Why Self-Worth Drives Business
SPEAKER_00Hello, beautiful human. Welcome to the Born to Be Her podcast, a safe space for you to land as the visionary you are for your own divine life. This week on this podcast, we are going to be speaking about how your self-worth is the greatest business asset that you could focus your attention on. And here's why. When you learn how to focus on your self-worth, when you learn how to build your own sense of self-worth inside of your business, this is going to infiltrate into every single aspect of your work. When we are struggling with our own sense of self-worth in our business, it can impact the pricing that we set, it can impact how we show up and allow ourselves to be visible, the messaging that we share, our ability to communicate how good the work we do really is with our clients. It can allow us to actually find it really difficult to even see how beautiful the work is that we do and the gifts that we hold. It can make it difficult to receive feedback from clients when they have been deeply held by us because of the stories we hold in our own mind. It can also really impact us when we have difficult seasons in our business, when things don't flow like we might like them to, or we don't sell in the way that we thought we would, and the ways in which the stories that we hold can come to the forefront in those challenging seasons, instead of us being able to look at those with neutrality in seeing the fact that sometimes that's just business, or the practical things that we might be able to pivot in terms of our messaging, our marketing, the things that we've learned from a launch outside of the things that are connected to us as a person. And so this is why it is really important to allow ourselves to lovingly look at this part. And I want to preface this by saying that this may feel really frustrating because often when we have felt this desire to be guided into doing the work that we do as heart-led spaceholders, we have already gone on a journey to look lovingly at our own self-worth or the stories that we hold in some way. You may have already gone on a deep personal development journey. And I want to let you know something, which is that every single business owner I have ever worked with, every one of them goes on this journey to look at the stories they hold as they expand into this new version of themselves, this new level of identity as they expand into the gifts that they hold. It always brings up the inner work that we are here to do. And the more we can create space to look at all of those things with compassion and love and reverence and space to remember our own humanness, the easier this journey will become. And as well as that, the more easeful it is to actually attract clients we want to work with. Because in owning our own humanness, we give people permission and the safety to own their humanness too. And so there is nothing wrong with you if you notice these parts of you come up as you expand into maybe becoming a business owner or into a new level of your business. And it does not mean that you cannot hold space for others. Sometimes when we have these parts of ourselves come up, we can really make it mean something, almost like we aren't ready to do this work yet, or we have more work to do on ourselves first. When really the likely truth is that you are at a different level than the person that you are desiring to work with. Maybe they're just a few steps behind you, maybe there are a few more steps than a few steps behind you, and that is okay. It is okay for you to be continuing to do your own inner work as you hold space for others. And actually, it is really powerful if you can continue to do that. It is something that I actually really value in the mentors that I have, and something that really attracts me to working with someone is if I know that they are continuing to do the work on themselves too, continuing to support their own humanness as well as holding me in mind. So I share that as a permission slip and a reminder that even if you're feeling the call to work on this aspect of yourself in some way, even if you are feeling like this is a little heavy right now, if this is making your business feel more difficult than you know that it can be, that you are just going on a very human journey and there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. You're not broken, you do not need fixed, this is just part of the human experience, and also can be one of the reasons that business gets to be so deeply healing and profoundly life-changing if you allow it to be, and if you let yourself have the space to be able to work through these things. I am so grateful to my business for the ways in which it has called me up and into becoming more and more of myself. It is actually one of the things that I love most about being a business owner is that it has really allowed me to continue to develop and grow, which I have a real innate desire to continue to do, which I know many of us do when we are inside of this industry. And
The Hidden Costs Of Playing Small
SPEAKER_00so let's dive into a little bit more of what it can look like to support ourselves in this area of our lives and to even build awareness of it. So
The Pricing Story That Changed Everything
SPEAKER_00I want to start by sharing a little bit of a story around an example of when this came up for me and my journey and the work that I have done to bring myself to where I am in my business now. And so I'm gonna take you right back to a moment that I had with a business coach when I was setting up many aspects of my own business where I had set a particular price for an offer. And I know many of you will know this feeling if you have started out your business or you're thinking about setting a price around something, and I set a price that I knew was way below industry kind of average for working in the area that I was working in. And I set this price and called in my first client, and that was all great. And I knew that I had priced it from my inner critic. Sorry, I say I knew that I priced it from my inner critic. I knew that I priced it from a place of the stories I was holding, of like, I'm not ready yet, I don't know enough yet, I need to wait until X, Y, Z, and then I can look at increasing my prices. So all of the enough stories were kind of coming up for me. And I had this moment with a business coach where she asked me what I had charged, and I told her, and she invited me to immediately double it. And I remember the visceral feeling in my body of like, oh my god, I cannot do that. I physically cannot do that right now. That is way too much. I could never be able to charge that price for the work that I do, even though I knew that actually doubling it was still below industry average of what I could have possibly charged for the work I was doing. And so we had this conversation around firstly what it would look like to just go implement that and do it anyway and let my body catch up, but then also to look at lovingly look at the things that were coming up for me that were holding me back from being able to do that, and what it also looked like to think about the identity I was stepping into, the business owner I was becoming, the woman I wanted to be, and what I needed to do to in order to give myself permission to be her now, to not have her as something that was like in a faraway future, which is a lot of the work that I now do with my clients. And so in that example, you can really hear okay, there's a practical thing that's happening right now, there's a thing that I need to implement, there's a strategy piece around if you want to earn a particular income, what do we need to do? But then what do we actually need to do in order to implement that strategy?
Strategy Is Easy Implementation Is Hard
SPEAKER_00And this is where I'm going to call BS on a lot of what we see online in terms of the perfect strategy and the thing that we need to do to create success in our business. Strategy is important, but it's often like pretty obvious what it actually is that we need to do. It is all of the pieces that go into allowing ourselves to implement the strategy that is actually the work. The things that I'm talking about there with the stories and the identity piece and what I needed to do in order to release that and let myself become the woman that I actually wanted to be as a spaceholder, and how that actually also allows us to attract the kind of clients that we want to attract. And so I was in this spot where I did a whole lot of work to begin to let myself do the things that I wanted to do, to price in the way that I wanted to, to show up online in the way that I wanted to, to rewrite the stories, to allow myself to be able to do that. And slowly over time, I started to be able to gently shift my messaging, to gently own what I do, to gently be able to receive the words that people shared with me about my work and the ways that it impacted them, to be able to price in a way that was more congruent with the level of experience and training that I already had, without listening to that old story that I should be doing more. This is where we get to create the freedom. This is also the work that allows us to, when a result doesn't happen immediately or we don't receive the results that we desire straight away, that we can have tenacity around that, where we can stay the course, where we can hold a launch to the very end moment if we didn't receive evidence straight away, because we don't make it mean anything about ourselves. Of course, we might for a moment we might have a story come up, an old belief, but we're able to challenge it in that moment and see what is actually happening that we can do some workaround. We can look at it like data instead of something being deeply personal.
Turning Setbacks Into Data
SPEAKER_00And so today I really invite you to sit with that question of where am I playing small? Where am I holding myself back right now inside of my business? Where do I have the space and capacity to let the stories go that are no longer serving me? What stories am I going to allow myself to believe about myself, about my work, about my gifts, about the ways in which I support my clients? And how is that going to allow you to expand into your next level, into charging what you're meant to charge, into showing up online in the way that you are innately designed to show up online without needing to change anything about you at all. Thank you so much for listening to this episode today. I love you so much for being here and I'm so grateful to be able to share with you in this
