbara this rose and Barbara was just like, " Oh my God," And I was just like, "Dude, that rose, your mom somehow told this woman to get you this rose for you." And it
[00:29:22] Heidi: exactly what happens.
[00:29:23] Jane: It's... So the woman was just like, "I don't know." I d- like the way that I did not know why Greg, the man I never met before was having a 21st birthday.
[00:29:31] Jane: Like this woman was at the grocery store and was like, "I'm supposed to get a rose for Barbara." And Barbara was told like, "I'm okay and here's a rose from me." And the psychic was like, " you just look for a rose and you'll know that your mom is okay. She's okay and she wants you to be happy."
[00:29:45] Jane: So it just brought her great peace, right? So I was wondering if the Long Island medium lady that you were talking about was like this woman, but the ages wouldn't have mas- matched up because this happened 32 years ago. So she would've, she was our age then.
[00:30:00] Heidi: Oh, okay. Yeah, yeah.
[00:30:01] Jane: this medium on Long
[00:30:03] Heidi: be in her 60s
[00:30:05] Jane: Okay. Yeah, not the same woman. So lots of cool mediums on Long island, I
[00:30:09] Etienne: What's her name again? You got it right there, don't you?
[00:30:12] Heidi: It is
[00:30:13] Jane: Again, I promise to read the book.
[00:30:16] Heidi: It is,
[00:30:17] Etienne: Lynne Jack...
[00:30:19] Etienne: okay,
[00:30:19] Heidi: Lynne Jackson.
[00:30:20] Etienne: Laura
[00:30:21] Heidi: Yeah
[00:30:22] Etienne: Jackson. Age,
[00:30:23] Heidi: Yeah, I'm pretty sure she's our age
[00:30:26] Jane: Wow.
[00:30:27] Heidi: That's what I'm saying. Like, it's,
[00:30:28] Jane: my age.
[00:30:29] Heidi: It's very spooky. I feel like you guys had to have crossed paths at some point, 'cause she talks about the same beach that you love. Like it's so eerie.
[00:30:40] Jane: What, like Jones Beach? Like... Oh, wow. Okay. Well, a lot of people go there. Did she surf, though? That would be really weird. Great. Laura Lynne Jackson. All right, I'm gonna
[00:30:49] Etienne: She's blonde. She's very beautiful. Very
[00:30:51] Jane: Very fun I like how you said that.
[00:30:53] Etienne: She's really gorgeous actually in this picture. Honestly, like movie star
[00:30:58] Jane: Yeah Okay. She does not look familiar to me That doesn't mean that, uh... This is gonna be like one of those things where if you could look at something from above, right? We probably walked by each other. You know what I mean? Like, um,
[00:31:09] Heidi: Mm-hmm.
[00:31:09] Jane: Cause I know that kind of thing can happen. So I don't know. Maybe we will meet one day
[00:31:14] Etienne: Yeah, maybe we will
[00:31:15] Jane: and it
[00:31:15] Heidi: I don't know. Yeah, when I was reading it, I was like, "Oh my gosh, Jane's gotta read this and then possibly meet her and be friends one day."
[00:31:23] Jane: Etienne
[00:31:23] Heidi: I don't, I don't know. I felt like, yeah. It's, well, it's kinda like when I felt that connection with the woman who wrote the foster care book, and I felt very strongly that you needed to read it and
[00:31:36] Jane: Oh my gosh, Ashley Rhodes-Courter? Yes. And then she was
[00:31:40] Heidi: the same feeling.
[00:31:42] Jane: she was a tremendous support to me during a really difficult time. She was an amazing person.
[00:31:47] Etienne: Did you actually meet her, Jane,
[00:31:48] Jane: And then, yeah.
[00:31:49] Etienne: Oh.
[00:31:50] Jane: No, we talked on the phone though at great length. And she blurbed my memoir
[00:31:54] Heidi: Mm-hmm. Yep. I feel the same kind of way with this woman. I feel very strongly you need to read the book and you need to reach out to her, and I don't know, there needs to be a connection of some sort.
[00:32:05] Jane: okay. And see, so this is like a
[00:32:07] Etienne: Ooh,
[00:32:07] Heidi: Yes.
[00:32:08] Etienne: maybe the next time, one of us has an orgasm, we can the O
[00:32:17] Heidi: The O method. Yeah, we were talking about manifestation hacks and you can manifest fast if you have your thoughts and your manifestation visualization at the same time as you're orgasming or having heated anger or sadness and crying. Like when the emotions are high, apparently
[00:32:38] Etienne: I've got her face too, I'm gonna be like, "Laura Lynne Jackson" for Jane or for the podcast so we can have her on here. It'd be so good
[00:32:49] Heidi: She would be a fantastic guest 'cause I like her voice too, right? Like her voice
[00:32:53] Etienne: It was very
[00:32:54] Heidi: soothing. Too.
[00:32:55] Jane: Oh, she narrated the
[00:32:56] Heidi: Yes. Yep.
[00:32:57] Etienne: Yeah. You could start listening to it while you're driving to your new job, Jane
[00:33:00] Jane: You guys are really selling
[00:33:02] Etienne: I know. It's on Spotify you have Spotify Premium.
[00:33:04] Jane: I do. All right And
[00:33:09] Etienne: you go
[00:33:12] Heidi: Yes. And, recommending to all the listeners, listen to the book. It's free on Spotify Premium
[00:33:18] Etienne: the way that she tells the stories, I think it literally does work really well as an audiobook, 'cause I technically don't really like audiobooks, but this one did it for me. Yeah. This one was
[00:33:28] Jane: Okay. 'Cause yeah, I don't
[00:33:29] Etienne: perfect. 'Cause I can't
[00:33:29] Jane: which is ironic because I
[00:33:31] Etienne: Yeah, I can't retain as much from the books versus if I read them, you know, the audiobooks versus reading it myself. But this one I could. Yeah,
[00:33:40] Heidi: if they're like this,
[00:33:41] Etienne: so Yeah,
[00:33:42] Heidi: just telling stories.
[00:33:43] Heidi: Yeah
[00:33:43] Etienne: was perfect. Kinda like a podcast, I guess, in a way, you know?
[00:33:46] Heidi: Yeah
[00:33:47] Etienne: goodness.
[00:33:48] Heidi: Her other two books are out there too, Signs. I've started listening to Signs, and she's got several more stories and talking about how the universe sends us signs
[00:33:57] Etienne: Oh no.
[00:33:58] Jane: Oh, boy. Are you serious? Okay. Well that I might end up starting
[00:34:03] Etienne: Believe we're sending you
[00:34:04] Jane: just, okay, so just, yes, because this past weekend, and that's one of the reasons why I was getting so emotional before, is that I went on this retreat, just for yoga and meditation with my sister.
[00:34:13] Jane: Felt my grandparents the whole time. And had all these guided meditations and there were different kind of weird symbolism that was coming up and it was for them. And I just felt like when I spent time with them, I felt completely myself if that makes any sense.
[00:34:28] Jane: Like it was a safe space and it was a space where I was completely inspired and encouraged to just be creative. They were both very creative, all the time, and super talented, in different ways than I am, but it didn't matter. They were like, "Yes, do that." You know? And also my grandfather was an amazing dancer and so we had that in common.
[00:34:45] Jane: So from this past weekend, just all of these weird synchronicity kind of moments, meeting people and that I felt I was supposed to meet. And then, my sister and I, we talking about a book. She was like, "I really, the Let Them theory really spoke to me."
[00:34:56] Jane: And then literally two minutes later, we see a woman sitting there reading " Let Them" by Mel Robbins. And then we talk to her about it, and then she starts sitting with us in the different classes and just talking about how she was there that weekend for, healing and she'd gone through a rough season and she just really-- and she loved being near us, okay? And then on the last day we were there, she told us that she just lost her sister
[00:35:18] Heidi: Oh my
[00:35:18] Jane: she was like wanting to be around us because,
[00:35:21] Etienne: Oh my
[00:35:22] Jane: yeah. And then I ca- then
[00:35:23] Heidi: know her dead sister brought you guys to her
[00:35:26] Jane: 100%, right? So all of these like weird things. And then we were in a meditation where, and I was having really just seeing all the different colors that are associated with different chakras, and I was like, "Oh wow, this is really cool."
[00:35:39] Jane: I like it when I'm having a meditation and the visuals are just happening and I'm seeing a kundalini spiral and it's a beautiful, beautiful thing, right? And that doesn't happen to me every time I meditate, but if I'm doing it consistently and in that kind of intentional space that I've carved out where I'm just like, "This is what I'm doing," you know?
[00:35:56] Jane: It happens and it's just a very intense and beautiful experience. And there are no words, and so for someone who's focused on words, it's just a fucking gift to have nothing going on in my head except color and love. So this woman comes. She's like, "Oh," she goes, "I had a really cool, that was a cool experience."
[00:36:11] Jane: I'm like, "Yeah, me too." I was like, "Lovely." It's no words, no words in my head, and I'm so focused on words all the time, it was a gift. She goes, "Yeah, me too, I'm a writer." And I'm like, "Me too." And then she talks about, the book that she wrote for children and it's looking it up right now to see if I can, um... it's a book f- about a little
[00:36:29] Etienne: Aww
[00:36:30] Jane: Who's looking for the piece of himself, and it's this little kind of puzzle piece that falls out of him. it's, Oh man, what was her name? But, she wrote a book about meditation for children and, she felt like she needed to be able to break into the market in a specific way.
[00:36:46] Jane: And I was like, "Oh." I was like, "Well, I could help you with that." I'm like, "You just need to contact these national library organizations." She was like, "I can't crack getting into libraries." I'm like, "Ah." I was like, "I had all these marketing ideas, you know, from my prior..." I'm like, "Actually, I'm a licensed content marketer. I took this whole course and..." And she looked up, she goes, "Of course you are." She, with a big smile on her face. ' Because she was looking for how do I crack this, you know? And, I'm like, "Oh, I have ideas right now." I'm like, "I'll email you some stuff." And then I was about to ask her, like, "Do you have a card?"
[00:37:16] Jane: And she was already reaching into her little pouch, and she just opened her mouth at the same time. I was like, "Do you?" And she was like, "Here's..." And we just started laughing. And I was like, "Thank you for your card." I'm like, "I will email you." And then it just, other people , we met this amazing musician and this other licensed therapist that were a couple, and we were singing songs that we all...
[00:37:36] Jane: They knew what I wanted to hear, and we were just hanging out around a fire and playing music together, and it was really beautiful. And then they were like, "Yeah, we weren't even gonna come here. But, we were in Asheville, and then we thought, oh, we're in the mountains.
[00:37:46] Jane: Let's go just check out this place. And it just seemed amazing." And then they were like, "But the thing that sucks is that we somehow have to get back to Charlotte tomorrow, and we don't know how it's gonna happen because the shuttle that is supposed to run to Charlotte doesn't run on Sundays. But we'll figure it out."
[00:38:02] Jane: And I'm like, "I literally have to drive right through Charlotte tomorrow on the way to my house." And I was like, "And I have space in my car. I'll take you." I haven't done that kind of shit since I was in my early 20s doing drugs and not really caring. Like, "Sure, get in my car. I just met you."
[00:38:16] Etienne: W-
[00:38:16] Jane: and we...
[00:38:18] Etienne: There's not that many women serial killers,
[00:38:20] Jane: It... Uh, exactly. No, of course not. And so we just all had a wonderful, wonderful time and,
[00:38:27] Heidi: that's amazing
[00:38:28] Jane: just them and my sister, we all were saying things to each other that we all needed to hear. Like, we just met. But that kind of serendipity, I feel like is once you start... I set an intention for the weekend, and once I did it for several days in a row, the shit just keeps happening, right? And so I feel like the idea of, like, a psychic, right, is just someone who-
[00:38:51] Heidi: It's open
[00:38:52] Jane: Yes. And can tap into that,
[00:38:54] Heidi: anybody can be psychic. Like anybody can. Yeah. Just because someone has these abilities doesn't make them special. They just practice at it, and they open themselves up to it. That's it. That's it. That's the difference between them and someone who is like, "I don't have any experiences."
[00:39:12] Heidi: Well, start meditating. That's step number one, right? And just be open to it. Don't be closed off to it, and it will eventually happen if you practice hard enough. Yeah. There are some people who are just, like, naturally open. You know, they've been open since childhood,
[00:39:26] Jane: So I guess if we could all just open that door, and then I guess the lesson is you can learn how to be your own psychic. So good luck out there. Goodbye
[00:39:35] Heid: And that's our show. You've been listening to The Women Are Plotting. If you have a story you'd like to share or have any comments, we'd love to hear from you.
