I could care less if you don't like me as a host or whatever, but if if you prayed today because we heard like a Bible verse stuck out to you, or if you changed your perspective of like how farmers are because you're not in that farming community, but you're listening to us, understanding and giving grace to the ag world. So, Brady, I have a question for you. What's it like when the corn is high but the chaos is higher?
SPEAKER_01It's a lot of things, but it's never boring. This is the Farm Wife Files, life between the rows.
SPEAKER_00And we're back. Are we on air? Yes, we are. Well, hi. So today. Kind of hate you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Addy's upset because she's out of her comfort zone. But this is growth. We grow in the uncomfortable moments as much as you hate to hear that. So we are doing a little meet the host, but we've already done kind of a basic meet the host, so this is more of a deep dive. Addie knows nothing that's gonna happen. So we're just gonna do like some little questions at first, and then we're just gonna see where it takes us. You ready? Ready as I've allowed you to be? Okay, so coffee or tea? Um, depending on the time of day. Morning?
SPEAKER_02Coffee. What kind? Like flavor or like hot or cold? Like do you get on kicks or do you switch it up? If I am making it at home, it's gonna be a hot cup of coffee. Okay. Typically a caramel blend. Okay. I'm not a big mocha person, but yeah, caramel, hot. Okay, what about out and about? Out and about iced. Really? So why won't you do iced at home? I think it's just because I have my Keurig and like I have all the things, and like it just also hits different just sitting at my desk or in my recliner doing something with a hot cup of coffee. That's true. Like I'm not hot outside. And but even in the middle of winter, I'm getting iced coffee. I'm that way too. So okay. So tea, just like sweet tea, regular tea. So like I'll do iced unsweet tea for lunch or something like that. But if I just want like, um, sometimes I want like a hot cup of coffee or a hot drink, and I'll do a hot tea at night. Okay. Um, but I'm also very like mindful that it still has caffeine in it. So I I try to limit that. But I or when I'm sick too, love a cup of hot tea.
SPEAKER_01So yeah. Okay. Early bird or night owl. I was thinking of how you would answer this, and I didn't really know. It really depends on because you get up early, but I wouldn't say you love getting up early.
SPEAKER_02No, I mean I feel more productive when I get up early in the morning. So I do enjoy getting up in the morning, but I also like having a slow morning. I feel very stressed the whole day if I have to rush to get ready in the morning. So if I can wake up earlier, give myself some time to like process and everything. Like Tyler, for example, he was just giving me crap. I thought you wake up at 5 30. I do, Tyler. I do, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm being productive at 5 30 in the morning. Like you may be very much. Or I might be snoozing my alarm still. But I'm up. Yeah. I just want to wring his neck every single time he says that to me.
SPEAKER_01Um, what's the last song you listened to? Ooh, hold on.
SPEAKER_02I haven't finished it, but it was just like playing on like my radio station on Apple Music or whatever, but So Easy by Olivia Dean. But I don't know if I've ever heard that. Yeah, you have. You definitely have. I'll play it in just a second. But um, the one that I was like jamming to, most people don't listen to, but it's No Matter Where You Are by Us the Duo. Such a good song. Is it? Yeah. Um, I found them on was it wasn't TikTok? What Vine. Oh my gosh, Vine? Yeah, like that long ago. But So Easy is also known as to fall in love. Have I heard that one too?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I have heaven in the hall.
SPEAKER_01So that's that's that song. Okay. What's your most controversial food opinion? Oh, okay. I was wondering which one of these questions would strike a nerve.
SPEAKER_02Um, and well, I it's not necessarily striking a nerve, but so I think I shared with you the yeah, I did. There's that little game that I found on TikTok, and there's other people also playing. It's like this online game. Okay, so we were talking about weird food combinations, and there's this one person that eats scrambled eggs and cottage cheese, and they mix it together. Oh, I love both, but mixing it I couldn't do, I don't think.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, please do not ever do that. I don't know why that ekes me like kind of aches me out. Yes, thank you. So I do, I love both. I was just eating scrambled eggs when you got here. Right, yeah.
SPEAKER_02No, I was just like mixing them, please don't, please don't. Yeah, that's um, but and I don't know if like my so that's obviously somebody else's, but and we've had major conversations about it. Because I'm like, you're a psychopath. Um but my like weird food combination right now is a green bell pepper. I slice it into like little quarters or however big it is, put cream cheese, everything bagel seasoning on it, and then pepperoni slices on top.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. I think it's that sounds yummy. I think I would eat that. Some people are like gross, like I think it sounds good. It's very good. You should try it. Okay. Okay, so on to more of I would say like behind the scenes of Addy, maybe. Okay. So share what you feel like you want to share. What is a hyperfixation or a hobby that you have that our listeners don't know about?
SPEAKER_02Ooh. I know we talk about a lot, and so we're pretty transparent here.
SPEAKER_01Or maybe I guess if you don't think there's one that we haven't talked about, maybe one that we haven't talked about a lot.
SPEAKER_02I think one of my hyper I go back and forth between being a neat freak, like making sure everything in my house is clean and that it looks like I'm not lived in, but then also understanding that we live on a farm and it's not gonna be that way. So I'm learning that. But the other I think right now, like being very protective over my garden would probably be like one of my bigger hyperfixes.
SPEAKER_01Well, we're kind of in the season of just like, are things coming up? Like, what are the bugs looking like?
SPEAKER_02Like, and like I don't want Cody near it because Oh yeah, the spray.
SPEAKER_01We're um and then we just talked about this.
SPEAKER_02We're protecting our stuff with buckets from yeah, and so spray. I think those are the things that come to my mind right now. But again, we're I we're pretty open on here. We are, yeah. Um, it's well that's okay.
SPEAKER_01I mean, we hyperfixate on random things at random times. If you ask me tomorrow, I'd probably hyperfixate on something else. In August, my garden probably won't even be it'll be a thing of the past because by then everything's burnt up, the bugs have aided. I just I'll want to kill it all. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Okay. We kind of went over I had like a question about your day-to-day, but we kind of did that on your last one. What is one thing that has surprised you about me when doing this podcast? How much you frickin' move.
unknownI shouldn't have known you were gonna say that.
SPEAKER_02How much you have to like move, adjust. I was I was very, very proud of you before we pushed record. You said I went upstairs to go get ice and I didn't get ice. I'm thinking that like, why didn't you get ice? So it can't clack all of them. But she like drinks so much out of this water bottle that it's like moving. Because I wanna fidget, so I'm I just drink water instead. My pea is like crystal clear. Well, or like there was some times where you're like scratching on the yeah, and I'm like, stop it.
SPEAKER_01I always know like we'll be just talking like mid-conversation, and Addy just being like, What am I doing? Like there's some I'm doing something, not sure what it is. Yeah, okay, that that checks out for sure. Well, my next one was what drives you secretly crazy. That would be it.
SPEAKER_02I mean, uh it if it's with you, it's definitely the fidgetness. Yes. But that's not necessarily a bad thing at all, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm just busy, it's gotta be busy. Okay. I kind of picked random questions, so I'm trying to decide like which one I want to go with.
SPEAKER_02We're going through these pretty quick, too.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay, what since we're kind of talking about podcast, um where do you see the podcast in five years? And then with that question, what impact do you want to make through this podcast?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I think at the end of the day, this podcast could sit at the same amount of viewers or subscription that we get, you know, the on those weekly emails that we get saying like, oh, whatever. Like, I would be completely content with um staying at those numbers. It would be great if we could grow. I mean, that would be fine. I would love to go viral. Like, I mean, but that's that's always the goal, but right. At the end of the day, we started it not not necessarily not for others, but like for us, because we enjoy it. But then also, I if I can just change a perspective of one person and not change it as like in a negative way, but like lead them to God or lead them into like just understanding the farm so like people truly understand our passions, right? Like, I could care less if you don't like me as a host or whatever, but if if you prayed today because we heard like a Bible verse stuck out to you, or if you changed your perspective of like how farmers are because you're not in that farming community, but you're listening to us, understanding and giving grace to the ag world is also what I would or even just um you know, like maybe opening your eyes, like if your husband is a farmer and you're new to this whole farm wife thing, like being able to listen to our podcast and have a little bit more grace for your husband, or maybe even open up conversation as far as like implementing things on your farm, like maybe that's benefited your marriage, like right. Well, and I think another thing is we're also still navigating it ourselves between the both of us, of also having those tough conversations because some of those tough conversations save the farm for future years, and yeah, and so well and I think that's kind of been our goal. I want, you know, I I never started there was rules that we both said like I don't want to talk about XYZ on the podcast, yeah. Um, unless I bring it up and I'm ready to talk about it. Like we like you know what's going on, but I'm not gonna like air my dirty laundry type thing. But at the same time, I am also very much aware of those things, but like I need to process through those things, or I'm not sharing them for privacy reasons because of X, Y, Z. For sure.
SPEAKER_01And so And there's been side conversations, like you know, just like with my in-laws, uh, my mother-in-law, you know, I went and picked up my kids one time and I just told her I said, you know, they're very upfront about inheritance and what the farm looks like when they pass. And I told her I said, you know, there's gonna be episodes where we talk about it. I said, I don't ever want you to think that I'm disagreeing with what your inheritance to us looks like. I said at the end of the day, I look at it as inheritance as a gift. Um, so whether it's nothing, whether it's everything, like I'm good with that. Like, whatever decisions you make, like I have you make I have no issue with it. But I just want you to know, like, I am sharing my opinion on how that's gonna work with my children and how I think it should work with like, you know, just as far as being a generational farmer. So like just being transparent about with other people that it may impact the topics that we are talking about. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that's see, and I the inheritance conversation, like those are conversations that I have started to have. I'm just not ready to like completely be like, this is what's happening on our phone. Oh, exactly, right, you know, and so yeah, there's a lot of people.
SPEAKER_01But I think that's been opened within ourselves starting this podcast.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I would have never really had the conversation or felt the empowerment to have the conversation or know the ins and outs if I didn't do if I didn't have conversations with you and I didn't hear from other people and that type of stuff. So yeah, 100%.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01That was a good little thought. Okay, so in five years.
SPEAKER_02In five years, I mean, obviously, I would want subscriptions to go up, or if we get I want to be famous.
SPEAKER_01And he's like, no, please, Lord, don't let that happen. I wouldn't necessarily say that. I would just say I don't want to be famous in the aspect of like people know my name. I want to be famous in the aspect of like, like you said, we led people to Jesus. We opened the door for our farmers, for our husbands, for our families.
SPEAKER_02I'm also very selfishly like putting my guard up there because I'm like, oh, getting a little bit more traction means more appearances, right? More work, more time. I do feel that as well. And so I'm just like, I don't know if I'm ready for that.
SPEAKER_01Right now we're at a fun level of like, oh, we forget to post, like, oh well.
SPEAKER_02Right. Yeah. Yeah. And like, so of course, yes, I would want that. Like, I want to be able to like be invited to go speak somewhere. I mean, I hate public speaking, but like if I have a script or if I know what I'm saying, like see, and when I hear that, I'm like, yes, more engagement, more relatable minds, like, let's go.
SPEAKER_01And I was like, I hate your gut.
SPEAKER_02And like I would always be supportive with it because I think at the end of the day it would be really good to really get our name out there or do something.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I think you're so much for the impactfulness, is that a word? Yeah. That you that that could be had with other people that aren't from our niche, aren't from the side of ag ag world, ag life, that you would put yourself in an uncomfortable position to make that happen for others. Correct. Yes. Yeah, 100%. That would be fun. Addie, that would be fun. Yeah, we'll see. I am also like super content with where we're at. I think when we started this podcast and I texted you that one random, random day and was like, let's start a podcast, like and then like six months later, it actually came like we actually did it. We're like, oh I think just to be together and like talk about things, or I mean, even if it comes down to just sharing a Bible verse and like growing our minds with our, you know, in the Bible and our spiritual journeys, like that's enough for me. Yeah, 100%. Like it fills my cup, gives me a little bit of a break, we get to have friend time, like, I'm good with that. Yeah. Ooh, what pe what is a piece of advice that you've received and you've actually lived by?
SPEAKER_02Um, so just recently, like, okay, so we were just on our last um episode that we talked about, if we release them in order, which I'm sure we will, but um, we talked about the idea of it's okay to be still, it's okay to um one it I don't know if she was saying it to me like as advice, but somebody at work was just like, Addie, you're off. You're off today, be off. Just it is okay to be still, it is okay to relax, it is like you have worked hard enough to make yourself be able to enjoy a day off and like deserve. Right, and like there's always been especially in my old roles where I'm like, even if I was off, I was still getting phone calls, even if I was off, I was still expected to respond to emails, even if I was off, I was still expected to do XYZ. Yeah, and so like finally living in the world of it is okay to feel overwhelmed and not have my whole to-do list done, but I'm still a human and I'm still gonna be okay with moving past that.
SPEAKER_01And I'm was that like a immediate she said that to you, or did that take you a long time to like for it to resonate and release it in and I different context for different ways.
SPEAKER_02It when she immediately said it to me, I immediately was just like, Okay, you're giving me the blessing to not respond to these emails, to not go on and check throughout the day or to not be available. I needed to hear that from her to have an immediate effect.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02It then filtered back where I'm like, I don't uh we were scheduling another day to record before we even started any of recording today. And I was just like, during the week is fine, like I all I can take off as long as I know in advance, right? And so it's that type of stuff where I feel empowered now to be able to take off of work and not feel guilty to take it off because I I would have never done that in the past, and so differ different things for different reasons, I would say.
SPEAKER_01Okay, but yeah. I also like that. I think I mean we've talked about this on the podcast, but I don't know when I would say I saw the transition, like I didn't see a difference in you overnight, but like definitely within the span of a couple months between like you filling other people's cups and like filling their buckets of like love languages and stuff, and really like what's the word, like putting yourself out there and taking time away from yourself or others. Like, I really have seen that change, and that like I don't want that to come out as a negative, like it's been really good for you, and even with work, like just to be able to be like I'm off, I'm I'm gonna be off off for sure, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I think it's definitely still a work in progress, but I struggled with that yeah for quite some time, and I still do struggle at certain points, like today, for example, like although I'm off work, I understand that it is a very, very chaotic, busy time for work right now. And I was in a three-day all-day training last week, so I told work where I'm like, I am off today, but I'm available, yeah. Like you can text me, but I'm not gonna go actively go look at my email to then go look for something to respond to, for example. Like, I it I think it also comes down to me trusting. I hundred percent trust the people that I'm working with.
SPEAKER_01I feel like two years ago, like you could have said, I'm I mean, I don't know that you would have taken off anyway. No, but had you taken off, I feel like you know, the mindset that you have of I'm available, like if somebody emails me, like I'll check in on that. But old Addy would have like been searching. Oh, I would be here like looking, yes, and like I mean we would have like events or like get togethers and you would be like taking phone calls and like checking things on your phone and I I leaving sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Right. Like I would have to just do that, and that was also just part of my role too. So like I understand that, but yeah, the different role has allowed me to have like a little bit more freedom or a little bit more creative flexibility in how I want to live life outside of work, and I'm finally getting to the like I've been such a workaholic my whole life where finally I'm at the point, well, not finally, I'm working towards the point of like work will be work, and I will always have work in my life because I am such a productive person and I need some sort of work to feel beneficial in my life, but there will always be work to do. The day that you run out of work is the day that you don't have a job.
SPEAKER_01Right. Well, and we're the type of people, job or not, there is always gonna be something to do for us. We are just not the people that can sit down and be like and see things that quote unquote need to be done and not think about them like they'll drive us nuts.
SPEAKER_02So that's where it's just like, okay, I'm really going to intentionally be like, what needs to be prioritized, what needs to be done, and where do I need to put myself for that to occur?
SPEAKER_01So do you you like obviously you said um, you know, it's still a work in progress. Do you have a like a goal?
SPEAKER_02Or are you kind of just like living life like until it feels right, until you feel like you're like have found a middle ground or I don't know if goal is the right word because I I I look at goals as like an end, a stop. Sure, I you know I'm so early in my career still that although I'm well established and I've have certifications and I have all of these different degrees that like I really can go anywhere, I don't want to look at it as an end. Right. Like I always do want to look like what is my five to ten year plan. Those could be goals, but I don't necessarily think they can always be achieved in the way that or maybe just like milest like I think milestones might be better, but when it comes to just like the milestoneslash goal of letting work be work, and when I'm not at work, it can wait type thing. I think that will always be a work in progress. I don't think I will ever come to that just because of my personality. Like I always want to be doing something. I think boundaries is what I would work on, like taking Away or putting up a boundary would be a milestone or a goal.
SPEAKER_01I no longer And to not feel a certain way about either of those decisions. Right. Like because I'm that way. I can set a boundary, but then after that boundary is set, I either like second gu guess, feel guilty, or overthink. Like, was that too much? Or do you see what I'm saying there?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I think that's where I'm like, you know, I I set a boundary of not answering phone calls when I am in a group setting. Now I know there's certain phone calls that I might be expecting, or there's certain, like if my COO calls me, I'm answering. Sorry, not sorry. Like, but if so and so from work is calling me, like I'm okay not answering it if I'm off hours type thing. And so that wasn't me back, you know, right a year ago. Now it is, and so like that's something that I'm learning and just navigating, and I'm enjoying that time to navigate. But that's I think a boundary that I've set up, but that's also opened another door of the guilt of like now. I feel like I always have to be working later at night versus like truly sitting at a computer working versus not, and so it there I think it's a give and take type situation, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But and seasons change so much, like even who we are, like personality is like just over time, you just kind of morph, your values change, like who you want to be, what you want to prioritize, like that's just always so ever changing. I agree. So maybe that'll look different in six months, five years, like you just have to reassess as you go, I guess. Um, okay, so next question. What I want to know what your feelings are if you were to just like go into next week and there was nothing on your calendar. Like point blank, how are you feeling? Anxiety. Are you okay? Yeah. So do you want to like uh extend?
SPEAKER_02Although I have had a very crazy spring and I just am looking forward to just one day.
SPEAKER_01Seven days makes you anxious.
SPEAKER_02That, but like the the things that I look forward to just one day is like days like this where it doesn't feel like work. Because if I'm gonna be sitting in a house with nothing to do, I'm going to find something and I'm probably gonna mess something up on the farm. If I'm being honest, it's probably gonna happen. And so I don't want to I I want to fill my day with things that are actually meaningful to me and actually fill my cup versus just doing things to do things.
SPEAKER_00That makes sense.
SPEAKER_02And so if I was going into next week, or even like let's say this week, for example, and I didn't have anything, I would be like I would probably get myself into more trouble than what I intended. I would be planning a trip or again messing something up on the farm.
SPEAKER_01But don't you but you don't think that's okay as far as like planning a trip? And I know we've talked about like you would never vacation by yourself, but I feel like planning a trip, sure.
SPEAKER_02But you can plan a trip in an hour. I'm saying like I would get in the car and just go to the lake. Like I would just go do something. That's okay too, though. Yeah, but that's just by myself. Like I wouldn't want that. So like I'd be like, Alright, Brady, I'm coming to pick you up, and you're coming whether you like it or not. Like, you know, like that type of thing. Uh have I done spontaneous trips? Yeah, I mean, sure. Were they always well thought out? No. Were they okay though?
SPEAKER_00I mean, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Maybe depend. Yeah, I I mean, at the end of the day, like I think seven days is Cody and I would be at each other's throats. Because I would be finding things for him to do. And so he probably has.
SPEAKER_01You guys are just so busy in your lives. Yeah. That would be crazy.
SPEAKER_02Well, and also just living on the farm, there's always something.
SPEAKER_01Right. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you know, you could go burn something, or you could go chop tree branches, or you could go fix XYZ on the farm. Like, there's just always something. And so, sure, I would get a lot of stuff done, but just because they're done, the something else is gonna take its place on that to-do list.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I had somebody just say, like, oh, it's raining, you know, you're not you're not in heavy pivot season, you don't don't have to run pivots. No, but like roadsides still need shredded. Like, I mean, it's just Cody hit a snapping turtle. Oh yeah, nope. I got it on video. No! I didn't see it, he just told me about it. Sorry, that just literally came to my mind, but Oh, he didn't hit the snapping turtle.
SPEAKER_02He hit the snapping turtle. He it was crossing the road and it got into the ditch. He was videoing it as it got into the ditch.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, he w he he knowingly went over it. No, I didn't need to know that part.
SPEAKER_02It w it was bad. Oh I don't know if I saved the video.
SPEAKER_01I don't want to see it if you did.
SPEAKER_02You don't. It was pretty disturbing.
SPEAKER_01Okay, do you have any other thoughts before we go into um um um uh can I pause?
SPEAKER_02I'm just gonna trying to find that video. Yeah. What? Cody said hitting things. Oh no. Cody just sent me a Snapchat and he goes, just hit a quail. I really should just quit for the day. Feathers went everywhere. He's been having a day. We've also been having a day. It's just been a day. It's it's been a day.
SPEAKER_01Of course, this day off is just like not going well.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, no. Not at all.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, we will go into rapid fire. Okay. You ready for this?
SPEAKER_02I guess so. I don't really have a choice.
SPEAKER_01If we need if we want to have like further conversation about things, we totally can, but tractor or combine. What season? Tractor or combine? Combine. Why?
SPEAKER_02Because the seats are much at least bigger, and I can at least like move around in the floors are bigger if you're gonna be able to see. Yeah, I could sleep on the floor. I do.
SPEAKER_01Planting season or harvest season? Harvest. Yeah, like our there's a feeling to harvest as well.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's just the weather. I like spring. I always have allergies, and it's just like a different vibe. Like in harvest.
SPEAKER_01Like I don't know what the vibe is, but it it's a better vibe.
SPEAKER_02Well, and like sunsets are so much more pretty here. Yeah, people are just fancy. I think it's just fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that that's it. Like people just don't give a crap, and it's like there's always so many people working at that time.
SPEAKER_02So, like well, and like I like jumping. I'm yeah, I like spending time with Cody in the combine, the tractor, the semi, doing it, whatever. But like once I'm over that, like I could go into the tractor and go talk to Bruce, or I could go with Tyler and like completely annoy him. Like, I just love jumping around and like having it's just like a good chaos feeling.
SPEAKER_01It is. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and I also like being helpful. I feel like I'm more helpful in harvest season than planting season.
SPEAKER_01Planting feels like it feels busy and chaotic, but like that you can't do anything about it.
SPEAKER_02Well, and there's all you don't need nearly a amount of people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like at least with harvest, I feel like I can feed the whole crew, or maybe there's not a lot. Or I can like go haul ahead, or I can Right.
SPEAKER_02It's like feeding the crew, but also m being the taxi cab or field to field, or following a piece of equipment with our hazards on like exactly those types of things. There's just more that goes into rapist season. Yeah, 100%. Um cattle or crops. Cattle. Why? Um, because I can actually like go like pet them. So you'd love on them. Um yeah, like I'm not necessarily like, let's go cuddle them and be friends. Like, um, but they're just tangible.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and they're just yeah, they're more like day-to-day work, but cattle are also like I feel like it's more like gratification, like rewarding than crops are.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, plus like obviously where we live, like the cattle are literally in the backyard. So I get to see them every day. I get to see them grow. Right. And they have personalities where like crops. Like they're all living, but like, yeah. Yeah, the crops don't have personalities. So like I know which cows will come up to me and will let me touch their baby. Where I know some cows where I'm like, okay, you just had a baby, I'm gonna stay away from you because I know how crazy you are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay, um, hang season or calving season? Haying. Why?
SPEAKER_02Calving is like a solid month of chaos in cold freaking weather, and it's horrible, and it's every two hours or every hour that you have to get up and you have to do it, and it's just it I I thought you were gonna say hang, but that makes sense because at least hang like you know, like, hey, we're going all night, okay, it'll be finished at four o'clock in the morning, whereas calving is like it's literally a full month long, well, solid two weeks, but and it's every two hours, every hour, depending on the weather, it's cold. We're haying it's one or I depending on how many cuts of hay. We're gonna say five at max, yeah. Five nights that my husband is not gonna come home, or he's gonna get home at six o'clock in the morning because he's been home. But like I know going into that, and it's five nights versus thirty nights.
SPEAKER_01Okay, that makes sense there, I guess. I want to ask you this question, but it's more for me because I don't think you know enough about it. But maybe like just visually you'll have an answer. Cover crops or clean fields. Do you have a preference?
SPEAKER_02I don't necessarily have a preference when it comes to like what we do on the farm.
SPEAKER_01Like I'm in the trust code. Okay, so maybe like just seeing like would you rather see like a rye field in the middle of the you know, like after harvest or like in early spring?
SPEAKER_02If I visually just want to see it, it would be a clean field. Okay, however, like that's just because of like the basic, like, let's go look at the corn rows and like just seeing a straight corn row, ugh, it's just perfect. Or you can't really see that too much with a rye. But again, like we do cover crops down in our neck of the woods, but not with corn and soybeans. Like, we do cover crops for cattle feed, right? So, like, if we're talking, are we going to not visual like what is the purpose of the cover crop? I would choose cover crop versus clean field.
SPEAKER_01Okay, makes sense. Good explanation of that. Book Bible or phone Bible?
SPEAKER_02I'm more phone. Are you really? Okay, and here's the thing. I think it's just because I am we talked about it in a previous podcast. Like, I I have my book Bible, love it. I like to highlight or like, you know, put little sticky notes and tabs and all of that stuff, but at the end of the day, like I don't have my Bible with me every single like right now. My Bible is at home, like it's not here, right? My phone is, and so like there's different things that I like to bookmark in there or the Bible app on iPhone, like you can like type in a note. So if you're like there's a lot of form where I talk about like trusting God, and I can like label that note, and then I can go look up the notes about trusting God.
SPEAKER_01See, that would be nice, like just the convenience of it.
SPEAKER_02Um I think long-term aspects, love the book Bible, like not it's just it's the fact of like it's a book, I can flip the pages, and like these are the literally like the physical words of God, but the phone is just so convenient, and it that's also bad and horrible, but it's like it's just more of a convenience factor for me. Like I will I will always have my phone with me, and I sometimes just need that verse that speaks to me, so um I don't know what I want to ask next.
SPEAKER_01There's like many different um paths we could go. Uh fresh eggs or store-bought eggs.
SPEAKER_02Could care less.
SPEAKER_01Really? Yeah. Do you get into that?
SPEAKER_02I so here's the thing with eggs. I like eggs, I just don't use them. You never eat eggs? I do, like, but it's not like I like wake up and I'm like, oh, I want some eggs. Right. Like, if I'm waking up, it's usually a cup of coffee and maybe a bagel. Like I'm it's more like quick things in the morning. I don't really I I couldn't make time to make eggs, but I I bake with eggs more than I like cook with eggs, and so that's why I'm gonna do that. So at that point, like fresh and distrush doesn't really matter because you're not gonna No.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, grill night or crock pot night? Depends on the season. Really? Okay, so do you like to grill? Because normally Tyler was like, you know, he was the griller of the family. He did all that, like with outside cooking when we were gonna do steaks or burgers or whatever. But lately, to not make my house hot and like I don't really want like a quote unquote comfort meal, like I've been using our Treger like crazy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I've loved it. I So like last night I really wanted burgers, so like that's obviously a grill, but I decided not to grill them, I put them in the oven instead, and I just let them sit in the oven for 25 minutes, and like I wanted that grill type food because it's spring, summer, like that's what I look forward to. So I would choose the grilling aspect before, but if it's fall winter, crock pot all day long. Do not put I feel that like like I I don't want to be outside.
SPEAKER_01There is something about like a cozy, like and it doesn't even have to be soup, but like just like a cozy like crock pot. It's like that comfort meal aspect, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Definitely crock pot. Like I like the e like I just made a crock pot meal too, not too long ago.
SPEAKER_01Like, see, my crock pot hardly ever comes out unless it's for like a side like cream corn or something.
SPEAKER_02Right, yeah. No, I I'll do dump and go crock pot meals every once in a while, just because of how crazy life can get.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they are easy, you just you know, can leave them. Yeah. Okay, so I only have a couple more things and then we'll wrap it up. But Cody's made the comment he never listens to our podcast.
SPEAKER_02I mean he does, but it's like bits and pieces.
SPEAKER_01So I'm gonna have you do a little sentimental something, so maybe he'll actually listen. What is something you wish Cody knew about himself that you want? How am I trying to word this?
SPEAKER_02Like, do I what is something that I want Cody to like hear from me so he can actually like validate it in his own self?
SPEAKER_01Right, like something something that you think about Cody, like admire about Cody that maybe you don't say like on a daily basis that you feel like he needs to know.
SPEAKER_02Um I'm gonna say something, but I don't necessarily say it out loud all the time. But I feel like he needs to have his like feelings validated sometimes. It's just like how hard he works, right? Like he comes up here and he works full time, and then he goes down and works on the farm full time, and then he has to deal with me also full time, like and so like just taking a step back and being like, Okay, there is a lot that you are managing and that you are navigating and all of the things, and it's okay to not have everything ready and in line when you think that you have to have it ready and in line, right? And so giving yourself that little grace of like, you are working hard, you are doing the right things. Are we doing it at the pace that you may have intended to do it? No, but that's okay, like you still know what you need to get done, and you are still very much capable of prioritizing things, and he's doing much better of saying, like, no, I'm not doing XYZ, I can't do XYZ. Um, so that's something, but again, like I don't I wouldn't go into him and say, You're such a hard worker every single day. Like, that's just not our type of like love love language or the things that we say to each other, but it is something that you want him to know. I want him to know for sure.
SPEAKER_01Aw, cutesy. Better be listening, Cody. Okay. I asked you last night what your favorite Bible verse at the moment was, and you chose Matthew 6, 34. Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. So why that verse?
SPEAKER_02Um episode two episodes ago, we talked about just like how crazy spring has been. And so I'm really just trying to remind myself that I can think deeply, I can care deeply, I can do all of these things, but if I continue to worry about what's gonna happen in the future, I'm not gonna be able to live in the moment. Oh, right, that's really good. And so that that's kind of where I'm like, okay, all the negatives could be happening right now, but if I don't take the time to like remind myself to be like, what is that positive thing in my life? It's just gonna turn into a cycle. Like if tomorrow will come.
SPEAKER_01Yep. The sun will rise, whether we want it to or not. Right.
SPEAKER_02Tomorrow's going to come, whether I like it or not. And so if I don't take the time to look at that one positive thing that happened today, it could be I did my dishes. I don't care. Yeah. Or it could be I got through today.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_02And so it's those types of things where I'm like, I need to, it is okay to think through things deeply, to care deeply, to put myself in those shoes to like really try to prioritize what's happening right now. But I need to be mindful not to worry about tomorrow when God tells us tomorrow's gonna come. And like I just need to take this time and the step back to really just truly live in the moment and to trust God that He's going when tomorrow comes, He's going to put something else on my plate, and I'm going to do it. Yeah. And He's not gonna ever give a battle to me that I he knows that I couldn't handle. So that was why that Bible verse right now is sticking out to me.
SPEAKER_01Do you feel like I know in like ep long, long time episodes ago, we talked about my favorite one being Grace Upon Grace, and that's something that has stuck with me through decades of my life. That's always been a favorite of mine. Is this Matthew verse? Is that kind of like a lifelong, or do you feel like yours ebbs and flows with life?
SPEAKER_02Um It's definitely an ebbs and flows. Like I if you asked me what my favorite favorite Bible verse was like two months ago, I would give you a different one. Okay. My favorite one is Jeremiah 29, 11, for I know the plants that I have for you. Oh like and so that one was my confirmation vo verse, and so like that one is like my all-time like life Bible verse, but I also know that life is life, and like things are gonna happen in life, and that I have to look at you know, different verse. There's a reason the Bible is so big, and that we have so many different perspectives being and there's verses that fit with different seasons of your life, right? Exactly. And so, like that's where I'm like right now, this season of my life, this is my this is my verse.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yeah. Okay, well, I don't have any more questions for you. So do you have any questions, thoughts, comments?
SPEAKER_02Yes, next time. Although you just sprung this on me and you know how much I hate it. I hate that you do it because you uncomfortable moments make growth. Yeah, like you're gonna expect me to do it and you're gonna know what's gonna happen. Like it's not the but you honestly are like your type A. So yeah. I mean, I get it, but you at least now know that it's gonna happen to you.
SPEAKER_01So I think that's why I've always been like a um, like even when I was in college and we had to in my sales class, we had to like sell certain like items we brought to school, and I was always the first one to volunteer. Yeah. Because I'm like, I get to set the bar. Yeah. That's can that's out the O C D and me. I get to control the yeah, you know, where the bar is set for this whole thing.
SPEAKER_02Or it's the anxiety of okay, when's my name we're gonna get called? Like, let me just get it over and done life out of the way.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, I agree. That's how I live my life.
SPEAKER_01Okay, well, this was fun. Yeah, it was fun. We're gonna wrap it up and we will see you guys next week. All right, see you next week. They say a farmer's work is never done. Well, neither is ours. Come back next week for a new episode of Like Between the Rows.
