On Maundy Thursday, we come to the table where the King kneels and love takes the lowest place. Through Mark 14:22–24 and 1 Corinthians 10:16–17, we reflect on covenant, communion, and the command to love one another with a love that serves. Join Pastor Dee and Bernie as we journey from the well… to the cross.

Welcome to From the Well to the World. There is a holy paradox at the heart of Monday Thursday. The King of Glory kneels. The Lord of the Covenant serves the meal. Authority wraps itself in a towel. Today we remember what the kingdom of God does not advance by force, but by love willingly given.

Monday Thursday brings us to the table where the covenant is renewed, differences gathered, and love takes on flesh.

Our gospel reading comes from Mark 14, verses 22 through 24. While they were eating, he took some bread and after blessing he broke it and gave it to them and said, Take it, this is my body. And when he had taken a cup and given thanks, he gave it to them, and they all drank from it. And he said to them, This is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for many. And from the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 10, is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one loaf, we who are many are one body, for we all share the one loaf. Monte Thursday marks the turning point in salvation history. The old Passover, once marked by Lamb's blood on doorposts, finds its fulfillment in Christ Himself. This is not replacement but transformation. The shadow becomes substance, the promise becomes presence.

On this night, Jesus does more than explain love. He embodies it. He sends his disciples to prepare the room, already known, already ready, revealing that nothing unfolding this night is accidental. Then he does what no one expects, washes feet.

Here, power is redefined. Jesus, who holds all authority, takes the lowest place. And then he gives a command, not a suggestion, not a sentiment, a new command I give you. Love one another. This is Monday, the command to love through service, to give ourselves for one another, to remain together in covenant faithfulness.

Paul reminds us that this table is not approached casually. To share this meal is to die to the old self, to put off pride, self-protection, and control. The spirit forms us here. One loaf, many people, one body.

At this table, difference is not erased. It is held together. The Spirit gathers us, the devoted and the doubting, the strong and the weak, the faithful and the faltering into one shared life in Christ. Monte Thursday teaches us that the church is shaped not by dominance, but by devotion, not by uniformity, but by love that kneels. Shall we pray? Heavenly Father, on this holy night you give yourself fully. You renew the covenant, you serve your friends, you command us to love as you have loved us. Teach us to receive this gift with humility. Strip away our old selves and clothe us with your life. Holy Spirit, form us through this meal. Hold our differences together in love. Make us one body, faithful to serve, faithful to remain. And as we lead the table tonight, lead us to the cross and prepare our hearts for the hope that is coming. We pray this in Jesus' precious name. Amen.
