A Softer Start To The Year

SPEAKER_01

Hello, welcome back to the Born to Be Her podcast. Happy New Year. I am so excited to be here with you live again as we begin another brand new year. I hope you had such a beautiful Christmas. I hope you are easing gently into this beautiful new year of the horse, a year that everything I read feels like this year is one that is just filled with so much beautiful opportunity. And you know, from an astrological perspective, through looking at the Chinese New Year, many of these different modalities, January is not actually the time of year that many of us portray it to be. And in this particular episode, I really wanted to speak to how you can energetically support yourself this time of year. And I have really been reflecting on how I want to spend January this month knowing that, and this is often the case, December can be a really big month. It can be a month where, you know, we are expending lots of energy when we've got events on, when we're spending lots of time with family, or even, you know, something that I hear inside of my practice so often is that December can be a time where people are often, you know, dragging themselves towards the end of the year, particularly if you have a really stressful job or even a stressful business that you're inside of right now. And so it can feel like a lot to start on the 1st of January and feel like you are just ready to go, guns blazing, you've got your vision down, you know exactly where you're moving to, and that all of that needs to happen within the first few days of January. And if you have felt that way, or you feel pressure in that way, or perhaps you are even feeling the heaviness of that, know that you have a full year to even figure out what your desires are in the first place and begin to then work towards them. And I want to support you in this episode to have some tools in your toolkit or some practices that you can embed to feel a little more easeful inside of this month, to perhaps approach it in a gentler way, if that has felt true for you, because sometimes whenever we begin to think about the things that we want, that we desire, it can feel like we have this huge mountain to climb, that there is so much in front of us that it is actually really, really difficult to even see where we can begin with that, and just know that there are so many places to begin and so many beautiful ways that you can support yourself. So let's dive into this episode. I really felt called to share on this topic because December was a really big time for us. We just moved home in November, as you know, and so many things have happened for us personally in our family life and in relation to people that we're really close to around us, and December was just a really big month. And so I really started to think about how I would love to support myself through the energy of this month, and I see January as a really beautiful time to give yourself space. And the reason that it's really powerful to give yourself space this time of year is because through creating space, that is actually what allows us to have clarity on what our desires are. You may have spent time thinking about what it is that you want, doing lots of mind activities around what it is that you want to call in, how you want life to look different, the goals that you have, maybe maybe physically, maybe emotionally, maybe in your business or your work, maybe in relation to the travel you want to do, whatever it might be. And those might be based on things that you're beating yourself up for about last year, or things that really didn't feel good, or that you know want to be, you want to be different this year. And I'm not saying there's anything wrong with any of those things. Of course, those things can be powerful to think about and powerful to set action around. But the thing that always is true when we create space for ourselves is that that is the thing that actually allows our body and our heart to begin to speak to us. That deep space inside of ourselves that already knows exactly what it is that we want and exactly what it is that we need. And there's a beautiful yoga teaching around this, which is sha. And so is really speaking about, it's directly translated as purity, but what it really speaks to is that when we can almost say clear things out, when we can create the space that we need, that is what allows us to therefore open our energetic channels. That is a thing that allows us to create the space in our body, create the space in our mind to let go of some of that clutter so that we can receive real clarity, so that we can receive the ability to know exactly where life is leading us to, to feel like as we are moving, that that is exactly where we are meant to be placing our energy. And we can't do that from a place where our system is already full. And we can create space on so many different levels of our being, as well as physically inside of the spaces that we find ourselves in, even through how it is that we lead our life on a day-to-day basis. And something that could be really interesting to think about is how you actually want to feel this year. And even inside of some of the particular areas of your life that perhaps you're wishing to change or create new experiences around, notice if there's a feel-in that lives beneath those. My word for this year is nourishment, and so something that I have begun to fill out my year with is thinking about the places in my life where I don't feel nourished right now, the places in my life that feel out of alignment in relation to that word, and how I can start to create space inside of those. So, a really simple example of this is the bedroom that I am in right now, because we are in between houses, we haven't moved to where we're going to be living more permanently here, definitely does not feel nourishing. It has been filled with suitcases and my stuff, Thomas's stuff, Eva's stuff. And so waking up in that room every morning certainly has not felt nourishing to my system. It has not felt spacious in any way. And so something that I have begun to do is go through old drawers, old cupboards, my wardrobe, which has had clothes in it from so many years ago now, having lived abroad for nine years, and creating that space inside of my environment is a really simple example of how we can begin to create space towards what it is that we desire. And there could be so many different ways that you could explore this inside of yourself. Maybe you start with the physical spaces, maybe then you start to think about okay, maybe the desire is to feel more calm inside of my relationship. So if I was to create more space around that, what would that look like for me in the relationships that perhaps aren't feeling so calm right now? And the really beautiful thing about as we create that space is that that is what actually allows for newness to come in. That is what actually allows for opportunities to shift and change, for things to be called in that are more in alignment. We can't just simply start to do loads of new things without shifting and changing and releasing and letting go of the things that we already are doing that are already creating up, taking up space in our lives that aren't conducive to what it is that we desire. And so that is a really powerful and potent place to begin, is to do almost like a little bit of a life audit to notice where you can create more satcha, more space, more purity inside of your own system that will therefore allow you to receive more of what it is that you desire. You cannot receive more of what it is that you desire from a system that is already so full. And think about the different ways that you can start to do that really simply and add on to each one as it allows you to create that mental clarity. And it's really interesting because we can, of course, do this on a physical level and we can also create space inside of ourselves. I just had an experience last night of being held inside of a beautiful, beautiful yoga class where the teacher was talking about something very similar to this, and there was a decision that I had been sitting on inside of my workspace for I'm gonna say about a month or so now. And as I sat inside of that class, as I created space in my body and also in my mind, the exact answer around what I wanted to do became clear. And instead of this decision that I'd be mulling over, being one that I was weighing pros and cons around and trying to practically think about it and really being guided from the place of my mind, as soon as I dropped into my body and created space there, I knew exactly what it is that I wanted to do. And so this space can also be extended towards how you can actually create space inside of yourself. Where are the moments in your life where you can take time to connect with your body, to be in stillness, to not be overwhelmed by all of the information that is in existence around us? You know, these practices are so much more important now than ever before. Because if you want to lead a life that is yours, that is not guided by what we see other people doing or how other people are beginning their year, then this is a practice that is a non-negotiable right now because more than ever we are being bombarded with how everybody else is telling us to lead our lives, and that can make it really difficult to be connected to how you want to lead yours. So notice the places and the times and the spots where you can carve out simple time for yourself. I am sharing this as a mum who is still in early-ish postpartum, not even a year in yet. And so I fully know what it's like to feel like time is of the essence or time is more precious than ever before. But you will always have moments in time where you can carve out for yourself. And if that feels tricky right now, then maybe there are spots and spaces where you can ask for more support to allow yourself to receive that. So this is a really potent place to begin, simply by allowing yourself to create space, space to receive the clarity around where it is that you wish to go in your life. And something that I mentioned inside of that was this body piece, this piece around being connected to your body, to the wisdom of your body and to the wisdom of your heart. And this is a really important thing to practice this time of year as you're seating your desires for the year ahead, because your body is one of the greatest vehicles that you could tap into to manifest whatever it is that you desire. It is so much more powerful than your mind could ever be. And so we want to nourish it in whatever possible way that we can, in whatever way resonates with you. If you know that there's a practice that you love that connects you in with your body in a deeper way, allow that to be your priority this year. Maybe it's a meditation practice, maybe it's a yoga practice, maybe it's even a practice of just walking in nature and giving yourself and your mind time to connect a little more deeply. Something that you may or may not know about your heart space in particular is that your heart space is actually 60 times stronger electrically and 5,000 times stronger electromagnetically than your mind is. So just think about that for a second. If you are going to only do your goal setting process and your action steps from your mind alone, how much of yourself you are not allowing to come online by tapping into that power and that frequency of your heart space. This is something that will fuel you beyond what your mind ever could whenever it comes to fulfilling the desires that you have for this year. And this is so often what I see, particularly when we go on retreat, because when we go and retreat, we are literally in this little bubble for however many days where you are being connected so deeply with your body, with your heart space, with that feeling of gratitude for the life that it is that you desire, which therefore is magnifying you towards the things that you want. The amount of times that I've been told about the career changes that someone makes after a retreat, or the relationship changes that they make, or just how life changes so dramatically because of that practice of literally being in her body, connected to her heart, connected to that wisdom that lives within. And so allow this to be a practice that you implement every single day to be guided by the space of your heart. And allow yourself to be grateful for all that it is that you already have. This is what allows us to call in more of the SM. Maybe it's a simple gratitude practice where you list out the things that you are immensely grateful for in your life and try to allow that list to change every single day so that it actually allows you to feel it up. Imagine yourself being deeply grateful for whatever those desires are that start to come through through the mental clarity of giving yourself time and space. And just notice how much more easeful that allows your desires to become. Perhaps that can allow you to shift some of that heaviness, some of that pressure, some of that feeling like you are already behind simply by switching that attention of being in your mind into being deeply rooted and connected to your heart space. And the last thing that I want to share here is to remember the greatest teaching that yoga could ever give to us, which is that everything that we need, everything that we desire already exists within us. There is absolutely nothing that we need to do, that we need to achieve, that we need to strive for that extends beyond of ourselves. Everything that you need is within you. And so whatever it is that you're craving, desiring, whatever that feeling is, it already exists inside of you. And that's why creating this space to allow it to come forth is the greatest gift that you could ever give to yourself. The first reading in the Bhagavad Gita in yoga is Atha Yoga Yusasanam, which means yoga begins now. Meaning that at any point in your life you can make a U-turn. A U-turn that just simply allows you to remember all of the beauty that exists inside of yourself, to remember that you are already whole, that you have already got absolutely everything that you need. I hope this year is your most incredible one yet. I hope you have such a special 2026. If this podcast has supported you in any way, please come let me know. It is one of my favorite things to have a conversation with you after me having a big chat with you and not knowing who's listening or how it has supported you in some way. So always love to hear from you if you are a listener and you've received this podcast today. Know that there will be many ways for us to connect this year. I can't wait to support you if you are a client or about to become a client. Um, right now we are a few months out from a retreat that I'm running in Greece in April this year. If you have been thinking about it or you're hearing about it for the first time, now is your time to say yes to yourself, to your desires, to the thing that you want. Know this will be a really beautiful opportunity for you to do exactly what I have just shared, to be so connected to yourself and receive clarity on the life that you want to lead and allow that truest version of you to shine and come through deeper than she has ever been allowed to before. I would absolutely love to have you join us if you have questions or you'd like to receive information on the retreat, please just shoot me a little message. I would love to have a conversation with you, and I hope you have the most incredible rest of your day. In this season as well, has been the relationships that I have inside of those transitions and the support team that I have built around the transitions that I've moved through. And this season was no different. I knew that in creating shifts and changes in the business that I wanted to continue to have in early motherhood, in envisioning the birth that I desired and the pregnancy that I wanted to have, that I was going to need a really beautiful support team around me inside of my relationships and also in some of the investments that I made. So I made some investments in business coaching. I've always found it to be so incredibly supportive inside of my business to have a mentor or a coach who can really help me to bring the vision that I have to life to hold me accountable inside of that, to help me to work through any mindset barriers or things that are coming up for me in order to step into the next evolution of what my work looks like. So I have business support. I also had an incredible. Team around me whilst I was pregnant. So I had a chiropractor who is also a kinesiologist who is also, I don't know what the actual title of this is, but a functional medicine guru. Um, so she gave me adjustments to support my body to be in alignment for birth. She supported me with supplements and vitamins, which I have learned is so incredibly important for this season when your body is wildly depleted after all of the things that it's been through. And she also supported me energetically with anything that was wanting to be cleared through kinesiology. I worked closely with my energy healer, with my Reiki teacher throughout my pregnancy to support me to feel really in alignment and also to be able to continue to work inside of my business right up until a couple of weeks before I was due, maybe even a little less than that. And I also hired a doula. I know that doula's can be seen as a bit of a luxury during pregnancy and birth, but I can hands down say that if I hadn't have had the doula that I hired for my birth and also for postpartum, that I would not have got to experience the birth that I had, which I'm going to talk about in a later episode. And so you can hear that I made quite a lot of investments to be really supported inside of this season. And also the personal relationships that we have in our lives are really important when it comes to moving through change and transitioning in a way that we desire in our lives. Because it's really difficult to hold a vision and to step into a vision of what we want if we feel like nobody else around us gets it, or that nobody else around us really believes in what we believe in to be true, or that nobody else around us is supporting us in what we want, because ultimately, not always are the decisions that we are making or the life choices that we are choosing to have something that makes sense to everyone. But it is really important that we can feel like we are supported through the changes that we are making and that we intentionally carve out relationships that allow us to feel that particular way. And this has been an edge for me in many ways in becoming a mum. This is a season where it is so important that you allow yourself to lean on support from the people who love you maybe more than ever before, and to ask for what it is that you need. And so that has been an edge and a learning curve for me, and something that I am continuing to expand into as much as I possibly can. And this is often a tricky edge for many of us. It may feel easier to invest in things that are practical or that give us an immediate result. It might be easier to invest in things that give us satisfaction straight away, or even things that are going to support other people in our lives. And if investing in support for yourself feels like a real tricky edge, perhaps there is something for you to reflect on inside of that. Of course, we're not always in a season where that is possible for us. And when that is the case, looking at the relationships and the support teams that we have in our lives can ultimately be the most powerful work that we do, and maybe the first step that we take towards allowing ourselves to be more deeply supported. But if it's possible for you to have support in your life, then what could that look like? And what kind of support do you need to allow your vision, to allow your reality to be the thing that you're actually leading? I have made investments in my life that have literally made my toes curl, my stomach do a million belly flips as I have pressed the button on sending that investment towards a coach or a mentor that I have invested in in the past. And I have never ever regretted any one of the investments I have made that have felt like they are deeply calling me. I hear this all of the time whenever clients are investing in coming on a retreat, for example, with me, that it felt really edgy for them to make that investment because it was something that was just solely for them and solely for their evolution. And yet, one of the most incredible things that they have ever done for themselves. So when we think about investments that we are being called to make that are really led from our heart, that are really led from that place of knowing that it is the right thing that is going to support us to do and to receive what it is that we most want, then how can you allow yourself to have it? I know that it can feel like we should be able to do all of these things alone, or that if it was the right time or if we were ready, we would be able to make the transition, make the shift by ourselves, and that is just not always the case. And the last thing that has ultimately allowed me to step into this transition with trust, with groundedness, with clarity in what I wanted it to look like, with the ability to stay steady inside of my vision of this next season of my life was trusting in something bigger than myself. Was that knowing that I have and that I hold that I am always being guided in every single aspect of my life, even when I don't know what my business is going to look like on the other side, even when I'm not sure what it's gonna mean for my lifestyle, even when I don't know what moving home to Ireland is going to mean for many things that will shift and change in that season. The knowing that when the desire is there, that I am always being guided and that I can absolutely trust that. That has been something that has been wildly supportive for me and some of the big decisions that I've made in my life. In the moments where I chose to leave my full-time job and trust in my business and the knowing that I had that it was the work that I was meant to be doing, in the ability to leave my job whenever I was working at home and move across the world for a season of travel, and now in this new season of becoming a mum and the shifts and changes that are happening inside of that. When we can allow ourselves to trust in something greater, it really allows us to listen to the voice of our soul rather than be guided than the voice of our fear. Building a relationship with something greater than you does not need to look fancy in any way. Maybe it is allowing yourself to be outdoors more often and just to be in the beauty of nature. There is something about being in nature that really reminds us of just how incredibly magical the world is and how much possibility there is when we are reminded of the fact that we are literally just a tiny speck in this whole entire universe. Maybe it is building a connection to an energetic practice. If you love going to Reiki or if you love practicing yoga, maybe there is something that becomes like a bread and butter practice in your daily life that allows you to trust in something outside of yourself or trust in something greater than you. And when you can build that connection to your soul, to your essence, to that place of knowing that you're being guided, it will allow you to keep taking steps forwards. It will allow you to keep moving in the direction of where you are supposed to be. So, whatever transition you're moving through right now, wherever it is that you're being called to make a shift, to make a change, to step into a new season of your life, I hope that you can allow yourself to be supported. I hope that you can really build a connection to your internal world. I hope that you can remember every single day that the things that you desire would not be calling you forth if they weren't meant for you.
