It might have been Hannah’s nightmare, but it turns out that recording a live podcast (at a bike race, no less) can actually be extremely fun. The Sturms sat down in front of a live audience in Stillwater, Oklahoma, over the weekend to talk about being at Mid South, how Sarah’s pregnancy will affect her future in the Grand Prix, and why she thinks she’s turning into Kim Kardashian. They also answer audience questions about their not-so-solid sisterly bond and what it was like recording their very first podcast episode together.

Welcome to Talking Over You with Sarah Sturm and Hannah Sturm. Here we go. If you're gonna be an asshole, at least funny. At least be funny. I thought it was a man coon. We need to have like a real athlete on here. It makes me consider different careers every time I have to pee in my chamois. Um thank you for coming to Talking Over You live our first and maybe last live podcast. Um yeah. Oh my god, you guys are awesome. I think actually we should rename it. We put this here and was like, oh, it's between two ferns, but we're like, it's between two sterms. So it's if anyone knows Zach Galfinakis. There is a podcast called Between Two Ferns with Zach Galfinakis, but I love that you guys all know our podcast and not that one. Um, this is really cool to see everybody who's uh not racing the pro race, so good job to you. These are my pinto. This is like negative reinforcement for me because this is way more fun. So shoot. This is insane. This is crazy. I've never been to like a big race like this or any like event like this, and it is wild. What was the last so Hannah doesn't like my family doesn't really I don't know they hear about my bike racing when I'm like they see me on the you know results and they're like good job or we're gonna wait. They say, Oh, you tried so so hard. Your hair looks so cute. Love your outfit. But what's your like what's your I'm curious because you don't go to many of these. And I wanted specifically Hannah to come to Mid-South because it's like a very spe it's you guys. Like, this is why I love this race. The course is not for me, but this is, and I wanted Hannah to experience it. So, hot take. Wow, I have so many hot takes uh so far. A lot of them have to do with you. Um well what let's table that. I mean, really, I'm like, wow, Bobby throws a great party for himself. Um, we do love that. He's a lot of fun. He was, and was anyone at the like women's start just now? What was he saying about yeah, woo, I missed the men, but yanking. What was he saying about woodworking? Did we catch that? He was like, had a whole like motivational thing, and then he was like, and the woodworkers. Like, yeah, yeah, the woodworkers. I think he was he was really reaching. Um, but he's good at that. He is good at that. No, this is incredible. Uh, everyone is so nice. I don't know if that's a specific thing to like this event. Yes. Um, and maybe everyone else can attest to that, but every single person that I have seen talked to, people who are working at the restaurants and the and the shops, everyone has been incredibly friendly. Um and like I I kind of understand why people do not you, like not like not pros. But I don't think fair. But but it also is so insanely exhausting, and I don't know if that's again like a you thing, and just like following you around, but like yesterday we had our first like full day and it it was insane and it was pretty mild, and keep saying how mild it was, and it was absolutely What was insane about it? Well, I think that's what it's like so specific to you because you can't walk three feet without somebody being like, um Which I love, which you love. I love that and you and it's everyone is so incredibly nice and how cool that they like want to see you and talk to you and take pictures with you. Um, but holy shit, when we actually have like anything to do, I don't know how like Dylan does it, how Roscoe, who takes photos. I don't know how they I think I need to get one of those, and maybe we'll have one soon. One of those, like they're like stuffed animals that like are also a leash for kids. Yeah, a backpack. For real. Ellen wanted to get me one for Sea Otter is I don't does anyone go to Sea Otter that goes to this race? I'm sorry. What was that? What? It's Sea Otter is like this, like the it's like a trade show like this, but like on crack. Like it's insane. There's like you have to have an app to figure out where booths are. Oof. It's nuts. So anyway, it's sort of like a trade show with like happens to have bike racing. But mid-south is really, to me, it's really special. How many like I wonder how many times have you is there anyone who's never done Mid South before? And oh my god! Oh my god! Okay, wow Okay, well, welcome. Um, I I guess I've only done I've raced Mid South one time. Um, but I've this is my third time here because last year was a bummer. Um okay, that was that's probably why. Yeah. Um but it's just a special event just because there's so many. Let me explain really quick, because I keep forgetting that like we also are recording a podcast that then is gonna oh mom is gonna listen to. Yeah, this is for moms. So like mommy in Oklahoma. Yeah. I did call her this morning. Um, I did call her this morning because I went for a walk to the boomer reservoir. I was like, you'd love it here. You'd fit in perfectly. Um, boom! But I was like talking about how like wrangling you and like how you know you just are stopped at every spot. And she was like, you know, since Sarah was a baby, like dad and I used to joke that we would like, you know, drop her off at daycare or whatever, and all of the kids, all of the teachers would flock around, and that they used to joke about it because you're like this magnetic little baby. Then she also was talking about, so she talked about that, and I was like, oh my god, that's so spot on. And then and then also she was like, and she would throw the biggest tantrums I've she was talking about being in like a department store or something, and you threw a huge tantrum, and she walked by you and said, I don't know whose kid that is, but they need to get a handle on the phone. Because you were so awful. I do know that mom, like, we were in Alaska, and she left. I in my head it was Hannah, but now I'm like, maybe it was me. She took the whole car seat out of the car with the kid, one of us, in it, and just set it on the side of the road and then drove the hell away. In Alaska. I feel like you have that story wrong. And I feel like she's gonna be basically and Brian, this is the middle child dynamic that you okay. I got called out, and I'm gonna call you out. Shout out!

SPEAKER_00

I'm gonna shout you out!

SPEAKER_01

Brian and I were talking yesterday, and he was like, Sarah, you have middle child energy. And I was like, Oh my god, what? There's a middle child energy. And he was like, Yeah, your mom is the oldest, I'm the middle, and Hannah's the youngest. And I was like, No, I think that's wrong. I think I'm the oldest, you're the middle, and mom's the youngest. Truly. I do too. Especially now. Bless her sweet little children. Shout out mom. She's incredible. Okay, sorry, I have to pause. We forgot to talk about our amazing sponsor. Oh my god, yeah. That's true. The reason we're able to do this is thank you, Silka, our presenting sponsor, and also thank you, Tailwind, um, our co-sponsor. They're fabulous. They have supported me for a very long time, and now they get to support you guys because we have a shitload of prizes. It's so much stuff. And it's gonna be so unorganized in just a second. It's gonna be like Oprah in here. And now you get chainwags. I know you get Tailwind! Check out your pillow! Yeah, hope you like those pillows. Thank you to those guys, and then also thank you to Topo Designs. Um, we have Shammy Butter, Tailwind, and well, more Tailwind gate, thank you. Um, yeah, we already talked about Tilwind. And then we have Garmin also. And am I forgetting any? I just heard my zipper go one more.

unknown

It's like, no!

SPEAKER_01

I'm looking at, I think that's it. Yeah, we got him. Okay, phew. Sorry, we have so many awesome sponsors, it's just hard to remember. And the second Sarah asks me to do a sponsor thing, I'm like, well, they can't. I don't know. You do my guy. I don't want to. Anyway, thank you so much. Um, they are amazing. They sponsor my career in this pod. So thank you. Um, okay, we are we have so much to get to. Um, all of it, okay. Actually, in the crowd, I'm just curious how many people are racing tomorrow. Wow! And I'm so sorry for those of you in the back. You should be off of your feet. You should be sitting, but we ran out of pillows and couch. Um that's so exciting. Uh, I'm just curious how many people are doing the 100. I just really am okay, and then 50. Wait, and who's not racing at all? Who's here supporting?

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And we're here to actually have fun. You know, and and Dylan, Dylan this morning signed up for sorry, husband Dylan.

unknown

No, no, no, no, no.

SPEAKER_01

He's fine. He literally, he literally does everything. He does a lot. It's crazy. He's doing the dishes, making sure I have water. He signed up for the single speed 100.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but he's also an idiot. And he's on a fixed gear, so he doesn't even have brakes. He can't. Is that what that means? Yeah. Oh, okay. And we're gonna explain what a fixed gear is to Hannah. Yeah, I'm going, what do you mean you mean that you can't coast? So his little legs are just going, so we're gonna take donations. We'll take donations in case he has to have a knee surgery after this. Wait, wait, hold on. What do you mean you can't break though? So you break by pedal backwards. Well, sort of. It's not a coaster break. Like if he does a jump, if he jumps in the air, his legs are still jumping up.

unknown

What?

SPEAKER_01

It looks so stupid. Okay, we're getting back into it. Blah, blah, blah. Blah, blah, blah. It's been insane. Um, it was a little bit emotional, I will say, like watching the pros go. I was like, I had I was like trying to film, and I had like my hand was shaking, and then um uh Cecile, classic Cecile moment. She was like, Sarah, what's in your bottle? And I was like, water? She was like, like throwing her a bottle. I'm like, so unlike Dylan, I'm the worst, I'm the worst support, but it was it's really it was a crazy experience to like stand on the sideline and see like what I normally do and what we'll all be doing tomorrow. I think you get in this, like, I mean, you have to, you have to focus, but like a hundred miles, fifty miles, eleven miles out here, like it's crazy. Like, next to so many people, next to people on dirt is wild. Like, when whenever we talk to like our friends that are not bike people, which honestly in Durango is seldom, but every time I go to a wedding and they're like, So what do you do? Like, oh my god, I pee in my chamois. It's so crazy. Like, you're they have so many questions that you're like, oh my god, as I'm explaining this, this is actually a really wild thing that all of us are able to do, but then also like to make a job out of it is pretty silly. Like, I'm just looking at everyone in their skin suits and arrow helmets, and like well, and even just like being at the house, so like we are staying in the pinkest house that has ever existed. Oh my god. It is insane. It looks like Pink Pony Club. We took it down, we teach chairs from Airbnb. But there are cameras everywhere, so we had to like sneak them out. And we still probably will get fined for it. Um, obviously a shortcut. No talking about the chairs in the house just in case there's a microphone. Um, but we're staying with uh Ellen. Yep, who's racing. Who's racing? So Ellen. Yeah, she's so great. But like watching her, and I guess it's weird that it's like an afternoon start, right? Because it's normally like an early morning start. Yeah, it's so weird. She was like not knowing what to do, and like what to do, she was eating uh rice with a pancake and maple syrup on the rice, and I was like, Well, this is strange, and like talking of I mean, just like going through her like checklist. It's it's really and all and Ellen does it all herself, too. Yeah, she has like she doesn't have a mechanic. Well, Dylan and and Anna will help, but yeah, it's really impressive. It's really impressive. It's also a weird combination of things you have to do. Like clean your bike, we were changing. And it's a it's so much. And then on top of that, it's like going around and like talking to people. I guess I don't know if that is that like a normal thing that people are doing, or is that a you thing? Um, I would say like now that the sport is getting a lot more professionalized and faster and people have big salaries, um athletes are like pro athletes are getting lamer and lamer. Like they yeah. Well, I mean, it just takes so like the marginal gains are getting fewer and fewer. So like you don't want to be on your feet a ton. And it's it's why I'm actually excited in some ways for this season, because like the thing in the back of my head, whenever I I love going to the event like before a race, but it's so drain, like it's so draining that like now I don't I like very seldom am like walking around. I walk around as little as possible, not just because I want to I don't want to be on my feet, but it's like once I like see a couple people, then I'm like, oh my god, four hours have gone by and like whoopsie. She's not kidding, she's not exaggerating. And I haven't had water. We walked half of a block and it was like, okay, it's been four hours, it's time to go home now. The first year that I was at Sea Otter, um, I learned that lesson really the truly. I was like, oh my god, I've been at the trade show for five hours and I had the worst race ever. And I was like, that's so crazy. There aren't any other pros. Where is it? I haven't I haven't talked to any other pros since we've been here, other than Ellen, who we're in the house with. And I'm like, oh, yeah, maybe this is just a you thing. Yeah. I also recognize that you're like not racing, but I don't feel like that's that different for no. I I mean I like to honestly, it also helps with my nerves. Like I have such bad nerves that I'm like sometimes just like kind of packing my schedule, and like a lot of the time I'll be doing like sponsor stuff where like you have photos, like unbound is unhit who's going unbound out of this crowd. Okay, sweet. Wow, honestly, like mid-satur, yeah, that's crazy. I can't wait. But it's it's it is a different ball game. Like you're yeah, I get there on Tuesday before the race on Saturday, and my schedule is pretty much like eight in the morning until like three or four p.m. each day, just with like sponsor obligations, and there is and some most of the athletes will have that, but yeah, there's like photo shoots that they have to do. It's like like we were just like sitting on the couch hanging out, and it was like, okay, well, Roscoe needs to film like an interview, and then it was like, Yeah, okay, well, get on your skin suit or whatever. We like jam my body into a skin suit. Yeah, jam your little sausage into it. Honestly being pregnant for cycling is kind of great because like the clothes do stretch. Not as much as you're gonna need them to. I think you forget that you are only halfway. I know. And that it gets a lot bigger from here. Well, hopefully, yeah, truly. The seams are being tested, and my name is on the side, and it's like, and you're so sweaty. Can you see my athlete? You're sweating through a black sweat, a black shirt. Gross. It's hot. I'm still an athlete. I'm in the sun. I gave you the best. Can you see my sweat up? Yeah, I can see it from people. Can you guys see the sweat? Yeah, good. Yeah, we're all hot. We're all hot. You guys are you're really in the sun. Well, might I not suggest having a little sister to point it out? Yesterday she was talking to somebody and I was like, ew, you just spit so much. That's awesome. Well, because people are like, Wow, so it's not you know, fangirling, and I'm like, ew, she just like spit a huge, like, weird thing out of her. Hannah's here just to keep me humble. Yeah, and somebody has to do it. Truly. I have gotten a lot of DMs from people, and they're like, especially after your dance. Oh no. If you haven't seen my Instagram, Hannah did a funny. Hannah did get most of the rhythm, all of the rhythm in our I then had to lay on the ground and stretch my back, though. I was like, fuck. But people really want Hannah to cut because it's I mean, you're a unique person to have at a bike race because you don't give a shit about cycling. Yeah, true. That is so true. I do feel like more people who don't actually want to ride bikes would probably enjoy being here. Like, this is really fun. It's kind of just like a festival for those of us who enjoy the bicycle. But I also could see like if this is like your scene, right? And you really want to like be in it and like be part of it, that there's uh there's probably like so much like it's fun for me because I'm like, I don't care. Doesn't matter, it's not a scene I ever want to be a part of, other than like in this capacity. Yeah. But for people who actually like want to be a part of this, I can imagine like there are other feelings that come along with it of like uh like comparison stuff that probably comes up a lot. And um I mean hopefully it's like a really like inclusive people. Mid South is more inclusive. Mid South seems that way, but more inclusive. I imagine, yeah. And maybe I'm totally off base, but like I don't know, what do you guys think? Yeah, like when you're like looking around, are you like, oh, like I don't fit in enough, or like I'm not doing this enough, or like I'm worried about like how I'm gonna stack up. Okay, cool, great. Maybe not. Maybe I'm totally off base. I don't know. Maybe like very confident. Okay. We have zero insecurities in this room. Honestly, I know you're we're we're talking to the people that actually like do this truly, like for the pure love of the sport. And like, I think like I I think all of us to a certain extent, but like the lines start getting a little fuzzier when you're like when you get pressure put on yourself. When you put pressure on, like the pros, yeah. I don't know, it's a different, they're not as it's not fun. They're not as fun. I just don't even want to interview you. I actually just want to like talk to other people. But no, I know, I know that's no, it's interesting. I know how you feel. But I'm like, no, I'm just gonna be able to do that. That's like why like that makes sense to me. Like Mid South is like where people who really love the sport, like cut, like there's kind of an event, like there's a pre-ride, there's a donut, there's a coffee, there's a well yeah, there was donuts this morning at the yeah, you missed it.

unknown

Oh damn.

SPEAKER_01

I had fucking eggs at the house. I had donut. Ew, yuck. No, I held my burrito up and it was just dripping out the body. It was soggy. But it was really nice of you to do that. No, my point was like, I think like there, like the bigger the pro category is, like, the the energy changes. Like, those are the people that are like, am I faster than that person next to me? Wait, that's so interesting. I mean that's not maybe I'm wrong. No, it's not just the pros, but I would say like the normal people that like ride bikes for the love of it that are here for fun. Um, way better attitude. Yeah, south is different. Okay, feel free to honestly truly chime in. Like every time Hannah and I are talking about hippos and manatees, and we're incorrect about which one is aggressive, me being incorrect. I know all of you are listening, you're like, She's a fucking idiot. And now is your time to participate and tell us that you're an idiot. We will take it. Honestly, I hear crying. I hear from most of my friends, and they're like, oh my god, it was driving me pot crazy on your podcast when you were saying the wrong thing. I was like, I'm so sorry. I couldn't remember the name of Motocross. What did you call it? I don't know, dirt bike competition or something. Sounds right to me. So are you feeling any kind of FOMO? Not after I'm done with, like, I've been really looking forward to this and like meeting people that like want it, and for some reason, I'm so sorry. Hear us talk. Sir, is that a fingernail? Oh my god, it is! Just gonna kick that away. Oh wait, that's a perfect transition. Hannah, okay, so I announced my pregnancy. I do not care about how you feel, but let's talk about something else. I announced my pregnancy um live, finally, thank God. And Hannah texted me that morning and she's like, I know it's a big day for you, but I just want you to know it's also a big day for me. I found a gel polish that I did myself. You are incorrect. And I said, I'm pregnant with a new skill. So I'm gonna talk about my nails for just a second. Okay because it is important. Hannah said, I'm pregnant with a new skill. I said I'm pregnant with a new skill. Um I went to Walmart to go get batteries for this event, and then I found that they had like a gel like system, not just a gel polish, but the light and the whole thing. And we've been talking about nails so much, and like I'm not gonna pay money to like go to a place and do the thing. And so I was like, maybe I'll just maybe I'll just get it for myself and just give it a go. And I sat there. I literally in Walmart was like Googling reviews on this thing to be like, should I?

SPEAKER_00

It's it was$25.

SPEAKER_01

Like it wasn't expensive. Um, and so I did it, and my nails look fabulous. However, thank you! Yes, I love you. However, I'm gonna tap in here. Hannah was at we had we had separate seats, and she texts me from the back of the plane and she goes, I have horrible news. One of my nails. Popped off somewhere. And then I was like, oh my god, how funny is it gonna be if we see it in the aisle? I was like, I'm picking up, I'll glue it back on. I didn't find it. I didn't find it. And so uh they've been popping off every day since. Um so if you see a dark blue or a green, um, that's because and now I'm starting to take bets uh with people in the house of which one's gonna pop off next. And so far, Anna, I we owe her a dollar. Um, because she got this one. No, I guess that one. No, she guessed this one. Oh, no, I guess oh, maybe it was your other hand. Yeah. But that also popped off. Yeah, you'll find it. We have like a weird thing with the nail. Like, anytime we see like a rogue, like acrylic nail. I hate seeing them like on a hike. That is not great, but it is also very funny every time. And we'll take a picture and send it to each other. You really do. Also, I have a friend who takes pictures of those flossers. Actually, he might have an Instagram. Like, I think his Instagram is just flossers in the wild. Gross. And it's so gross. Don't buy those. Don't buy those. Don't buy those. They're also not recommended by dentists. Literally, all I wanted to talk about. It's literally all I've got. Hannah's been dying to talk about her stupid nails. But look at how good that one looks. You can see that it's like shiny and really nice. Also, I have offered it's probably blinding people in the back. Okay, should we talk about do you guys want to hear about bike race stuff like for tomorrow? They're be careful to say yes. They totally do. Okay, like what's the biggest thing that you're like nervous for?

unknown

Watercrossing.

SPEAKER_01

The water crossing. You have to do a watercrossing. Oh, yeah, Hannah.

unknown

At the end.

SPEAKER_01

At the end? At the end. Oh no. Okay, all right. So for all, sorry, I keep. Well, normally. Oh my god. So last year two years ago, so normally. Describe the watercrossing. The course this year is very different than how it's been in the past. In pretty much one way, that you hit this one water crossing at the end and not at the beginning and the end. I mean, uh I think actually the year was anyone racing COVID 2020. Did anyone do that? How was the water crossing that year?

unknown

Pretty much the whole way of saying.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, because it was all a water crossing. Okay, so 2020, Mid-South. Mid-South really got good publicity that year because it was the only bike race that happened during the pandemic. We would joke with Mid South. How many people got COVID? Super Spread. Worth it. We would joke with Payson because he won that year, and we were like, oh God, he's never gonna shut up. Because it was the only race that any of us had. And it wasn't everyone was there? No, no. We didn't know it wasn't gonna get can't everything else was gonna it was the pandemic, Hannah. Well, no, I'm trying to understand why he was gonna be okay. Keep going. I'll begin. Because that was the last race that happened. And so when races weren't happening, Payson was just like, and that one time I won mid-south, and it was just like every photo. Sorry. I'm shit talking Payson, the one who's like part of our podcast. His sister literally like edits all of our stuff. Shout out Payson. Shout out Lily. So the 2020 year, it was like a cre it was this weekend and like a crazy cold, rainy downpour. March? Like that was like, oh, right before everything shut down? Yeah. Okay. Okay. Well that was pandemic. But that's what I was trying to understand. All right, I got it. Oh, you guys thought we would turn down the sister dynamic for this? No. We've been staying in the same house. I know.

unknown

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

So anyway, the water crossing is a big deal because normally it comes up like right away, like in the start, and you double back. Can you please describe it? Okay, it's like it's like a an embedded rock descent, faster entrance, and then it's like a stream, like a little stream or river that you I mean, I I it depends on how much rain there is. Well, that is a good answer. So do you ride through it? So some people ride, and then like I mean, I remember I I would if I were racing this weekend, I would have gone out to the water crossing, sussed it out, figured out my line, and then made plan A and plan B. So like plan A is the line that I would want to take, which is probably like the fast line and the and the line that like gets your bike the least fucked up. Oops. Sorry, F-word. Oh, well, I was gonna try not to, but um, yeah, sorry. Um, but you don't have to worry about that as much. So like having it later in the race, you don't have to worry about like getting your bike all clogged with mud and grit first thing. That always kind of sucks when you hit like the muddy section, the rainy like whatever, and your bike, you know, they're vulnerable. They have gears and stuff. So now it's like close to the end, but you do kind of have like the water crossing. Because it there's some like rocks in there, and like you can kind of like you don't you don't really want to be the person that's like, oh no, and then you tip over and fall into the creek. And that's what we're worried about. Or that's an advantage because it will be nice and cool. Yeah, that's why I'm going for the runners. You didn't want to run through it and just get like a little huh? Oh blisters feet. Yeah. Because was it at the beginning of your race? Oh, okay. Yeah. Okay, water crossing. Sandy toes for a running race. No, no, no. Okay, so we're worried about the water crossing. But we are we've already covered that. So we got the good, we're feeling like a lot of things. We got the water crossing. I think have plan A, plan B. Like, plan B is like if there's a lot of people going in, pick that bike up and just run your ass across it. Cyclocross, shadow! Honestly, uh, there's so many times when I was racing cyclocross, I was like, this is the most ridiculous skill that I have spent so many hours perfecting. Like in the park, looking like an insane person in the middle of winter, practicing, getting off your bike, run, run, run, run, run, suitcast, suitcase carry, and then you tip, and then you do like the little frog kick. Hop over. Is Austin still in? Oh dang it. Austin is like true pro. Um, but anyway, I there's so many times with gravel racing that I was like, oh my god, my cyclocross skills truly are helpful here. Like riding through sand pits. Did anyone else do Valley of Tears last weekend? Okay, good. Never, never mind. That doesn't even sound like fun. Nope. I think there was a Valley of Tears. And how cute is their merch? Because cute merch on this. Okay, yeah. So the reason that there's cute merch at Mid South is because Crystal, Bobby's wife, puts all the merch together and they they understand graphic design. So I will be looking for one of those uh twos. Something that'll show your sweat just a little less. Let's see it now. Let's get a sweat check. Woo! This is so fun. Okay, wait, I did ask you if you were feeling FOMO and I felt like you didn't answer. Um well, you then you're like, there's a fingernail. That's true. That was my FOMO. Um, I'm I'm not actually having as much FOMO. I think because this is fun. Yeah. If I if I were at home, I would have FOMO. Yeah. Yeah. I have like FOMO watching the Strato Bianchi, and I've never raced that. And I don't want to race road, but I was like watching like women like go really hard at a few. That's the one that sounds like an Italian dish. Yeah. Two Strata Bianchi pasta dish. Yeah, but here I I think it's just because I'm busy and active and like in it and getting to talk to you guys, it's more fun for me. Because I don't know, this like the race is not what this race is about for me. Did you but sorry, this is gonna be like a little bit of admin stuff that like if if we have to cut it from the actual thing, just pretend we can't hear it. Did you find out if we can talk about the thing? Oh she didn't find out. I did ask. I think we should just talk about it. I did ask. Um, okay, so there's yeah, big thing. Big thing. Uh sneak peek. Um you guys are gonna be really excited. Well, I mean, it is really exciting for women's sports. So um I got into the Grand Prix this year, which obviously you're not gonna be racing. Um, and I was like, dang, that's I like that was actually the one thing that I was like, oh my god, this sucks. Like, mostly because I took the spot of someone else, and um yeah, that was a bummer for me to, you know, feel and for an athlete that I know it was a really competitive year, and I just like it truly was not my intention to get pregnant during the entire season. Like, you know, but now I've learned it's one of those things that truly just, you know, you don't have control over it, and it just can happen. Um, and so the Grand Prix were the people that I contacted actually before any of my sponsors, and I was like, and they really kept the news on the DL. Like I was like, hey, this is super fresh, like we're barely telling our family, but like I need you guys to know. And in that process, I've gotten to work with them on um, and they've been really awesome and figuring out like a really fair way to like deal with me leaving and announcing everything, but also like making it um a policy for other female athletes that want to have children. And we're I I there's we're still working through some of the like specifics of the like policy, but like essentially um this year and moving forward in the Grand Prix, if you're accepted and you get pregnant, you can then defer to the following year. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yay! That's a huge deal. It feels like a really, really big deal, especially like in gravel, we don't have we're not like part of the UCI. Like it's a very different, it's the Wild West still, and there's not really a lot of like backup for us wanting to do this. And so it I have to like, I mean, I'm really appreciative of them because they have to think of a lot of other pieces, but they'll be adding, I I believe so. I don't know. They will be calling it the Sturm Clause, am I correct? That will it's a lot of alliteration, it's like Grand Prix pregnancy policy. But um there they will then add another wild card spot, so then um, yeah, so basically the same amount of women will be able to compete in the Grand Prix, and I won't be taking anyone's spot. I did have one person that I wanted to get like voted onto the island, but it would be not fair. So they're gonna do it in a fair way, and it feels like a huge move for off-road racing, which is sweet. And now I really like when I was younger, people would talk about like maternity stuff and pregnancy clauses, and I'm like, yeah, that's cool, whatever. But now I'm like, no, this is like huge, huge, huge deal. And it really, I mean, it's yeah, it's awesome. So that's been a really fun part of this. Totally. And I think we should celebrate that and be like really excited about that. However, I do have a question. Um do you think that it's gonna put more pressure on you though, for like 2027? Like, I know you already feel like you really want to race for 2027. Like, I mean that is your goal and your plan. Yeah. But do you feel like now with the deferral, like, is that enough time? And like what happens for like you are kind of like in this weird area where like you got pregnant right before the season starts. Like, and I got pregnant in in some ways a really bad time for this year, but yeah, the best time to get I basically only have to take this year off. Um if things like I have no idea. Like, are there any moms in the crowd? Okay, yay, wow. Um, I have no idea what postpartum is like, and honestly, I'm the most nervous for the fourth trimester. Yeah. And then trying to get back into the swing of things. I will say, racing though, the women that I were the that I was the most scared of uh were women who have had babies before. They were like the most intimidating because there's like there's a different thing that happens with your brain and pain as as you guys are all shaking your head. But they're like, they're amazing. Yeah, they were scary to race against. But I do wonder about like the pressure piece of it. I don't know. I don't know. I think um for me, I right now, currently, I'm like eyes on the pre like 2027. I'm like, let's go, Dylan and I will figure like you two will figure out how to do this, you know. Like, when yeah, he was like, Well, what am I gonna do? I'm gonna have like the baby and then my tool belt, and then I'm gonna have like a bottle for you, and then the bottle for the baby. I was like, yeah, it sounds great. Yeah, feeds are gonna be really crazy about. Okay, next question, moving on. But yeah, I have no idea. I have no idea. But I'm really, I mean, I especially now with like the policy being in place, I'm like, well, I guess I'll just test it out and see if it works. Well, like, what happens if somebody gets pregnant uh later and then their pregnancy like postpartum and what like it can't relax deferred to like the next one? We did some math with that because of how like there is a like sweet spot for like getting pregnant or trying to. If you're in the Grand Prix, this is gonna apply to so many people. But there is, yeah, there's you basically because I was like, well, what if someone like announces that or like announces their pregnancy right before like little and big sugar, which are the last two races, and they can't do those because they're whatever, like racing or that they're too pregnant or feel too bad or whatever. And they would then have to choose if they would want to keep they would probably want to keep you have to choose which uh deferral you want. Like do you want to skip the year that you're in currently in or the next or yeah, but then they wouldn't be able to defer to the following year because it would be too late because they would basically be pregnant the entire sounds like a problem for the Grand Prix. So anyway, it really is. How do you feel like that change is gonna change like women's gravel cycling in general? I hope I hope it's like a chain reaction because like I think a lot of bike races, like all I know I was informed that all lifetime events will also now have a maternity policy, or maybe they already did, but like if you can basically defer, like if you got into unbound and then you found out you're pregnant, you can't race, you can defer to the following year. So that does apply to a lot of people, which is great because those races are hard to get into and they're really expensive. Is this a hard race to get into? No. Medium, or we're going medium. You have to be you have to be on it. You can't decide like this weekend that you want to well, unless you're racing fixed gear single speed. I was like, It's funny because somebody has decided. Okay. Yeah, but like, yeah, like Leadville and those races are really competitive and it applies to, you know, half of the people doing it. Wow. Yeah. Cool. I think it's a huge deal. I'm excited for it. I don't know what it means. Oh my god, is it recording? Yeah. Oh, good time to think about that. This is literally every single time. No, I was just saying how long because I wanted to open up for like some questions. Yeah. I mean, if I You guys don't have to, but like, does anyone have any questions? We can keep blabbering, or you guys can ask questions. Anyone? We've got a shy budget. Have we always been this close? That's the question. Wow. All right, well, we will fill the the rest of the podcast. Really? Oh. Oh, yay! No, we haven't always been this. Wait, the question, the question was, have yeah, have you been this close always? And no, growing up, I remember going to bed and wishing that Hannah would turn wake, I would wake up in the morning and Hannah would have turned into my older brother.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my god, we have the same exact wish.

SPEAKER_01

I used to wish them all the time. Seriously? Yeah. Oh, that's so funny. Like the exact same wish. I remember going to sleep and being like, if only she could. Like, I was like, how can I get an older brother? Like, I don't think I was like, mom and dad can adopt an older brother. Like, really trying to like figure out how that could happen. Oh my god, that's really funny. So no. No. We used to always fight over, because we're two and a half years apart. Yeah. And um, we would always fight over clothes, especially when we were teenagers. And then I moved away to Durango to college. And I moved body types. And then Hannah, yeah, Hannah's changed. I don't know. I got boobies, I got collar. And then and I think like when I moved away, I was like, damn, like my sister's actually really fun to be around. I remember when you started wanting to be around me, was like you, yeah, you had gone to college, and I have a really fun group of friends. They're like real fun, and they've been my like best friends forever. Like my best friend I've known since preschool. And uh they are fun. They're funny, funny, funny, funny. And I remember like you coming back home, or uh yeah, I think you had must you must have come back home, and my friends were and you were like, oh shit, they're like really fun to hang out with. Yeah. And that's when you were like, well, maybe she's not that bad, also. Like maybe it's not just her friends, like maybe she's also kind of fun. And like starting to like, when I was in high school, I would like to. And I liked when I liked when you came to visit uh in college, and I think that that was like a big turning point. And then I lived in New Zealand for a summer and came home, and I remember trying to convince Hannah there was a s Hannah used to be a sign language interpreter, and there was a job opening in Durango for that, and I was like, that feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And uh, you didn't take the job, but she did move up to Durango, and then it was I was like, this is so cool. Like, we're really potentially too close. We're like, I'm like, I need to hang out with other people, but now you live a little further away, like 30 minutes away, um, which is gonna feel very far when I have a kid. Well, and I was thinking about it recently, like uh with the podcast, uh, which I wasn't totally anticipating because I was like, we're already really close, right? Uh, I think we've I think it's really good for us, actually. It could have gone either way. Um, there are parts of it that are really hard. You know, like we're now kind of like how do you not know how to format the card? I know we're now kind of in business together, which is like we something that we sort of thought about doing a while ago, and it was like I remember very clearly being like, nope, this is not the time. We can't be in business. I did have to kind of pull teeth a little bit to get you to do it. You had to pull so many fucking teeth. And if you would have told me that I would have to do a live podcast, I'd been like, at a bike race? No. At a bike race? Absolutely. Although we were walking over here. We were walking over here, and from the start line in that time, I was like, okay, let's go record a podcast. And we're like, we're really excited. And then we saw this guy literally outside of the port of potties, full public view, just hand into his sham. Adjusting his shit. And I was like, never mind, I'm out. I'm out. I want to do the podcast, I want to go home. I hate it here. But here we are. Hannah tapped out, but then she tapped back in. And here we are. We've made it.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so that was a great question. I think we're getting closer. Closer. And then having a baby is gonna be a different thing. I imagine I'm really excited for Hannah to be an aunt. Like, that's gonna be really cool for my kid. Oh. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you, thank you. Okay, quick another question. We should give away some shit. We have so much stuff. Yeah, we have so much stuff to leave. You will get um rewarded for staying here this week. We have like two more. If anyone has gear questions, bike race questions. Okay, I guess if you have gear questions. Oh, so the question was um, yeah, like how was it starting the first episode and how long did it take us to get like a groove going? And I would say pretty, pretty much that episode. We figured it out. I I've done, like, I had been guests on a lot of podcasts, and I was like, I just like I really like the interview podcast for like a specific thing. Like I listen to a lot, I mostly listen to a lot of podcasts, and the ones I really love are the ones of just like friends talking. And I like I don't know these people, but I'm like, I feel like Paige and Hannah are my friends from the Giggly squad. Like, I really love that podcast. And I also feel like there is that missing from the cycling world, and also Hannah's perspective of not being a cyclist, but living with a cycle, like basically, yeah, knowing it is really unique. And I just felt like the cycling world like really needed Hannah's perspective. Truly, no, really, it's awesome, and it's and because you're every time I have a shitty bike race, like, and even though it is my job, it's really helpful to have the person in your life that's like a good reminder of like, this is not an important like it's fine, you're not a bad person just because you DNF'd or like got third for the millionth time, or like you know, got twelfth or whatever. It's like because it's my life and it's everything, and we train really hard and we're out here, and then you are filled with disappointment. It's really these people in our lives are really freaking important. So, and then to answer the question, um God. I f no no, keep going. Don't stop. No. You go first. Honestly, I can't even remember what the question was. What if I know who? Um, I do think it works pretty well because Sarah likes to talk. She's just a yammerer. And uh and I like to ask questions and sometimes listen to her talk and then also just make fun of her because she's really easy to make fun of. And she's a good sport most of the time. Like 90% of the time. We'll see how those hormones hit you, but uh it mostly. Oh no. Um like looking at the city. Okay, most of the time it's just it's just fun and easy because this is kind of our our dynamic anyway. Yeah. And really, like, we just didn't know if people were gonna wanna listen to us talk a bunch of shit. Um, but there are some people here, and that's really cool. And it's the best part of it is that like there are people who And we've learned a lot. Mostly from you, not from each other. Yeah, no, I haven't learned anything, but I'm like, oh. Yeah, cool people to meet. Yeah, that's right. It's been I it's just a fun medium. Like, I really I love listening to pods. What's everyone I'll ask you afterwards, but mom? She has been on, but we need to have her on again. We had her on uh the day after Thanksgiving, and I had like the most insane hormonal. Oh my god. There were so many we had to be. And it's giving me shit about hormones. That was something was something was off that was that that cycle. It was I was not deep in the first trimester and really barfy, and we went on a run, and I was like, okay, she's just gonna cry the whole run. And then we had to even the podcast. And I was like, you've got it. It's good, we're good, we're fine. It was awful. Dylan was like, you might need to have your mom back on. So great suggestion. We will have, we will have mom back on. Yeah, she was I so I talked to her this morning, and uh she was saying that she just listened to a podcast with Chris Jenner, which is like Kim Kardashian. No, no, she's not a Jenner anymore. She's a Kardashian, right? Chris? Chris Kardashian? Okay, okay, great. I guess Sarah didn't look like she knew. Which one? The mom. The mom. Okay. Okay. Her name is Chris. I don't know. It could have been the mom. It's the mom. And so she was listening to a podcast and she was like, well, sometimes I kind of like she was like, I can kind of relate to those things. And I it was like when you were talking about how now that you are pregnant and your like butt is coming back, and Sarah uh was doing an interview with somebody and was like, I kind of feel like I'm turning into like Kim Kardashian. And I was like, okay, like, I don't know. I'm just getting like really curvy and my butt is just getting like perfect. I'm just feeling like Kim Kardashian, but mom was saying that she felt like Chris Jenner because her daughters are all like doing cool things and like that's really sweet, Mom, but like so far off. I don't really want that comparison either. There's a lot of other more successful people doing cooler stuff. I know. Well, yeah, anyway. Thanks, Mom. Mom will be back. Okay. One last question, then we're gonna give you guys some prizes. Prizes. Yeah. Oh my god, you're like one week ahead of me. She's 21 weeks. The same as you. Wait, Sarah? The question. The question was so we have another woman in the crowd. Sorry, for the pod. You get it. Um, she's 21 weeks pregnant. Yay. Um, and the question is, how is it to be on a bike as a pro as a pregnant person? Pro pregnant person. Um honestly, the same, I think. I mean, I would say for someone, if you've ridden before your pregnancy and then you get on a bike when you're pregnant, it feels the same for a pro. Like, and there's different levels of like some of my actually is just left me a really nice voice memo that I need to listen to about she had a very active pregnancy. She raced unbound 51 pregnant, which she was like, God, I've never won a bike race, and of course I win one when I'm pregnant. Um, and she she's great, she's been a really like big help for me, but also uh it's kind of weird because she's had a really different, she had a really different experience. I don't feel great, and I like my sitz bones, like my I think I need to get a wider seat. Kim Kardashian. I'm we're thinking Kim Kardashian. You can tell I'm actually Kim K. I'm sure she just opens her pants. Um, yes, I do know my pants are open. Um, but yeah, it's uncomfortable. Like there was a moment where I was like, oh, I can feel exactly where my uterus is, which is weird because normally the only organ I feel like I have awareness around is when my bladder is full. Or like my stomach is really full. But yeah, it just feels like uncomfy and like, yeah, when I'm and when I'm descending, I'm like, oh, I'm really hyper aware of like the danger of this sport. So doing like a mass start like rate, like racing is for me out, like a truly no judgment for other people who want to do that. Like I'm gonna line up tomorrow and just pick my way through, but like race brain for me is a very different sensation than what I'm experiencing now. Are you not worried that your race brain's gonna kick on? Uh no, I mean your rat brain? No. Okay. No, because it's I mean it is scary. Like, yeah, you have like a really vulnerable thing. I mean, my doctor was like, do everything you can do everything you did before a pregnancy. And she was like, but when it gets when you get like really big, there she was like, There's just a very small amount of material between your kid and like its head and like the stem of your bike. So she's like, you don't really want to bonk it too many times. And I was like, Yeah, not too many, just a couple bonks. And I'm like, yeah, that's gonna be wild. But no, it's for me, I've been pretty uncomfying. Like, even just I can feel where my ass is falling through this chair. It's like not comfortable. Don't feel underneath. It feels really weird. Slatted. Um, but I can't wait to talk to you about your pregnancy after this. I just get really excited. Like when I went to a prenatal yoga class, I'm like, other pregnant people. It's great to talk to them because honestly, there's not a lot at bike races I've learned. So yay. Great question. Um, okay. Prizes? Prizes, god, yeah. I want to feel like Oprah.

SPEAKER_00

Woo!

SPEAKER_01

Whoa. Crazy, what a day. What a whirlwind. Day will do ya. Oh my god. So we're still in. I was gonna say Arkansas. We're still in Arkansas, which is also known as Stillwater Ohio. And um, okay, since we recorded last, we have finished the live podcast. So I can't wait to hear that. And handed out so many goodies thingies. We were Oprah. It was incredible. That was a good thing. You get Chain Lu, then you get Taobin, you get the coolest pack of silka tooled. Okay, so many, anyway. We we gave away a lot of stuff. And then um and then we interviewed some of the winners. Um, the men's winner, the women's winner. Um I didn't get the non-binary winner, and I'm so bummed. I know. I thought about that and was like, shh. And it's Robin, right? Yeah. Yeah. Dang it, Robin. I'm so sorry. I know we need to do it. And they attended Single Speed Worlds. So, like, anyway. Uh, but shout out because first year for non-binary. Pro. Pro. Yeah. Yes. And they crushed it, honestly. Yeah. And it was like not a tiny field. Like they had like No, it was really emotional. Like every all the posts that I saw from that race, everyone was really just excited to be racing with that field. So, and I know how that feels to finally have your own start, your own race. You're not like, I mean, what Dylan did today, like you're not like, I have no idea what place I finished in. So that was really cool. So then we got those interviews. We may not have gotten the men's interview because I will see. We will see because uh one of the mics might not have been fully plugged in. But we were talking grooving all over the place. Yeah. Um but we wanted to just pop a pop on, pop in real quick, pop in real quick and do a a little recap before we have to go to awards for Dylan because that dumbass got on the podium for single speed, but he wasn't just on a single speed, he was on a fixed gear, yeah. Which is so stupid. But he had fun really fun. Did you have fun?

unknown

I kind of had fun.

SPEAKER_01

He kind of had fun. We'll take it. He's happy he did it. He said he was happy.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I was gonna say the fact that we just said different things, we just talked immediately over each other. Um, but I do want to start our little recap off by specifically calling out our sponsors who trusted us to do this with zero like background in like figuring out how to do live podcasts. Like I knew we would figure it out. Yeah. And um, but it's you know, they supported us, and that's really awesome, and it means a lot. And they gave out some fabulous prizes that made people really, really happy.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Um, so first off, Silka. We've talked about uh Silka products a lot on this podcast. They were part of one of our first very funny techie talkies. I still really don't know how to wax a chain, but like four people got uh the the whole chain wax setup. So they're gonna learn along with me. My favorite was the couple where he was like, Yeah, she's really wanted the like chain wax setup after she listened to the techie talkie, which is crazy. He was like, I just knew that I was gonna end up having to do all of it, and I was like nothing. Yeah, and he was like, Exactly, and I got no information from that. But he was like, So we want it, and I guess now we're doing chain waxing. And he felt really bad because like, yeah, he had sort of been like the reason like she had a mechanical issue at one of her races, and then and that's all on him, and that's all on him, and that is his fault. And yep, he is fully responsible for that. I totally threw Dylan under the bus, and I was like, and if you have any questions, DM Dylan. Yeah, you did. You wrote his Instagram down for them to and here's Dylan. And here you go. Um, and then they we also gave away um some uh of the beautiful wooden hex wrenches that had custom talking over you branded onto the top. Blew my mind. There's so many things from this weekend that have totally blown my mind. The creativity of all of these partners is really incredible. Like Richard with Silka is so like Yeah, with the bolos and the and we got Crocs, and we got Crocs and the cheese dip and the Silka pot, which really, you know, it was too much. We just truly didn't have time. Um they yeah, they were they were great, they were out on course, they have supported me as an athlete, and they support this podcast. I know what you're looking at. Sarah has the microphone cord wrapped in between her toes right now. She's clung onto it in between her seating. Little monkey girl. Um, thank you so much, Silka. Thank you so much, Silka. Oh, we we gave out so much chain lube, which thank goodness, because the dirt here is wild. Yeah. And I'm really I am really excited for people to learn how to wax their chain and the the uh chain waxing setup that Silka has, and they I'm gonna see if I can say another S. Um, they just gave us so much stuff to set these people up with, and it really makes it like I heard overheard Dylan talking to that same couple, and he was like, it really makes it so easy because it is a complicated thing as we learned. Um the other thing I wanted to say, um, because we also gave out a ton of Tailwind stuff, and I had somebody who came up to me today. I was hanging out at the aid station, um, like towards the very end of the race for the 50 and the 100, and I had somebody who came up to me and they were like, I am so glad I went to the podcast, and I'm so glad that you gave out Tailwind stuff because I had something to put in my bottles today, and he was like, and I had I had like whatever they call it, like bottle mix or whatever, and he was like, and I feel way more hydrated because of it. I was honestly that's incredible. Truly, like Tailwind, even before I was sponsored by them, if people were like freaking out about like nutrition stuff before the race, oh, I didn't bring enough drink mix, blah blah blah. I'm like, come and come over, use some tailwind. It's so like I was I'm confident that it is so easy on your system that like I really don't recommend doing anything on race day that you haven't done before. However, if there is a thing to do, Tailwind can be that thing. Worked out really well for you. So that was so Tailwind co-sponsor. Also, um, they have this awesome product. I don't know if you can get it outside of Durango, but a local brewery, Ska Brewing, partnered with Tailwind, and Ska makes a but like a bubbly water. And now there's a bubbly water called Scagwa with Tailwind electrolytes. It's really good. And so they dropped out, they came over and dropped off a couple six packs of these electrolyte bubbly waters, and we handed them out. I was actually kind of bummed because I wanted to like chug like four of them after the podcast. Yeah, you sweat enough. Heart. I honestly and uh and we gave them to all the runners who had done the half marathon or 50k, which is insane. Um I guess all that to say thank you so much. Thank you so much. Like, there's no way that this could have happened without them. So and then I just quick little shout out to all the product sponsors as well Topo Designs, Garmin, uh, Shammy Butter, and Oh, we get Training Peaks Yeah, yeah. And I actually heard from two people that used our code um oh good that even told me for Training Peaks premium because they love Training Peaks Virtual and the Cheapy Explore feature, which is really cool. So I wonder if anyone did that for this race. It's super cool. Yeah, okay. Now I I really do want to like do a quick recap because we do have to like I know Dylan's on the podium, we gotta go. We have to we have to get moving, but I have so many things to say. I mean, we'll talk about it again. You start because we know I can blab. Um I'm so blown away by all of this, like truly in like a a really big way. Uh there's so many different components that I find just like I get why people do it. Oh, cool. I don't get why people ride. Okay, cool. No, but I I do. I get I'm like, oh, this is it's a break from your normal like life. You get to go be around these people. Everyone just wants to be here and wants to have fun. It's cool. Like it's and not do stuff and do hard things and feel accomplished. And uh yeah, I just was like, I'm I'm just so blown away by it is really every single person that is out there doing this and like working really, really hard and is just like so incredibly nice and just wants to have a really good time. Yeah. I get it. I totally get it. I don't understand the pro side of things so much. Yeah, fair. Um pros are I also under like watching you is a whole a whole different thing that I have thoughts on, and I'm I'm proud of you in a different way than I think I I knew from before. Just watching, like I didn't see I didn't see any other pros other than the girls in your power. That's true. But you still you talk to every single person so much. Genuinely, I'm too a fault. I was like, okay, Sarah, let's fucking go. It's time. But I am genuinely interested in our experience. I know. And I was talking to a friend, Shocker, at the end of uh today's race, and today was the amateur races of all distances, and I am really stoked to see like Paige was out there, like she watched the start, she was at one of the feed zones, Ellen and Michaela. I'm sure there were the other posts. Those are just the ones that I know. Yeah they it watching, there were thousands of people starting. I mean thousands. Like I was lined up for the 50. I watched Dylan do the hundred, and like they said go, and he still like hadn't moved. And he was pretty close to the front. Yeah, there's so many people wave after wave after wave after wave of people just starting their day, 8 a.m. And then there were people lining up for the 50, and all the people for the 100 hadn't even gone past. Like, there are so many people, and I just think it's so important for pros. I hope there's some pros who listen to this podcast, but that's like I just like the inspiration behind like people's washing machine. This is the loudest house. Everything beeps, sampling sings. Samson, what are they called? Samsung Mike Samson, shout out singing his stupid fucking song. Okay, it's done. But not only not only are these people out here truly like inspirational, and like most of the time, like Leadville is like kind of the place where we see amateur racers because we're literally passing on course, which I find really inspiring. Yeah. Um, but then it's like, okay, all these like make the connection. All these people are the reasons that we get the bike industry is around. Yeah, that we get to do our job. So thank you to everyone who signed up. But also, like, truly, and I got to experience it firsthand because I lined up with the 50. Yeah, Milo, blah blah. Milo. And um, it was crazy. Like, there are there were so I I went straight to the front, like got a run row start because honestly, I didn't know anyone, and I didn't trust anyone, and I was like, I need to just get through the start because I don't know, there's so many people. Yeah, and then that gave me the opportunity to slowly fade back and see everybody. Um, and it was really special. Yeah, it was very cool. I mean, we I wasn't alone in the entire day. Yeah. Yeah. It's hung out at an aid station. Honestly, they also know what's up because like they're pushing themselves, they're doing a big day. They also get all the snacks. They stop at the aid station. There was a keg of fireball. And I had a I was given a couple shots and I did not say no. And then I we got home and I just went called. Anna and I both fell asleep watching sleepy some stupid cooking show. I have napped five times in my life. Yeah, and that was one of them. This is a nap inducing. And Bobby doesn't even have a voice. It's so funny. It's so Bobby's having the time of his life. I love watching. Anna and I were just watching him run to and fro. He just he looks so exhausted at this point. But he's just like, he wants to hug every single person that finishes. He truly, he is an extrovert. He is an extrovert. There's a lot, there's he, yeah, he's it's really cool. This isn't I it is so cool. And I do, I was also thinking about it earlier. Like, I think this is not an ad for mid-south, by the way. No, I just really I mean I've really loved it. Look at we're both worrying, I know this isn't an ad an ad for mid-south. We've like fully ducked out in merch. I do want to say this one thing, and I do feel like we should wrap it up, and then we're gonna end it on what I have to say. Oh, okay. Um, no, I mean we'll have another podcast where we actually like fully do a recap, but I was just thinking, and I um about having people come up and and talking to to both of us, like yeah, you know, I thought I was gonna have a a little bit more anonymity than I than I have um this weekend, which has actually been so you look like my sister. Well, somebody thought I was you today. This guy came up to me and he was like, we met at Unbound. And I was like, no, we didn't. But thank you so much. It's because I look like pregnant you. Anyway, um, I was just thinking about like people coming up and like wanting to say hi. And like I felt so welcomed into this community that like I don't feel like I'm necessarily a part of because I because I don't have any interest in being a part of it. I had a good question for you, and it was that go ahead. Do you want to ask it? You're answering the question I would have asked. Okay, well, great. Um, well, I better I better answer it because there's not a good chance that you're gonna ask it. Um so uh yeah, so like I don't I don't feel like I'm part of this community because it's not it's not my community. It's not like I'm not a bike, and I think in the past I would have felt a little bit more self-conscious about being at this event, but there's something so like this whole thing has been so affirming to me that like I actually don't have to change anything about like my interests or like what I'm or my body or any of the pieces to like still be accepted that's why as like a human. And I think and it's not like an exclusive thing to just me and having this podcast, like sure, there's a lot more reach, but I feel like there are a lot of people within this community that have felt really welcomed in the same way. And I and I get it, and it's affirming, and I'm like so appreciative to this community. Cool. I I love I really love to hear that because like I mean, I have not always felt that way. And not with gravel. Gravel, yes, but also I'm like, I just kind of was thrust into gravel. Yeah. And so that's a different experience than like, you know, being a participant. But I've been a participant in mountain biking specifically. And I have felt totally out of place. And it may, I mean, I remember pulling up to Trans BC and Duro. And it they ended up being a really nice group of people, but I like wanted to turn around. I didn't want to be there. And I was really intimidating. And I felt like I didn't belong. And I felt like I didn't have the coolest bike and the coolest skills and the coolest outfit and blah, blah, blah. And I'm sure people feel some version of that at some point. Because I mean, shit, all of us do. Yeah. But I will say, like, specifically this race and Unfound. Unfound is actually really similar. I know I'm ready to go to every single race with you. Big sugar, like a lot of the big gravel events are actually like this. And I say the big ones because those are the ones that started with participation. Yep. Like the pro race is truly, as it should be, secondary. And I really love the pro race being on a separate day. Yeah. I really love that because then the true event, which is the amateur race, the participant, the participatory race, is the event. Yep. Absolutely. And it and it should be. The pros, we just we have to do it. It's your job. It's our job. You're going to work. Everyone else is like choosing to do this and like puts a lot of time and money into it. Yeah. So okay. There's so much more to say, and we'll do another like. But we just wanted to pop on and say thank you. I really hate when you say that. What? I just wanted to pop on. Hey guys, I just wanted to um well we have to go. So yeah, it's time. I have to put pants on. Oh, I thought you were gonna say I have to poop. Because I gotta do. Nope, that was you. Can you stop putting that cord through your toes? Okay. Thanks, everyone. We love you so much so much. That was incredible. I really appreciate meeting everyone. And yeah, that's it. Okay, bye. So much. Okay. Bye. Bye.
