Ever notice how one hidden belief can tilt your mood, drain your energy, and shape the way you show up with people? We unpack the chain reaction from thought to feeling to behavior to body, then flip the script by starting where true transformation begins: the spirit. Instead of piling on more habits and more pressure, we walk through how communion with God in prayer, worship, and the living Word becomes the catalyst for lasting change.

We share a relatable case of a woman convinced she isn’t liked, tracing how that thought fuels loneliness or anger, isolation or reactivity, and even stress chemistry in the body. From there, we explore why scripture is more than wise sayings. The word of God is alive and active, able to reach the places willpower cannot, bringing clarity to the mind and stability to the emotions. As we keep those words close to the heart, they become life and healing, shaping our inner dialogue and softening the nervous system’s constant guard.

If you’re tired of trying harder and still feeling stuck, this conversation offers a gentler, stronger path to resilience—rooted in God’s presence and aligned with how we’re made. Multidimensional You: Spirit, Soul, Body

Constance Lavonice

Last week we talked about understanding as the key to coping well. We understand that we are multidimensional beings. We have a spirit, a soul, which is our mind, will, and emotions, and we live in a physical body and all are interconnected. When we face challenges or manage challenges in our lives, if we make one small positive change in one area, it will produce a positive change in the other areas. For example, Mary, a pseudonym, thinks no one really likes me. And as a result of that thinking, it leads to feelings of loneliness, depression, and sometimes anger. Mary's feelings are going to have an impact in her physical body because every thought creates an emotion. Every thought carries a chemical reaction. Mary, because of her thinking and the emotions she are experiencing, may behave in one of two ways. She may start avoiding people, not accepting invitations, not initiating conversations with others, generally not wanting to be around others. Or she may become reactive when she's around other people. I don't know if you know or met anyone who just seems to be sitting on ready. They're always on a 10 out of zero to ten. Always ready. Mary is behaving the way she believes and allowing herself to be led by her emotions. And that's not a fruitful way to live. So if you find yourself renewing your mind and it's still not working, you're working hard, you're staying up late, you're exercising, you're eating right, and it's also not working, stop and consider starting with the spirit. If you are new here, I want to welcome you and thank you for joining. You are listening to Whole Heart Conversations, a podcast for women that provides biblical encouragement to foster whole heart, spirit, soul, and body resilience. I am your host, Constance Lavonice. The Spirit is the part of us that allows us to commune with God. God will speak to us and guide us through his spirit. God is spirit, and we have the Holy Spirit within us. The same spirit that raised Jesus from the dead resides within us. God moves and works in our spirit as we pray, meditate, worship, and as we read his word, the scripture. King Solomon in Proverbs chapter 4, verses 2 through 22 was speaking to his son, and he tells him to pay attention to his words. Solomon said, Keep them in the midst of your heart, for they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their body. God's word is life and healing. Hebrews chapter 4, verse 12 tells us that the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It penetrates to the division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. God's word, the scripture, is not just an ancient book of wisdom, but it's the living word of God. It not only penetrates the soul, which is the mind, will, and emotions, it penetrates the spirit. The words of God speak specifically to our spirit. As we commune with God through prayer, meditation, worship, and specifically through his word, God will fill us with a fresh anointing that will flow into our soul, which is our mind and emotions, and provide clarity of mind and stability in our emotions. It flows through our bodies, strengthening us and equipping us for every good work that God has already ordained. So if you're trying to make it happen by your own self-will or mental or physical strength and abilities, and you're still struggling, go back to the spirit and allow the spirit to be the catalyst for change.
