Ep. 29 Life After The Wolf of Wall Street: Dr. Nadine Macaluso on Healing from Abuse & Trauma Bonds
Dr. Nadine Macaluso also known as Dr Nae, was the real-life inspiration for the character played by Margot Robbie ex wife of Jordan Belford in The Wolf of Wall Street - the Martin Scorsese film that grossed nearly $400M and became one of the most iconic depictions of money, excess, and power in modern cinema.
But behind the glamorization of wealth and toxic love was a very real woman living through addiction, betrayal, emotional abuse, and trauma bonds while raising two children.
Nadine’s story wasn’t told in the movie.
But she’s telling it now and not just for herself.
After surviving years of abuse, she went on to get her PHD, become a licensed psychotherapist, trauma bond expert, author of Run Like Hell, and community facilitator helping thousands of women heal from the exact patterns she lived through.
In this episode, we talk about:
What really happened behind the scenes of The Wolf of Wall Street from her perspective
What it felt like to have her life turned into a movie - without her voice
How she finally left Jordan Belfort and started over from scratch
Why she refused to take “blood money” and built a new life on her own terms
How trauma bonds actually work - and why smart, capable women get trapped in them
The myth of codependency, and what no one tells you about abuse recovery
How to tell the difference between chemistry and chaos - and recognize safe, healthy love
Why she wrote Run Like Hell and started a healing community for women everywhere
If you have gone through something deeply challenging, traumatizing, or painful this one if for you. My hope is that it inspires you too to take the pain and do something with it.
