I'm Dr. Britney Richardson, licensed acupuncturist, integrated postcrategist, and wellness coach. Here, we talk real quick. No for your coding, just call it like it is conversational. Some are hard, some are hopeful, but they're all necessary because being rich isn't about doing more or pushing harder. It's about having the capacity, resilience, and clarity to live your life fully on your card. This is Ask Dr. Be Rich, a space where I answer common questions, not with protocols or instructions, but with perspective. And today's question comes up often when I see someone who starts improving their habits or experimenting with some type of detox approach. They begin eating differently, and maybe they remove certain foods or drink more water or try a supplement that's meant to enhance detox, and then something unexpected happens. They feel worse. Sometimes it's a headache that shows up after changing your diet or your energy dips for a few days, and other times it can be a skin reaction that has no apparent reason where it came from. It can feel very confusing, and the assumption is that healthier choices should make your body feel better immediately. But that's not always true. When the opposite happens, people often assume that something must be wrong. In wellness conversations, it usually gets explained by saying toxins are leaving the body. And there's a small truth to that explanation, but it misses an important part of what's actually happening. What usually changes first is movement. And as circulation improves and your tissues that have been relatively stagnant begin exchanging fluid and nutrients more actively, those materials were already present in the body and now they're becoming mobilized. They weren't circulating before and now they are. Once that circulation shifts, the body has to process whatever is now moving through the once that material starts to show up, the body still needs to determine which direction it needs to. It's trying to figure out what needs to be sorted, what gets metabolized, and what eventually gets eliminated. TCM tends to describe this process through language of direction. Something has to circulate before the body can separate what it needs from what it doesn't need to keep. And if circulation increases faster than your elimination pathways are able to keep up with, you can experience some temporary symptoms. A simple way to picture this is think about what happens when you start cleaning a cluttered room. At first, the space looks really bad. Things that you might have had tucked away in a drawer or in the closet are suddenly scattered all over the place. And even though nothing new was added to the room, you're seeing more of what was already there. It was just hidden. And your body can behave in improved circulation, reveals things that were previously less new. It's hard to really make sense of it, but if you really think closely, your energy goes where your attention, or however that's your body is trying to make very intelligent decisions about where to focus its energy and processes. These shifts usually settle once movement and elimination come back into balance. And TCM pays close attention to that balance. Instead of forcing detox aggressively, put your focus on helping your body move and release at a pace it can manage. If circulation improves gradually and elimination pathways are functioning well, then the process will feel much. You'll notice that you're able to think more clearly, your digestion feels more steady, and your energy feels more consistent once that coordination returns. So if someone begins making changes and they feel temporarily worse, it doesn't necessarily mean that their approach is harmful. It might just mean that circulation has shifted and your body is adjusting. But the more useful question usually is is your body able to release what's detox isn't just about mobilizing toxins. It's about whether or not your system can complete the process once movement begins. And that makes a lot more sense of what people experience when they start changing their health habits.
