Hey Mick, how are you? I'm not free van, David. Yeah, good, good. What have we got on the show tonight? Oh good. Well, I believe we've got a gentleman called Mr. Lee Palmer. Oh Lee, yeah, known him from years ago. Yeah, brilliant guy. Is that it?
SPEAKER_07No, we've got another quiz, haven't we? Wow. Because we like doing shit like that. Just like tax people's brains a little bit and help them along the way. Yeah. Well, we've got our favourite slot of the week. Lanker of the week. And we've got a technical question that we've been asked as well, which is nice to know that people want to know what we know, which is quite impressive.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah, it's good. Anybody writing? So, right, before we get going, so let's get in, let's get big show to get going, get your cheeks in. Big sure, let's get it going. Anything can happen in the next half hour. Well, welcome, Lee. Right, I want to introduce Mr. Lee Palmer. Known Lee for some time. Some he's a basically journeyman, he's done everything there is, so let's have a listen to what the lads have been up to. Hey, Lee, how are you? Are you all right? I am, I don't know, I'm gonna be in a while. You you crack me up, you do. Some of the tales you come out of it. So right, Lee, go on, tell us you were teaching, you you've done everything basically. Climb down backwards and what have you.
SPEAKER_06Well, yeah, started when I were 16. Uh how I got into it were uh sat my mum's, a bloke came round to read plastic kitchen. I watched him when I was 14 year old, and I was like that. That is it this wall were a knackered, yeah, and he made it look mint. Wow, and I was like that. I quite fancy that. Right. So uh got apprenticeship at 16, one man band, stayed with him for about five years. He couldn't have paid me what I wanted then, yeah, and then just settle, yeah. So yeah, it's mad, isn't it?
SPEAKER_08It's like it's how we all kind of get into it, innit? You know what I mean? And you know, some but the problem is you can't get out of it.
SPEAKER_06No, you can't.
SPEAKER_08That's the old thing, isn't it? You know, you can't get out of it because you know too much. You know too. That's the problem. You know, you people like us when passing it on, you know, he's gonna he's gonna teach other people, he's gonna train them. Like I say, you used to be a teacher, I were a teacher, mixed back teaching. Yeah, I know it's fucking mad, but I went teaching.
SPEAKER_06Well, I had to go teaching how was there, but I really enjoyed my time when I were an apprentice. I really did enjoy it, and I learned a load. And I I used to love fibrous and stuff like that, and that's ended up doing it quite a bit, but it went, yeah. I did like my time as an apprentice, really.
SPEAKER_07Right, yeah. Good do you hated mate? No, I did.
SPEAKER_06Absolutely detested it. How many were you working with a big gang or just one man band?
SPEAKER_07I started with two lads at Preston Borough Council, right? Started off as a as a basic labourer, yeah. I was working for the brickies, and because uh like 16, 17, 18, you get a bit gobby, don't you?
SPEAKER_08So it's like hang on, I'll just stop you, mate. You've never grown out to that, but go on.
SPEAKER_07No, basically basically I was mixing up for the for the brickies, so I used to make sure I used to be there half-hour before him. So I'd have one in the mixer, one on the board, and all the spots filled up and all the bricks ready. And he used to come walking down the drive, giving it, look at that lazy bastard with a brew and a fag in his hand, ranting away. And I just turned around and went, before you start fucking winging, go and have a look, no bed. So this went on for about a month or so, and the two plasters there, Fred and George, two I'd say to a mid-50s at the time, and they'd gone to the site foreman and said, We wouldn't make with us. So you imagine the brickies kicked up over the hell because like I just kept him going all the time. Yeah, so it's foreman turned on and he said, Yeah, okay, fair enough. He said, The brickies are gonna go mental, but fuck it. So I started mixing up with them. So first Monday, I'm the same again, stood by the mixer, brewing one hand, fagging the other hand, mixing the mixer, one on the board, spots all filled. They come down, they went, You're right, Mick. I went, Yeah, I'm sound. Are we all ready to go? I went, Yeah, sure are. And that's how it started off. So about two, three weeks into it, it's like once you've got yourself that far in front, you stood watching, aren't you? Yeah, so I stood watching, and then I'm having a little nose about there's a little under stairs cupboard. So I'm stood there pissing my sides laughing. Because these two are both six footers, yeah. Yeah, and I'm stood there going, Oh one of these two big numpes that's got a game there and blaster. And he just turned around and looked at me and he went, No. I went, Well, I'm not fucking well, I can't do it, can I? He said, Well, you're about to fucking learn, aren't you? Yeah, and that's how we started, right? And the road. That's literally how I started. Oh, brilliant, brilliant. So I shit myself, it was about two inches deep in some cement on the floor. Fucking covering it, yeah. Yeah, get on with it. Brilliant. So finally gets that done. Then you started saying to me, right, we want you to stop at about half one quarter, two. Make sure we've got enough, come up and start scratching on for us. So I did, loved it. Within another couple of weeks, right? We're gonna start floating it now, right? And that that's basically how I started off. You do well, yeah. And then got to the stage and was like, shit, I'm gonna have to go and get a bit of paper for this and you can learn how to do it properly, sort of thing.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah. Yeah. So you still work you, are you still working towards that, mate? Trying to get fucking up considering what I've just produced, but I hope. No, no, no, you're gonna have the crack, haven't you? You gotta have the turn, you gotta turn the piss. No brown. So Lee, you were teaching as well. So you got me all right. Go on.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I well, I had well, I didn't have to go teaching, I went teaching. Uh first I went to North Knotts in the river, when is it? Workshop, went there teaching, very enjoyed it actually, it was quite good. And then I decided not to go teaching anymore. Then got Bok on Tools, and then uh I needed to go teaching it again. So I went to Selby and uh that were a brand new college, absolutely brilliant, great college, great lads I were working with. Uh yeah, it was just yeah, that would really good. And then Gove Michael said everybody has to stay in education till they were 18. Yeah, and then we just got well, I'll say dross through the door, and I was like that. I did it for two years, and I would make myself poorly, and just yeah, I was like that. Me and Brickley and Tutor were like that. What are we doing here?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, can you get we gone out mentally, it does get you, don't it?
SPEAKER_06Yes, honestly, oh it were bad.
SPEAKER_08You get all these bloody no bad kids at 16 coming up threatening you and one thing or another, and well it was weekly occurrence. Some you were getting through week, we are getting threatened by some kid, you've done bloody well.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but I'll tell you what turned me uh is when I had to do and do prevent and restraint restraint training, right? And I was like that now. This is I'm just a I'm just well not even well-paid babysitter. I'm literally a babysitter now. So yeah, yeah, yeah. When I had to do prevent restraint training, I like that holistic teaching anymore, is it?
SPEAKER_07No, it's because it becomes political bullshit then, and that's when you start getting a bit naughty.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I like that. No, so me and like same me and Rick player tutor looked at each other one day and said, Yeah, we'd be better off out there.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, everybody, you know, there's not many people, plus so yeah, you get a lot of plastic. I'm gonna go into teaching, I'm gonna go into teaching, thinking it's really good and easy, but within a few years, they're back out on tools. It's not the teaching that's wrong, it's all the bloody paperwork and shite that goes on, innit? You know, you know, and pressure, and then you get these you know, kids bloody hassling you, and teachers management trying to bully you in some way, you know, sending you nasty emails on one thing or another, you know what I mean? They mess your head up, and and that's it, innit? You know what I mean? I don't know, they they do it, but it happens, and there's not many lads keep going right to until retirement age, do they teaching, like you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_06No, yeah that before you've well, I think you've got to do, but no, best thing I ever did when I were teaching, and I'm quite proud, I got rid of health bloody fizzy idiot drinks. They had them all on in come in doodle's machines, yeah, and I got rid of all energy drinks, right? Because they'd come in, well they only went to shop afterwards, but they'd come in wired for half an hour, yeah, and then their head would be on desk after half an hour, yeah. Because they'd be up, up, up, and then all of a sudden they'd just go fall off cliff. And I like I I got inspected a couple of times, and I'm like, ah, well, what am I meant to do? Especially with teaching. So many bats you're getting hit, bit, it's it's really difficult.
SPEAKER_08It it is it is difficult, you know, twice about that. And like it's like saying the balance is a nightmare, isn't it? Yeah, like saying you've just gone back, can you last few weeks? So you're you know, you're a lot of years teaching, and you know, then got around like everybody seems to, and then you know, done your shoulder in one thing or another, and back doing it in again, you know, back pl uh teaching again, aren't you? You know what I mean? And it's it's not easy, but it's not easy. But um this time where you going back, Mick, at least you've got all these years of experience of teaching behind you, you know. I know what's coming. Go on.
SPEAKER_07I just no, you just know what's coming because you've been there and done it.
SPEAKER_08Oh, that's right, yeah. You've been you've been there.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. Whereas if you're going in what I'd class is blind, yeah, you don't know what to expect, you don't know what's coming. No. Whereas the time I've had well, I did the lot, then I did I did FE, then I did the private training providers and all the rest of it. So you kind of know your first your first month or so's let's be honest, is an easy number. A really easy number. Because you you're waiting for uh for your accreditation to sign off again, even though you've got all your qualls for it. Yeah. And you're just basically marking time until that that actually happens, and you can sort of like get your teeth back into it.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_07But it's the the annoying one for me going back in is it's like I've had three failures in 13 years teaching, and now I've now I've got to have some snotty woman come in and tell me that I've got to do teaching and learning courses, and I'm sat there thinking to myself, what, you're trying to teach your grandma to sell gegs? Well, you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. If you look at it logically, if I've had three failures in 13 years, I'm obviously doing something right. Yeah, yeah. So they come in and to kind of try to try to sort of semi-undermind you a little bit. I was telling Dave, my first day in, kids have gone at four o'clock, a teaching and learning woman comes wandering in and go, I'm sat on the front row with a lad I'm working with called Paul. And she she leans in front of me and goes, I don't know you. So I sat there for a second or so and I went, Well, guess what? She went, What? I went, I don't know you either. I thought, do you know what I mean? If she'd come in and said to me, Oh, hello, who are you and what do you do? Yeah, I'd have been very polite and civil about it. Yeah, my attitude has always been, however somebody speaks to me is how I'm gonna speak to them. So they come out with a statement like that. I thought, you know what? Fuck it, you're having it back.
SPEAKER_08Problem these people have is that plasters, we are a different mindset to everybody else. And you know what I mean? We have this don't give a fuck attitude. You know, matter who you talk to, proper spread is like that, you know, fuck you. I'll do it my own way and what have you. Our way of doing things ain't always a college way. When I taught at Burnley College, there were two rules there were the college way and there were the Winchester way, and they did not meet too many times. I've been in front of you know, head of department and what have you. Why have you done this? Well, it works. It's like Mick says, you know, you have well, you know, lucky you, you know, you don't really get many failures in all them times, and the ones you do, the ones that haven't really tried and listened, you know, you have better, you know, you tend to get better results than other departments, you know what I mean? Because you you're a different mindset, aren't you?
SPEAKER_06Most I always I always find construction funded the college. Yeah, we had so many students compared to ER or history, yeah, yeah. They'd be able to run their course, yeah, but construction run the college cost. They're funded. Well, we had we made so much funding, yeah. These courses could run.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you more students, wouldn't you? They'd have six, and then you'd have sixteen, you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_06Well, you joiner in brick, you used to have twenty-two, twenty-five. Fucking hell, and you're like that.
SPEAKER_08Oh, it's unreal, isn't it?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I wouldn't have done that I'd have turned around and said you've an elephant safety issue there straight away.
SPEAKER_06Well, yeah, you've got to do, but it were like, well, yeah, and the pass. It's one of them. It is hard, it is hard as an FA. It's it's it is hard.
SPEAKER_08It's it's yeah, I agree. I think when you've experienced it, it's like self-employment. Everybody should do self-employment because then you realize how hard it is. You know, you're chasing jobs, you're chasing money, you know, you want some mergers chasing you because you're behind on your account, and you're over and and or your customer or pay next month, and next month comes, or I can only pay half of it. You know, meanwhile, you've got to fund yourself only six weeks' work. Yeah, I mean they don't realize the odd thing. Self-employment's bloody hard.
SPEAKER_06Teaching is bloody hard. It's getting harder at me as well. I should imagine it is, yeah. Tax digital, so you've got to uh submit your books every three months, that's gonna go to a month.
SPEAKER_08What's that?
SPEAKER_06Because HRC has said, well, why should we wait twice a year when you can pay us month four times a year? Yeah, that's what's gonna happen, yeah. And uh it's like going to Tesco's. I can't pay you this, I can't pay you now, but I'll pay you whenever you don't pay for a month, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Absolute junk. It is when you go and have a job, or you know, you go like you go to butchers, you buy a pound of sausages, you know how much you're gonna cost. You go and price a job up, or can you do it cheaper? You can ever say to a butcher, you can have it cheaper. Somebody dragged around the floor for two weeks, you got them there. You know them sausages, can you do them for cash?
SPEAKER_06Well, it's right, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_08It's a different fucking world, simple, simple as and uh, I think when you come out of it at end, you've got that attitude, Lee. I've got it, Mick has it. You seem to have this don't give a fuck attitude where there's not much you haven't.
SPEAKER_07I really don't know what you mean.
SPEAKER_08Well, you know, you go these years, there's not much you haven't been through or had dungey, is there you know what I mean? Ripped off by someone and one thing or another, you know what I mean? And that's the way it is, innit? You know what I mean? You come through other end and ah fuck you, I don't give a shit about it, you know what I mean. And I think that's why this uh podcast candidate works really well. We have this attitude, and we you know, you can relate to lads on site, can't you? And they'll you listen to us rabbiting on it, stupid old fuckers or whatever.
SPEAKER_07You speak for yourself.
SPEAKER_08I am I'm a dinosaur, you know.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I'm getting there myself and now, so I'm not bothered.
SPEAKER_08I tell you what, in retirement's like I said, the best thing ever. Honestly, I just love it so much. Honestly, every morning I get up. What am I doing today? And I never go to bed. I love it. I fucking love it. I have a bottle of wine every night, every night, then I'll start sending me an emails that pass one in the morning.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I fucking know asking people to come on your podcast.
SPEAKER_08And I pass one after a bottle of wine, it seems like a sensible idea to do. Always does. And morning, I think, oh fucking hell, what did he do last night?
SPEAKER_07Yeah, well, you read your phone in the morning, jeez. Oh dude, um I hear mine go off of a night, Lee. And if it's after 12 o'clock, I go, fuck off, Dave. You can wait till tomorrow.
SPEAKER_08Oh, I tell you, I tell you what, Billy, first wife got it like that. You you go out and you wake up at the morning, you look around as you sat up in bed with your arms folded, and she was like, I look at her, she said, You know what you did last day. No, but I'll find out pretty soon. You know what I mean? Exactly. Oh dear me, and that's it. No, you do have this attitude, we we do have this attitude or twist about it.
SPEAKER_07Well, the old favourite used to be, didn't he get finished on site on a Friday? Sprayed off to Nepal. Oh get yourself fully skinned up, absolutely leathered, walk through the door at three in the morning, and all I ever used to get was what time do you call this? I used to stand there staggering all over the place, go, how the fuck am I supposed to know on pissed?
SPEAKER_08Dearly. Well, I mean, we used to live working down in London at one stage and in the 80s, like they know work locally. So working down in London went down there, and lads, you know, you wait till seven o'clock at night, and then you go out on piss, you know, straight from site right to pub, from pub right to bed. Didn't bother you never had a watch till the day you were going home, you're out on the black all the time. You had the working and pub.
SPEAKER_06I remember many a time being sight nightclub in my work muck. Student nightclub at two o'clock, still in my work muck. But what's happening here?
SPEAKER_07And and I just don't I don't I don't get where they get this attitude that we're all pissers. I just really don't know where they come from.
SPEAKER_08Well, one what what he did it's like the plaster gets in your your blood and you have to drink beer to get rid of it.
SPEAKER_06It's it's like rid of dust, don't you?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, it is like an antibiotic, innit? You know what I mean? It kills all Bugs that's in there.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Bugs and brain cells. Oh, that's what many of them.
SPEAKER_08We haven't many of them brain cells left. Oh dear me. That is good and good. So what have you been up to this?
SPEAKER_06Uh well, Monday we're bank holiday, wasn't it? So Tuesday, it would have been mate's bluffy, so we went to Ponty Racers. Alright, okay. Obviously blobbed Wednesday. And then I said I'd be there Wednesday. I was like that. Text him. It's not happening, George. And then uh this week I've just well Thursday, Friday, Saturday. I've worked today. Just on a this young kid, it must be I don't know. And this must be sixth out I've done for him. And just boarding, gritting, skimming. But yeah, he's a kid, he's done well for himself as a young lad like so. Oh good. Yeah, just plastering basically. As we do.
SPEAKER_08Oh great, great. We busy next week and we'll gotta work on.
SPEAKER_06Fully enough, same house for two weeks, and then he's just bought another house. Oh which is have it roof took it off tomorrow and then rewired and then I'm back with it more.
SPEAKER_08Good customer. Good.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's clever. And then uh it's a big big birthday, and then me and our last are off away for a for a week. So we are to uh we're doing a river cruise on Dan you. Really? It's a big birthday that's five.
SPEAKER_08That's why you can't that's why that quiz all the other day you can't actually. That we wanted questions, we in quiz Daniel.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Daniel, yeah. Yeah, so I've got a big birthday in about four weeks. So uh yeah, we're off there, and then uh Whitby, hopefully.
SPEAKER_08All right, for cool.
SPEAKER_07All right, uh very nice, proper side of country, Yorkshire.
SPEAKER_08Oh, always Lancaster Shit, no Lancashire.
SPEAKER_06I don't even go out of my own village, never mind anywhere else.
SPEAKER_08I've I've come like that. I live in a rural village, and I I'm a bit of a recluse. I don't like going out to the village, I really don't. I enjoy it over here, that's it. No, no, it's weird.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so well I'm I well I I plaster all year, and last year I did two and a half thousand miles. How many in my van? Two and a half two and a half thousand. Two and a half thousand. I'll give you my regs, you can check my memo team. Two and a half thousand miles last year.
SPEAKER_08Pub them back and then we're back here.
SPEAKER_06Well, probably five thousand uh five hundred of that is me driving around waiting for the pub to open. No, I don't I don't I don't travel at all.
SPEAKER_07No, no, no. I'm gonna say I bet you've staggered more miles over here.
SPEAKER_08Oh, brilliant, brilliant. Oh, fantastic. Right, anyway, podcast coming soon. We kind of run out of time here, Lee. So it's been brilliant having on board. Yeah, I've always had the crack, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, thank you. It just throws up a bit there now and again, so yeah, sorry about it.
SPEAKER_08No, I'd be right, it happens. It happens, done it, you know what I mean. We had it bits hard to stick bits in on one thing or another. No, it's it's good, good you keep going or what have you. Uh long can you remember how many years ago where I because I first came across you? We were I were working for BG, weren't I?
SPEAKER_06It must have been nearly 15 years ago. Well, I got I got a memory and I got inspected and I got a one and then a left shot left of that and that 15 years ago, it's at least 12 years. Yeah, I think about four.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, about 12 years ago. Yeah. BG then stopped working from obviously retired. Oh good, it's good to catch up and see you. But we have another quiz coming out this week. Shammy, yeah, these are fucker. I've altered clock, I've altered the clock today. Five seconds. I've took on board what you said, took on board what you said.
SPEAKER_0630 seconds is a long time of dead air.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but you've got to bear in mind with a lot of plastic on that clever.
SPEAKER_07Especially if you're not long it takes in McLeod, it's look at those house we can hear you.
SPEAKER_08Brilliant. Anyway, thanks for coming on board and take care of it. Thank you, Dave. All right, and we'll catch you again.
SPEAKER_06First voice, Mick. No worries, cheers, late.
SPEAKER_07Same here.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, lovely. Speak to it. See you later. See you later. Thanks, Dave. Yeah, bye. Bye-bye.
SPEAKER_02You get a giver in the dark, it's raining in the park. Meantime. Down the river, you stop in your hole, everything. Double fall. When you need a step in time, go in the rain, yeah. Well down town. Check out it's uh you know, oh no, he doesn't wanna make it cry. When he gets up on the light, play it, please. If he doesn't, wait, it's got a big time. Friday night. With the stuff and with a start and stop winning.
SPEAKER_08Five, four, three, two, one. So over to you, uh quizmaster, Mick.
SPEAKER_07Oh, we're now into episode two. So question one. Which band released the dark side of the moon?
SPEAKER_08Question two, we're gonna play you a clip. Piece of music. We'll play a piece of music, and you've got to guess who it is.
SPEAKER_07That's a lot of answers to that one. But you imagine a lot of them. Question four, who sang I want to dance with somebody? I could tell you it wasn't me. I'm a dancer. Question five, which group had a hit with staying alive? Brilliant, well I got him. Question six, who released purple rain? Question seven, we're gonna play your music clip, and we want to know who sang this.
SPEAKER_08So play a piece of music, and once it finishes, you'll I'll listen, write it down, and we'll feed you back the answers at the end.
SPEAKER_07Thank you, June. Eight. Which band sang every breath you take? Preferably, I think that's the original, isn't it? Yeah, that's original, Mick. Right, question nine, who sang Take On Me? That's a good one. Question ten. Again, we're gonna play another music clip, and we want to know who sang this.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, like Mick just said, we'll play a piece of music, have a listen, and let us know.
SPEAKER_07Which band released Living on a Prayer? Question twelve. Whose sign do I really have to say this? Yeah. Man, I feel like a woman.
SPEAKER_08Well, you do Mick, Mick, hang on a minute. I've seen you on Friday night when you go out, we still let to all wig and what have you. So it fits you down to T T two. But you do look nice, but I'll I can't because Mr. Letto's a broke now because you borrowed him. Well, I'm bigger than you, they will bloody break, won't they? For fuck's sake.
SPEAKER_07Question 13. Which group had a hit with no scrubs?
SPEAKER_08What? Question. Hang on, can you repeat that one again? For me, I didn't get that one.
SPEAKER_07Question 13. Which group had a hit with no scrubs? All right, I'm writing it down. Number fourteen. I think I said maybe. Who sang this? Question fifteen. Who sang Karma Chameleon? Question sixteen, which band release Wonder Wall? Question seventeen is another music clip for you, and we need to know who sang this. Yep, like Mick said, listen to music. Which battle performed Sweet Child Mind?
SPEAKER_08Well, yeah, you will do. Favorite song.
SPEAKER_07Question 19, who sang Superstition? One of my favourite artists. Which band released for question 20? Sorry, I'll repeat that for you. Question 20, which band repl released with or without you.
SPEAKER_08Right. But do we have a special question, Mick? We do indeed. We have the end question, which is always worth five points. Go on. What is it? This one's a little bit naughty. Bit naughty this time. Hang on a minute. Stop there. We got told, but we were too easy last time. So we were like breaking in. So go for it. Go on. We're not breaking now, you put up with it.
SPEAKER_07So your five-point question is name Madonna's first UK number one single and the year it was released.
SPEAKER_08So he's had all questions for that part. That's all questions done. Right, you go and you read you read the question and I'll read the answer. So we're gonna get them right this time. I don't know. I've got answers in property, but I didn't get them right last time, so it means bugger all, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_07So on episode two, question one. Which band released the dark side of the moon?
SPEAKER_08The dark side of the moon was released by Pink Floyd.
SPEAKER_07Question two was your first music clip?
SPEAKER_08The first music clip was a piece of music by Fleawood Mike called Go Your Own Way. Question three was who signed Like a Virgin? Many women, but one we're after we're called Madonna.
SPEAKER_07Question four, who signed I Wanna Dance With Somebody?
SPEAKER_08Well, it was Whitney Houston, and I'm sure she had a few people lining up to dance with you. I really do. Question five, which group had a hit with staying alive? Oh yeah, the BGs. Top band, absolutely. BGs from Saturday Night Fever.
SPEAKER_07Question six who released Purple Rain? Probably the most underrated magician musician ever. Prince.
SPEAKER_08The answer is Prince. Or you get legendary himself as squiggle, some bloody simply written, didn't he? When it went out to his head at the end of the purple.
SPEAKER_07Question seven was the another music clip for you that we wanted to know who sang this.
SPEAKER_08So the record were sweet dreams was made of this, and it was by the Eurythmix.
SPEAKER_07Question eight, which band sang every breath you take? That was the police. Question nine, who signed Take On Me? Take on Me was sung by Ha. Aha.
SPEAKER_08Aha. We're always saying that.
SPEAKER_07Question ten. It's another music clip, and we want to know who sang this.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, music was Billy Jean and it was by Michael Jackson. I'm sure everybody got that one.
SPEAKER_07Question eleven. Which band released Living on a Prayer? Bon Jovi released Living on a Prayer. And I can tell you the year.
SPEAKER_08Go on, Mick, what were it?
SPEAKER_0783. We'll have to check that up. Question 12. Who signed man? Apart from Mick, you know, Twitter.
SPEAKER_08Or Dave. Well me, yeah. Make sure you get the handbag. Make sure you get the handbag next time.
SPEAKER_07Sorry. I've told you. Stop trying to whip me with it. Question 13. Which group had a hit with no scrubs? That was a band called TLC. Who sang?
SPEAKER_08I said maybe. Question was that. Number 14. 14. I said maybe was by Oasis. Question 15. Who sang Karma Camellia? Carma Camellia was sang by Boy George of the Culture Club. Or a culture club. I'll the answer will do.
SPEAKER_07Question 16. Which band released Wonder Wall? Wonder Wall was released by Oasis. Question 17. Again, is a music clip. We want to know who sang this.
SPEAKER_08Question 18. Hang on, mate. We've got everything right so far. Fucked up tonight. Go on.
SPEAKER_07I know I'm quite impressed. You're doing well, Dave. I'm doing well. Question 18. Which band performed Sweet Child of Mine? Guns and Roses, mixed favourite band. The most iconic band in the world. Well, not Question 19.
SPEAKER_08Who sang Superstition? Superstition was sung by Stevie Wonder, one of my favourite artists.
SPEAKER_07That's not blind dude, didn't it? Plays the camera quite well for somebody who can't see Jack's yet. Yeah, you do. Question 20. Which band released with or without you?
SPEAKER_08That band was called the U2. Basically.
SPEAKER_07And the five pointer. Go on, one minute. Name Madonna's first UK single and the year it was released.
SPEAKER_08Madonna's first UK single was Into the Groove. And it was 1985. And you got yourself five points if you got both parts of that question. Give yourself two and a half if you didn't get it, but come on. No, no. Nothing. Hang on, the quiz master says no, you've got to have it five points. You've got to have both parts of the question. That's what he says, and he runs the quiz, so who am I to argue? So that's the quiz over. Hey Mick, it's wanker of the week time. Oh now listen, I know your team's been beaten today. I know you're in mourning again, but we can't keep having arsenal. Honestly. You know what I mean? You're just gonna have to grow up, act like a man, realize someone else has to take the mantle.
SPEAKER_07You do know that somebody once said that football to some people is a game, but to other people it's more important than that. That can be your next quiz question for number one next week.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah, yeah. Good question. It is in football, yeah. I love Football like Mick does, but yeah, it's got big, but we've we we need to get back down to wanker of the week. I've got one definitely. Have you anybody? You can't keep it.
SPEAKER_07I haven't given it a lot of thought this week, to be fair.
SPEAKER_08Right, I'm gonna go for it. Ten millibands, no two words about it. What a wanker. Basically, everyone in Britain is against him, you know, and government. You know, I'm not letting you drill in Britain and whatever, we're not drilling for oil. Everything prices are going up and everything like that, no matter which side of political spectrum you're on. You know, the guy's a fucking idiot at the end of the day, and that's the way it is. So for me, by far, end milliband. What about you, mate?
SPEAKER_07Do you know what? I was just thinking when you actually said head milliband, I was thinking to myself, do you know what? It's gotta be the knob head that doesn't want to drill for oil or a drill for natural gas. Yeah. And for the life of me, I just couldn't think of who it was.
SPEAKER_08No, that's that's him.
SPEAKER_07But then again, go on. But then again, we could also say, oh, wonderful PM, Mr. Starmer again for his bullshit Chagos Island theory.
SPEAKER_08Oh, yeah, brilliant that one, isn't it? Yeah, he's had to you turn it, money.
SPEAKER_07And and tell you what, we'll give you your island back and then we'll pay you to have it back for 99 years.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, what kind of a fucking knobhead does that? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Absolutely luther. Oh, it's the right thing to do. The right fuck the right thing. Well, the right thing to look after Britain, British people, you know what I mean? You veterans on the streets and things like that. Oh, we've got to give the Chagos Islands back to Mauritius, they're never fucking owned in the first place.
SPEAKER_07You know, so we're on a we're on a coin flip, yeah, kid.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, we're on a B2, yeah. Yeah, we've got to behave, haven't we? Anyway, we'll go for No, we've got to do a coin flip for that one. We've got to do a what? A coin flip for that one. A claim flip.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, because we can only have one, can't we, really?
SPEAKER_08Right, okay. Toss a coin, and who is it? It's either it's either keystorm if it's silence for.
SPEAKER_07Oh mate.
SPEAKER_08Go on. Ed milliband, so Ed Milliband, take advice from everybody in Britain, but unfortunately, you are a wanker of the week.
SPEAKER_01I'm a wanker, I'm a wanker, and it does me good luck, it's really well sure that I'm a wanker, I'm a wanker, and I'm always pulling my hood.
SPEAKER_07And I can't catch a fucking win today, can I?
SPEAKER_08You haven't won wanker a week, are they?
SPEAKER_07So need for this.
SPEAKER_08Oh dear me. So that's that, you know, Mick, we've had a couple of people like writing and questions. One lad in particular, you know, a young lad new into plastic or whatever, he called Carl, and he's been doing a bit of rendering, and he was using sand and not you know, sand and cement basically. Nice job, all rubbed up, and a few days later it started again oil spots coming through render. So he's like, Dave, can you help us? I know what's happened here. I've had I've had it to myself a few times until uh someone told me what it were. Yeah, and basically, call what it is, if you're getting oil spots coming through your render, it don't appear on the first day, probably a few days later. It's uh basically it's the type of sand you're using. You're probably using river sand. River sand, a lot of it comes out obviously riversey or what have you, and they'll spill this merch and sell it as washed sand. Realistically, they don't get all the impurities out of it. You've got to think of the river Mersey up and down there every day. You've got all ships on one thing another, pumping diesel out, goes to the bottom, gets in the sand, gets in the sediment, and they say it's washed. Never seen any washing machine myself, tell you truth. Uh they'll sell it, build as merchants as washed sand. Keep away from it, don't go nowhere near it. Well, if you want to buy quarried sand, you say for boxing.
SPEAKER_07Basically, if you're gonna do that, you do the sand test, isn't it? Really? Yeah, it's called a silt test. Drop some sand in a in a in a in a clean jar jar and top it up with water, give it a shake and leave it a couple of leave it roughly 12-24 hours, let it settle, then you'll find out what how much impurities you've got in there.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, what makes us describe is called the silt test. And what it is, you like you said, you put water in a jar and you put like a piece of paper on make it like a ruler and test how much water, and you don't want more than 10 to 15 percent impurities in the sand, and that's the way to test it. So you you put it put the water in the jar, put some sand in, give it a really good shake up and let it stand. And the impurities don't forget to put the fucking lid on first. Well, I put lid on first, you'd be fucking wet through, otherwise. I don't be doing that, uh yeah. But that that's you know, that's what you need to do. So Carl, in future, what I suggest you you do buy, you know, buy quarried sand. You people call it fine, fine, soft, not fine, fine coarse sand, fine sharp sand. And and that's what you need to be to be buying it, in it, you know. Don't keep away from your river sand by all means. Any day, builders' merchants will sell you out. You know, it happened with me. I went to a builders' merchants and I bought some sand. I come back, stuck it in some in mixer. Oh, bloody hell, they've sold me soft sand here, bloody building sand. And then you phone them up. Oh, with some more, they've been bagged in wrong bag. They said fine, you know, fine sharp, but they it was soft sand. Oh, what am I gonna buy? You buy the same bloody stuff, they don't give a shit, they've got the money off you. And you end up and they and end of the day, you know what I mean. They know they they'll come back and oh, yeah, you they won't take any responsibility. You you end up doing these jobs for now, you're not careful if we get a bad name. It's not your fault.
SPEAKER_07No, you bet your best your best one is every time you go in the builders, y'all. We all I don't know about you, but I'm a Costa Coffee fan, so I've always got a costa in my van. Yeah, the cup's usually empty by the time I get there. So I do a little sneaky trick, I have a little wander round and I just grab a little bit of sand in my cup. Yeah. Yeah. Then I can go and do something test. Then I'll go back and I'll I'll I'll buy that sand if I've got a render job on.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, that's the way. And realistically, going back in our days, it used to be pits of sand. Now it's everything's bagged, obviously, pre-bagged before builders' merchants get it, but it used to come in pits and they were like different pits with different quality types of sanding, so you could test it before you board, try before you buy type of thing. And plasters used to do that to prevent you know oil coming through and things like that, and make sure there were no impurities in it. So, call that that were a really good question. It were, and if anybody else has any questions that you'd want to ask, drop us a line, you know. I mean, chances are we we'll be able to answer it for you. You give you a damn good, you know, some good reason for it and what have you. Another thing you want to talk about, you know, you can't your plastering travels. What what do you reign, mate? Plastering travels. What was your favourite make?
SPEAKER_07Well, this this is the this is a million dollar question because it's like I've worked with a few lads over the course of time, like you do, and everybody has their own preference. Now I've tried the ox. Yeah, I don't mind it for render because it's a little bit lighter. If I'm skimming, I go back to old Marshalltown. Now, I'd like to hear from the lads in America because I believe they have a try a couple of trials out there, one's called Crafton, I think the others are Curry. And I'd like to basically run a bit of a poll on that and just see which one's coming out top. Because even though I know Marshalltown is American, I know a lot of the lads over there aren't using them, they're using other trials. So if you'd like a bit of feedback, guys, and just let us know what you're actually using for plastering and what's your preferred trial.
SPEAKER_08You know, like last conversation we're having, you mentioned that curry trowel. So I did some search on it, and they're a small company, they're not a big national company who made you know a small company in I forgot, yeah. I I don't know where about America, tell you truth, but they are a small company, not big on medium, one thing or another, and they do make these curry trowels, and then you you know, you're reading write-ups, you're doing research, and they're getting really, really good feedback from using them.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I've I've I've heard some nice reviews about them, but I'd like to basically be in touch with somebody who uses one constantly. Yeah. Just just to see if it actually has got the longevity of the marshal of your marshal term.
SPEAKER_08That's a that's a question. We were a couple of lads, you know. Say hello to the lads. Um Justin. Hiya, Justin and Cody. Hello, do you? Yeah, yeah, you two lads, can you help us out on this one? Have you have you heard of it? You know what I mean? You give us a bit of feedback. Have you come across these curry chowls? You know, I know you can't buy them in UK. It may be you can, but they're not mainly distributed in UK, maybe through some you know, agency or something like that, you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_07But mainly I've I've never I've never seen one sale in claim, to be fair. But um it's like if you remember, Dave, years ago when we started, it was the old ties act, weren't it?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, basically, that's what it were.
SPEAKER_07Yeah. And then it's like I haven't seen a tie a a proper original ties act now for donkeys years. I really haven't.
SPEAKER_08No. It were back then, well, God's sake, when I started, yeah, it was a TIE Zack or an Italian one. Yeah, yeah, yeah, basically, yeah, piece of wood, or your hands basically on wall of the good, you know, like nice straight hand. Oh dear me.
SPEAKER_07Right. But it's it's it it's a question that gets asked a lot, and I'd like to sort of in effect get an overview from basically everyone. Anyone who ever blast us, just let us know what you're using. Yeah, you contact us through the Facebook page as well, can't they, mate? Yeah, but yeah, through the Facebook page.
SPEAKER_08Can you do it through the magazine, couldn't they? To be fair. Yeah, they they can. They can be I think it's easier for everybody. We we have the Mick and Dollar Mick Mick and Dave load of bollocks show Facebook page, you know what I mean? It's a mouthful, innit? Yeah you you can put a comment. Well, not really. All right, kind of said wrong thing there. All right, fair enough. Yeah, all right, but yeah, you can comment through that page, so yeah. I hope we've enjoyed tonight's show. It's been a good and lease, great guy, journeyman, been around, you know, real character like the rest of us. Yeah, so it's we've had that on board. Music quiz. I'm hoping you're enjoying them quizzes. Uh we have one crew a week again. And you know, if you have any questions you need to ask, just ask away. You know, we will we'll if we don't know the answer, we'll find the answer for you anyway. That's that's for sure. Definitely.
SPEAKER_07And also, if you want to appear with us, drop us online and let us know.
