Before You Give Up

When momentum stalls and doubt gets loud, where do you aim your attention? We open up about a fresh project that didn’t match the picture in our heads, then trace a path from discouragement to clarity using Scripture. The heart of the conversation is David’s choice to strengthen himself in God at a breaking point, and how that same move can reset our mindset before we touch another tactic.
We explore why small beginnings are not a mark of failure but a sign of God’s delight, drawing on Zechariah 4:10 to redefine early traction. From there, we unpack how God often works through what seems insignificant to the world, echoing 1 Corinthians 1:27–29, and why that upside-down wisdom invites us to surrender our timeline without surrendering our effort. Seasonality matters, too: Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that growth unfolds in its appointed time, which changes how we plan, measure, and rest. Luke 16:10 grounds the practice piece—faithfulness with little is training for more.
Throughout, we return to Psalm 32:8 as a promise of guidance—God instructs, teaches, and watches over us—so we can take the next right step without spiraling into comparison. Expect a blend of story, scripture, and practical wisdom you can apply today: short pauses that interrupt negative loops, a fresh lens for setbacks, and a hopeful way to keep showing up. If this encourages you, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a lift, and leave a quick review to help others find the show. What small step will you take this week?

If you're someone who started something new, implemented a plan, an idea, a business, a new project, and it's not going the way you envisioned, I want to encourage you to stay the course. Don't give up. If you're new here, you're listening to Whole Heart Conversations, a podcast that's especially for women to provide biblical encouragement that fosters resilience through the practical application of God's Word. I'm your host, Constance Lavonice. I recently started a project, and it's not going the way I envisioned it at the moment, and I was starting to go down a path of disappointment and moving toward discouragement. And in the midst, the Lord reminded me of this scripture. David encouraged himself in the Lord his God. At the time, David was running from King Saul, who was seeking to kill him. And David had a, it was a large amount of men who were following him. And David was actually getting ready to fight to join the Philistines in fighting against the Israelites. But when they got back, actually they were not allowed to fight with the Philistines. They didn't trust him because they knew that he had been loyal to King Saul. And so they told David and his men to leave. And when David and the men returned to where they were living, they found that it had been burned and the women, their wives and children, had been taken and captured. And the men started to think about stoning David. And the scripture says, but David strengthened himself or encouraged himself in the Lord his God. So I took a break, and after I read over that scripture, I asked God to speak to my heart. And he encouraged me with several scriptures. And that is what I want to pass on to you so that God can speak to your heart as well. When you're in that place when you're feeling disappointed or discouraged, give yourself a moment, get outside of the negative thinking, remind yourself of God's presence, and allow God to speak to your heart and give you a new perspective, just like David, when David encouraged himself in the Lord. The second scripture that was placed on my heart was Zechariah chapter four, verse ten. And it says, Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. You have begun the work. God is pleased. Everyone has to start somewhere, and if God place the idea in your mind, He will bring it to fruition. And what may seem to be a failure to you is only an aspect of God's perfect timing. In fact, God chooses things the world considers foolish, insignificant, it doesn't make sense in order to confound those who think they are wise. You can find that in First Corinthians chapter one, verses twenty seven through twenty nine. God's ways are far above anything we can think or imagine. Furthermore, there's a season and time for every matter under heaven. Ecclesiastes chapter three verse one. And Jesus says in Luke chapter sixteen verse ten, the one who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much. So continue to be a good steward. Stay on the course, don't give up. Remember Psalm 32, verse 8, and I've talked about that previously. God will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go. He will counsel you with his eye upon you. So be encouraged, don't compare yourself to others, enjoy the process, step by step. And if this message has encouraged you, please subscribe and share it with someone else who needs encouragement. Text the show and let me know what's on your heart.
