Sara Komarnisky
Sara Komarnisky is a writer, researcher and public scholar whose work explores northern communities, health, culture, art and reconciliation. She has written about the lifeways of multigenerational Mexican families in Alaska and Indigenous art and craft created by patients at tuberculosis hospitals in northern North America. Her collaborative projects include Book of Hope: Healthcare and Survival in the North and Xàgots’éehk’ǫ̀ Journal. With Dr. Crystal Fraser, she co-authored 150 Acts of Reconciliation and the national bestseller Talk Treaty to Me: Understanding the Basics of Treaties and Land in Canada. Sara holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia, where she was a Vanier Scholar. Of Ukrainian settler ancestry, she grew up in Holden, Alberta, and has lived in Sǫǫ̀mbak'è (Yellowknife) since 2018 with her husband and two children.
