Hey, hey, everybody! It's John Murphy, your Make 100 Healthy Guy.
SPEAKER_03And sweet Angel Cecilia.
SPEAKER_01And we are the host and the co-host of the Make 100 Healthy Club, the club that everyone wants to be part of, to live a life to 100 years or more with health, happiness, and purpose. And that's what we delve into. We are coming to you live from the Cast 11 studios and streaming on platforms worldwide. Cecilia, I have to tell you, last week we discovered the clips. I didn't know we had access to them. And so we've been putting out little clips of our show. Pretty powerful. There's a lot of great nougats in what we put out.
SPEAKER_03And well, here's the thing, John. People honestly, a lot of people don't have time to spend an hour with us. You know, I know if you do, I know, I know. Of course. But if they don't have time to listen to the whole podcast, which they should do in the evening or on the weekend, they can listen to these little clips of they're just amazing.
SPEAKER_01And and so uh we invite you to join our club. It's totally free. You go to make100healthy.com forward slash club. Now it's a work in progress.
SPEAKER_03Right, right.
SPEAKER_01Okay, and uh, but what we plan on doing is having a daily memes of inspiration uh to go over all the areas of balance. We also want to give you a Make 100 Healthy longevity course, which we're working on right now. So uh this is the club that we aspire to live to a higher level, to really embrace life fully. You know, Make 100 Healthy is the you know the goal. But if I live to 96 and every day is a great day, I'll be fine with that.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_01So it's to live every life, everyday life with purpose. Uh, we want to thank our sponsors. Uh and we have two particular sponsors that I want to spotlight. First of all, Finley Subaru.
SPEAKER_03Wow. And you know my angel car is a Subaru.
SPEAKER_01I do know that, and that's a good synergy. Uh, we want to thank uh you know Jason and Cara from Finley Subaru. They have not only sponsored our show, they've sponsored us all year long for our Prescott Food Forest at Be Organic Farmer Healthy Healing Garden. And uh they're going to be sponsoring our Rock the Garden Open Golf Tournament, and they're giving away a lease on a car. So we thank you so much. And our next uh sponsor is Rocks Media and uh Lori Fisher and the family of magazines, Prescott Living, Prescott Healthy Living, Prescott Now, and so many more uh magazines. Uh we have a sponsorship and a partnership for the whole year. So we thank you very much. So let's get right into it, Cecilia. Let's talk about last week's show and uh some of the main things. We had some great guests last week, and we had big news with Maha. So let's let's just recap last week's show before we get into today's topics.
SPEAKER_03There's there's so many things that are going on. It's just amazing to me that you know we do this. Right, you know, I haven't seen you in a week, and here we are, and then so many things are happening. But um, and the and our guests, I've been telling everybody about, I want to say Ben Hur. Is that how you say it? Rob Ben Huri.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, he's great. He's gonna help us uh form the healthy healing herb garden up at the Bee Organic Farm. And uh that was a great, another great God moment.
SPEAKER_03Wow, just amazing. And then the other thing that I have to tell you when you talk about Make America Healthy Again, and I don't know if you saw this, but did you see Robert Kennedy and Kid Rock and they were exercising?
SPEAKER_01So, you know, in case you haven't figured it out, we are great fans and we are just really living uh embodiments of the Maha movement. Make America healthy again. That's what we're all about. You're not gonna live to 100 unless you're healthy, right? And so we got to see a video. It was called the Rock Out Workout, and it was Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who's got a sick body for a guy who's seven years old, and Kim Rock looked pretty good too. And uh it just goes to show you, and what I liked about that was not only it was them, but they were together. So uh part of the reason for us having our club is to be accountability partners, to be, you know, to be there for you and to hold you accountable for you, to hold me accountable.
SPEAKER_03Well, and it doesn't matter if you're in your 20s or your 30s or your 40s or 50s, it doesn't matter what age you are. No. Because Bobby Kennedy, let me tell you what, you know, like you said, he's pushing it up there. But Kid Rock is a guy that, you know, probably in his 20s, 30s, 40s.
SPEAKER_01No, no, he's he's close to 50.
SPEAKER_03But but when he was in his 20s, 30s, and 40s, he probably abused his body a little bit. So if he can come back and start making himself Kid Rock's awesome, he's a patriot.
SPEAKER_01And yes, he went through, you know, just like most rock stars. Yeah, you know, I remember Glenn Fry, the great uh lead singer, the the late great uh singer of the Eagles. And uh he passed away in his 60s, and he said he was done in by too many beers, burgers, and broads. I think he might have said blows.
SPEAKER_03So, anyway, there's so many great things going on out there, John. And the thing is, is that for me, anyway, and I know for a lot of people in our audience as well, is that we need that inspiration every day. Of course. Because I try, but I'm not perfect. And so when I get inspired and I remember the things that you have said, or the clips that you know, we just saw that clip of Vicky Johnston that was one of our guest speakers. That's great. And and and when I see that, it inspires me. I can do this. I can do this.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Well, it's like Roger Bannister, the four-minute mile. Right. Okay. It was said that it was humanly impossible for a man to beat the four-minute mile.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And once he did it, 20 or 30 other people did it, and it's now easy to be done. It's a standard. So let's get right into it. Uh, it's, you know what time it is, Cecilia?
SPEAKER_03Is it grow time?
SPEAKER_01It's grow time.
SPEAKER_03I love grow time.
SPEAKER_01And a lot of times when we uh talk about grow time, we talk about growing ourselves emotionally, physically. But today we're gonna talk about growing food and getting uh back to nature, back to basics, and talking about the fine art of growing food. And with us is a great guest, Wendy Lancey. Wendy, it is so good to see you and welcome to the Make 100 Healthy Club podcast.
SPEAKER_02Good morning, John and Cecilia. Thank you so much for having me join you this morning. It's our pleasure. You're welcome. This is so exciting. There's so many things to talk about.
SPEAKER_01Wendy is a great person, and we're gonna have her on two segments today. Uh she's gonna be also a part of the Arlene's Angel spotlight a little later in the show. But right now, she's on as the new director of our charity golf tournament, the Rock the Garden Open. And uh as it becomes uh evolve, as it's evolving, Wendy's taking up uh a lead role in as being administrator for the Prescott Food Forest because the Rock the Garden Open charity event is to raise money for our program. So thank you for all you're doing. You've been a Godsend and a god uh person to me. And so talk about when I called you to take on the position of director of the tournament. What was your first thought?
SPEAKER_03You can't say no to this guy.
SPEAKER_02You know, you can't say no to him. I am grateful to have been friends, John, with you for many years now. And we've worked together on other fundraisers, um, raising money for the community. And so, quite honestly, I, you know, I do a lot of project work. Yeah. And I was just had just finished a project and was really praying about okay, God, what what's the next step? What's the next thing, you know, that you want to use me for? And John calls, the phone rings, and I was like, thank you, God.
SPEAKER_01Wow, here we are. And you were so um positive about it, and we jumped into it together. And uh, you know, our styles really complement each other. Uh I think so.
SPEAKER_03But this is coming up. I mean, this is coming up pretty soon, right?
SPEAKER_02It is. And you know, for the Be Organic Farm in Chino Valley, Arizona, that's the organic farm we operate from. Right. And John has designed, and with some other partners, has designed some gardening courses. Right. The goal is to help people learn how to grow their own food. When you're growing it in your backyard, you know where it came from, right? Right. You know it's organic because you didn't put those pesticides on it. Right. But a lot of us don't know how to do that. Right. Right, right. You know, we see that the the fresh produce in the grocery store, but we don't know how to make that ourselves.
SPEAKER_03But and nothing is better, Wendy, than growing like a little tomato plant, a little cherry tomato plant. My husband and I did that. And then when you get the little tomatoes and you pick it, and that first bite, unbelievable. It doesn't taste anything like in the grocery stores.
SPEAKER_02It's amazing, you know, and it brings back for me memories of, you know, a lot of my family, you know, are farmers in Idaho.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02And my grandmother always had a garden, as most of my relatives do. Sure. Sure. There's always a bucket and a little hand shovel next to the back door. It'd be dinner time, and she'd say, Okay, go get some potatoes, go get some tomatoes, zucchini. You walk out the back door, you grab your little bucket and shovel, and you go pick the food fresh and eat it right then. Right, right.
SPEAKER_01So, you know, that is what it's all about. And our Gardeners of Destiny training program, it's a six-week course, and we have some wonderful instructors. You know, I'm humbly very proud of the fact that I'm an associate master gardener. I took the 17-week class, and because of that, I've been introduced to so many other great Master Gardeners, LaRoy Miller, so many others. So we have an all-star cast of teachers starting March 7th. That's gonna be pretty close to this air date, probably. So um, if you want to be involved, if you're local, go to Prescott Foodforest.com and you can become part of our class. We're also, Wendy and I are working on making this an internet deal so we can have micro content and class content that we can share. What are your thoughts on you know, expanding the whole gardening thing so everybody can learn how to garden, not just people in our area?
SPEAKER_02It's really important and it's easy once you know how. So you sign up for our six-week gardening class, and you're gonna learn everything from prepping the soil to fertilizing without pesticides that are harmful to harvesting, canning, preserving the whole life cycle of food. Yes. Um, and even if you're not here in Prescott, Arizona, look for a community garden in your area.
SPEAKER_01That's right.
SPEAKER_02Or start one. Yeah, yeah. And these are called victory gardens.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, so as you know, when I started the Make 100 Healthy Foundation, it was to reduce obesity, diabetes, and just overall good health. And so our original thought was that we want to help inspire our fellow Americans to grow one million new Victory Gardens across the country. And we're doing that. The Victory Garden Family Program is something that we are actively trying to get people to learn how to grow food so they can start their own garden. It can be container gardening, it could be raised bed, it could be changed. Maybe it's just some herbs.
SPEAKER_03Maybe it's just some herbs, you know. Maybe you grow some, you know, herbs.
SPEAKER_01It's a lost art form.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And so back you talked about your grandma that that was probably a victory garden in the sense that uh during World War II, it was a patriotic duty to grow your own food. And that was really something that was so popular. And I often say, then in the 50s, fast food, McDonald's, you know, and then in the 70s and 80s, high fructose corn syrup. And here we are, two-thirds of our people are overweight. It's terrible.
SPEAKER_03Obese and sick. We in America, we're the sickest nation in the world.
unknownHow did that happen?
SPEAKER_02You know, and well, we because we moved away from growing your own food to fast food.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And so if you start changing your mindset, fast food is a carrot. Fast food is an apple on the run. You know, fast food is some celery. That's right. Start shifting your mind to fast food as fresh, real food. Yep.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, fast food sounds kind of cool and upbeat, but ultra-processed food sounds terrible. And thank goodness that the powers that be, and even in our media, are saying ultra-processed food. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said eat real food. What a concept.
SPEAKER_02And that's back to basics. Isn't that common sense? That's what we did before fast food was invented. You know, that's right. We're eating real food. And that's what we're promoting. Grow your food, know where it comes from. That's right. Eat real food. You know, and if you don't have that garden and you don't have something ready to harvest right now, go to your local farmers' market.
SPEAKER_01That's right. We have a great one here. Prescute Farmers Market's very good.
SPEAKER_02It is, and many communities have them. Um, they're local farms, you know where the food's coming from. Many of them are good organic, right? So they're not using glyphosate and those harmful pesticides. Right. So you're actually getting real food.
SPEAKER_03And you know what? I don't know what it is about going to the farmer's market, but it just makes you feel, I don't know, it makes you feel healthy. You're you're around like-minded people, everybody's socializing. You know what?
SPEAKER_01I never I never mind spending money at the farmer's market because not only am I getting the healthiest locally grown food, I'm helping to stimulate the local economy and support these producers that many are just struggling to get by. And so the bottom line is there's so many reasons to buy local if you can't grow your own food. But obviously, growing your own food is really what we want to give the next generation. That's why we call it the Gardeners of Destiny training program, because we want to train the next generation of gardeners to be uh efficient, fluid, knowledgeable, and growing in their own food. And, you know, it's been proven.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but John, I've got to say something though. People that are in their 60s and 70s and 80s, and they have these beautiful homes and backyards and everything, but they it's hard for them to go out there.
SPEAKER_01Don't you have something like the God squad that's well, you know, one of the things that we have just introduced, very good Cecilia.
SPEAKER_03I love this. I love this idea.
SPEAKER_01So we have our foundation and we do education, and then we have the gardening program, and then we have graduates that go through to get a certificate. Well, guess what? We have a little, we had a missing piece, and that was helping those in the community that can't do it themselves or don't know how to do it. So we have just unveiled a pilot program, and it's called the God Squad Corps. And our core, like you know, like the Peace Corps, uh, so is uh our way of giving back. So we have just announced the pilot program. What when do you want to talk about it?
SPEAKER_02Sure, it's a great program. These people will be paid. The God Squad people will get paid. That's our part part of this program is economic opportunity. Correct. And so those who complete the six-week gardening course and get their certificate will be eligible to be part of the God squad. What that means is there are people in our community, like you said, right, they may not be able to continue managing their home garden. They may need some help with weeding or with some planting or harvesting, or maybe they've got fruit trees that just grow in abundance, way more food than they're gonna eat.
SPEAKER_03And that food drops on the sidewalk and there's nobody to pick it up. Exactly. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02And we don't want that to go to waste. No, and we've we've done that, yeah. Yeah, so we're gonna send out those people in our community can contact us. Okay, we'll send out two people at a time for a two-hour time slot. This is our God squad, and they're going to go and help those home gardeners with the weeding or the planting and the harvesting, the physical labor. If they've got an abundance of fruit on their trees, our God squad team can go out, harvest that fruit, and then donate it back to our community through our local food banks and our churches.
SPEAKER_03Get the message out to them because I know, you know, just walking in the older part of the Greater Prescott region. Um, I know that there's a lot of people there in their 70s and 80s and 90s. They're not on Facebook, though. How do we get the message out to them about the God Squad?
SPEAKER_02You know, and you're absolutely correct. Put a flyer on their door, that might be one avenue. But a lot of them read traditional newspapers and traditional magazines. That's right. And we're so grateful to have those partners like Talking Glass Media, Rocks Media that are putting out those magazines and newspapers, the courier.
SPEAKER_01We just recently did an interview promoting this.
SPEAKER_02So it's in addition to education and awareness. In addition to online social media and on our website, pressgetfoodforest.com, okay. We're also using those local print sources that a lot of our a lot of our community still uses and relies on. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So let's do a call out right now. If you would like to make some money by helping others, uh, you have to first of all be qualified. You have to go to our six-week Gardeners of Destiny training program. It starts March 7th. If you want to start on the 14th, we'll extend it a week uh because of timeline. But you you you can get the program, uh, a six-week course for free if you give 10 hours of volunteer time on the farm. And Wendy, that's a win-win program too, right?
SPEAKER_03So it does not cost if you volunteer. That's right.
SPEAKER_02This is a$199 value. We've got to get this message out. But all you have to do is volunteer 10 hours of your time during that six-week course, and the course is completely free.
SPEAKER_01So, what we've done because of our sponsors and because of our donors and supporters that have really given us so much fuel, we we launched this program. So at you know,$100 a shot, we have at least 50 um visits that we can do. Um and if and we can do a lot more. We want to see how it goes. Uh, it's not just people that can't do it. How about a spouse that has passed? And so now you have a widow. She has the garden, but she can't do it. Right. This is now let me ask you a question.
SPEAKER_03I was walking somewhere the other day, and there were these young cute kids in front of me, and on the back of their jackets it said FFA, Future Farmers of America. Are they here in this area at the colleges or something? We I'll go talk to them about this.
SPEAKER_02I believe we do have Future Farmers of America at our local high schools. Okay. And at the Be Organic Farm and our gardening classes, families are welcome. Okay. Bring the kids. That's part of the message. Let's teach our future generations. Okay. We definitely want the kids and the students to get involved. And this is a great economic opportunity, maybe for some of those college students. Right. You know, they could use an extra$50,$100 to put some gas in their absolutely.
SPEAKER_01And we have had students from Embry Riddle, Trinity Christian School. And so it's been a great thing. And I think that the God Squad is going to be the catalyst to really amplify and accelerate all our efforts. And one of the ways we've done that is that we've had this annual golf tournament, the Rock the Garden Open. And uh it's a charity golf tournament. Wendy, why do you talk about that as we wrap up our segment?
SPEAKER_02It's coming up here in Prescott, Arizona, April 28th at the club at Prescott Lakes. It's a private course, so it's a great opportunity to go and play a beautiful course that you don't have access to every day. Uh, very affordable for a good cause. The money we raise there supports the Be Organic Farm and the Prescott Food Forest efforts. And so we're looking for sponsors. We need players, and you can register at Prescott Foodforest.com forward slash rock on. Okay. We've got rock bands, we've got totally reckless and all she wrote.
SPEAKER_01Excuse me, truly reckless and all she wrote. We have DJs, we have awards, we have a great.
SPEAKER_02Is there something about a car with winning a car? That is thanks to our generous partners and sponsors, Finley Subaru, right here in the Prescott area. On one of the holes, if you hit a hole in one, then the pro grand prize is a brand new car. It's a three-year lease on that brand new car. Oh my God.
SPEAKER_01Oh my God.
SPEAKER_03Where's my golf club?
SPEAKER_01The Rock the Garden Open happens on April 28th. Uh and Wendy, we're going to have you back on the show later for more of your heart and your soul. And thank you for everything you're doing. Uh, we'll see you in a second. And uh, why don't you check out some highlights from last year's Rock the Garden Open?
SPEAKER_04A little bit of bell, and we're gonna be able to do that.
SPEAKER_01A lot of fun for a great cause, and you're helping not only. Our Prescott Food Forest, but our God Squad and our community efforts. Moving right on to the heart of the matter.
SPEAKER_03And the heart of the matter today, we are going to be talking about water. And it it's just, I mean, isn't it common sense that you drink good, pure, clean water?
SPEAKER_01Well, you know, hydration and dehydration plagues more people than we ever imagine. People that have brain fog, people that they're they feel inflamed and their muscles and joints are tight. A lot of times it's because they're dehydrated. And by drinking coffee, by drinking these energy drinks, and by drinking processed uh sodas and juices, we're not helping ourselves hydrate, are we?
SPEAKER_03And you know, John, with my company Visiting Angels, we go into people's homes, you know, they're in their 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s. We've got a few that are in their hundreds. Good. We want more. And it is so hard for us to get them to drink water, you know, and we try to tell them, you know, you need to drink your water every day. But here's what I found out about, I don't know, it was 10 or 15 years ago because I grew up, we were drinking water out of our garden hose back in, you know, back in the day. Well, now you can't do that because these pipes are corroded, they're cracked, they're there's stuff that's seeping in.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah, that's why we have our good friend uh Vicky Johnston from the H2O Health Store filtering people's water. Right, right. But I think part of the problem is that people just, because they're so used to these drinks with such additive flavors, they they feel that water has no taste. There's nothing good.
SPEAKER_03Additive flavors, John, are chemicals. Why would you have chemicals in your body?
SPEAKER_01Well, because they taste good. Okay, because they're easy and they're convenient. So today's heart of the matter focus and our to-do try-out list for you at home is to take the most natural drink out there, water, get good filtered water, and you can add things to it that not only make it taste better, but make it healthier. What's the number one uh element that we can add to water and make it taste sweet?
SPEAKER_03Oh, my healthy. My I I've got so many that I love, but number one, strawberries. Add fresh, organic, slice them really thin, add them to your water, put that in overnight, and the next morning you get up and you taste that. We call that infused. Oh my god, it tastes so, so good. And then I used to go to um in Phoenix when I worked down there in the valley, there were big resorts, beautiful, beautiful resorts, and they used to have water with sliced cucumbers. So I tried that at home. Same thing, sliced organic. Take off that skin, slice it real thin, put the cucumber in the water, put it in your refrigerator, and the next morning when you're running out the door, you grab that cucumber water and it is divine.
SPEAKER_01And you know, the cucumber is not only hydrating, it's the detoxifying. So now you're adding the elements to the water.
SPEAKER_03Let me tell you something, you're gonna laugh at me. And so at about the middle of the day, when I've drank all of my water, I'm stressed, I'm tired. Take some of those cucumbers out and eat them. They are delicious.
SPEAKER_01That's pretty good.
SPEAKER_03Add a little of that Celtic sock to them.
SPEAKER_01So that's good. So another one that is really very good for you is honey. Um, honey water. I actually drink honey water at night and I bring it into my wife.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01And we sip that before we go to bed.
SPEAKER_03Now, do you make it warm? Do you warm the water up or do you sip it just?
SPEAKER_01Well, um, you could do both. I like it warm.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01But you know, it it is um it's also hydrating and it's also good for your soul.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_01Lemon.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Lemon water is probably very popular.
SPEAKER_03That's probably really good.
SPEAKER_01And another one that is really, really healthy is ginger.
SPEAKER_03I've never tried ginger.
SPEAKER_01Ginger is very good. I mean, it's it's got great properties on it.
SPEAKER_03But does it have a little bit of a bite to it? A little bit of a little bit of a bite to it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And here's one that I love because at our farm, we planted mint. And mint is great, but guess what? It's predatory. If you put mint in a garden, before you know it, you'll have a whole bunch of garden. Yes. So I took some of the mint and I make mint tea. I will boil it, I will let it steep, and I will put it in a glass jar and I'll sip it. It is so good.
SPEAKER_03So refreshing. So fresh.
SPEAKER_01So uh those are a few.
SPEAKER_03And those are inexpensive, John. You know, one day I was at the store one day, and there was a young young kid in there, he was working in there, and I was looking for some celery. And I said, I need some organic celery. Um, and he goes, Well, I wish I could afford to buy organic. Wow. And I said, and I said to him, Cancer costs a lot more.
SPEAKER_01Well, you know what they say, you can pay us now. Yes. Or you can pay us later.
SPEAKER_03Exactly.
SPEAKER_01And again, we're gonna get back to why do they call things organic? Why is it just not real food? Why is it not like they do enrich flour? I mean, you know, why is it organic? It should be the standard.
SPEAKER_03It's been marketing the last 30, 40 years. Like you see stuff that says all natural. That's crazy. So read the ingredients.
SPEAKER_01That's right. So uh our advice, our tip today, our make 100 healthy longevity tip of the day is to drink real water and try some of these different additives that will not only be refreshing, like for example, the mint is also a digestive. So you're actually helping heal your body by staying hydrated. You want to put a little Celtic salt in to open up your cells, that's fine. But these are some really cool tips that will help you feel good, uh, stay uh, you know, flush out all the toxins in your body, and also to give yourself good cellular health and to be hydrated. So that's our tip for today. And it's time to take a deep breath. You know, uh our segment is called Take a Deep Breath. Why? Because in this fast-paced world, we never do this. We're always running, we're gunning. Cecilia's got to get out of here in like 10 minutes because she's got a meeting with a CEO. We're always on the road on the go. And I like that because I'm a hyperactive guy. But you know what? It's not good for your nervous system. And last week we spoke about the power and the challenge of being completely silent for 30 minutes or more. And the whole idea is that it's a manifestation of your thoughts. If you are still, if you're quiet, and you just take time for 30 minutes? At least 30 minutes.
SPEAKER_03Have you ever done that, John? Well, guess what, Cecilia?
SPEAKER_01No, I just did it, and I'm here to report on my findings and what I experienced. So uh I laid in my bed uh and I uh just was quiet and I looked out at the at the uh nature outside, I closed my eyes, and I just let myself be still. And I swear to you, I believe that I started opening up my third eye. The third eye is your pineal gland, which we will do a whole show on what our pineal gland is, but it is known as your third eye because it's a perception. They they say we have five senses, six senses, we have 40 senses. Wow, and most of them have been calcified, our pineal glands, uh, intensely through our diet, the the 5G, all these things. But for me to be quiet, you're right, for 30 minutes without looking at my phone, without listening to music, to not do anything.
SPEAKER_03Were you able to do that?
SPEAKER_01I intentionally uh breathed deeply.
SPEAKER_04Okay.
SPEAKER_03Well, you know what, John? I have a very good friend, and um I I have been just so blessed to have so many amazing people around me. But her name's Dr. Elaine Kissle. Sure. She's hypnotherapist and she's well known throughout the world. Um, but her book was called Mind Mastery, and I can tell you when I read her book, um, and and it's online now if anybody wants to read it, but that is what she taught is hypnotherapy, and that's what you were doing with hypnotherapy.
SPEAKER_01Well, I wasn't doing that, I I just wanted to be quiet for 30 minutes, and uh it was a challenge, but I think I went about 40 minutes.
SPEAKER_04Wow, good for you!
SPEAKER_01I felt refreshed, I felt renewed, and I'm gonna make time to do it a couple of times a week. So, you know, as we always say with our tips here, most of them don't cost any money. Right, or little, like buying mint or lemon. Um, this just took the time. And I know as an entrepreneur, as a man who's always uh trying to make things happen, it's almost foreign to me to be still, to be quiet. But like anything else, if you go, go, go all the time, you will burn out.
SPEAKER_03Right, right.
SPEAKER_01So taking the time to sleep seven to nine hours a day, taking the time to intentionally breathe, to give your body the oxygen it needs, to be able to just be still. Well, the manifestation comes towards the end of that when the most important things come into your mind because you've decluttered.
SPEAKER_03Right, right. And think the thing is, John, you taught me about how to take deep breaths, and and I love your analogy about smoking a cigarette. I still still remember that.
SPEAKER_01But I don't advocate smoking cigarettes. I said that the taking a deep drag is one of the things that cigarette smoking emulates.
SPEAKER_03But anyway, now what I am doing is that when I I'm driving my car, and every time I come to a stop sign, I take a deep breath and I think about you, and I think about at a stop sign. You can take a deep breath.
SPEAKER_01You know, we're saying we're taking a deep breath. It's another one of the old mantras is stop and smell the roses. You know, uh, the most precious time of your life is right now because we don't know what we have. Yesterday was history, tomorrow's a mystery. So live for today. And being still is something that I'm working on. I'm sure that many of our viewers and listeners also say, I don't know if I can do that. I didn't think I could do it, but I did. And uh and I was only able to accomplish that because I consciously did my deep breathing exercise through my nose, letting it out through my mouth and just letting my body relax. And so that is really one of the reasons why we need to take a deep breath. And as we move on, uh, our favorite uh segment, my favorite segment, is called the Arlene Angel Spotlight, brought to you by visiting angels and the Make 100 Healthy Foundation. This um spotlight is to pay honor and tribute to my mom, Arlene, who was a teacher. She was a gardener, she was a giver, she was uh a lover of God, and she was the one that set the example for me on what was important. You were so blessed. I was blessed.
SPEAKER_03You were so blessed to have a role model like your.
SPEAKER_01And I was blessed to have great two great parents because Arlene's Angel was my dad, as we talk about. But you know, when we talk about the angels in our community, well, we just had one on. Wendy Lancey is back. And Wendy, it is my honor to make you this week's Arlene's Angel spotlight recipient. Because uh from when I've met you to now, there's never been a moment that I felt anything self-serving in you. I always feel that your heart is led by helping others. And I want to commend you for that and thank you for that. And I wanted to ask you, how did you become that person?
SPEAKER_02Well, thank you, John. Thank you first for such an honor. Um, I appreciate that very much. And you know, I think you know, I used to be, I've had corporate jobs, I've been an entrepreneur, I've been self-employed in all those things. And in each endeavor, you learn a little bit more about yourself. I have been involved in volunteering for quite a long time. And over the years, you know, God has helped me realize that my purpose on this earth is serving others.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_02And I'm so grateful for an amazing community, especially here in Prescott, Arizona, but in my previous community as well, that there are just so many opportunities. And, you know, it sounds like maybe a cliche, you know, you get more than you give, but it really is true. Absolutely. The more that I help and serve other people, the more I feel blessed. Um, so volunteering and serving the community has just really become who I am. And when did you move to this region and why? Well, uh I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. Um, grew up there, went to school, went to college, all those things. Um, moved away for a number of years with job transfers. And then about six years ago, my husband and I decided it was time to get back to Arizona, get back closer to the family.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02Um, we had been up here to Prescott many, many times over the years and just love this community. And so now we're here back in Arizona, back in Prescott, closer to the family and involved in the community.
SPEAKER_03We are so lucky to have her in.
SPEAKER_01Well, Wendy, let me just toot your horn for you a little bit. Wendy uh joined Frontier Rotary and uh was a Rotarian before that. Right?
SPEAKER_02Uh this is my 19th year in Rotary. Okay.
SPEAKER_01And the Rotary Club here in Prescott, uh, there's three of them, uh, but the Frontier Rotary seems to be the biggest at the moment, is that correct?
SPEAKER_03And that's when you reached out to me. I remember that's when you reached out to me. Yes.
SPEAKER_02I'm passionate about getting people involved, getting the community, bringing people together. And so in our Rotary Club, you know, the the position I fill is uh director of service projects. So throughout the community, through Rotary, uh, we do about 25 to 30 projects a year. Amazing work serving our community. And one of those is Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
SPEAKER_03Imagination Library.
SPEAKER_02That's an amazing program. And a lot of the fundraising we do, we donate money to that. And that is a program that children from newborn to age five can get a free book in the mail every month. Every month.
SPEAKER_01That is such a great uh habit builder, correct?
SPEAKER_02It is. We start reading at a very young age. You start by reading to your children, and then as they start learning to read, they read to you. And reading is that lifelong skill.
SPEAKER_01Oh, absolutely. So, uh, Wendy, you were and uh the director of the biggest fundraiser for Frontier Rotary, and that's the Grapes for Good. Tell us a little bit about that. Uh I'm very familiar with it, but I want to share it with our viewers and listeners.
SPEAKER_02Grapes for Good is our annual fundraiser for Prescott Frontier Rotary. This is the 20th annual event this year, happening on September 20th. We taste wine, we eat great food. Uh, John is an amazing MC and auctioneer for us. We have great.
SPEAKER_01It's my honor to do that. I can do it, so I do it.
SPEAKER_02Yes, we have great live auctions.
SPEAKER_03It helps us raise a lot of money. Uh, Barry Barbie, does he still provide the food? Or who provides the food? Because the food's always amazing.
SPEAKER_02It is. It is.
SPEAKER_01And you know, well, it's always at Waters Garden Center.
SPEAKER_02Waters Garden Center here in Prescott. Um, food, you know, catered by various people over the years. Okay. Uh, but it's always delicious. And the most important thing is we're raising money. And, you know, for people that aren't familiar with Rotary, Rotary is a nonprofit organization. It's worldwide, and all the money we raise goes is 100% donated back to the community. We don't get paid to be in Rotary. There aren't, you know, there are paid people at the international headquarters level. But at the club level, we're all volunteers.
SPEAKER_01And you do amazing work, and we thank you for that. And, you know, talking about besides Rotary Club, you are a woman of faith. I am. And uh so when we talked about reaching out to people in our community to help them through our God squad, it seems like it was a natural fit, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_02It really is. It's an avenue that I appreciate the opportunity to be involved with um to bring community together. You know, we're bringing people together that want to garden, want to help the community, and they're there to help those who need the help.
SPEAKER_04Right.
SPEAKER_02Um and one of your things you talk about is socialization as part of a of the balance and purpose and purpose of being healthy. And so volunteering gives me purpose. I know it gives you purpose because as much as you work hard in our community, I know you volunteer and you give a lot. I try. Um and Cecilia's out there too. Oh, she's a giver. Volunteer, you know, she's she has owns a business, she's very busy, and yet she still makes time to volunteer. So thank you for what you're doing. Yeah, you're welcome.
SPEAKER_01Well, Wendy, I want to thank you so much for being a leader in our community, a giver. Uh, and you know, like my mom, uh, you are someone that just puts other people's first, and you are a person of service and of love, and and your husband Barry's a great man too, and we're blessed to have you here. So uh on behalf of uh Visiting Angels and the Make 100 Healthy Foundation and uh Orleans Angels, thank you for being this week's spotlight.
SPEAKER_02Thank you for the honor, John.
SPEAKER_01And we will be back right after this.
SPEAKER_03Visiting Angels, America's choice in home care.
SPEAKER_01And we are back, and we want to remind you to join the Make 100 Healthy Club, the club everyone wants to be part of, to live to 100 or more with health, happiness, and purpose. Go to Make100Healthy.com forward slash club. It's absolutely free. And, you know, Cecilia, what I love about this journey of life is that every once in a while, and pretty much more often than not, you meet an extraordinary person that was right around you, but you never knew that was it was there. And our guest for this segment of our your longevity blueprint is the one and only Peter Medell. Peter, how are you, sir?
SPEAKER_00I'm doing fantastic. Happy Wednesday.
SPEAKER_01So, Peter and I are fellow realtors, and we met recently on a luxury home tour, which thank you very much for your vote. My home won the best home on the tour. Right?
SPEAKER_0020 bucks.
SPEAKER_01He works cheap. I'm gonna give him 50. This guy's from New York. He should be he should have stopped at 100.
SPEAKER_03You two boys from Back East. I can't believe I'm sitting here. I'm a little girl from Wyoming, and I'm sitting with these guys from Back East, you know.
SPEAKER_01You don't have any jewelry on you. Anyway, uh, Peter uh is not on here because he's a realtor. He's on here because his journey has been to transform his life to the the healthiest version of himself. I was really impressed. Our good mutual friend Kirsten Olsen uh told me about you when I told her about the podcast. You have to talk to Peter. And then we spent some time together. Peter, tell me, first of all, how you started your transformation.
SPEAKER_03And how did you get to Little Prescott, Arizona?
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00All right. So uh I'll start with that. Yes, easy. Uh bought here as a second home back in uh 2006 because to get away from Phoenix and lived up in the woods up in Potato Patch and Walker area. Oh and then uh the kid flapped his wings and flew away into the Air Force and uh we moved up full time in 2016. And here you are.
SPEAKER_03Hey, where's the kid now?
SPEAKER_00He's at Hill Air Force Base in Utah.
SPEAKER_03In Utah, outside of Salt Lake City, Clearfield, Clearfield, Utah.
SPEAKER_01Clayton, all that stuff.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, wow.
SPEAKER_00Good food.
SPEAKER_01Lots of good food up there. So that's how you're here. And then you got into real estate right away?
SPEAKER_00No, I've been in God, I've been a realtor since 1988. Okay. Before you were born.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna give them a hundred bucks now. So, so Peter, so talk about why you felt inspired to actually start a transformation. What was going on?
SPEAKER_00When we started seeing a uh primary care physician in 2019, and oh, your cholesterol is too high. 230. Listen to this. This is a crazy story.
SPEAKER_03230 was my and when you say we, when we my wife and I. Okay, so you started to see this. Okay.
SPEAKER_00And so, hey, I'm not gonna put you on a statin, I'm gonna put you on this phenohibrate and stack it with Ezotembi, however you pronounce it. I don't know. And I was on it for five years and it really didn't do anything. In fact, the needle went up a hair.
SPEAKER_01I mean, so you took you took the allopathic model and you took the advice of the doctors and nothing happened.
SPEAKER_00Correct. And then in last in tw in the second quarter 2024, I'm I keep wanting to go in and lower my dosage or get rid of it because I have been exercising. I I lift weights two days a week. My trainer says, hey, when you're not working out lifting weights, I want you to walk. Do a half hour walk. Three and a half miles an hour, three and a half incline, 30 minutes, boom. And uh so anyway, uh in 2024, he looked at my chart, right? Oh, no, we need to increase your dosage. We're gonna double it. And he didn't double it, he actually quadrupled it. And it was from that point that uh things got really, really bad. Getting headaches, lethargic.
SPEAKER_01Totally caused by the medications you were taking.
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. I went on at WebMD and I put um phenohfibrate side effects. And I'm like, oh my God, I got that. I got that one, I got that. Oh, headaches, I'm getting nose. Oh, holy macro! And I'm like, so it was about, I don't know, it was like 12 or 14 things. If you go on WebMD and put in phenolfibrate, there's like 14 things. I was firing on 10 of them.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_00And uh and I'm like, no, and I just I threw I threw it all away. I'm like, I'm not taking this crap anymore. I'm done.
SPEAKER_01I'm mad as hell, and I'm not taking it anymore.
SPEAKER_03Yes. But you know what? I gotta tell you, I was put on blood pressure medicine as well by my doctor, and I did the same thing. I was had all this stuff going on. And then I noticed in the news that people were getting cancer from this particular drug. And so I went to my doctor and uh she said, Oh, just you know, ignore that. You know, well, we'll put you on a different drug. They put me on another drug, and I saw in the newspaper, it causes cancer. Get me off of it. Get me off of it.
SPEAKER_01And and you know, let's talk about how you are holding doctors in general accountable. Now, by the way, there's a lot of great doctors, there's a lot of uh there's a lot of naturopaths. My daughter's studying to be a doctor, she has a heart of gold. But unfortunately, the medical model, the allopathic system, has a lot of financial incentives for doctors, uh, and they only are given a certain amount of information, so they have plausible deniability.
SPEAKER_00They don't even teach them about nutrition.
SPEAKER_01Not much.
SPEAKER_00So in October of 24, I go for my regular teeth cleaning, and you know, they now check your blood pressure just for getting your teeth cleaned. Liability, whatever. And they're they're my heart rate was like 164 over like 109. And they're like, Are you okay? I'm like, Yeah, fine. And then let me check this arm, take your watch off, okay? And it was just as bad. I gotta get the dentist in here. And so our dentist is like, Are you all right? Do we do you need to go to the hospital? What because your blood pressure was low? 164 over 109. No, hi, hi. And I'm like, Yeah, yeah, I'm fine. I let's go. And uh, they weren't, they were, they weren't gonna work on me to clean my teeth because and and that's when I realized, okay, you know what?
SPEAKER_01A lot of signs here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, WebMD says one of the side effects of taking this pill is you're gonna have increased blood pressure. I think blood pressure is worse than low, you know, high cholesterol. Yeah. And I that's when I just said, I'm done. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_01So that's what you did. You made it a clean break. So let's go fast forward. Before we do, though, you said there's a website that you can see that if your doctor prescribes something, whether they are financially being compensated or some consideration, and that should give us all pause because you know they're like, you really need this. Why? Well, my kids' tuition is due.
SPEAKER_00You know what's funny about that, John, is like in our industry, we can get a referral or a kickback from a title company or a mortgage guy as long as it's disclosed to the consumer. Right. But in the medical industry, you don't have to disclose it to the consumer, but you have to post it onto the openpaymentsdata.cms.gov website.
SPEAKER_01So there is a website. And we're gonna we're gonna put it on the screen. Uh, we'll get that for you. But let's go on to what's really important is your journey. So you uh were given some bad diagnoses that have had had uh some really not so good outcomes, and you got fed up and you said, I'm gonna change my life. We want to hear your plan. That's what I want to hear.
SPEAKER_03And that was in 2024?
SPEAKER_00That was in October of 2024. And uh prior to that, uh when the when it came out, hey, I want you to, I'm gonna increase your dosage. And uh my wife and I were looking at uh we're we're YouTube junkies. We follow a lot of YouTube and uh Dr. Berg. Oh, I love Dr. Eric Berg.
SPEAKER_03He's my favorite. I love him. Eric Berg, right? He's my friend. No, I always tell people. Love Dr. Berg.
SPEAKER_00Oh my God, you can learn so much about health, nutrition. Right.
SPEAKER_03And he makes it simple.
SPEAKER_00Food. He makes it simple, and he breaks it down and you learn a lot. Uh he's one. Uh Dr. Stein Eckberg, uh, E.K. Berg uh is another one that I follow. Uh Ben Azzati, I think Ben Azzotti, I don't I don't think he's a doctor or he's in physical fitness, but uh Ben Azzotti, he's a national uh health coach. Uh he's another great guy. Uh he gets into the nuts and bolts of autophagy and intermittent fasting. Burning fat and cleaning out your arteries.
SPEAKER_01All the good stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So uh he's another one that I follow uh religiously. Yeah. Um at Berg's uh Berg Azadi.
SPEAKER_01So tell us how you got the information. Uh-huh. Tell us your regimen. We we need I want to hear.
SPEAKER_03And did your wife go with did your wife join you on this too?
SPEAKER_00So um my wife doesn't have any health problems. She's like rocking it, and uh she's got more energy than God. That's good. But she's here to to support me in in my journey and uh to do a lot of the things. That's what a good partner does, right? She was to telling me for like, I don't know, three, four years now about doing intermittent fasting. And didn't listen to her. And so that was one of the first things.
SPEAKER_03Now, and see, and intermittent fasting to me, and and and you probably know a lot more than I do, but I just quit eating at seven, and then I don't eat until 11 the next morning. Okay. That's isn't that intermittent fasting?
SPEAKER_00I'm like seven to one.
SPEAKER_03Whew! I don't know if I could do it to one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because I'm looking at the colour.
SPEAKER_01So what is that seven to one? What does that mean?
SPEAKER_00So I don't start eating until 1 p.m. in the afternoon.
SPEAKER_01Okay, oh seven at night to one p.m. in the afternoon. Okay. That gives your I wasn't sure what you were saying.
SPEAKER_00And because of my work schedule, yeah, we go to seven, but really should be five. Okay, that window should be shortened.
SPEAKER_01So now when you break the fast, what do you do?
SPEAKER_00So before I break the fast, I your body's in peak autophagy before an autophagy is when you're burning your your visceral fat. Right.
SPEAKER_01And it goes after the bad cells first, I understand.
SPEAKER_00Yes. That's cool. And so um, but before I do that, I've concocted uh an elixir that has been based on Azadi, Berg, Steinberg, Dr. Living Good is another great one. Oh, I like him. Yeah, Dr.
SPEAKER_01Joseph Mercola is another one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I you know what? I will I'll have to write that. He's a veterinarian. Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_01And he came up with a supplement called 90 for life. Yeah. And it's longevity. Uh, it's great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So anyway.
SPEAKER_03So what is yours?
SPEAKER_00What is yours that you're so before breaking fast? Um, I take, and and I make I make this once a week. Oh, so I have like an back of the pain in the neck. Right. Okay. But uh a serving would be a half of a lemon.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00Uh a half of a tablespoon of honey. And by the way, honey does not break fast, by the way, interestingly enough. Oh, that's good.
SPEAKER_01So you can have honey at eight in the morning.
SPEAKER_00You can. Okay. Um and then uh uh two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. And then I have added to that um a drop of rosemary oil, a drop of oregano oil, and then I could continue with my own.
SPEAKER_01He uses deuter ginger, which is that's Sharon Chase, one of our uh friends, okay, was in here on the show talking about essential oil. So you combine essential oils with your uh break your breaking the fast drink.
SPEAKER_03Now, do you add water to it? I see.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's that's in about eight ounces of water.
SPEAKER_03Okay. And then you make that in one big thing, and then do you break it down in your refrigerator and you have the eight bottles?
SPEAKER_00So I have glass bottles. Glass bottles. And I make a bat a batch a week, and I have it all ready to rock. Okay. I I, you know, the little kombucha glass 16.9 ounce bottles. That's a two-day supply.
SPEAKER_01Okay. So so that that's what you start your day with. Uh you eat uh probably real food at this point, all real food.
SPEAKER_00No, so that's that's about a half hour, 45 minutes before uh I break fast. And I try to make make that as go as long as I possibly can.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00And then uh the next thing is I'll uh about 20, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, whatever. Then I take my um my supplements, which is all natural. Okay, cinnamon, love it, garlic. I thought I smelt that cranberry. Okay, and then uh, oh my god, what is this a fourth? Magnesium? Yeah, I I take um my vitamin D, E, and K because uh vitamin E and K only works effectively when uh it's it's when you stack it with with lemon, okay. That opens it up. You're really uh getting an exponential effect um out of the inflammation and for um you know the health benefits of the right.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so so now your first meal of the day is what?
SPEAKER_00And and uh so and bur berberine is another thing that is in there. And then green tea. So take green tea. Okay. Um so my first meal of the day, I will basically break fast with a tablespoon of a high quality olive oil, very high in polyphenol olive oil. Polyphenol is I'm sure you know what yeah, organic.
SPEAKER_01So one of my dear friends uh owns cola vita olive oil, and it's supposedly excellent.
SPEAKER_00So some of the ones that we buy are more expensive than drugs. Right. Uh there is some really high quality. You've got to get the good stuff. You can't just buy it. You want to get the ones that are super.
SPEAKER_03You can't go into Walmart.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00No, you're not going to get any Walmart.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so you do your olive oil.
SPEAKER_03Is a tablespoon of that?
SPEAKER_00They'll do a tablespoon of that. And then um I also with that I take krill oil, which is high in DHA. Is it like omega-3? And DHA, which is the omega omega-3. Okay. Um, because I heard that uh fish oil is uh actually not good for you because of the fact that it's rancid, just like any kind of acetyl. So the krill is not like. I mean no.
SPEAKER_01See, I I I take the omega-3s, and I should probably take the krills.
SPEAKER_00Switch to krill.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_03So then you've got all of that into your system and then so yeah.
SPEAKER_00So now I'm gonna eat my and I eat my fermented foods first. So sauerkraut? I wanna sauerkraut is in there. Kimchi. I grew up on kimchi. I have a sister-in-law who used to babysit us and she forced it down our throat. I eat a lot of Korean food going up. So I have no problem eating kimchi. Okay, but uh, you know what? It yeah. Sometimes when you're getting started with kimchi, you're gonna have to cover your nose. But yeah, uh, kimchi stacked and racked with sauerkraut. Yeah. Uh I'll do uh fermented pickles. Okay. Um pickles are fermented. Well, no, they're in a brine, but they're not necessarily fermented. Okay. Uh Sprouts has fermented pickles. Yeah, I'm learning a lot.
SPEAKER_03And Sprouts has good organic sauerkraut too. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, actually, Costco has a big canister. It's$87.99 and it's fermented, raw, organic sauerkraut. And you can get your kimchi there.
SPEAKER_03And that that can last in the refrigerator for two months. Oh, absolutely. Yeah. Absolutely. Now, when you do the sauerkraut, do you warm it up in the no, no, no, you eat it cold.
SPEAKER_00So, with that, I have um so sauerkraut, kimchi. I do some pepper and chinis, I do a sliced pickle, the I think it's called the boop bubbles or bubbles.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, yeah, bubbles. Yeah, you get that.
SPEAKER_00That's at those are the raw fermented natural grocers. Natural groceries as well as sprouts.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Good.
SPEAKER_00Uh, and then uh in there will also be about one ounce of the aged uh, I always trash it, Fermaggiano Romano cheese. Okay. If you go to Costco, they have a 24-month, it's gotta be a long aged cheese. Okay. And they have it at Costco, and I do a little cut of that with my fermented foods, and then I put uh organic calamata olives.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Now, do you do any beef or chicken or salmon or I'm getting there?
unknownI'm getting there.
SPEAKER_03Uh and I'm getting hungry, John.
SPEAKER_00And then avocado. So yeah, you know, all my foods that I eat are super high in polyphenols. I only want to eat foods that are high in polyphenols or high in lignins because those are heart healthy. They're good for your heart.
SPEAKER_03And Tom Brady, he says, you know, he he ate like 12 avocados a day when he was training, you know.
SPEAKER_00So that's my first section one, you know, part A of my breaking fast. And then uh my protein is going to be I also eat liver, which um I'll do the uh liver tablets. I can't I can't stand liver. Okay, okay. But liver's good for you. It's great. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But yeah, a gag.
SPEAKER_03Years and years, yeah. Years ago, I used to cook liver for my husband. I think we breaded it or something, but I could not stand that smell. It's horrible when you're cooking it, you know.
SPEAKER_01So we went out to to uh dinner the other night with some friends, and one of my I read white and brew. And one of my friends, he ordered liver and onions, and we all looked at them. Oh wow. And he loved them. They were good.
SPEAKER_03So they were flavorful, but hard to make. That it's hard to make.
SPEAKER_01My mom ruined me on that. She was a great woman, but she was a terrible cook.
SPEAKER_00So go ahead. So I I leave my fermented foods and then I transition to my protein. Okay. And so uh part of that, I buy I we do organic, uh, grass-fed, grass-finished, uh, New Zealand uh liver tabs. Okay. And so that which is equivalent to a full-serving liver. The most important organ in your body is your liver. Right. And you know, you take care of your liver, it's gonna take care of your heart health and your arteries and everything else.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. And that that also was a part of the say you uh said that you don't drink alcohol.
SPEAKER_00I yes, I do not drink alcohol.
SPEAKER_03Now, did you quit? Did you used to?
SPEAKER_00And then when you went on For the past five years, I would have uh a serving of alcohol once a monthly poker game. Okay. It's not gonna kill you.
SPEAKER_01Okay. No. Spoke it like a true Irishman.
SPEAKER_00Says the man wearing a sake bar shirt. Exactly. But no, I so like the past couple of months, I I was at poker. I'd have a bourbon on ice or a glass of wine, and like I it it would immediately hit you. Yeah, so you get a little buzz. Oh, yeah. Because you're not used to it, and then all of a sudden I'm like looking at why man, my chest is tight, and I'm looking at my my heart rate is 105 right now. Okay. And it's not the poker guys, I'm not, they don't scare me.
SPEAKER_01So it was the alcohol that was and I'm like, it's the alcohol.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, sure. And I'm like, you know what? Yeah, yeah. I'm done. I don't need it.
SPEAKER_03Now, have you taken your um now when you take your cholesterol and your uh is has anything changed?
SPEAKER_00You know what? I'm a little overdue. And uh in fact, I had to push um my doctor's appointments. I have uh two that I see different. Okay. It's always good to have a second opinion, right? Absolutely. That's true. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we go in, my husband and I we go in every six months and we do the full, you know, check all of our blood work and everything, see where we're at, where how is our cholesterol doing, how is our, you know, our blood pressure, how is everything doing every six months? Because these baby boomer bodies need a lot of maintenance.
SPEAKER_00Yes, they do.
SPEAKER_01So, so Peter, so uh continuing your journey the rest of your day, what does it look like?
SPEAKER_00All right, well, so part one of my my break and fast lunch, if you want to call it, uh I eat my fermented foods and then I transition over to my protein. And my protein is gonna be um and you can't buy it anywhere in a local store, not even uh natural grocers, but cod canned cod liver and olive oil. It is absolutely disgusting the first couple of times that you eat it, but it is such a uh uh productive uh protein to eat. Cod liver or a three and a half inch, uh, three and a half ounce serving of chicken breast, okay, or a three and a half ounce serving of grass-fed, grass-finished beef. And I make my own hamburgers. So grass-fed, grass-finished hamburger. Okay, okay. Um, I'll put ground flax seed, an egg. Of course, the egg is gonna be from a I got friends that have farm. Sure, local, locally grown. You get your own beef here too. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So um now, do you eat eggs like hard-boiled, scrambled eggs?
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, today I have four hard-boiled eggs.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_00And uh I gotta turn up the heat on it. So Spice Traveler has their prescott fire stuff.
SPEAKER_03Ah, good idea.
SPEAKER_00And or Tony chikacheries, a little bit of that on there. Okay, nice. Gotta have a little heat.
SPEAKER_01Um that's good. So so the end result. So the end result where you are now.
SPEAKER_00Well, that's phase two, and then we're still on lunch. Oh, okay. Uh, and then I then I migrate to my carbohydrates, which is going to be um hazelnuts. Hazelnuts are the absolute mortal highest amount of polyphenols of any nut possible. Hazelnuts. Okay. Good to know. And then I just transitioned to um chokeberries. So you can buy either chokeberry powder or the call, it's called ara something. I sent you the video on it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, it's got four times the amount of uh antioxidants that blueberries have. Okay. So, I mean, if you're gonna eat something, might as well go for the best. Yeah, yeah. That's gonna yield you the best productivity.
SPEAKER_03Now, what about br Brazil nuts? Brazil, yes, have you built Brazil nuts a day? But they say don't do more than two. I mean, they can be lethal.
SPEAKER_00I do two a day. Yeah good for your mojo.
SPEAKER_01Yes, well, you know, I I uh I think I've talked to you about the apricot seeds. I think apricot seeds are B17 and they're great. You suppose take three a day.
SPEAKER_00So with with my hazelnuts, then I do the choke berry, then I do the two Brazil nuts. Okay. Uh you can get them organic at Trader Joe's or at sprouts. Right. Same with the hazelnuts. Yeah. Uh, and then a piece of 100% cacao chocolate is in there.
SPEAKER_01Chocolate's good for you. Yeah. The good stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_01The real stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yep. And uh tastes like crap if you eat it by itself, but if you have it with some nuts, yeah.
SPEAKER_03I love it with nuts. Yep. There you go.
SPEAKER_01The healthy Reese's peanut butter cup.
SPEAKER_00No, not that. No, I'm saying that combination. And then Turk Turkish apricots. If if you look at any of the doctors I told you that I follow on YouTube, there's something about organic Turkish apricots.
SPEAKER_01Where do you get those?
SPEAKER_00Um, well, I bought them online, but you can also get them at Sprouts. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Yeah, Sprouts does a nice job. Natural Grocers does a nice job.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we've got we're lucky that we have some of those foods.
SPEAKER_01So continue on. That's it.
SPEAKER_00All right, so well, going back to my protein. So you you've got the the eggs or the cod liver or I love the tanano jarred tuna that's in olive oil at Costco.
SPEAKER_03Oh, really?
SPEAKER_00There's three jars. It's I think it's like 13 bucks, and you get two servings per jar. Okay.
SPEAKER_03And uh Oh, that sounds good.
SPEAKER_01So you so you did a lot of this through your own self, actually.
SPEAKER_00So you pick a little of this, a little that.
SPEAKER_01And that's what we're trying to be, a resource of shape.
SPEAKER_03And that's what you said in today's world. You can go on Google, you can go to Dr. Mercola, you can go to Dr. Eric Berg, you know. I mean, we got a great guy right here in town, uh, Dr. Brian Lensky. Okay. I mean, he he's amazing. And he said to me, his number one goal is to get people off of prescription drugs. Yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_01So well, that's that's really where it starts. So uh what advice do you have for uh people out there that haven't started the journey yet? How do you get out of neutral and how do you get yourself on the path of of long-term health and wellness?
SPEAKER_00Well, they say discipline is like a muscle. And if you don't work your muscle, then you know you're not gonna be very disciplined.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and the thing is you only have one body.
SPEAKER_00You yeah.
SPEAKER_03You don't have another another one.
SPEAKER_00My old man died at 63, and uh heart issues have been in my family. So you're just like uh, you know what?
SPEAKER_01You know that you see the warning signs.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I don't want to be on a pill for the rest of my life that has side effects. That was the gen, that was the start of the whole thing. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That was so I mean, that's why I asked Peter to be on the show.
SPEAKER_03Can you come back again on our podcast? That would be there so far.
SPEAKER_01We love and you know, as you continue, uh just for you folks uh viewing at home or listening at home, uh Tony's gonna put up uh all the supplements and we're gonna put uh uh Peter's whole diet plan that he was kind enough to share with us. Peter, thank you for being here. Yes, you know, thank you for being an inspiration for others and congratulations, because you know, a lot of people talk about doing things, but you actually pulled the trigger and you did it, and you said you've lost weight, right?
SPEAKER_00Yes. So uh when I started the whole intermittent fasting thing, okay, uh, within two months I lost 20 pounds.
SPEAKER_04Wow.
SPEAKER_00And you've maintained that. Yeah. Well, I've I've I've gone up a little bit because uh I I lift weights. Damn chalk. Sure. I lift weights, and and it's like every time I go to the I'm just uh I'm adding more and more weight.
SPEAKER_01So the protein, the protein is helping promote your weightlifting. So well, we're so grateful to have you on our show.
SPEAKER_00But for someone to get started, it's you know, you don't have to like, oh, I'm gonna start waking up a half hour every day. Start with 10 minutes. Yeah, start small.
SPEAKER_01We always say little steps.
SPEAKER_00Little steps that lead to bigger steps that get you to where you need to be.
SPEAKER_01You're gonna come back again, and uh, we're so grateful to have you on here.
SPEAKER_00Thanks for having me.
SPEAKER_01Our pleasure. Cecilia, we've got to wrap it up. We got what's our last segment is called Gratitude and Blessings. And, you know, when you think about bad things that happen in people's lives, you know, Peter's uh, you know, reaction to this medication inspired him to take action. You know, bad things happen to good people all the time. It's how we deal with them that makes the difference. And so uh one of the things I'm grateful for today is uh my little dog Teddy. My little dog Teddy and Stu, they really are my best friends. And and Teddy, I'm gonna put a picture up. Uh Teddy's 16 years old. Oh uh he was attacked by three dogs uh a few years ago, 100 stitches and staples. Uh but his calm demeanor kept him alive. He's here, he's getting old, he's not doing so well. So I just want to say my wife went away last week, and I spent time just me and the boys. And I gotta tell you, you know, dog backwards is God.
SPEAKER_04That's so true.
SPEAKER_01And so, I mean, and it's not just a metaphor. Yeah, they are loyal, they they just unconditional love. Unconditional love. So, uh, what are you grateful for this week?
SPEAKER_03Oh my gosh, you know what? I've got an army of angels in northern Arizona with my company called Visiting Angels, and I find good people with big hearts, and I train them the angel way to go into people's homes and help people with everyday living. And you should see some people, how sick they are. And you know, we just um we're just I am so grateful because what I'm trying to do is to teach my army of angels exactly what you're doing.
SPEAKER_01Well, that's it. So, you know, uh we want to wrap it up. Uh remember, it's never too late till it's too late. And yes, you can do anything you want to do, but you have to take that one word action. If you take action, good things happen. That's why we want to invite you to join our club, make100 healthy club.com forward slash oh wait, make100healthy.com forward slash club.
SPEAKER_03And it's free.
SPEAKER_01And it's free, but it may not be for long. So get in while you can. This is John Murphy, your Make 100 Healthy Guy, saying nothing but thanks, along with sweet Angel Cecilia. And uh we thank you, we thank our sponsors, Dignity Health, and many others. Until next time, ciao for now.
