I was hired for my first professional dance job—and fired the next day. In this episode of Essence Embodied, I share how that painful moment of rejection in Los Angeles became the beginning of something far more meaningful. A story about setbacks, unexpected turns, a surprise love story, and learning to trust the path unfolding in front of you.

This episode explores rejection, resilience, career setbacks, personal growth, romance, and trusting your path as a creative.

Why Embody Your Essence

Speaker

Welcome to Essence Embodied by Tyne Stecklein. This is part two of episode one. Let me tell you why you're gonna want to listen to part two. I am going to talk to you about why we need to embody our essence. As I shared with you in our first episode, I contacted the dance captain when I was confused about what was happening with the rehearsal of my first job I'd been hired for. And his name was Corey. And Corey was my partner in rehearsal. He would have been my partner in this show had I gone on to work with this artist. And we were doing intimate dancing, if you will. And I was feeling very connected to him. Yes, as a dance partner, but as a person. And I think he was feeling a bit of that back because he took me to lunch and told me that I had been fired. And that is where my path ended as far as that job opportunity goes. But it is not where my relationship with Corey ended. In fact, we started dating, and there is a lot of drama entangled up in that part of our story because doesn't every relationship have a lot of complexity at some point. If it doesn't, then you know, I don't know if it's real, right? So we started dating, and now we can fast forward many years later. I want to say about 19 years later. And we have been married now for 13 years, and we have three children, two boys and a girl. And we met essentially being dance partners and Corey telling me, You're fired. It is again life's way of saying you have no idea why things happen. You have no idea what the future holds for you. But the more that you stay present, you stay connected, you stay excited about life, the more excitement it is gonna bring back to you twofold. That is my fun, juicy detail in that story getting fired from that job because when I moved to LA, I was moving to be a professional dancer. Nothing in me thought that I was gonna really care about finding a romantic relationship. Certainly wasn't gonna get married young and have babies. I was going to be successful. I was going to be a very successful performer. It started as me wanting to be a dancer, and that passion changed to me wanting to be an actor and a dancer and an actress and all the things. And I never really cared about the family aspect. And then I fell in love at 18. I fell in love. And Corey has been my better half, my rock solid support in all of the experiences that I'm gonna share with you on this podcast because he is lighthearted. He doesn't care what people think, he cares a lot about me and our children. He's a wonderful father, and he has just been there for me through all of the ups and the downs. And the fact that I met him on my very first experience and moment in the entertainment industry is so wild to me. Like I said, it's not at all what I was planning for myself and for my life. And it has been not what I like to call the silver lining of that story, but the gold lining. He is my gold lining. So the lesson that I want to leave with you today is to stay open-minded, to stay in this place of wonder because we don't know why things happen. But when we can just stay open-minded and curious about the possibilities that could come our way, it changes everything for the better. There's a woman who is one of the reasons I'm doing a podcast because I have been so inspired by hers. Her name is Cathy Heller. And one of the things that I love that she says is to not think about what's probable, what's probably gonna happen for me today, or what's probable in my life, but what is possible? What are the possibilities for your life today? And I love that because it's like when I wake up this morning, what is possible? Whose life can I impact? Who might impact me? What can I do to make life feel more exciting, to be more connected to my creator, to be more inspiring to even my immediate circle, my husband, my children, my friends, my family. Stay curious, keep that wonder and keep embodying your essence. Because the one thing that I've always been able to do with Corey is be exactly who I am, for better or worse. I never would have connected with him and have the beautiful life that we have now if I wouldn't have shown up as myself on day one at rehearsal for that job. If I would have shown up for who I knew they wanted, the type of person that they wanted for that job, then I wouldn't have been being me and I wouldn't have lined with him. You will hear me talk about this over and over. How when we show up with our authentic essence and our unique energy, our life clicks into place. Our life lines up. It's like here is your pathway. Take your first step. I really believe this. So it's so important. So today, if you can take your first baby step into being who you are, finding your authentic self and just letting the world see that a little bit more, I encourage you to do so.
