Alan Baines
Alan Baines, Managing Broker at Berthon USA, began his career at sea after growing up in South Devon, training as a deck cadet with P&O and serving on a range of commercial vessels worldwide. After qualifying as Second Mate, he worked as a Second Officer before travelling and working in Australia, later returning to the UK to study Yacht and Boatyard Management in Southampton.
An internship brought him to the US, where he managed a marina and boatyard on Cape Cod before moving into yacht sales in Newport, Rhode Island. His passion for premium yachts led to key roles with Nautor Swan and the founding of Scandinavian Yachts Inc., later becoming Berthon USA in 2010.
Alan has been instrumental in developing Berthon’s US presence and brand portfolio, with deep expertise in both sail and power yachts.
