Crystal Gail Fraser

Dr. Crystal Gail Fraser is a Gwichyà Gwich’in historian, Indigenous Studies scholar, author and advocate from Inuvik and Dachan Choo Gèhnjik (Tree River), Northwest Territories. She is an Associate Professor at the U of A and her research focuses on Indigenous histories in the North, residential and day schooling, Indigenous childhoods, land and treaties, and the relationships between colonialism, education, genocide and human rights. She is the award-winning author of By Strength, We Are Still Here: Indigenous Peoples and Indian Residential Schooling in Inuvik, Northwest Territories and co-author of Talk Treaty to Me: Understanding the Basics of Treaties and Land in Canada. Dr. Fraser is a committed advocate for truth-telling, reconciliation and Indigenous rights, and has served on the Governing Circle of the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation and the National Advisory Committee on Missing Children and Unmarked Burials.
