Learn How To Turn Local Attention Into Real Sales
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Trapped indoors by a winter storm and buzzing with pent-up energy, we mapped out a practical visibility blueprint that helps local insurance agencies get seen, heard, and chosen by the clients who actually live in their service area. The heart of the strategy is simple: clarity first, community always, and consistency that compounds. You’ll hear how a messy brand story muddies algorithms and minds, and why a single, strong sentence can change the trajectory of your marketing.
We start with clarity—vision, mission, and a tagline that says exactly what you do and for whom. I share the rebrand from “Shelby Company Incorporated” to “The Marketing Broker” and the immediate lift it created because people finally understood the offer. From there, we pivot to the power of local influence: sponsoring events beyond the obvious, showing up at parades and school nights, and turning goodwill into real recognition. Stop chasing viral reach that can’t buy from you. Start stacking meaningful impressions inside your zip code.
Next, we get tactical with content. Build a scroll-stopping presence using a tight color palette, consistent type, and real photos of your team. Create repeatable series—Client Wins, Team Tips, Claim Stories—so people learn your process before they ever call. Then we move from attention to action: clear CTAs, fast replies in comments and DMs, one simple lead form, and CRM tags that trigger short, useful follow-ups. Map the journey from post to booked call, reduce friction at every step, and watch warm leads rise.
We close with the discipline that makes it all stick. Plan 30–60 days at a time, batch assets, schedule two community touchpoints per week, and measure what matters: inquiries, booked calls, and bound policies. Clarity attracts, community validates, content proves, systems convert, and consistency compounds. If this resonates, subscribe, share it with a fellow agent who needs a visibility reset, and drop a review to help more local pros find practical marketing that works.

SPEAKER_00Hey, what up, y'all? It is your host, Shelby McFarlane, with the Marketing Broker. And you have tuned in to another episode of the insurance marketing playbook. Look at me go, getting that name right. Hey, hey, hey. If you love this podcast, I would love it would be so great. If you would go on Apple or Spotify, give me a few ratings, um, five star, preferably, obviously, and um share this with your other insurance friends that need to know more about insurance marketing for their agency, or maybe they have a marketing person that is um doing their insurance marketing. Okay, today, let's start out. Well, first off, let me tell you what's going on in my life right now. Right now, we've been locked in this house for six and a half days, going on seven tomorrow, because there's no way I'm getting out tomorrow because of this stupid winter storm that has come through Arkansas and much of the south. And um, yeah, it's been a lot, and I'm kind of going stir crazy. I've been going on walks outside just to get some fresh air. Uh, but you know, it has made me really understand that I waste a lot of time going places and doing things and getting out of my office, and um now I have had six and a half going on seven days to catch up on a lot of admin stuff that I have been putting off because I love procrastinating. That is like literally my thing. Um, when people are like, what's your hobby? I'm like, uh, procrastination. But anyway, so I've gotten a lot of things done, but also I'm ready to get out of the house. So you guys get to get me on or get to uh have me and my energy of being cooped up all week. So here we go. I love what this episode is all about. It is something that is very important to your insurance agency and making sure that we are marketing it correctly. The episode is visibility blueprint five ways to be seen, heard, and booked or sold. I don't know, we could say sold. Five ways to be seen, heard, and sold, as in like selling to other people. The first way is visibility starts with clarity. You can't grow what you can't define. And if you can't define what you do in one sentence, the algorithm also can't do it. And you're like, I mean, all I do is sell insurance. Yeah, but what's your vision statement? What's your um mission statement? What is your tagline? Do you have things like that for your agency that you can then turn into gold on social media and it be like a brand of what you describe your agency as? Like, um, are you the best local insurance agent? Uh obviously, we all know you're the best local insurance agency wherever you're at. So, what is something that you can actually define your agency as? And then we can build your social media presence around there. We want people to know what you do and how you can help them solve their problems. So, visibility starts with clarity, right? Uh, an example for me would be I used to be known as Shelby Company Incorporated. That was my business name for years and years and years, and nobody really knew what that was, right? Because we're like, oh, Shelby and Company, that's cute. That would be the response that I would get. And I'm like, well, that's annoying. Uh people don't even know what I do. So it took me about six to eight months to actually come up with the rebrand of the marketing broker. And I launched that in 2024, October of 2024. And um, it's insane how much more business I've gotten since then because it's clear of what I do. She's the marketing broker, she does marketing. And that was a big pivot in my business was understanding that that clarity is important for my social media, my branding, my marketing, and who I am. The next one is the power of local influence. As you guys know, we want to get involved in our community as much as possible, especially insurance agents. And you're probably annoyed that I keep bringing that up, but it is so true. Insurance is no fun. People don't like talking about it, people don't like paying for it, mainly because we're told we have to have it, right? Or at least like auto insurance, the bare minimum we have to have. And nobody likes to be told what to do. So we're like, ugh, government insurance gross, you know? So how can we make insurance fun? How do we make it powerful in our community? You show up to games at the high school, you show up as a sponsor for random things like Spelling Bee, you give back to community uh organizations, you show up to the parades, you make yourself known. Like the power of local influence is what's gonna make you successful as an insurance agent because you probably have at least five to eight people, if not more, depending on the size of your town, that you are competing with. In fact, I have a customer or a client that's an insurance agent, and she has 15 agents that she um helps in or has to compete in. Hang on. Excuse me. She has 15 agents that she has to compete against just in her town of people. Isn't that crazy? So if you are the one that's competing with a bunch of agents, how are you standing out? How are you making yourself look better? How are you the best insurance agent in town? And I want you to use that local influence to your good. Stop trying to go viral all the time. You may see other insurance agents on TikTok and they're going viral, but you know what? They're being seen by people out of the state and they can't even help them with insurance, right? We want to make sure that the number of people that we have coming to us and seeing our stuff is the people that we can do business with. So then we want to, on the third one, build a scroll stopping presence. I want your visuals to be so good. I want you to use branding colors, I want you to use your logo, I want you to use photos of you and your team so that way people know who they're doing business with. Again, we go back to insurance is boring. Insurance is not something that people want to talk about. But when they need something, when they have a claim to file, when they've had a terrible experience at another company, I want them to know what they can expect before they even call you. What does your team members look like? How can you incorporate branding shoots so that way you're in the office and you're talking with each other and you're learning from each other and people see that it's your birthdays and work anniversaries, like those are so important. So those are what you're gonna use to build a scroll-stopping presence on social media. I want them to look beautiful and I want people to be able to see it. Now, we have this beautiful strategy, we have these beautiful graphics, we have this beautiful um thing that we're gonna, you know, marketing efforts that we're putting out and knowing that we are the best insurance agent in our community. But how are we converting that attention into action? And that's the fourth thing. How are you converting your impressions and your views and your follows into action? How are you getting those people in the door? Are you calling them? Are you following up with them? What does that customer journey look like when you get them off of social media and onto your um CRM? What does that look like exactly for you guys? So I want you to think about that. How are you converting those impressions into sales, into leads? How can you do that? Responding to comments on social media, DMing people that are liking your stuff, thanking them for following your business, like use clear call to actions. How can they call your or how can they get a hold of you? Is it calling? Is it email? Do you have a funnel on your website? How can you get them through the funnel? It's important to have that back end stuff ready for whenever you are making your front end marketing beautiful and great, but then if there's a break in between that and the back end, then we're not actually doing a good job when it comes to marketing. So, how are you converting that attention into action? And the fifth and final thing, and you guys know what I'm about to say. Do you? Maybe you can take a guess. Okay. Visibility is a daily discipline. Yes, that means staying consistent. You guys know I preach this all the time. I want you to stay consistent. I want you to stay in front of people. I want you to be able to sit here on a Sunday and be able to make your strategy for the week or for the month or maybe 30 or 90 days, maybe 60 days, whatever it looks like for you, and stay consistent. When we show up consistently on social, when we show up consistent in our community, people know what to expect from us and they know how we can serve them for better or serve them better than what our clients can because or our competitors can because we are the best insurance agent in the community, right? Anyway, so let's go over it. The five things we just said. Visibility starts with clarity, the power of local influence, build a scroll-stopping presence, convert your attention into action, and visibility is a daily discipline, so I want you to stay consistent. You guys, it has been a crazy week for me. Thank you so much for tuning in to this episode. I would love for you to share it with somebody or give me a rating.
