Welcome And Today's Focus

SPEAKER_00

Hello, welcome back to the Born to Be Her podcast. I'm your host, Vanilla Wiley, and so grateful to be back with you here today. Today I wanted to share a topic that I've been exploring both personally inside of my own life and also inside of my yoga classes over the past couple of weeks. So this is a teaching inside of yoga philosophy. And if you are someone who doesn't presently practice yoga, you might think of yoga as being this practice that supports you physically with your body. I think that is often where people begin their practice, or often the reason that someone will show up to their mat at the start. And then they often stay because they start to realize that yoga is this practice that actually supports us to fulfill our potential in some way. Yoga was designed to allow us to ignite our life force, our prana, these incredible nadis, these energy channels that run through our body to ultimately allow us to live our unique dharmic path, the path of our own purpose, of our own divinity that is different from everyone else's. And it gives us these tools, these teachings, these skills. It literally gives us just about everything we could ever possibly need to allow ourselves to go do that thing, to lead the life that is ours. And what this teaching that I wanted to share with you today has really came off of the back of a book that I've been reading, which is called The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer. And what I think is so fascinating is yoga was created thousands of years ago. And yet these teachings are still being shared in some way today, and they're still being shared because they're still so relevant to how we can lead a better life. And so this particular teaching is Ishvara Pranidana. And Ishvara Pranidana can be roughly translated as our ability to surrender to a higher power or our ability to surrender to something greater than ourselves. So whether you want to call that the universe or God or a word that resonates with you. And the way that I like to think about this teaching is when we are really hyper-fixated on an outcome that we want to have, or we're really focused on controlling a particular part of our life that we wish to go a certain way, and we start to learn how to loosen the grip. We start to learn how to stop forcing it to happen. And we start to allow ourselves to create space around whatever that desire is. And this is not to say that we don't show up fully for whatever the thing is that we want. This is not to say that we don't use our own will and our own capacity to allow our lives to be led through devotion. Because of course, we want to show up for the things that we really want. But I don't know about you. There is so many times in my own personal life where I can sit in reflection and I can know the exact moment where I decided to let go of needing something to look a certain way. And suddenly everything fell into place. Suddenly, the thing that I really desired came into fruition because it was almost given space to breathe. And so sometimes we can think that the only way that we can receive the thing that we want is to almost be in that very masculine energy of forcing it to happen, of showing up so fully, of giving it our everything, of needing it to be a certain way because of that energy that we're directing towards it. And actually, there are so many forces outside of ourselves, greater than ourselves, that are desiring to be able to support us if we could give them space to breathe. And so this is where I would love for you to firstly reflect inside of your own life, to think about if there are any spots that you are perhaps doing this right now. Sometimes this can show up inside of our businesses where we are really trying to create a particular outcome around something to the extent that it feels like so much pressure. Maybe this is showing up inside of your personal life in some capacity where you're so fixated on a result that you want to achieve or an outcome that you want to have inside of your personal life, that it also has all of that energy of pressure and control around it. So doing a little bit of a life audit, where can you see the spots in your life that perhaps you're holding something really tightly? And where can you start to loosen the grip? And you might be asking yourself right now, like, yeah, that all sounds really nice. That all sounds beautiful, but maybe if I don't show up for this thing in the way that I always have, or I loosen the grip in some way, then how the hell is am I meant to receive it? And if that is the only way that you have ever shown up for something before, this can feel like a real edge. And this has definitely felt like an edge for me in certain areas of my life and can continue to show up as an edge for me in areas of my life too. Because I think there is also a lot of conditioning around this where we've kind of been trained to believe or conditioned to believe that that is the only way, that that is the only path, that that is the only thing that we can kind of like lean on in order to create an outcome. And the thing that can become kind of confusing around it is we can feel like, well, we either have to show up fully in our masculine, where we're given it our all, where we're all in on the thing that we desire, where we're taking our daily actions towards that thing that we want, or we're like fully out and surrendered. We're just like sitting in this spot where we've got hands open, being like, okay, I'm ready to receive this thing. You can just allow me to receive it when you're ready. And so it's like these two opposite extremes, and it can feel challenging to know how to allow those two spots inside of ourselves to meet in the middle in some way. And the thing that I often find that supports us to allow both of those spots inside of ourselves to meet in the middle is to notice the beliefs that is fueling the need to only move from that place of action and to not give us ourselves a space to breathe around whatever our desires are. And so, another question that I would love for you to explore once you've uncovered where perhaps in your own life you're trying to force that outcome is what are the beliefs that are sitting behind that? Why do you need to force this outcome in this particular way? What is it that you are wishing to create or achieve inside of your beliefs about yourself through forcing this outcome? What does it mean about you? And if you didn't receive that thing, what would that mean? What would that mean about the beliefs and the stories that you have about yourself? Because this can sometimes be what is fueling that desire to need to show up with so much grip and so much force and so much control. What does it mean about you if you let that go to some extent? And when you can allow your beliefs to align with the person that you already know that you are, whether you receive this thing or not, and also your ability to trust in where your life is being guided, that is what can create the freedom to show up with an entirely different energy towards what it is that you want, because you no longer need it to happen for any specific reason that is connected to you. You're no longer so attached to whatever the outcome is of the actions that you're taking. And so you're able to show up with this energy of space around what it is that you desire. And so, an example of this could be maybe in my life I um really desire in a particular outcome in my business. Let's look at business. I really want my business to create a particular outcome. And if that outcome doesn't happen for me, then that must mean that I'm no good at what I do, or that must mean that nobody cares about my work, or that must mean that my people just aren't interested in the things that I want to share, or maybe even that the thing that I want to share isn't very good. And when I can shift my energy around those beliefs and those thoughts where I already know that none of those things are true. And actually, I just want to show up for this thing because I want to be connected to my why. I want to be in service. I want to show up for the offering that I have because I know that I want to serve and support and help people. And I can trust that the people that are meant to be supported by my work will step in as I show up from that energy. I'm no longer attaching any particular outcome around me to what that desire is. I'm going to show up very differently to what that desire is and what that offering is than I am if I'm attaching lots of things around it to me. And so in loosening the grip around needing it to look a certain way for any particular outcome outside of myself, then that allows me to surrender to whatever I'm meant to receive. So that's one particular example of where we can look at our thoughts and our beliefs, where we can look at how we're speaking to ourselves, why we need something to look a certain way, what we're making that mean. And when we can let that go, when we can free up some energy around it, how it allows us to show up differently. This might even look like taking a complete break from however it is that you've been showing up or the level of effort you've been putting towards something, allowing it to breathe and then showing up differently on a new day as you've given yourself that space from whatever the desire is. And I'd love to share a couple of beliefs that I have really anchored into that have supported me and my ability to surrender to a greater power outside of myself when that feels tricky, which are everything always works out perfectly for me. This is a great belief that I always anchor back into when I feel like I am struggling to allow myself to trust in where life is guiding me or the path that I am being taken on. And I trust in the timing of my life. I trust in the timing of my life. Even if perhaps it's not unfolding in the way that I thought it would, even if the efforts that I am making are not allowing the outcome that I thought I was working towards to come into fruition, that I trust that that is exactly how it is meant to be. And when we can anchor into both of those truths, that everything happens in divine timing, that our life is guiding us in the way that it is meant to, whether that is through some lessons that we are receiving or inviting us in to surrender in a deeper way, that we can know with our full heart, with our full body, with our full mind that we can lean into that, that we don't need to try and fight against it in any way, that we are always being supported and guided by forces beyond what we could ever fathom inside of ourselves. And this will create so much freedom for you. This will allow you to show up so differently to the things that you want. And when you can show up with this new frequency, it will allow you to create soul resonance with the things that you're meant to receive in a whole new way because you actually trust and believe that they're already meant for you. I hope that this episode has supported you to perhaps reflect on your life in some way or to loosen the grip in some way around the things that you are calling in for yourself right now. If it has allowed you to reflect on something in a new way, I would love for you to share that with me. Please come and say hi in my DMs on Instagram.
