In this episode, we look at nervous system regulation through a different lens — not as a one-size-fits-all set of tools, but as something deeply individual to your patterns.

We unpack how astrology can be used in a practical way to understand how you regulate emotionally, move energy, replenish yourself, and grow — not as prediction, but as a framework for awareness.

Because if you’ve ever felt like the “right” tools aren’t working for you… you might not be doing it wrong. You might just be working against your own system.

In this episode, we cover:

How your Moon sign influences emotional regulation and what safety feels like in your body
The difference between regulation and avoidance (and why they often get confused)
How Mars shows you the way your body wants to move energy and take action
Why feeling stuck can be a mismatch between your patterns and your approach to action
Venus as the most overlooked piece of nervous system repair and replenishment
How to identify what actually fills your cup vs what you think should
The North Node as your growth edge and why it often feels uncomfortable
Understanding that growth feels hard because it’s new for your nervous system — not because it’s wrong
Using elemental patterns (fire, earth, air, water) as a simple way to apply all of this in real life

The Summit Takeaway:

Regulation isn’t about forcing yourself into practices that work for someone else. It’s about recognizing what your system responds to, and working with it instead of against it.

Welcome to the Summit of Deck, where science meets goal and you don't have to pick one or the other. Hi, I'm your host, Elena Crocker, osteopathic manual practitioner and wiking after teacher. On the pod, we're talking about body wisdom, energy, intuition, and becoming an expert on your own life. Whether you're looking to find yourself again, create a new version, or see, just here for the results, you're in the right place. I'm here to demystify spiritual curiosities while adding a layer of humanness to the healthcare experience. No gatekeeping, no pedestals. This podcast is for the woman who is ready to take her power back. Let's do it! Hello everyone! Happy Wednesday! For those of you parents who are in the thick of March break, congratulations, you are halfway there. For the rest of us, although I do have kids, but she's in daycare, just another Wednesday. Um, I apologize if you hear and or dogs barking or crazy wind. I am recording in the garage in this like crazy windstorm. Um, so if it feels like we're Dorothy's house headed to Oz, we just might be. So I did a poll on Instagram if you guys were interested in understanding how knowing your astrology could help you regulate your nervous system. And pretty much everyone was like, Yup, sign me up. So that's what we're doing today. We're gonna talk about certain planetary aspects in our birth chart and how we can work with them to understand how we can emotionally regulate and therefore create nervous system tools that actually can work for us. Yay, because I feel like that's a thing, right? Like we're told meditation, journaling, and maybe they're not hitting for you, and maybe today can kind of give you some insight into why that is. I feel like I have to state this every episode. I I am not an expert in this. I am not an astrology expert. I am an expert of nothing, guys. I just live for like maximizing women's lives through teaching practical tools. So today, astrology is just one of them. Um, but I will forever state that I am not an expert in every episode. Oh my god, should I have named this podcast I am not an expert? I bet you that's already a podcast, but okay, ships sailed. I'm gonna think about that for a while. Okay. Firstly, I need you to have generated your birth chart. So if you have not done that or you don't have it easily accessible, I need you to go get it in order for this podcast to hit. So um, if you need instructions on how to do that, to get your birth chart, you need your birth date, you need the time you were born. That's really important. Maybe not down to the minute, but we really need to know AM or PM and your birthplace. And a great site you can do that is Astrology Cafe. So if you haven't done that, pause me, go do that, or if you need your birth chart, pause me, go grab your birth chart and come back. If you have your birth chart and we're ready to roll, the planets that we're gonna be looking at today is the moon, Mars, Venus in your north node. So to break it down even further, we're just we just want to know what element they are. So each zodiac sign, like Virgo, Pisces, Leo, they all fall into an elemental category. So I'm gonna lay out which sign is in each element, and then to make this easy, just write beside your planets what element they are. So on a list, I would probably write downwards Mars, uh, the moon, moon, Mars, Venus, North Node, and then beside it, we're gonna write the elements. So fire signs. Fire signs are Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Earth is Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo, air is Libra, Aquarius, and Gemini, and water is Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. Okay, let's start with our moon sign. So, whatever your wherever house your moon is in, that sign, we want to know what the element is. The moon sign is part of your big three. You've probably heard of your big three before. So the big three are your sun, your moon, and your rising. Your rising can sometimes be called the ascendant, depending on where you printed out your birth chart. It might say rising or it might say ascendant. Everybody knows their sun sign, right? I'm a Leo, nobody is surprised there. And we give a lot of attention to our sun sign. And rightfully so, it does represent our identity and our life force, what fuels us. But I personally feel like we don't give enough attention to our moon sign. And like my personal belief in that way could be because of like what I do for a living. I work with women who are looking for help in health and in life. And typically, when we're looking for those things, we have a nervous system that's out of out of whack. So let's talk about that for a second because I touched on this in episode 10, but I feel like it's really important to talk about why. One of the biggest things people discover when they start doing nervous system work is that not everybody regulates the same way. Some people calm down by talking things out, some people need movement, some people need solitude, some people need connection. And the problem is, most of us were taught that there's one right way to regulate. And I think we all know it: deep breathing, meditation, breath work, journaling. But if you've tried a regulatory practice and like maybe everybody's like, oh yeah, meditation's amazing, it works, but it makes you feel worse, you are not doing it wrong. It's just that it might not work for your elemental placement. So today we're talking about how we can work with our energetic blueprint instead of against it. The moon tells us how we process feelings, what safety feels like, what do we do when we're overwhelmed, what environment restores us? It is what regulates our emotions. So an example are if you're a fire moon, you regulate through movement, expression, and action. If you're an earth moon, you regulate through stability, routine, body grounding. An air moon regulates through talking, thinking, and perspective. And a water moon regulates through emotional processing and connection. So for example, I am a fire sun, I'm a Leo, and I'm a water moon, Scorpio. So what fuels me and my life force, my sun sign, fire, it's aliveness, momentum, and expression. But what regulates me, my water sign, is processing and connection. And as a Leo, I can get really into just like pushing through everything. And if I don't take time to like step back, process, connect, I get really, really burnt out. And I think the issue is we always want to relate everything back to our sun sign. Like I'm a Leo. I should just be able to power through and be bold and be expansive. But as a Scorpio moon, I need so much introspection and time to process how I'm feeling. I used to always say I was a bad Leo. Like before I knew about astrology, I'd be like, I'm a terrible Leo because I actually really am introverted. I'm like an extrovert, extroverted introvert, and I need a lot of alone time. And I never really like identified with my sun sign in that sense. But if we break it down, that alone time is because that's how I emotionally regulate, or that's what I need when I'm dysregulated. I need that alone time. But I would push myself to be like out in at parties and be social because that's like what a Leo should do. But it wasn't until I learned I'm a Scorpio moon, I'm actually a Scorpio moon, Scorpio rising, that I need that alone time in introspection, which I thought was really interesting. It also makes me laugh because for a fire sign, for a fireside moon, powerful, like very intense breath work is a regulatory tool. It's really, really good. You guys, fire moons, you can like jump on that breathwork bandwagon. And if you're listening to this and you're like, but I love breath work, like heavy, intense breath work, you are probably a fire moon. So I once did this like really intense breath work, and guys, it broke me. Like it didn't necessarily break me in a bad way, but the only way I could integrate the craziness like that happened in that breath work is I had to do a deep dive with a girlfriend on what happened and literally talk through the entire process so that I could integrate it. So I was trying to be a Leo when I really needed to be a Scorpio. So again, if you're feeling like the regulatory tools you are using aren't working, I would lean into your moon sign. So signs someone may regulate through fire. You feel better after exercise. You're restless when you're stressed, you need momentum to feel good. Your frustration builds when they feel stuck. So good regular regulatory tools for a fire moon are movement, running, yoga, flow, strength training, doesn't matter. You just have to be moving. Even like in your house, dancing or shaking, like moving your body, breath work with intensity, like a power breathing, like a Wim Hof type breath work, um, creative expression and speaking feelings out loud. So fire regulates through movement. When energy builds in the body, it needs somewhere to go. And I want to pause here for a moment because I know I know all of you are like, I'm not a fire moon, but I regulate through exercise. Do you though? Do you really? Or are you just trying to shut your brain off? Are you actually trying to not feel emotions? Because those are very different things. When I don't want to feel, I work out because all I can focus on is like destroying my body and thinking about the workout. And it took me a really long time to realize that that's numbing, that's not regulating. And I am in no way saying that's a bad thing. I think exercise is great no matter what the purpose, and I think exercise can serve a lot of purposes, but it's important to understand why you exercise. And perhaps it's it's why you're saying, oh, I'm dysregulated, I need movement to regulate. Is it, are you sure? Or is it avoidance? We still might need a regulatory tool. And I'm not saying you have to just jump to that tool and you know dive deep into whatever it is you're trying to avoid. You can use that workout to avoid or get the benefits of like serotonin and oxytocin and that kind of thing when we exercise, but then you still need to figure out what your regulatory tool is. Okay, just some food for thought, my ladies, no judgment. I just really want you to think about that when you jump to exercise as your regulatory tool. Earth signs. Someone signs, someone regulates through earth. Your routine calms them, you'd like you love a routine. You are you don't do well with sensory environments, like specific lighting, noise, um, physical grounding reduces anxiety, and you really love practical steps. So, great regulatory tools for Earth Science is walking outside, gardening or touching soil using your hands, um, warm drinks or nourishing meals. You guys can be big comfort food people, and I'm not saying that that's a bad thing. And then like body-based grounding, so stretching or like massage manual therapy type tools, and just establishing routines. Like I'm just regulated. Hey, I'm gonna write out or figure out what my steps are through this routine. So Earth regulates through stability. When the body feels supported and grounded, your nervous system is gonna follow. Air signs. This is my daughter. She is a Libra moon, and I'm locked in on regulating with my air girlies because this is something I work on every day with my daughter. So air energy regulates through mental processing and communication. Talking things out or gaining perspective helps release internal tension. So, some signs someone regulates through air. You feel better after talking something through. Or journaling helps you organize your thoughts. Perspective shifts can calm them, and silence while racing thoughts can feel overwhelming. Regulation tools. So journaling would be great for you guys. Um, talking with someone you trust, learning or reading. I thought that was interesting because I think sometimes we think that reading can be escapism, but that can be very grounding and regulating for air signs. Um, guided reflection questions. I also love giving guided reflection questions to my air girlies in Reiki. It's just like so helpful for integration. And then breath work that focuses on rhythm. So instead of that like super powerful breath, it's a very like rhythmic breath that doesn't feel as overwhelming or forceful. And I like to bring that up because there are varying types of breath work. So if you're exploring breath work practices, like try on a few before you commit to one because different types of breath work activate the nervous system differently. So if you're a no for breath work, you might just be like a no for that certain type of breath work, or you might be a no totally because that's just not your elemental sign. And lastly, my water moons, like me, we are water. So water energy regulates through emotional processing and connection. Suppressing emotion often dysregulates the system more. So signs, someone regulates through water, emotions move through waves, connection helps them process feelings. Music or art moves emotion through the body. So big like music listeners when you're when you're going through something. Um, suppressing feelings leads to overwhelm. So tools that are great for us, allowing emotions to move. So, number one, that's feeling, but two, that can be crying. You guys can be big cries. I'm the big crier, and we love a good cry, right? It's a release, meditation or quiet reflection, creative outlets, music, art writing. Like music is such a big one for water. Um, connecting with trusted people and time near water. I can't even tell you how clear I become, even just in a warm shower. When I'm super dysregulated, I get in the shower. I used to I was saw the funniest Instagram the other day. Somebody was talking about their partner, and they're like had a tough conversation, and now she's in the shower. Typical, like not in a mean way, just in a laughing way, and I'm like, oh yeah, that's a water moon. And also understand that this is like very basic regulation 101 because each sign sits in a house, and a house pertains to a certain aspect of our lives. So it can become very intricate in which element works in which life situation. But what I want you to take away from this is that if you have not found a regulation tool that's working for you and you're finding it hard to create practices, maybe like start here. What is your element of the moon sign and try something in this list and see how it goes? So, next I want to talk about Mars. So, Mars is your action and your drive. Mars represents how someone takes action, how they pursue goals, how they move their body. So, an example, a fire Mars likes intensity and competition, an Earth Mars likes slow, consistent effort, an air Mars mental stimulation, and a water Mars emotional inspiration. So, Mars, if we're looking at nervous system regulation, Mars is where stuck emotional energy moves. It's how we move that out of our body. So if you're feeling stuck in like aligned action moving forward, if you're a fire Mars, you need movement. So you need to be able to take action, and you actually might need physical exercise movement to get your brain kind of working on how you're gonna take this action. An Earth Mars needs steady productive action, right? We love those plans. An air Mars, talking, planning, problem solving. And a water Mars needs emotional expression and creativity. So, in this sense, if you're stuck with how to move forward, and that's going to start to dysregulate you because the body does not like stuck energy, we have to look at how we are currently trying to take action. And does how we're trying to take action align with how your elemental sign would best move forward taking action? So I would start there. So let's say you're a Virgo, I'm gonna use an example. Let's say you're a Virgo sun. So Virgo Sun, Earth Sun, you love an action plan. It's steady, it's predictable. And maybe you have this idea that you want to pivot your business. So if you're a Virgo sun, but your Mars is a fire sign, you might be fighting an internal battle of how to move forward because your fire, it just wants to take action on the pivot. And because also fire signs like need movement, your body might feel like very restless and uneasy if we're not giving it that movement. But your Earth sign is like, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute. This isn't how we do things. We need to plan it out. So you're almost in a freeze mode and you're stuck. So maybe try leaning into the aspect of being a fire Mars, and it's like, hey, this is wild for me, but I'm just gonna go after it. All of a sudden you have this huge unblock and you can move that energy. And I want to flip it and I want to talk about Venus. So, because Venus, so if Mars is how we take action, Venus is how we receive and how we regulate through pleasure. So Venus often in like typical astrology gets reduced to like love, relationships, but it's actually how we experience nourishment, and that connects to joy, beauty, pleasure, connection, creative flow. And these are all essential for our nervous system repair. So a fire Venus loves adventure and excitement. That is how you replenish. An Earth Venus, it's like sensory experiences, food, nature. An air Venus loves conversation and learning, and a water Venus loves emotional intimacy and connection. So if Mars moves energy out of the system, Venus is often what fills the system back up, and we need both. So if we I don't think we think about this aspect enough, especially as we get older and time honestly feels like a luxury. We're not really thinking about okay, with this time we have, like what truly replenishes us? My Venus is in cancer, so I'm a water Venus. I need emotional connection to replenish, which is wild because the first thing I will cut out of my busy schedule is social time. So I have, I'm gonna call her a business coach. She is like so much more than that. Her name is Emma Jack. She owns Press Play with Emma. If you need a coach, she's your gal. I'm gonna link her in the show notes. She'll change your life. But she ran a workshop in the new year where you did like an inventory of the past year and to set yourself up for 2026. I went into it thinking, okay, I'm gonna map out my downfalls in business and figure out how I can fix them to accelerate my business in 2026. Which, like, yes, you do come out of that. But Emma is so, she's so good because she understands that like you're hu you're a human first. And there's so many aspects of life that need to fill you up and fuel you to be able to have this the business that you want in the style that you want. So the biggest aha moment I came out of this that had nothing to do with like growth, growth in like business numbers and that kind of thing. It was that I need female friendships and connection to keep me from burning out and to stop my burnout cycle. And that, guys, is my Venus and water. And I didn't know I had a Venus and water until like a month ago. So my energetic system knew exactly what I needed to replenish before my astrology told me where to look. Emma just had the words and the tools to get that out of me. Through writing about like reflecting on my past year. But really, it's like leaning into your astrology is like a cheat code or like a shortcut into finding out all this information and how to work with it. I just think that's so cool. Lastly, you want to talk about your north node. Your north node is your life lesson. Your north node is what you come into this lifetime trying to learn or succeed at. So your self node, I know I didn't list list your self node, but you can just go look at it. Your south node is your comfort zone. It's actually your north node from a past life. It's what you mastered in your past life. So our south node tends to be our default, our comfort zone. Our north node shows us the patterns that feel unfamiliar, but they're necessary for our growth. And they're not easy. They challenge us in the ways we've learned how to stay safe, but it's a big part of our sole purpose in this lifetime. So most people don't avoid growth because they don't know what to do. They avoid it because it doesn't feel safe in their body. And in that sense, we're kind of going against nervous system regulation. But it's really important that we do lean into our north node so that we can do, see, be, feel all the things we meant to do in this lifetime. And I think that's what's interesting about the nervous system piece is okay, if we know to push our comfort zone with our north node, we know our moon element and we can come back to regulating our nervous system when we're going to kind of like push our barriers in terms of our north node. So a fire north node, you guys are learning to trust action. Fire north node is learning how to move towards life without waiting for certainty. You're just going. So these people who are put being pushed to be a fire north node, you guys are typically you overthink. So you are past air sign, you overanalyze, you wait for the right time, you stay in observation instead of action. So your growth edge, your north node, you're in, you're you're learning to initiate, take risks, being seen, and trusting instinct over logic. Action feels activating, and sometimes in your bodies that can feel unsafe. But understand that that staying still creates stagnation for you, and that's also uncomfortable. So this is someone who learns that clarity comes after movement, not before it. And that's very challenging for you guys. Your Earth North Nodes, you guys are learning to create stability. Earth North Node is learning how to build a life that actually supports you. So these people often live in emotion, they live in ideas, or they live in a bit of chaos. They struggle with consistency, they avoid structure, they feel overwhelmed in the physical world. So your growth edge, guys, is routine, follow-through, boundaries, grounded decision making. Structure can feel restrictive at first, but it's actually what creates safety. So that structure is going to feel uncomfy, but if you stick with it, it's what's going to create safety and regulation. This is someone who learns that freedom comes from stability, not from the absence of it. Air north nodes are learning to open and share. An air north node is learning that you're not meant to do life alone. So these people often isolate, they internalize everything, they feel like they have to figure things out on their own, and they struggle to express what they're feeling. So your guy's growth edge, number one, communication. Number two, asking for help. Number three, perspective, and number four, collaboration. Being seen and heard can feel vulnerable to you. But if you stay silent, it's going to keep you stuck in that own loop that you keep coming up against. So this is someone who learns that clarity often comes through connection. And lastly, water north node, it's learning to feel. So a water north node is learning how to actually be in your emotional body. So these people often disconnect from emotion, they stay in logic or productivity, they avoid vulnerability, and they override their intuition. So the growth edge here, guys, is emotional awareness, intuition, lean into it, vulnerability, and slowing down. That feels uncomfy. Feeling can feel overwhelming or unfamiliar, but if we avoid feeling, it keeps the system dysregulated underneath. So this is someone who learns that emotions are not a problem to fix, they're something to move through, which is like so characteristic of water, right? So that's all I got for you today, guys. I used a little twist on astrology, maybe different than how you typically use it, on how to support our nervous systems. And I've been working with this stuff myself. I've been helping the women in my intuitive health coaching program work with it, and I've seen some really, really awesome results. Uh, if you like this episode, heck, if you liked any episode, please let me know. Write a review. Five stars preferably. I'm just kidding.
