Um a few of us will do like some fancy friend tips, so it'll still be the white and the pink, but we'll do some like little extra bits, or there'll be like a single Diamonty somewhere. Oh, that is so EP. So some of us will do that, but a lot of uh um girls will have their feet done in their lucky colour, so either their club colour or like their letter colour. Um because you can, because they're colour.

I find it really hard to disconnect from the day that I've had and then turn up to busy and be like busy mode. And like our teacher, she's literally doing her job by giving you notes. Like that is the only reason why she's there is to give you notes.

To give you notes, it's a whole job. We have a couple of kids and ladies that we know how many corrections we can give in a lesson before they switch off. And we won't tell them that because we don't want them to feel like like thinking about it. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. But Lise and I will go to the teacher. But Lise and I are looking and go, we're we're at five-ish. She might take one more because there have been a couple of little ones, but we're not really getting much more out of her because A, she'll get the whole, and B, she'll shut down.

And your first round at EP would be very like that because there'd be so many little technical things that you just don't have to do.

Even though, like, personally I would love to do the APDA work, I know it would be more beneficial to be doing EP.

Yeah, so most of us are just finishing off like chuck comps, mid-year concerts, showcases, whatever. Um, kind of just getting everybody in the groove of performing it from top to bottom without stopping and like having an audience of some description.

Um, our first intercomp for EP that I am aware of is at Woolgooga on the 2nd of August. That's a good thing. And then they kind of up in Whoopi. Yep. Um, and then they kind of continue on from there. We're doing four. So they've changed the rules. We used to be able to do three, um, but then they figured out that was four intercomp.

They figured out that once they um like people applied to do their intercomp, um, that there was too many and they couldn't get enough people to go to make it a financially viable export. Um they're letting you let us do four. So they let us go up to four this year, which is I mean, it's great because it gives people more options, but if I'm going to all four, I might as well whack a letter on and do it, right? 100%. So we are doing four. So we've got Southern Highlands slash capital that are doing a joint one in Canberra on the 15th of August, and we've got ours on the 22nd of August, and we've got a gap week where we're not doing any, but I know I think Coleroy has one, but there's definitely one on that that weekend, the 27th, 9th, whatever that is. Um, and then we're doing Yarrow on the 5th, and then we're doing Hawkesbury Valley out on the 12th of September. And then there's two weeks between the 12th and junior teams and my zone.

You can't guarantee like where you're gonna be and what you're gonna be doing and like what's scheduled when, and so you just go, Oh, I'll have to look at the calendar.

Especially as a teacher, because you're at all the competitions anyway. Like it's not just the ones you're competing at. 100%. So you're at all of them. So I I genuinely have we have in our calendar for me and my husband um which weekends that I'm at. I I don't even write what competition is, it's I'm like, I'm out, I'm out, I'm out, I'm out, I'm out. And there's one in the middle, and it's usually when we do our end of year showcase for our comp.

So we just threw that one in the mix. Well, this is really good um segue because today's thing that we're deep diving in is around etiquette about around competition.

of June. Um, and we had um a wonderful guest speaker that came over and talked to us about neurodivergence and how to use and how to like best work with that in your class. So it was fantastic. I will get you the Instagram profile of the guest speaker because her name is eluding me at the moment. Um, but I will get you though all those details and send them to you. But she did a seminar while we were up at conference and kind of sat with us and went, look, this is what the neurodividergent brain does. This is how you can work with it, this I can better kids. But don't you know the amount of teachers that were sitting in that seminar going, I think I might have and all of us in there that I'm like I'm undiagnosed, but probably, but there are many um diagnosed individuals in the room that are all like, yes, correct. Yeah, you are very correct, thank you so much.

I feel like ASD, you know, leans very hard into structure and specifics. Yes, they're very like, you know, architects, designers, like people who are very specific about and the amount of physi people that are teachers and nurses. And oh yes, there are a lot of nurses in physi, I reckon. But uh ADHD can veer very much towards people who don't like following instructions and don't like getting notes.

They yes, yes and no. I think it depends on the type of ADHD that you have. If you're not presenting or unpresenting, yeah. Um, but I I think even those that don't like following rules, they still prefer routine.

Like, would you go and teach in one of the schools? I'm like, Absolutely not, I get kicked out before the kids would. Like, what do you mean I can't wear a hair tie that's a different colour to my hair?

A little bit. Um so I know that we have a rule at our um club specifically, um, that we don't come backstage after our performance when we're in the middle of heat and talk about what we did wrong. Yes, correct. Um, because it just gets into everyone's heads, like um, like it's contagious, like the way an an idea can just rip through a group of people

Don't talk about your mistakes between heats. DON'T.

about something that you know could actually be objectively quite hard to do, or it could be really easy sort of a move. And people are like, Oh, I've never even thought about that before. Like, oh fuck, what is it? Is it the left or the right? And then everyone starts to everyone starts going, Oh I don't know if I do that, help me have it. Yeah, yeah. And it's just like last year our teacher was like, When you get back after you were out there, do not talk about what you did wrong. Yeah. Don't so that's why I fucked my routine and um marched out on the right. Ugh. And um I just did the whole routine and went back, and all these girls are back there, and they're like, How'd you go? And I'm like, Yeah, alright, I think.

Yeah, I was straight back out in the chairs. So um, but it wasn't until much later that I saw all the girls that I was in the same section as, and I was like, oh my god. Now I can find my beer. Now I can tell you what actually happened because I just spent like a whole heap of time with you guys out the back waiting for the heats to get through and not be able to tell you. Yes, I was the first fucking song. Oh, that's awful. I was the first song of the day. I'd never even heard the music yet. Wait, what do you mean you'd never heard the music? Just that day. Like I'd had I was literally the first.

You know, like when like other competitions, there's other heats going on. Yeah, and you can kind of hear it when you have warm-up and do a run through. Yeah, it was just I went cold turkey. And um, yeah, but the rule was don't come back and talk about it. And um that would have been super beneficial had it been followed. It wasn't, and then I've just been very interested in what are other clubs doing. Um, you know, I just feel like there's other clubs that might have their own little inside rule. Like I know that around when we go to Homebush, um, it's a very big bug bear at our club that people are going into the change rooms and holding them all day. Yeah, no, absolutely set number of change rooms, but you might go on at like I don't know, eleven and then you're done for the rest of the day. Get your stuff out. And these mofos are holding the room all day. Yeah, no. When you turn up in your routines at two, and all

the rooms are taken, and it's like the people that took the rooms in the morning just bags them for the rest of the day. Yeah, no. And it's like, no, pack your stuff up and go sit up in the chairs and move on to the next crew. It's not your VIP section. Yeah.

Because we have for our seniors and extended, because we have teams and chamber girl on the same day, we do tend to reserve spaces like upstairs and around the space wherever we are, for um our bags and stuff. But Louise and I are very uh hard on our girls going, the room is not ours, this part of the room is ours. Stop spreading yourself everywhere. Yeah, yeah, like there's six of us, the room is big enough for 20. Stop taking up that much space.

Space seems to be a real issue, like, even just so we put it out to the community just to see what's going on out there, and I that space was a real theme.

Oh, space space is the theme, and we'll kick off um into kind of like the themes and what people came off with. This is not an adequate question. This is just a question that I have. Do you as individuals, when you're competing, when it's not your heat, are you watching the other heats?

Um, it I we can't really, because we're on stages. So it is much harder for us. We're all backstage. Yeah, a lot of times we will actually have the live, someone will have the live stream playing, and so we do we watch other people as we go, mainly because we're watching our other girls and our other heats.

Um, we just want to see how we're nosy, we want to see how they're going. Um, but we're on the advanced ladies days. So when you have the open advanced ladies that are competing to go to town hall, there's upwards of 80 to 100 women all doing it at the same time as as we all know. And we put them in their heats and then they leave to go and watch. And then they run back in, like, oh my heat's about to go. I'm like, no, that is not my problem. If you miss your heat, that is so your problem. Stop moving. Oh my god.

Do you watch? I can't watch, I can't watch anyone. Like, if it's at zone, especially I don't I don't want to see it. No, it psyches me out.

I don't want to see my comrades, because I'll call them comrades because it feels like we're in battle. I don't want to see my comrades go down on the field. Like it would give me the yips to see you out there make a mistake and go, ooh, that's too bad, Chief.

Like No, there there are definitely a a fair few EPs that won't watch anybody else, and they'll sit and they'll zone in, which is great. I I watch everybody else in our club. Like I sit there and watch the club girls to see how they're going.

But like I love watching people, like, but I it's like no, you can't be standing out the back watching and just give me the year.

I I know, I know. Okay, so this we'll we'll kind of kick off. And actually, it's really great that you're here, Nikki, because one of the first questions that came in, which meant very little to me because I didn't understand it. In EP clapping on every beat during the finals open seniors dance at town hall. I'm like, is this a thing?

SPEAKER_02 21:15

It is. So uh when they do their grand grand final, so they've done their two open seniors, yeah. They're not heats, but like their their run throughs, and they've got been given the six girls that are going to complete against the other six girls have been told that they're in that group. Yeah, don't get told they're places, blah blah. You get to the end of their routine, they clap, and everyone claps along with the dance as they go. It works if you can clap on beat. If you can find the beat, if you can clap in time, sure. Oh, we have to go this. Could it be a lot of people clapping? It is a lot of people clap, and if it's a like if it's a dance where the music holds it for long enough, then yes, it sounds great, and it like kids people are cheering, it's a wonderful time. Because the dance, at especially in that particular round of the routine, no one cares about that dance. Like you can do whatever you want. It's not going into judging.

Um she was sitting like right there, and I wasn't looking at her because I was competing, I wasn't focused on her, and I was right at the end of the stretch, and I was taking as much lung as I time as I could with it, and then her foot moved and I fell over.
