Your cravings did not change, but your stomach did. We’re keeping it unfiltered about what eating after 40 really looks like when you’re out and about, hungry, and trying to avoid the kind of meal that hits back 10 minutes later. From Burger King loyalty to a full-on love affair with McDonald’s fries, we tell the truth about comfort food, nostalgia, and why certain choices start feeling like “food crack” once your body starts keeping receipts.
We dig into the practical stuff that actually helps: moderation, portion control, and planning ahead when you know you’ve got a treat day coming, like baseball stadium hot dogs and hamburgers. We also talk gut health and digestion in plain language, including why fiber keeps showing up in every nutrition conversation and why “healthy” advice is useless if it ignores how your body responds. Fried foods, oils, air fryers, and even the lingering smell of frying fish at home all make an appearance, because real life is part of eating well.
The biggest takeaway is simple: build your own list. After 40, everyone has different trigger foods and different “safe” meals, so paying attention beats chasing perfect rules. If you’re trying to eat better without killing your taste buds, press play, then share your go-to meals that keep you full and feeling good. Subscribe, share this with a friend who’s been betrayed by a burger, and leave a review so more people can find Unstripted After 40.
Family, friends, frenemies, pull up. This is your invitation to laugh, reflect, and speak your truth. No edits. No filters. Just grown-folk conversation. New episodes every week. Your comments shape the show. #unscriptedafter40

Out In The Streets Hungry
SPEAKER_00So let's get this party started. So this week I was out in the streets, like my kid would like to say it. I don't know what they mean about out in these streets, but it's hot out in these streets this week, okay? But anyway, I was trying to figure out what I'm gonna eat while I was out in these streets. And as you know, when you get at a certain age, you have to dictate certain things that you can eat that your gut will not, you know, make you pay for it later. And that's what I was worried about. Because like I said, what I didn't want to happen was I go out there and get something to eat, and maybe about 10 to 15 minutes later, I'm in the bathroom, you know, praying to that porcelain god um out both ends. So you got to be careful, okay?
Welcome And Appetite After 40
SPEAKER_00But before we get started, welcome to another episode of Unstripted After 40 the podcast. So, like I was saying, I was out in these streets, and when you out in these streets, you know, you got to eat. You know, I'm I'm old, you know, my body lets me know that I have to eat. I'm not there yet where you know I get the senior city, senior citizen discount where you know I go and I can maybe eat like a little portion of meal. I still got a healthy appetite at my age, you know. A 40-year-old, you know, we still can eat. We can't, you know, eat like we was in our 20s, go to a buffet and almost shut it down. But um, there is a fat guy living inside of me that comes out every time I, you know, ready to eat, and it lets me know, hey, hey, buddy, you got to feed him. But as I got older, I realized that I have to think about what I eat these days.
Burger King Love And Fry Addiction
SPEAKER_00You know, back in my 20s, um, Burger King was the best place ever. And it's still the best place ever. I still think it's the king of burgers. You know, I I never was a fan of McDonald's. Now, their fries are freaking awesome. Now, if McDonald's had a drug and that drug was their fries, I guess I'm addicted to that drug, okay? I'm addicted to McDonald's fries because I will go to McDonald's to eat their fries. Everything else, garbage. But their fries are it's no matter what McDonald's you go to, anywhere in the world, their fries will be the same and it tastes delicious, okay? Now, Burger King, uh, depending on where you go out in the world, you you might be here to miss. Um, but a burger is still generally, you know, the best. But I I like burgers, period. But as I got older, I realized that I can't eat burgers every single day. Now, like I say, when I was in my 20s and my 30s now, I can eat a burger like if it was, like I say, about seven days a week, I can eat a burger maybe about five of those days and be just fine. But these days, if I eat like two or three burgers this week, my stomach is gonna be done the whole week. So I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I know for me, if I eat like two or three burgers, and I love burgers, and I love pizza too, but I can't eat it like I used to. So that brings me to you know, what should we eat, or what should we not eat when we get to a certain age?
When Burgers Start Fighting Back
SPEAKER_00Or how much can we eat? So let's talk about what we shouldn't eat, okay? So I love candy. We we shouldn't eat the candy that much, but I love candy. Now, with everything that you shouldn't eat, it should be within moderation, okay? So let's keep that in mind. I'm not telling you to cut this stuff out of your lifestyle. All I'm telling you is to moderate it in certain portions as you move forward in your life. So, as I was talking to, you know, the Google machine, the Google machine said that
Moderation And The Fiber Debate
SPEAKER_00it said some bullshit. That's what that's what it said. I ain't even going to the the whole the the whole graphics of what it said, but it it states that you know um you should heat like when you get a certain age a high fiber diet to make sure that you get your digestive system working. I I don't know what it's talking about because like most 40 years old I know, we don't have no problem with our digestive system, it comes out just fine, it's just the problem what we putting in and how it comes out in my case and most of my friends' cases is the issue.
Fried Food Temptation And Risks
SPEAKER_00So, um fried foods. Oh they say you got cut down on fried foods, and and you know, it's a lot of reasons why you should cut down fried foods. I'm not gonna go and bored you with the issue with fried foods, but you know, um let me see, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, those about the three big, you know, things that most people worry about at my age that we we we think about. Um, but fried food is delicious. I I don't know if you ever had, and I know most of you had, a fried donut. A deep fried donut. Um when I remember the first time I went to a fair and I didn't even know you can deep fry everything, pretty much everything. Because I had a deep fried Oreo, I had deep fried ice cream. Like, ice cream is supposed to be cold. Like, how you deep fry ice cream? Like, whoever came up with that invention or ever thought of that is fucking genius. I'm just gonna give them their flowers now, they're a fucking genius, okay? But we all know you can fry everything. But when we fry certain things, you know, we can use different oils, you know.
Air Fryers And The Fish Problem
SPEAKER_00There are some clean oils out there that you can use to fry your stuff, or you know, they got the air fryers now. You know, most stoves these days, the newer model stoves, come with air fryers, so you know you can air fry it, which I it's somewhat the same. Uh no, no, it's not the same. I I don't know. It's not the same, but it is healthier, you know. Like I say, when I say we we got them in moderation, you know, switch it up every now and then. Sometimes you can fry it in the pot, you know, and then also cleanup. You gotta think about cleanup, cleanup when you're frying stuff. I don't know if you ever fried fish in your house. Your whole house smelled like fried fish the whole day, maybe the whole goddamn week. Um, but you know, but I like fish and I like it fried. I don't like baked fish. I mean, I do ate uh I do eat baked fish. Uh see it I'm trying to put it out. It's not like it's not horrible because bait fish, it's not bad if you prepare it correctly, but it's nothing like fried catfish, okay? It's nothing like fried fish, period. Um, baked fish is it's okay. It's okay. It's healthy, yeah. It's healthy for your body. Fish, period, is healthy for your body, but you know, it's a good thing. Like, so going to the thing. So as I was going out, like I say, I say the fried option, I'm I'm gonna leave it alone. Okay, I can't eat burgers, you know. Well, I can eat burgers, but I didn't want to eat a burger because I like to say I can eat it in moderation because as I say, the day I was out, it was a Thursday, and I know on Saturday I was gonna go to a baseball game, and they had hot dogs and hamburgers
Planning Around Baseball Stadium Food
SPEAKER_00there. And like I say, terrible idea to eat hot dogs and hamburgers at a baseball stadium because it that you ask for diarrhea, but for some reason it's delicious. I I don't know. I it always messed my stomach up, but and for some reason my head and my stomach and my mind is not on the same page when it comes to you know um hot dogs and hamburgers at a baseball stadium, even though I know it's gonna do something bad in my stomach, but it's delicious as it goes down. Oh, it's it's like a goddamn drug. It's like the McDonald's fries crack, okay, like crack, food crack. But anyway, so I knew I was gonna stay away from that. So I say, let me go fried food. And then
Salad Options That Still Taste Good
SPEAKER_00I'm like, you know what? I saw this place and it had like nice salads. And nothing wrong with salad. I I I do enjoy salads. Salads are delicious. I'm not gonna, you know, bash salads because you know, today how they make salads, like I don't know, like the common place where you find most salads that it's generally good. Um Wendy's have a good salad and um freaking what's that place? Um it's a chicken place. God dang, I can't think of the name save my life. No, I'm gonna think of it. It it only opened on it don't open on Sundays. Chick-fil-A. God dang it, I know I was gonna get Chick-fil-a cob salad with fried chicken, not baked chicken. Oh, it tastes delicious. So it it depends on what you get. So I say, I'm not gonna get a salad, but and I can't get a pizza, because I say, love pizza, but also, like I say, hot dog pizza and burger is my Saturday, you know, treats. That could, you know, because usually I can eat it on Saturday and go home and and and and die at home, you know. That that's usually the plan, the game plan, so I can get ready for Sunday, you know, and go other places. So, but we have to get there and think about it. So let me see, let me let me get my thoughts together. So, I know I can't eat fried food, because fried food, you say I like it in moderation, get some fried food. I say I need something that's healthy but delicious at the same time. So, Italian food.
Italian Food Cheese And Portion Control
SPEAKER_00Yep, Italian food where is it? Spaghetti, you know, meatballs, lasagna. They're all delicious foods, you know. And like I say, within moderation, it also got cheese with it, right? So I'll think of myself, cheese was a great thing, right? Uh yeah, that's in moderation too. But it's like the pizza. So like the Italian pizza, you know, same thing. I don't even know if the Battalion people made up pizza. I have to look that up because I for my memory that I got my memory back, I don't even think Italian is a pizza thing. It probably is. Let me know in the comments. I know y'all are gonna crucify me in the comments about that one, but anyway, it goes. Um, the things we gotta think about when we eat, like I say, so fried food out, okay. So when I'm at fried food, I don't like baked food, okay. So, and then they they they're talking about stuff that's in Greece, okay. So I gotta make sure I eat something that's actually healthy. And I love ice cream, so as you think about it, all the foods that are actually delicious, believe it or not, they're not healthy for you.
The Cheap Food Health Dilemma
SPEAKER_00I'm starting to think that in my mind as I'm going through this monologue. Like, man, eating at the Ford is horrible. It's hard. Because it's like everything that is good is bad, but everything that's bad is good. It's like the fast food restaurant dilemma. You know, you want good healthy food that is cheap, but the food that is cheap is not healthy for you. Hmm. Yeah, yeah. See, now you see my dilemma.
Build A Personal Safe Food List
SPEAKER_00So, um, what I'm gonna do is I guess I'm gonna create me a list of things that I can eat that will not upset my stomach. And each one of y'all are different. I know once you get out to 40, it's certain foods that you can eat that you know, for you that doesn't bother you. Like, for example, fruit. I love fruit. But if I eat too much of fruit, me and the bathroom have a couple of appointments. So, but I love fruit, and fruit is healthy for you, so that's a good thing. Same thing with salads. But fried food, I think, is my acrotonite. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is. Like I say, fried food. But fried food is delicious, so I can't say it, but think about some of the things that we're gonna eat after 40 that won't mess you up, but will be delicious that same thing.
The Real Rule Is Moderation
SPEAKER_00The key thing I think that most people should understand that we should get from this whole monologue or suggestion that I'm coming up with eat in moderation. Because nothing that you can eat today that is good or bad for you, that will be good or bad. Like, for example, if I eat too much carrots, I'm pretty sure that that's bad for you. You know, I drink too much water, you know, you can drink too much water and overhydrate. So you gotta think about some of the things that's going on, which you can do that might happen that will hurt you in the end, that when you do it, might be bad or good for you. Uh I don't know. So as we move into our older life and we realize that we can't eat as much as we used to, and some of the things that we used to eat when we was in our 20s every day that we cannot eat every day now, huh? I'll just make you a list. And then realize that you can eat the same thing, just in moderation, and then pace yourself. Pace yourself, you know, and then make sure you add some fiber stuff in there to get your digestive system going, and then all the stuff that gets your vitamins and with you, I guess. I don't know. God damn. As I'm starting to think about it, I might have a problem. I'm probably not the right person to tell you about eating after 40 because I eat horrible. I'm starting to think about it, I eat horrible. Um, so we we're gonna get you a
Drop Suggestions And Closing Thanks
SPEAKER_00list. So in the comments, drop down there some of your lists of stuff that you think that you know that will help me eat better after 40. Because you know I'm training, I'm trying to get better shape. So um, what is the good things that I can eat in moderation, but don't kill my taste buds and just say I gotta eat baked rice and baked chicken and just bake everything, bowl. Sounds horrible. See, it sounds horrible. I can't my face just can't even handle it. So um leave a comment. Let me know. Keep it rolling, baby. Um, thank you for liking and sharing my stuff. Continue to like and share as we go through the conversations, and we'll make sure we get some additional topic errors in there so we can keep rocking with it. Thank you for rocking with me. And always share's comment topic suggestions, so always encourage. And please stop eating me up so bad. No comments. I'm working on my speech. Okay, y'all killing me out there. Um, other than that, I stripped it at the foyer, the podcast. Um rehearse. Let me see. Okay, that was it. Yeah, this is why I'm rehearsed. Unedit, I'm rehearse, real talk from real people. Cause you know I am. Until next time, keep it rolling.
