Talking Over You
Hannah and Sarah Sturm grew up in the same household, live in neighboring towns, and hang out all the time. But in one respect, they couldn’t be more different: Sarah is a professional cyclist while Hannah has spent most of her life successfully avoiding bikes at all costs. They both know that Sarah has a weird job, and Hannah isn’t afraid to ask the sorts of questions that most people in the bike world would be too embarrassed to ask. Why is there a Queen Stage but not a King Stage? How old is gravel racing? Does everyone pee in their chamois? And most importantly, why on earth would anyone choose this as a job? Join the Sturm sisters every week to hear them laugh about their vastly different careers, argue about their shared memories, and drop unfiltered takes on just about everything.

Sarah went to the doctor to discover that she is 0% dilated, so she’s been trying every method (scientific and anecdotal) to get the baby out. She was still able to watch the Tour, though, and she gives Hannah a detailed audiobook version of Sepp’s dramatic Queen’s Stage breakaway and the moment at the finish that further confirmed she doesn’t like one particular rider. Plus, they talk about tongue measurements, buck moons, and Summer House.

Welcome to Talking Over You with Sarah Sturm and Hannah Sturm. Here we go. If you're gonna be an asshole, at least be funny. At least be funny. I thought it was a man coon. We need to have like a real athlete on here. It makes me consider different careers every time I have to pee in my chamois. Comfy? No. Great. Never. Never ever. You don't get to be comfy. Ever again. Okay. A great, another great sponsor. I'm excited about this one. Um, we have the amazing Sileone wines vineyard. All things amazing. Um boy, I cannot wait to have another glass of wine. Um, C Leone.com is uh our dear friends uh Piper and Ben. Piper is the founder of Cileone, and Ben is the co-founder, and they've done an amazing job with this business. It's thriving, it's um this amazing winery where you can go and book yeah, you can book a tasting. They have like a cute little airstream tasting room. Where are they? Go ahead and say where they are. Oh, they're in Oregon. Yeah. Um so they're outside of Portland. We've been to their vineyard. Um I haven't. I'm so it's awesome. And it was very new when we went. Um, but anyway, so um Piper, it's besides Ben, the co-founder, it's all female-owned and operated, which is really cool. But like Ben doesn't totally count. I know. He's he's sort of like a honorary. He's an honorary gal. He grew up with sisters. Um, but yeah, so Piper is the owner. She found this vineyard, took it over. Um, she studied winemaking, she's an amazing business person. Um, and they make really amazing wine. And Ben did a lot of their graphic design. We were in graphic design school with him. But anyway, what you're more interested in is the wine itself. Um, and it's from a farm, 17 acres of grapes. Um, and they make their wine there. Um, Sileone is a workshop where they basically play with different varietals and grapes from Washington to Oregon. Um, and that's kind of the the brand of S Leon. Um, all of their merch, extremely cute. Very cute. Most important. Um, and it's all farmed and made organically and sustainably with minimal intervention in the winery. And it's all inspired by New World wine. And I would love to brag that I know what that means, but I was telling Piper, I was like, Hannah knows so much more about wine than I do. Yeah, New World is like uh like there's old world, old world. Old world, the new world. Old world is like France, Italy, you know, like the old world, where winemaking has been going on forever and ever and ever, and these like vineyards have been around for like I don't know, centuries? Centuries, yeah. Um whereas like New World is like America and like places that are newer and have new grapes growing. Yes. Um, and so but also can have incredible um varietals, and it looks like these guys, I was looking at their stuff. I would really like to have it in the shop, first of all. Um, that's something that I would like to have happen. Um but they have southwest. If you're if you're a points person, um a lot of their stuff has really high, scored really high with like wine enthusiasts, which is like a point system. Oh, cool. Um, and so yeah, their Pinot's look amazing. They've got some Chardonnays, they've got a rose, like it all looks incredible. And with our code Talking Over You20 um on their website, you can try a bunch of it. Because I'm not about to tell you which one to go for, because I feel like that's like picking a favorite color for the general population. Um, I think you just have to dive in and try some stuff for yourself. And it's I'm a Pinot girl. I would go Pinot. She's Pinot. Pinot Noir. Oh. Do you know what color that is? Well, Noir is night. So is it red? It's red. It is red. Oh my god. I know that was really smart. But sometimes they're like roses of Pinot Noir. Oh my god. Yeah. Um, thank you so much for seeing a gloss over that. I was like that's out of my pay grade. Um, yeah, give them a visit, go buy a bottle of wine on us, 20% off. We'll pay the other 20%. Yeah. You charge it by entering code talking over you20 and then your credit card information on their website, cleon.com. Um, thank you. Do you want to spell it? Yes, that's a great idea. S-e-a-l-i-o-n-n-e.com. C-Leon Wines, um, talking over you20. Yay, cool. Thanks. Oh, and fun fact, uh, Ben married you and Dylan. Yeah. They're real, they're great. They're my favorite people to hang around with. Yes. Um, okay. Still pregnant. Still pregnant. Look at that. You still got baby in there. I had a wild ride this morning. Did you? Tell me about it. I'm really bummed. Why? I am zero centimeters dilated, and I'm entering my 40th week of pregnancy. Yeah. I was talking to mom though on the drive over here. I was.
SPEAKER_00What did Marge say?
SPEAKER_01Well, she was like, yeah, I think Sarah's really disappointed. I was like, okay, like I get that that she's like ready to have this baby, but it's not one of the she's elbow the cactus. It's not one of the things where it's like you're disappointed because something didn't happen. You know, it's like not like a is it gonna happen or is it, isn't it gonna like it's you're going to have a baby, it just isn't gonna be today, probably and feel that. See how that's disappointing. I get that. It's weird. I know I'm not gonna be pregnant forever. I cannot explain to you how it feels like I'm going to be pregnant forever. Really? Yeah, it feels as though this is my permanent state of being. Just anticipation. That's crazy. Because I don't understand how you can't tell yourself that that's not true. I know it's not true. There's two things pregnancy is just multiple things happening that that contradict the other one at the same time. Yeah. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. Can you see this foot? Yes moving.
SPEAKER_00I can see oh my god, get it out of her.
SPEAKER_01There's an alien inside of her. Never mind, I want you to not be pregnant anymore. That creeped me the fuck out. It's like pointy. Oh my god. So you're ready to not be pregnant. Actually, that's the coolest part. That was so actually crazy. Sorry, you had like a right angle on your stomach. I know. That was insane. I know I'm so unfazed by it now. If only you could feel the fire crotch that you or no, sorry, it's called lightning crotch. It's actually called lightning crotch. Fire crotch. I'm kind of a redhead, so like I'm like, I sometimes I sort of feel that. Well, okay, so I go in. Let me paint this picture. Dylan and I both know that I'm probably not gonna be dilated. I was just having that feeling, and I was like, we had a really nice day yesterday. We went for a hike. I feel fine, other than being insanely hot all of the time. Yeah. Um, I feel fine. I feel like I'm just gonna have a baby inside of me forever. Forever. Yeah. Um, yeah, we had a great time. We went up, did this pretty gnarly technical hike. Got up to like, I don't know, 12,500. Damn. Felt fine. Fine. Trotting down. It was a little lightning-y on the way back, and we were like, run in your crotch or just like in the sky? Crotch and sky. Okay. But it was really funny. So lightning crotch is like crotch is one of the grosser words. I couldn't crotch is a terrible word. He could be like the little Devo kid that I coached 50. He's probably graduated from high school now, but he like racked himself on his bike. He was like, we were in the strider group. He like slipped off of his, you know, little pedal or whatever, and hit his garage on his top tube, and he goes, ouch, my crops. Oh my crops. And since then, I think Lauren and I were like 18 and 19 at the time and we're like, oh my crops. So you've got lightning crops. I got lightning crops up here. But it's so crazy. The baby's head is so low that it it like it like cuts off circuit, it like sends these like shooter like nerve pain. Nerve pain. Um, but it's cut it's so brief that it's almost funny because you're like, whoo! And then I can't walk for a second. And it was like, it's just all about like the position. So like sometimes like after I'm sitting for a while, I'll get up. So like we drove for like, you know, it was we hiked at Andrew's Lake, so it was like a bit of a drive. Yeah. And uh, and so the first part of the hike, I was like, ho! Yeah. And it j Dylan was just like laughing at me because I couldn't take like a step without it just like cutting up. It like goes into like your piriformis sometimes, and then sometimes it's like literally in your in your loins, in your crotch. In your crops, you're right in the crops. Lightning crops. But it was kind of funny, but yeah, it sounds hysterical. And then yeah. And last night it was like full alien creature, like we saw like elbow. Yeah, that's wild. Crazy. So then I go in, yeah. So you go today. Well, also my friend is getting induced today. So, like, that was also like I know that she's gonna have her baby soon. And I was like, Oh, we've been like a few days apart, so good luck to her at the moment. I don't want to get induced, but you know, right. I kind of get to the that you get to the point where you're like, yep, get it out of it. So when you get induced, do they give you pitocin? Is that what it is? And it just speeds things up. There's a couple of different dep well, depending. Yes. Pitocin is the thing that like really actually works. It's like synthetic oxytocin. Right, but like when people say I'm going to get induced to get to the city. I think it's pitocin. I don't think they start with cytotech. Whoa, what's that? That sounds like something in the bike industry. There's this product called Cytomax. Let's do a techie talkie. It does, in fact, make you faster. Um, yeah, it's called Cytotech. We haven't done a techie talkie in what feels like years. Truly. Yeah. Well, I could do a techie talkie about birth. Birthy birth, birth.
unknownBirthy birth.
SPEAKER_01Uh, I feel like I've learned everything you could possibly learn without experiencing it. But yeah, um, you get pitocin. And the bummer about pitocin is it can make your contractions more painful because you don't have oxytocin then coursing through your veins, which is crazy that oxytocin is such a huge part of labor and delivery because it's like the love drug, right? You know, or the love hormone or whatever. Yeah. Is that why some women have like orgasms when they oh, you've never heard about that? They have like orgasms. Great. I hope that comes across your desk. Literally, truly, yeah, it'd be great. Sure. I've never known anyone to have experienced that firsthand, but not saying it doesn't exist or it doesn't happen. Could be me. So anyway. So you went in today. Yeah, and I was like, you know, about 40 weeks. The due date's Friday. I'm not even to the due date. I really can't be complaining, but like I the last three weeks with the time suck is insane. Like in some ways, I'm really jealous of people that have to work up until they're in labor. I am. And I've talked to a couple of my friends who have done that, and they're like, yeah, last three weeks is brutal for pregnancy. Like you're just over it, and if you're bored, and I'm not even that boy, like I am doing plenty of stuff, but like in the back of my head, I'm just like, there's so few times where I'm like, wow, that day really flew by. Yeah. Okay, so what happened in your appointment? Um, so I got my first cervical check. How did that feel? Bad. Really? Super not comfortable. Well, so the reason it felt because I thought they were just gonna like boop, and then they do this little, they measure with their fingers how dilated you are. Okay. Um, or they feel they basically like insert to your cervix and then they can feel it. So there's three things the station, station is like where the baby's head is in your pelvis. Like there's all these different measurements of station. Okay. And then effacement, which is how thin your cervix is, and then also dilation. So you can be any combination of all of them, and then that gives you a score, basically. So kind of like wine enthusiast. Yeah, definitely. Or it's like your goodread score, whatever. You don't get a score on good read. Oh, I thought you did. No. Damn. I mean, no, you don't. I would love to make book reading competitive. I mean, it's competitive, you just don't get a score. It's like everyone has their like how many books they're reading in a year, and like or how many books their goal for that year and whether or not they reach it. I'm not sure I'm gonna reach my goal. I wish I just thought pregnancy took 45 weeks. What if I told you it took 42? And I know you're like, I it doesn't. Not now. Okay. So anyway, she goes in, she measures, and she was like, Okay, well, you're zero. Your score? Zero. You don't get any points, you fail completely. And I was like, oh, cool. And that really hurt, and it made I was like, oh damn. I was like, is that what it feels like every time? Because they measure you like multiple times when you're in labor. And I was like, I can't imagine having contractions and having that. And she's like, it actually gets more or less uncomfortable. She was like, but she went in, she's like, wow, the baby's so low. She was like, I can feel its head. And in my head, I'm like, grab it, grab it out of there. Just um cool, since you're already in there. If you could just give it a quick little tuck, just pull it right out, pull it out, pull it out. Yeah, I think that's not how that works, but that's okay, like the pain. I'm fancy that it doesn't work that way. Yeah, I think you want it to push itself out. Um that's crazy that she can she was like, whoa, what does that mean? So it was basically she was like, I basically to measure your cervix the way that it the baby was, it it's blocked like your cervix is pointing. She had to go around the baby. So she had to go around the back, she did it through your asshole, actually. But like she was up to her, I was like, was she up to her elbow? Around the back? Yeah. Of your cervix? Mm-hmm. No, she had to go around the baby. Cause it was I don't know. That's that's sort of how she explained it. Which now that I'm thinking about it doesn't really make sense. But I was so disappointed by zero that I didn't really listen to. Everything else was just like wow, wow, wow, yeah. And I like Dylan kept like patting my knee on the way home because I was just staring blank like that. I failed. I know I was just the race. I just was like, I just am ready. Well, it must be a good thing that its head is right there. It is like that means it's gotta be close. And she also was like, I could measure you, you could be three centimeters, and she's like, I've had women that are three centimeters for two weeks. And I was like, two weeks? Oh my god. Why did you tell me that? That's crazy. And she was like, labor is this really annoying thing that we don't really know when it starts until you are have had the baby, and then we can look back. What isn't that insane? There's so much about women's health, specifically about pregnancy and birth and labor that we know so little about. One, because I think that it's just not studied, yes, and two, I think it's just truly different for every single woman and baby. I did see a really funny meme that was like, um, studies say men find women who wear less makeup more attractive. And so it was like, cool, can we study endometriosis now? Cool study though. Oh, it's so yeah. How does that get funding? I don't, it's not, it's yeah, so stupid. Um, so I'm at the point, like, you know, I have a lot of like regular customers, and so are they asking? Oh god, every single person um is coming in and going, baby, no baby? Um, but you're like, if I'm here, no baby. Yeah, yeah, no, truly, every single person's like, so your sister's still really pregnant, really pregnant. I went to the grocery store today after, and the guy, a different grocery store, not even the one that I go to once a week. Yeah. I went there and he was like, Oh, you're still pregnant.
unknownMm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Zero percent. I got a zero to the failed.
SPEAKER_02I failed.
SPEAKER_01Um, but one of my one of my customers was she was like, Well, when's the next full moon? And I was like, Really good. Good point. It's Wednesday. It's a buck moon. What does that mean? It means you have to name your baby Buck. No. It does not. Uh, it just means that it's Should we dive deep into your past? Let's not. Um, I'd really rather not. I was like, Am I gonna say what kind of moon it is? Because I know what Sarah's gonna say. And I decided to go for it. Anyway, the reason it's called a buck moon. Oh my god, Sarah, stop showing me what its foot is doing that. Wait, pull your shirt up so I can see. Can you see toes? Are there five? Ow. Oh my god. I'm gonna show you again. Okay. It's it gross me out. It does also gross me out. I just felt my belly button the other day for the first time. It's just really soft.
unknownOh.
SPEAKER_01It feels like your lips.
SPEAKER_00My lips specifically.
SPEAKER_01When I feel your lips. When you touch my lips like you like to. Anyway, the buck moon, uh, it just is the full moon when like deer start. When the babies come out, deers start growing their antlers like around that time of year, of year. But it beats the hell out of having your baby on the corn moon. Or the blue blood moon. Blue blood, blue blood, the blue blood. Uh yeah, my one of my uh hippier friends, who I'm sure you can guess, uh, was like, moon your belly. I'm sorry? What do you you just do I'll moon your belly?
SPEAKER_00We'll see if that works.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you almost oh honestly, I almost no, I didn't almost go into labor either of these things. It's just a funny thing to say, but I'm never gonna go into labor, so I don't know why I keep joking about it. Uh, but I was talking to I've been watching the Tour de France stages at night, like waiting the whole day, because we uh we don't we don't have time in the mornings, and so I've been avoiding my phone. Yeah, and but I was talking to my coach, Dennis, and I was like, don't tell me. I haven't watched today's, it was um the second to last stage of the tour, and it was incredibly exciting. So I will tell you about it. Okay, yeah, I'll tell you about it. But he was like, ooh, ow. Sorry, just had my hand. He was like the last 15k, he was like, might put you into labor, and I was like, Great. Oh my god. Are we hoping into it? I mean, we can. Let's uh uh yeah, I mean, I assume that's what you want to talk about. Sure. I mean it's stuck. I have literally nothing else going on. I've told you about my cervix being zero, and that's all I have. You want to hear what I've got going on? Sure. Uh nothing. But uh Jeff and I went hiking and looking for mushrooms yesterday. Um, there aren't any yet, but there will be because we're actually getting rain. Um, but the last the night before, he made this really incredible like Syrian dip. Um, I can't remember what it was called, and it was delicious, so fucking spicy. That would have put you into labor. It put me into labor. We were we were driving and I was uh like after the hike going to our mushroom spot, and I was like, hey, I think you need to pull the car over. I'm gonna shit in the car. Like I got I'm gonna have this baby right here. Oh my god. Emergency fire poops on the side of the road. It was ring of fire. Oh my god. Yeah, we didn't find incredible. We did spicy Thai food one day. Is spicy supposed to oh my gosh, all of it's I should have brought you this stuff. It I don't I don't actually the heartburn that it would give me is not worth it. And I think it's uh an old wives tale for labor. Yeah, what are all of the things that people say to do to put to put you in curb curb walking? So a little curb stomping. A little curb stomp. What? So you like if picture you're like walking down the street and there's a curb to your right, you're like walking, your right foot is on the curb and your left foot is on the street. Okay. That's right foot specifically? No. You're just supposed to walk on the curb. What? And I was like, okay, well, we just did like a super gnarly hike yesterday. Like, that's gotta be more than curb walking. But then Dylan was like, well, maybe it has to do with like tilting your pelvis. Yeah. But I'm also like going to the gym and doing deep squats and lifting with weight. Like, I'm like, is that not? I think that's holding it in. At this point, I'm like, I think all the stuff I've been doing is just keeping this thing in. Okay, what else? What are the other things? Um and then these are all the old wives' tales. So like I don't think it actually works. Spicy food. Okay. Um I should have brought you some of that stuff. Raspberry leaf tea. Yep. Dates. Oh primrose oil doing all of that. Okay. Um dates. Love dates. Uh sex with semen. Sex with semen. Gone semen. I just your baby's so close to your cervix, right? It's weird if dilemma just came on its head.
SPEAKER_00And he's got a keep pop. A gum keep up. So we're sitting too little dead for the Jewish listeners.
SPEAKER_01So we're sitting. I'm just so unfazed by all of it at this point. We're like, in she's just measured my cervix. Dylan is sitting behind me, has never been in that sort of appointment ever. That was the first time that they even have like inspected me. Yeah. Um, truly. Yeah. Uh, and she was like, okay, well, you guys, she said it. I was so disappointed with the zero centimeters again. I was in like, didn't even react. And she was like, well, you could try having sex. And I was like, is there anything else? What's actually, you know what? I'd rather stay pregnant. And she was like, Yeah, that's usually how people feel.
unknownReally?
SPEAKER_01But but and what's another option? Uh next.
unknownNope.
SPEAKER_01More dates? Honestly, if it were the winter, I would feel differently. It's so hot. It's so hot. I have like 17,000 pillows around me because I can't. Oh my god. I almost peed in our bed though from laughing so hard because I went to Dylan was like on his phone and I like went to like shift positions, which you have to do a thousand times. And there was like a we have like the world's sturdiest bed. It's like a 7,000-pound wooden bed frame that we made. I like went to move and there was like a slight cracking stuff.
SPEAKER_00And he was like, Jesus free willing. I got the giggles so bad that I kind of gave myself a super stuffy note. I got the super good chest. And they had to like push me up. I was like on all fours laughing. And I was like so hot and sweaty and crying.
unknownOh my god.
SPEAKER_01Oh my god, it was so insane. Wow. And I didn't come to labor. It was like the loudest crack sound. Oh my god. But also, I weigh less than Dylan's. Could you imagine doing any of this stuff without a sense of humor? No. No. I was before our appointment last week, I was like, maybe if I sprint, I'll go into labor. Try that. I would love to watch you sprint. Dylan was like, I was just waiting for you to sprint. He was like, I was just like waddling. Deb, I want to watch you sprint. I think we should, I think we should try every single one of the wives' tales today. Okay. I think that'd be really fun. We'll put it on our Patreon that doesn't exist. Our OnlyFans. Our OnlyFans. Yeah, you just have to do your curb stomping but without the shoes on, and I'll touch your lips.
SPEAKER_00I'll like, I'll touch, I'll touch my lips to your belly button. See what you're saying is actually unhinged.
SPEAKER_01I think we say that every single week.
SPEAKER_00I think it's getting worse. I know I love it.
SPEAKER_01I've been waiting for you to care less. Well, here we are. We have Sileon as our sponsor of this episode. So you're a little less worried about losing all your sponsorships.
unknownTotally.
SPEAKER_01Great. Oh gosh. Then it can be open it up. But we did say something about a kumpa. Yeah. So I think I think we're there. I think we have arrived. Oh my god. Um, but yeah, I'm like trying to throw a story up on Instagram every day so I don't get five million text messages. But then what happens? Which I also do appreciate from like people. Most of my friends is excited. I bet my location is getting so many pings these days. What does that mean? Like so many people are looking to see like the other day for your friends who attract you. Yeah, Roscoe's in France at the moment. Like he's waiting for the women's tour to start. And he was like, Oh, so you're still a gym bro? And I was like, You look at my location. He was like, Yeah. Yeah, sure am. I also look at your location. Yeah, Ellen, Sophia, everyone. Everyone's checking up on you. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I mean, I have customers who stop in specifically just to ask if you've had a baby. Damn. Yeah. People are, I'll have to check in with City Market guy. I had a customer who she doesn't live and she comes once a year. Um, and she came this last weekend and she was like, Do you remember me? And I was like, Yes, I remember you have beautiful skin. Anyway, um, she we were talking, her daughter-in-law is pregnant, and we were talking about you, and and she was like, Does she know what she's having? And I was like, No, she doesn't. And she was like, Well, let me see a picture of her and I'll tell you what she's saying. She said, A boy. Oh, God, again, I had a dream finally about a baby. It was like uh probably like a couple months old. Okay. And it was uh a girl. Okay, and I told Dylan in the dream, I said, I think we have to name her Scarlet. Like I think she's more of a Scarlet. But then there were two babies all of a sudden. And then they were also puppies. And then they were puppies, so I don't know. It was a girl baby turned into a little boy puppy. Yeah, I have no idea. That's crazy. Okay. Love that you had a dream. I know, finally. But then the baby had a rash, and I was like, this looks suspicious. And I remember like feeling this like weird anxiety of like babies got a rash, yeah, not knowing what to do. I know, and my the midwife this morning, she was like, I hate to say this, but this is good preparation for parenthood. Because I was like, I just wanted to be here. She's like, I know. Yeah. Patience. Yeah, it seems to have the patience of Dylan. So that's really disappointing for me. Either that or it's just as like lazy like it's auntie. I think every like I've been not that I've ever in my life been into horoscopes, but we're having a Leo. So for those of you who are interested in horoscopes, we're having a Leo baby. Do you what did you what'd you read? What'd you find out? They're like kind of like tricksters, and they're that's all I remember. Got it. Okay. Alright. Uh-huh. Okay, tell me about bikes. I know we have a song. I'm on them, but the men's tour ended yesterday. Oh, it did? Yes. And I have to wait a whole fucking week for the women's tour to start. It could be perfect timing, though. No, it's bad timing. I need entertainment right now. Because you're gonna be stuck. You're also gonna need entertainment when you're just nursing a baby and super bored, just like Yeah, but I feel like those first few days. Anyway, I feel like it should have just been this week. Damn it. Tour de femme. Anyway, um, the final climbing stage. So the the end of the the men's tour always ends at the Champs Champs lysees. Champs Champs lysees. Okay. The like iconic street in Paris with the cobbles and the blah. Sure. And usually it's like a sprinter stage, and the last two years it's been a circuit. Anyway, so it but there's all this like weird stuff that happens on the last day. So like second to last day is usually like a really big day. And this year was the most fucked up second to last, like the most fucked up stage of the tour. Why? Uh history. Historically, 14 history, history, history, can you believe it? Um, it was like the hardest stage that there ever ever did exist in the tour. Um, and there was 14,000 feet of climbing in one day. That sounds like how much is how much is there normally? I knew you were gonna ask that. There's like climbing stages that will have like, I don't know, eight to ten. Okay, which is a ton, but yeah, it's a lot, but this thing was like a behemoth. And it's after three weeks of racing. And anyway, I'm gonna spare you all the details because I feel like it just takes a long time. Um, but our Durango friend, Sepp, yeah, uh, was is basically like the perfect candidate for a day like that. Like he just loves like pure climbing days. Like he's just a natural at those moments. Um, and sure enough, they he's in the front, he's leading, like it's it's so much back and forth, and we have Pogachas working for his little baby, and um, but he's also not really like he wasn't really like hunting, you know, the wind down like you normally watch him do. But anyway, so there's like all these components happening, and Sepp is leading, he's with three other three other guys, and then they drop, and then one other attacks, and anyway, they've made it through most of the climbing, and Sepp has attacked, and he's off the front, and they're coming through the Alp Duez, and it's this they had raced up the other side of it the day before. Like, it is an insane stage, and he's he's in the lead, but only by like 10 or so seconds on uh Richard Carapaz, who's in the polka dot jersey, who's a really fun racer to watch because he actually What makes him fun? And you're gonna ask that. I've I've read a couple of s things that does he make funny faces? No, he's just like if you watch the tour, you would see like he's just really animated. Like you can tell he's like they call him a romantic racer because like you roll your eyes. I know you guys hear the eye roll. I I'm gonna defend it. There's like race radios, and there's so like he just you can tell he's like reacting from like the feeling of everything. Like he's just like he's like an emotional racer, and he like the way he attacks, it's like really dramatic. It doesn't look robotic. Like in a world of robots, he's a human, a human, and he's like a little is he Ecuadorian? Anyway, he's cool. Okay, polka dots. Okay. He's chasing Sep down. Uh-huh. Um, he's won a stage. Uh he's won a stage. Sep also got really close in another stage, and they both seem like really nice people. Love that. And I know Sep is a really nice person. So we're watching him. He's like done all the climbing, he starts descending, and then all of a sudden the camera cuts to him, crashed on the side of a curb outside of a tunnel. Like there's a couple little descents as you go through this town right before the finish. Is he curb stepping? He was curbing. He was trying to get that baby out. But you're like, oh my well, he did curb step, but he was fine, like, and then he was up, and we're like, what the fuck happened? And the announcers were like, he must have gone down in the tunnel, like the cameras couldn't see. So he gets up and he's like, you know, fine, but you're like, oh my god. And then he has this like kind of gnarly descent, like short, but like fast open descent. And you're, you know, Sep is an amazing bike ride. Like, he's won huge races in his career. And anyway, and so you see him get back on his bike. The time, the time gap didn't go down that much. Like, Carapaz is still like 15 seconds behind him. And you're like, okay, sweet. There's like the rest of this little descent, and then there's there's like a steep kicker to the finish. And we know Sep is really good at jump. Uh, sorry. And then they do. And then they jump. And they jump. Well, wish they would. Would be fun to watch. Sep kind of did. Uh-oh. So you see him get back on his bike, he's descending, and then he cuts this turn, this right-hander turn, and you're in the like it looks like Silverton times a thousand. Like, cool. They're in these insanely beautiful mountains in front. Like, it's amazing. And uh also just these sheer cliffs and sheer drop-offs. Yeah. And Sep just like cut this corner super tight for some reason, probably because he was so like just fried, fried from climbing, and then had that crack, like a little bobble. Like it's really hard to get your bearings back. And it was right after crashed in the tunnel? Sep crashed in the tunnel. Oh, sorry. I thought he's leading. I thought the other guy passed. Yeah. No, he was chasing still. So Sepp crashes in the tunnel, gets back on. He's still leading, is going around this turn, and you watch him take kind of a weird line, and you're he's like saving it, saving it, saving it, hits the retaining wall. Oh no. And tips, he's scooting on his butt on this retaining wall, clipped into his bike still, and thank God there's a fucking net that the uh race had put up for safety because there's like a 500-foot drop on the other side. So I we're sitting there and I was like, oh my god, we're gonna watch Sep die. Luckily, you're watching this in the evening when it's already happened and you're like, I would have found out about I I thought that, but I literally the entire day I avoided the internet. Like I didn't even touch my phone. I put it in on Do Not Disturb. Oh, really? Yes, I didn't want people texting me. You really wouldn't have known. I really wouldn't have known. So we're like, holy I mean, I think uh Dennis would have told me. Yeah, but I didn't think about that like in the moment, but yeah. I was like, oh my god, and he stopped right before the fence ended. Oh my god. And like even the announcers were just like almost silent because we were like, what are we watching? What are we watching? What are we watching? Holy shit. And then as he's like, he like finally stops like sliding along this like retaining wall, Carapaz comes past and he like passes him, Sep gets back on, and then he's chasing Carapaz. Uh-huh. And for the win. And like this is like the win of this stage specifically. It's like the most iconic win of the entire tour. Damn. So like a lot is on the line. Yeah. Um, because at first I was like, why didn't he? But I'm sure he asked if like he saw that he was not falling off the cliff edge. Oh my god. It was it was nuts. So then Carapaz is leading, uh-huh. Sep is losing more and more time, um, and then uh a couple of the other guys like are catching Sep, and then Remco ended up passing him at the very end, but you know, for second place. So then the romantic didn't win? The romantic guy did win. Oh, but okay. Sorry. Carapaz passed him. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But who did Remco get second then? And then Sep got Yeah, Remco basically sprinted Sep to the line. But but then Sep finishes and he's such a I mean, he had later said he was like, Yeah, you just have so much adrenaline because people are like, uh, are you okay? And he was like, you know, that that's you know, racing, and he was such a gracious sportsman. Like it was it really was so impressive to watch Sep do these like interviews afterwards and like talk about Carapaz, and you can tell he's so well loved in the Peloton. He has this like nickname, like GC Coos, because like uh basically he's always working for Jonas. Um because Jonas was crashed out, or like basically when Jonas isn't the GC guy, people are like, yeah, Sep gets a chance. Cool. Um, but also Sep doesn't really, he's like said in interviews in the past that he doesn't want to be the GC guy, right? He's so like chill and just a good dude. But he was like, Yeah, that's just like how it goes, you know. I was just on the rivet, and he was like, I knew Kari Paz was right behind me, and I just overcooked a couple of those turns, and he was like, Yeah, it's crazy. He was like, I do want to apologize to my wife and family watching. Oh I was like, yeah, it was so Dylan and I were like, Oh my god, you did a really good job describing that. I felt like I was there. I like could picture all of the things. I can't wait to show you the clip. I feel like I well, I so when I log into the pot the podcast Instagram, yes, they're like, No, I didn't see it. I I purposely don't look at anything because I'm like, I'd rather have Sarah just like describe it to me. That was crazy and I did not see it. Like I saw that there was something that went on and Steph was involved, but I didn't see any of anything. I had no idea. I do have some shit to talk on Remco. This part, okay, the not hot one. Not hot. I I can't remember if I said no. No, I just asked if he was hot and you said no immediately. And then you said I'm just like kind of turned off by his personality. Oh, gosh. And even more so now. Let's hear it. What do you do? He he he got second in the tour. Spoiler. Um in the whole this comes out two weeks after the thing, you're fine. Um, I don't care. Um, so he but he also got second on this stage, and it was it was such an insane like at that point, Remco probably had no idea what transpired. Like, he didn't. He had just crossed the line, and like I'm gonna give him like a little bit of grace. Like, it is okay to be disappointed with second place. I get that, sure. You see him come across, he had just outsprinted Sep, who had, you know, had whatever he had just had, and and you see his staff, like they come running up to you once you finish, and he there was like this little quick social media clip of him like kind of getting pissed at his staff for being excited about second place, and he said, This is nothing to celebrate, like don't celebrate my second place, and he was being kind of a little bitch about it. And I was like, Ugh, I hate you. Don't be rude to the people who are working really hard, totally, and this is this is my like I get that you're also working hard, but like, yeah, they don't even get any of the like guts and glory, you know. Like, no, totally that also like let them, let them ew, ew. Actually, I hate that more things I hate, uh, yeah, everything at the moment, but I was like, ew, poo-poo attitude, especially compared to little Sep. Yeah, well, Sep was probably just like stoked he's alive. So honestly, he's like, oh Sept, that's pretty great. Every interview was Sep. And he was sort of like this, like I mean, over like 15 years ago when we were on the same team, he was just always like, Do you know where you are, Sepp? He also was like a teenage kid at that point. Well anyway, uh, but he's still kind of like he's just like a really nice guy, so it's hard to compete with that. And I'm giving again, like, I get it. Like he does, you don't have to, I've been disappointed with second place and third. Like, I get that, but like don't don't make other people have like your same disappointment if they're happy about it. Totally. Did you see this? Reminds me, did you see the world did you see shh uh did you see the World Cup clip um of them fighting? No, I didn't see that. Oh uh that's not what I was saying. No, of like um I think in just like in years past of like all of the teams who lost the final, so got second, like they get medals, but then they immediately take them off, and they're all just like you know, like it's all it's dramatic. Argentina didn't watch Spain's medal ceremony. Oh, I didn't see that, but they turned very much. What I was gonna say is that uh for Argentina, like all of them took off their second place medals, except for Messi. Oh, good job, Messi. Yeah, so I was like, okay, it kind of reminds me of this whole thing. Yeah, that well, they got reprimanded by uh FIFA um because they didn't watch. Well, they were naughty. They were they were a team of Remcos. They were just being little bitches, like they got in fist fights, like they were fighting Spain, and like I mean, is like and this is where it's like, do we really think that men are less emotional than women? No. Anger is an emotion, yeah. Anger is an emotion. Less emotion. No, no, sorry. I was already on to I was trying to think of something else to say, but yeah, I totally agree. No, they're very emotional. So emotional. I mean, part of me is like, I like that they just like there's there's so many clips from the tour where like, you know, they catch these moments between two writers where like there was one where one guy was like patting another dude, and he was like, you could see him saying, I'm sorry, and then the other guy was like, Oh, didn't really give him the time of day, and was like kind of like still pissed about whatever had happened, and then they were both interviewed after. And the guy that was like still kind of pissed, he was like, Oh yeah, so and so did something during the race and it pissed me off. But like it was really nice that he came up and he was like, Hey, I'm really sorry. And there's like this like mutual respect, and that that part of sport, okay, but the final yesterday's stage was fucking insane. It was so exciting to watch. Really? It was the coolest, like the last two days of the tour was so much more exciting than all of the other weeks. I've heard from two more people that we say two are weird. Oh god, I know. I think about it. What are we supposed to say? They these are Tur Tor. No, incorrect. They're all from the East Coast, so I don't know. Take it with a grandfather. Twilight. I don't I can't. I'm not I'm not gonna say it. Thanks for keeping for calling me out again. Well, I hear it, but I also say it. They also probably say uh tournament, and I'm not gonna say tournament. Well, I just learned how to say cervix. That's oh, Jeff said something super fucking funny about you today. Great. Yeah, he was making a he was making a funny about you. I can't remember what he said. He was making he was making fun of you. Cool. Can't wait to hear that. It's really good to make fun of pregnant people. You're easy. Um okay, tell me about the stage from yesterday. It was nuts. So it was like that circuit that I was telling you. Champs lysees. Oh, that sounded great. There it is. Phew. And you said it. You said it with some confidence. Yeah. I felt it. Um I felt confident. Still probably wrong, but yeah, definitely. It's it so it just does this circuit race, and it was the shortest stage of the tour. Um, it was like 50 miles or something. Anyway, so it was meant for excitement, which is kind of a cool way to finish because usually it's just this like this parade where like the the points. Um I think after a certain amount of time in the race, they cut off like basically all the jerseys uh stays. Have it decided. Yes. So like nothing like in in terms of like it's usually like a day for the sprinters or like just like an exciting day for racing, and it's like a one-day classic. Anyway, and it was that. Um, and usually the yellow jersey doesn't really go for any part of it because they have the yellow, they celebrate with their team, they usually cross the line with champagne glasses. It's like kind of chill but not chill for some. Um, and this year and last year was like the same circuit race that really encourages bike racing. Uh for it could kind of be anyone, it's not just for the sprinters, which is kind of cool. Okay. Um, because there's climbs and anyway, blah blah blah. I think I feel like you're gonna have to like really get to the point because I feel like I can only listen to one race recap fully. Okay. So we're the like they're going through like these windied, windy ass, cobbled streets of Paris. Okay. So it's a really sick backdrop. Yeah. And you see, like it's it's literally just like a strip of cobbles with the bike race and then just a mass of crowd the entire fucking time. So like the energy, like people are just screaming, the photos are so sick. Like, it's like the polka dot jerseys and the yellow, and like people are just like they're lighting those little like smoke bomb things. Like, it's such a cool, and there's like all these old buildings in the background. It's such a like artistically, like the photography that's come from it is really cool, really cool. And fast forward the whole race, like, there's all these attacks going, and Vanderpool, which is Dylan's look-alike, uh-huh. Yep. Um, he and Pogacha are like off the front, and they're like arguably the two most powerful like riders in that Peloton at the at that point. Um and you're just watching them turn themselves inside out, trying to stay away from like this peloton of other very strong bike racers, but they can all like they're trying to get like reeled back in, they're on like circuit or the lap number two of three or something. So it's like this really exciting race. So you see Vanderpol attack like they they get away. Vanderpol in the yellow jersey. Doesn't it not really matter? The stage win is so like stage wins are very, very important in the tour. Okay, so it does it doesn't matter for like think of it as like a one-day really important race. Got it. So no, it doesn't matter for Pagatcha, but he just likes bike racing. He just loves to crazy. I know that's so weird, but it is like he's just like a little kid. It's really funny watching him like be this the greatest cyclist of all time because he looks like my friend Steven. Do you remember so much? Yes, I he he has the same energy, exactly like him. He he is Steven Davis. Shout out. Crazy. They have like truly truly looks the same. I know he's like Slovenian Steven. Um so they're off the front. And last year, Paga or last year Pagac was beat by Wout Van Art, who's also like the most favorite by the hot one? He's the hot one. He's the hot one, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Not Vanderbilt, the one who looks like Dylan. I think he did this last year too. I know.
SPEAKER_01I it's just the way that it sounds. I think Vanderbilt honestly, I think Dylan is more attractive than Vanderbilt. And I know you said that exact same thing last year. You're retracing. Uh-huh. You know, whatever. Whatever. Anyway. So you're just watching this like cat and mouse game happening. You're like, oh my god, are they gonna make it to it's one of those scenarios where you're like, are these two gonna make it to the line before they get absorbed by the Peloton? And the final shot, oh you're like watching, because also the camera compresses really weird, you know, when it's just like the straight-on image, and they look a lot, but they were, they were showing the aerial, and they were like, oh my god, they're gonna get caught. And then you watch Vanderpool launches this gnarly. He's also been working way harder the whole race. Like his effort at the end of this race was truly so inspiring to me. Like, it was insane. I was Did you get to see a Strava? Uh probably. Do they post do they published his power for the like his one-minute power on the last attack? Let's do a techie talkie on power and stuff. It's not gonna be today, but I don't I just I'm already gonna fail. I don't know what any of that shit means. Okay. Anyway, so he launches. They're they're about to get absorbed by this massive school of fish. Got it. And you just like are watching it in the background, you're like, go, go, go, go, go, go. And then you see Vanderpol like gives one last effort, and you you know he's already like on the fucking line. Like he can't go any harder, and somehow he did. And Pagatcha gets absorbed by this huge Peloton, and and then they're getting closer and closer to Vanderpol, and they're at the line, and Vanderpol's teammate, Philipson, who's a pure sprinter, starts catching up to Vanderpol, and then you're like, oh my god, is he gonna get caught by his own teammate? Are they allowed to do that? Yeah, they're allowed to, but then Vanderpol, so then all of a sudden, he's in this situation where he's been in the attack the entire day, basically, and now he's having to sprint against people who've just been sprinters and their sprinters. But then you see his teammate kind of magically time all this is what incredible athletes they are. At the line, he knows exactly how hard to go to get second place and just stopped pedaling at the very most perfect moment and points at Vanderpol, who does a bike throw. I bet it was a cool picture. It was insane. I have goosebumps. It was made my nipples hard.
SPEAKER_00And it just touched your hip bone and her collarbone. My nipples.
SPEAKER_01Anyone, and then he was so fucked he couldn't even like steer his bike. He like steered into this fence and just was in fetal position. Oh my god. And he and his partner just announced they're having a baby girl. Oh, that's sweet. And so he said something very nice about like he was doing it for his girls. Blah blah blah. Cute. Wow. It was crazy. That does sound crazy. It actually, like, I I'm very hormonal and so bored, but I was like, uh, this is that made me want to continue bite grace. Like the just like seeing like it was just such a good reminder that like you just some wins you really just have to fight so hard for. Like it doesn't come easily to anyone. Yeah. And I really like I appreciate Pagatcha because he was like talking about like how he it's really hard because like you watch him race and you're like, oh my god, he's just so bored. Like no one else can even keep up with him. But that's why he loves doing like those, you know, those moments. Yeah, it makes so much sense. Anyway, I'm super done talking about the tour. Me too. Actually, it could go on for another week. I think it should be done. Oh, gosh, good thing this is a sports podcast. I know. I still like how did I get how did I get wrangled into this to where we have to I do have to talk about sports stuff. Well, you don't. Well, that's true. I just get to sit and listen. And today did feel a little bit like an audiobook, and I liked that. That was fun. Like I could like visualize all the things. You did do a nice job describing everything. I can't wait to show you the clips. It's pretty cool. Yeah, I feel like I've already seen them, so honestly, I we could just skip that. I just want to see how close I did. Have you been um watching or reading or listening to anything good? What? Yes, I have been. What? We finished Widow's Bay, okay. That show is super fucking weird. Really? I give it a nine out of ten. Wow. A really weird mix of being like really weirdly funny, but also really scary. I'm out. Not for me. There's some episodes that were like jump out like clown scary. Ugh. That's my nightmare. But then it's kind of this like funny, irreverent, like sense of humor where you're just like, I thought it was hysteria. You would love one of the characters. It's so they probably die. No, they don't. Okay. It actually it gets it, it gets significantly less scary as it goes on. Yeah, it's still. But there is one episode where like I just I don't like the the female being chased by scary masked male. Yeah. And there's one of but it they do a really good job of making it all really funny. So it it's like this weird. I just can't do it. Like I'm trying to like lower my cortisol, you know? Like I don't know. I couldn't sleep after those episodes. Yeah, I know. And then what did I just text you about last night? The Dan Levy um Oh yeah, bad mistakes or what's it called? Big mistakes. Super funny. I think I started watching it. It felt a little too scary for me. What? Oh my god, Hannah. Wait, tell me the premise, and I'll tell you if that's actually remember. Um oh, he's a pastor and his sister is a teacher, and she takes this like necklace that then gets buried with their grandmother. Yes. But they're all like the characters, it's like uh there's like three siblings and a mom, and all these characters just kind of yell to communicate at each other, and Dylan was like, This is stressing me out. I think it also stressed me out. It is it, but it gets really, really good. I think he's really funny, so he is so funny in this. Yeah, it's quite good, and we powered through all of those last night. So I haven't been watching anything other than reality. I finished Summer House, so I'm fully caught up. How do we feel about Amanda and Kyle? Whoa, that was and West. Yeah, crazy or West. I I think it's West. It's West. I know it is because every time they say with a T. Every time they say it, I'm like, it should be Wes. He looks like a West, not a West. Um, what a crazy love square. Because there's a bunch, there's another it's with Sierra. Oh my gosh. Honestly, all of them need to just find Amanda so boring. They just it was such a bad relationship, and they needed to they needed to just divorce and then just be single. They actually needed to not ever get married. Truly, truly. I it was crazy because he was such a bad husband to her, and then she went and dated or is still dating a friend. It's just it's all it's a mess, but like all yucky. It was so like it was so like tumultuous that it then took away like then people are not paying attention to how bad of a fucking husband. It just all of it's a mess. It I'm over it. Why do why do you like it? I d I don't I don't know. I think it makes me feel really good about myself where I'm like, I have no drama. I think that that's I have no drama. Yeah, and like I it just you can see through everything where you're like that's such unhealthy communication that it's entertaining, you know, like it doesn't feel like real life because these people are just I think a lot of it is like these people make so much money on these shows. They do, they make so like Lindsay, Lindsay and their brands, but also through the show, like they get they get paid. Like there's a reason that Lindsay l lasted so long on that show because she gets paid. I think still does. She's on the next season, yeah. Fucking crazy. I know it's so crazy. But they I think a lot of it is sort of like a version of is it method acting? Like they're acting. Totally. Like they know what they have. Yeah, yeah, they they have to be like confrontational, they have to like be entertaining. At but at like what cost? You know, the cost is that like they completely ruin their reputation and they and they know my only like sampling of that was uh one of the first years of the lifetime grand prix when they were doing that like that reality show version of us. Oh, yeah. And Sophia really got pinned as like the villain. I mean, she did say a lot of the stuff. She said what she said. She did say what she she say what she said, but it did get edited in a way. Like they made her the villain a hundred percent. Yeah, um you but you uh you came out of that looking pretty good. Yeah, I feel like they made me like the dumb. They did make you seem a little dumber than you are. Yeah. And I was like, oh, that sucks. Oh but you did seem like a good time. I was, and then you are. Yeah, oh my gosh. Last night I went out to dinner in Rico with uh a bunch of girlfriends. There were like seven of us there, and we like all carpooled there. And what's in Rico? Is it that one place that has glass in their hamburgers? No, it's a prospector, it's a new spot, newish spot. It's good, it's really good. Um, we had such a fun dinner. I I was thinking about it afterward, but I was like, God, that was there. And you talk about what's going on in your lives, and like, you know, it's it's enjoyable and fun. It this was not that. This was like, we didn't talk about anything that was going on in anyone's lives. It was just silly and funny and I actually like that more. Oh, we laughed our asses off at one point. I hate I've decided I hate catching up with people. Oh, I like I like that, but this was great because it was not that. At one point, we were um seeing who had the longest tongue. It's like a high school friendship. It was totally where you're like, my favorite color is this. It was just we went around the the table and everyone like because these are like friends that we've made as adults, so like we didn't know each other, we're all from different places, and uh it was finding out what everyone's extracurricular activities were in high school was really funny because it was like, yep, of course you did 40 things. There were a couple of theater girls in there. I was like, damn, I just smoked pot and had sex with my boyfriend. Snuck him into your room. I don't know. That's what I did for extracurriculars. You did a lot. Anyway, it was really fun. But the tongue measuring, let me see your tongue. How long no, we did it like this. You have to stick it out like ah, pretty short. You would definitely have not have won. The girl who won, we all went, whoa. It was it was incredible. Oh gross. Yeah, it was awesome. That sounds fun. It was really fun. You would have you would have liked it a lot. We had a great time. I know. You texted me, you're like, do you think you're gonna go into labor? And I was like, nope. The whole time I was like, I do want Sarah to have her baby. I don't want her to have it today because I have plans and I'm looking forward to them. Don't worry. Well, we do need to look at that uh that betting pool that we did. I know, I was thinking about that. I think not knowing, I can't remember which I but I have a feeling I bet on Wednesday. I think the blue blood moon. Which is yes, no, is the buck moon. I know. Um, I think not knowing that that was the full moon, I think that's when I got it. God, you're just so spiritual. We should finish this up so that we can go watch we're gonna go to the movies. Lily, we're gonna go see. Um, did you see that Lily posted about the invite that's the movie that we're gonna go see? Oh, is that what it's called? And she was like, it's so funny. Oh, yeah. She said that people um that she went to like other people in the theater were laughing, and she was like, and people in the UK like don't laugh. Don't laugh in the theater.
