Skin Myths: Poison Ivy Is Natural Too

Welcome to Skin Myths, Busted — from Keys Natural Skincare, where we take the skincare nonsense apart so your skin doesn’t have to. I’m Bob Root.

Today’s myth: if an ingredient is natural, it’s automatically gentle and safe.

Now, you might think a natural skincare company would just nod along here. Nope. We’re going to bust our own side’s myth, because we like you.

Here’s the thing: nature is not your gentle grandmother. Nature is metal. Poison ivy is natural. Stinging nettle is natural. Arsenic, snake venom, the rash you got from a “harmless” plant on a hike — all natural, all having a great time ruining your day.

On the skincare shelf, plenty of natural ingredients can cause trouble. Some essential oils are common irritants and allergens, especially on sensitive or reactive skin. Certain citrus oils can make your skin more sensitive to the sun. An all-natural botanical blend can still trigger redness if it’s poorly chosen or overloaded.

Natural tells you where an ingredient came from. It tells you nothing about whether it belongs on your face.
So what should you actually look at? Whether the formula is well-designed, whether the ingredients suit your skin, and whether the company can explain its choices instead of just chanting natural at you.
At Keys, we use botanicals because specific ones do specific helpful things — not because the word natural casts a protective spell. Respect for the ingredient is the whole point.

So love natural ingredients. Just don’t trust them blindly. Poison ivy is also somebody’s houseplant, and that person is having a rough week.

And that’s today’s myth — busted. Keys Natural Skincare: real ingredients, real science, refreshingly little nonsense. We’ll see you next myth.
