This week on On Sundays We, we're asking the important questions: Is George Russell okay? Does Rachel think everyone is 22? And is Williams Racing secretly a hedge fund with a race car?

We break down a wild week of Formula 1 news, including Lando Norris and George Russell's Canadian Grand Prix retirements, George's flying headrest incident, and the surprisingly fascinating Gucci-Alpine partnership that has us wondering whether fashion needs F1 more than F1 needs fashion.

Plus, we dive into FIA drama, driver rumors, prehistoric wasps, potential baby Leclercs, Liam Lawson's thirst-trap era, and the kind of paddock gossip that makes Formula 1 feel less like a sport and more like reality television.

Plus, we preview the Monaco Grand Prix, revisit the World Drivers' Championship battle, and hear this week's Formula Run Club predictions.

Fast cars. Billionaire drama. Questionable life choices. Just another week in Formula 1.

SPEAKER_02

That was crispy.

unknown

Hello.

SPEAKER_02

Hi, everyone. Welcome to On Sunday's Wee, a Formula One podcast. I'm Rachel. I'm Lexi. Hi, Lex. Hi, Rach. Happy Saturday. Happy Saturday. It's not Sunday. It's not Sunday. We're recording an hour, an hour, a day earlier than we normally do.

SPEAKER_01

I thought you were gonna say you were recording in our pod studio because we keep calling this the pod room, but it's a studio.

SPEAKER_02

It is a studio. One framed piece of artwork at a time, which nothing is framed. Nothing's framed. Nothing's framed, nothing's painted, but we have chairs. We've got chairs, we've got microphones, we've got a ring light, everything that we buy to start.

SPEAKER_01

Have cool chartreuse sunglasses on this.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh, yes. Lex has her own pair of sunglasses, like the ones I was wearing last week. You're so welcome. Yeah, they're so cute. I've been obsessed with the color chartreuse lately.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, we love chartreuse. It is the color of the pod studio right now. It's like a worse color.

SPEAKER_02

It's like a mint green. It's really unfortunate.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we like like a Lando chartreuse.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, oh my god, it is kind of giving Yuzu Lando monster energy. Yeah. No wonder we like it so much. No wonder we figured it out. Well, well, we are we have so much to talk about.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, this is a jam-packed episode. And before we get into anything, please like, subscribe, and follow us on all the things. We do, full disclosure, suck at TikTok, but we do have a TikTok. Yes. Instagram would be what I would recommend.

SPEAKER_02

Everything is on Sundays We pod.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, on Sundays We thank you. That would be an important thing to note. An important detail. And yes, this is an F1 podcast. We try to break it down like we would any other fun reality show or um celebrity obsession pop culture that we like because that's what we like. That is what we like.

SPEAKER_02

I was talking to it, it must have been one of the girls at work that was asking like why you like F1 so much, and we said you have to watch, like, you have to watch Drives to Survive. It's like a reality TV show.

SPEAKER_01

It is like a reality TV show, but like my show is on. My show is on. There's always so much going on, and so many characters.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and it was really funny because one gal knew that I watched it through Drive to Survive, and she's like, Is there a new season out? Is that why you're doing the podcast? And I was like, nah, girl, it's because it's the actual racing that's happening. She's like, Oh my god, yeah, I forgot. Yeah, there's actual racing. There's actual racing. Yeah. Not this week, unfortunately. We're so excited to do a preview of Monaco. But as per usual, get into F1 or just general racing news, hot goss, and then there is so much of each one of those things that then we'll dive into Formula One Run Club and Monaco Grand Prix. Whoa. There's a lot happening. And not that we are complaining because every week we're like, oh, what are we gonna fill this up with?

SPEAKER_01

I do have to share after last race, uh Rachel and I were discussing because we recorded immediately after the race. So we were like in the zone of like we just watched this, we hadn't really processed anything, and both of us were like, hopefully, we portrayed that we had we were like thrilled by that race and it was incredible. And also Rachel kept saying we just like wouldn't shut up about anything. Rachel's like, I feel back, like I am fully obsessed again. And I was like, this is how I've I can't stop.

SPEAKER_02

I definitely think the new rules and regulations, it just like there was a feeling that we were home, but it wasn't quite right. And now I'm like, oh my god, okay, we've really settled in. The season is really picking up. And yeah, like Lex said, cannot emphasize enough. I was like, did we portray how exciting we thought the race was? And I think it was just like the more we sat and thought about the race and the more we kept talking about it. We just A thought we were maybe missing some things, which will give some updates. We also didn't have some updates, and just like the social media stuff that has come out even after the race has just been like continuing to make our wheels spin. So I'm sure you guys are all feeling the same way.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so we're really excited for this week to like give us a moment just to recap everything and then also prep ourselves for Monaco so that when we go into it for our because it'll be at what 8 a.m. I think we said 8 a.m.

SPEAKER_02

bright and early, and honestly, like thank God.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, we're thrilled because we're, like we said, busy girlies and we like our weekends.

SPEAKER_02

Well, not only that, to Lex's point, it is hard to like roll into a recording on a Sunday afternoon right after a later race, and we don't have time to like slow down and really compile and compose our thoughts.

SPEAKER_01

Mostly because we are hanging out with John, Ben, Susan, and Greg, who are wonderful, and Susan's like flipping. We love you making the Susan making the Susan spritzes. John and Ben are like talking about a ghost pepper that's now planted in the backyard. The dogs are running around. We're just like, okay, gotta go. Bye. It's crazy. So anyway, 8 a.m. I don't know, might be our best work yet. We'll see. Fully coffee caffeinated after that one, I'm sure.

SPEAKER_02

Maybe still in the jammies. I don't know. Yeah, I know for real. Um, anyway, F1 slash racing news. We again, I think so much happened after the race. We were still processing kind of what happened. So just an update, because I don't think it was abundantly clear and Lando didn't even know either. But Lando and George after the race. So Lando retired from the GP due to a terminal gearbox failure. So the mechanical issue just struck midway through the race. But he also had to, I think it was still something all related in when he pitted on lap 16 right away. I think that was all related to the same issue. But yeah, that was I think that was also contributing to my personal funk post.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I said. I was like, Rachel, she was being so honored hard on herself, like Rachel does. Like we all do, we're all in good company here. But I was like, you have to remember, like, Max was on the podium for the first time. So I was feeling thrilled. Thrilled. Which was so exciting. Yeah, I was like, great. Like, I didn't even it's so so Max fan of me to be like, I wasn't even thrilled he was on third, like he got third. I wanted him to beat Lewis, but at least he was on the podium. But poor Lando didn't even, I mean, first of all, they fucking started on inters, which I don't even remember if we talked about a lot. I think that is still that is still something that I can't stop thinking about. Rachel's just like putting away in the back of her mind, like, oh my god, the fucking inters. So they they totally pulled a Ferrari and quite frankly, really screwed up, Lando, and poor Oscar. Um, he just got stuck in the train and then and then didn't even finish the race.

SPEAKER_02

No so anyway, Lando had a gearbox failure is what happened to him. And then George, so he also just had like a sudden loss of power, which meant he had no electronics and no braking assistance, so that's why he like mowed over the grass really unexpectedly. And I guess it was because there was some sort of hardware failure with the battery system and it caused it to overheat and then essentially just like shut down and an engine kill, I think, is what did you have a chance to listen to Gunter Steiner's up with Red?

SPEAKER_01

I haven't. No, what did he say? Um, he they asked him, did the overheating have anything to do with his defending from Kimmy? And Gunter was like, no.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, I uh I think that the reason why George was so mad was because it was entirely out of his control. Sucks. And honestly, I think all of us were so bummed about that because the drama that was exciting from the back and forth was one of the best battles I've ever seen.

SPEAKER_01

Which, and we've all been waiting for it. It was like the the climax. We were all like waiting to happen. Which is hilarious because it's like what five races and then we're like, we're waiting for this. Well, now I think we're all waiting, I don't know about you, but uh for them to hit each other and get both the cars out, is what I'm waiting for next.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and again, I think that's why it was like bummer that that ended so soon with George's mechanical issues. And speaking of electronic issues.

SPEAKER_01

Speaking of people that were sad after the race, John woke up the next morning and like mumbled to Summer the cat and was like, I feel really bad for George.

SPEAKER_02

Well, I think George also feels bad for George and is still He's being a little sad boy. Well, and I think so interesting seeing like what there was like three, four, or five penalties that came out. I think it was four penalties that came out after the race. And so George for throwing the headrest got a suspended um $5,000 or 5,000 euro fine. So that means and I thought it was rough when they said suspended. I was like, wait, he has paid 5,000 euro and he's suspended for 12 months. That's so crazy. I was like, that's impossible. And no, so if you guys did not know what a suspended fine is, it's he doesn't have to pay the fine unless he has another incident that's similar within the next 12 months.

SPEAKER_01

So if he's on behavior, he'll be okay.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it was kind of like a smack on the wrist, essentially.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So, but yeah, poor George.

SPEAKER_01

Poor George, which we'll get into that later. Yes.

SPEAKER_02

We have thoughts. Honestly, rumors put to rest because Gucci is taking over Alpine and it's gonna be Gucci, Gucci racing!

SPEAKER_01

We are pumped. That was so exciting to wake up to my baby Franco and his Gucci. I said, Rachel, you have to be a Franco fan now.

SPEAKER_02

I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

We'll see.

SPEAKER_02

But but I I will say they had those like Photoshop photos of Pierre Franco in the Gucci like sweatsuits, and I was like, this makes sense. And Flavio. Oh my god, all three of them in a Gucci sweatsuit.

SPEAKER_01

Finally, we get some Flavio action. Where in the world is Flavio? All up in Gucci racing.

SPEAKER_02

All up and Gucci racing. And my mind is spinning. There's so many other details to this story, but now I'm picturing. Do you think the Gucci race suits are gonna have the Gucci print all over it?

SPEAKER_01

The brown? I have no idea. All they keep saying is Gucci colors. That's the red and the green and the brown, I think. Yes, which I'm like, could totally mean the G's on a racing suit or like the livery with the stripey. It's gonna be sick, it better be sick.

SPEAKER_02

If it's not sick, wow.

SPEAKER_01

If it's not sick, we're gonna be so in disbelief that it will still be sick. It also better not be insanely expensive. Please. Well, we'll see. It is Gucci.

SPEAKER_02

All this to say, Gucci's the new title sponsor in 2027. So Alpine is no more. It is truly Gucci racing starting next year. And Tony, um, Colin Brown was did uh real. She's just so amazing and Rachel has her hat on right now. Oh my god, I do have my Sunday um fangirls hat on.

SPEAKER_01

Sundays are for televised traffic.

SPEAKER_02

So my god, that's perfect.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, didn't even plan that.

SPEAKER_02

Did not even plan that. But so she was saying that Gucci needs the Formula One team more than anything else. They need to have the global reach that F1 dat that F1 does, as well as the cultural relevance, which I guess they've had 10, 10 consecutive quarters of declining sales. That's so bad. And F1, again, with how much it has blown up, it's like truly the world's fastest marketing platform to become relevant. Which makes total sense. Makes total sense. So Luca DeMeo, I believe that's how you pronounce it, was the former CEO of Renault and is now the CEO of Kiering. I believe that's how you say it. K-E-R-I-N-G, um, which owns Gucci. And then of course we've got Flavio.

SPEAKER_01

Flavio.

SPEAKER_02

So those He's not going away. He's not going away. So those two coming together is really, I think, what brought the Gucci. It does feel the Gucci.

SPEAKER_01

It does feel like very going home for Alpine because of the Benetton background, which we talked about a couple episodes ago. Just kind of like Flavio's whole deal. And now Flavio's back. And now this is happening.

SPEAKER_02

So Tony was saying that Flavio was really the first person to usher in um like high fashion with Benetton into motorsport. And so he's he's back at it again. And Gucci is not an L VMH brand, which is really interesting. Watch out, Louie. Watch out, Louis V. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Why an LV car would be also sick.

SPEAKER_02

I was gonna say, why yeah, with an Alpine French? I know they no longer have a Renault engine. Yeah. But why I don't know. I know that seems more like I don't think synergistic is a word, but more like synergistic.

SPEAKER_01

It would have been like, oh yeah, that makes sense, and no one would have really freaked out like Gucci because Gucci is a new character here for us. But um, I don't think it was it must not have been Tony that was talking about someone was talking about that online.

SPEAKER_02

Well, Louis Vuitton must not need the Global Reach.

SPEAKER_01

They do not Formula One. No, but Gucci, Gucci Gang, Gucci Gang, Gucci Gang.

SPEAKER_02

I will say, this is such a random side note that one of our managers at work, her boyfriend, bought her a Gucci bag and it's so cute. It's a Gucci kids bag, and it's like has a little orange piping on it, and it has bananas on it. Cute! I sound so I just I remember she was she had it this morning. Cute! So anyway, wow, foreshadowing.

SPEAKER_01

You know, I love looking at all the vintage like designer, and there is some very good vintage Gucci out there. So maybe I'll have to re-resurface my research.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, send you over some that I like. Add to your collection. Yeah. Um, second part of this news, even too, is that Mercedes is officially out of the bidding work to take over the Otro Capital portion.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, and apparently it was for sale for $720 million. Yeah. Which we there's like some speculating around it because it's not like Mercedes has said anything. Like they haven't officially like had a statement. But either they thought it was majorly overpriced, which $720 million, like Jesus. Um, or was it Zach Brown's letter? He's a scathing letter directed not at Toto, but very clearly at Toto.

SPEAKER_02

I think it was a combination of both things, but but I'm sure that the overpricing. And then again, Gucci is needing F1 more than F1 needs Gucci.

SPEAKER_01

Right. Alpine's gonna be Alpine, like it's gonna keep going.

SPEAKER_02

But the other thing I have BBC Sport um in an article was saying that Mercedes, like down the line, is also looking to supply less engines in 2031. So I think they thought like taking over one team or another team would mean that's gonna make that sense. Well, maybe that yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So because who does who does Alpine's engine? McLaren um oh, sorry, yeah, Mercedes. It's a Mercedes. Yeah, okay. Yep, Williams, McLaren, and Mercedes, Alpine. Okay, yeah, yeah. Are all so it's almost half the grit that they're supplying at the moment.

SPEAKER_01

Um speaking of Mercedes engines, the loopholes. The loopholes, they're they're yeah, we'll see how they perform in Monaco for many reasons because Monaco will be a different race, which we'll get into here in a second.

SPEAKER_02

If if you guys know racing, or if you don't know racing, Monaco is the I they call it, I think, the crown jewel. It is truly the epitome of F1 in terms of a classic circuit. However, it is probably the most unlike any other track because it is a true street circuit. Yeah, there's a tunnel. The roads are so narrow, the tunnel is sick. Yeah. Um, but the roads are so, so narrow, it is nearly impossible to pass anyone on a track.

SPEAKER_01

This will be the first time, which we talked about this back when it was first announced. Um, but we think there are two loopholes that are now banned. So the first one that we've already talked about, so we'll be really brief, was the power unit trick that Red Bull and Mercedes were both doing during qualifying. So where they were like keeping the maximum power and then they'd like turn it, what were they doing, like turning it off or whatever, and so it would like stay going quickly. Yeah. So it wouldn't like slow down as aggressively.

SPEAKER_02

Instead of ramping down slowly, yeah, the engine would just it would keep going and then it would shut off.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Instead of slowly ramping down, so they were able to extend the power, yeah, capitalize a little bit more on qualifying. So that we've already talked about, but this will be the first race that that's happening. And then there was another loophole.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So the second thing is they're like how their the compression ratios. So it originally back in the day was an 18 to one and now it's a 16 to one. And so the FI measures compression ratios in the garage after the race, aka like when the engine is cold. So, but Mercedes and Red Bull essentially designed pistons to expand when heated in extreme racing temps. So when they were like when the engines were measured in the garage after the race, the pistons had already like contracted again, but they expand during the race. So like the cylinders expand while they're on the track, increasing the compression ratio past that 16 to one. And I think it was ultimately generating like a horsepower advantage. So, aka higher compression equals more power. And I think it was like a 15 to 30 or something like that range instead of 16.

SPEAKER_01

Which again, if you're new to F1 or if you've been watching F1 forever, you know and are very familiar with these loopholes because it happens, it seems like, and I'm new to F1, but having everyone figures out some or some ratio, some loophole. Yeah, like someone basically takes the rules and is like, how can we make these rules benefit us in a way that we're not actually not following the rules? But if it doesn't say something or if it's not specified, they do it.

SPEAKER_02

And so which is so that's honestly part of the fun of Formula One. Yes, yes, people thinking creatively and outside the barbers different pushing limits, yeah, literally. Yes, pushing limits literally, pushing limits to push limits.

SPEAKER_01

So this will be interesting to see how Mercedes does and Red Bull, because Red Bull also had both of these things, which is so funny because they were so bad.

SPEAKER_02

However, yeah, I think very clearly Mercedes is the dominant team, so yes, it'll ultimately be super interesting. Which I'm now thinking we have our family picks at the end of this episode, like who they're picking to win Monaco potentially, and I don't know if everyone knows that that's happening, so probably not.

SPEAKER_01

I I didn't look at who your family picked, and obviously I heard who my family picked, but that'll be funny.

SPEAKER_02

I actually don't think anyone picked Mercedes, so uh oh my gosh, this is probably one of the most funny pieces.

SPEAKER_01

This is like a delightful piece of news. It's so good. Okay, so Oscar Piastri, who did not win the World Drivers Championship and has had a pretty, I mean, pretty sad.

SPEAKER_02

He needs some sort of well, they won the constructors' championship last year. But he needs an accolade and he's got one.

SPEAKER_01

He's got one, baby. A 98 million year old wasp was named after him. I wish we could do like applause sound, like in the own applause. We can make our own. Um I'm gonna try to say this. My husband's gonna like, well, he's not gonna listen, but um why do I want to say Giuseppe? It's not right. I was uh Guesped Piastri. I think you nailed it. Great, great, great. Love it. I guess it was a wasp, right? Yeah, it was a wasp. It was a wasp. A fossil of a wasp was discovered in Western Australia. There were three scientists um that found it. Whether or not they're Australian, I didn't matter. It doesn't matter.

SPEAKER_02

Sorry, scientists, big discoveries.

SPEAKER_01

Big discovery, incredible. And the fossil had an amber color that reminded them of papaya orange, and so they had to honor Oscar Piastri and his as an Australian, yes, with the papaya colors and the wasp fossil. And I just want to say this is it is a huge honor. Like, in all seriousness, it is. Yeah, they like very cool, and this obviously doesn't happen often.

SPEAKER_02

No, I think they some they tend to pick like yeah, you know, like leaders or yeah, not that athletes are not important by any means.

SPEAKER_01

Oscar Piastri important, important very important, and the his fans, the Piastri Hive. Is that what they're calling themselves? Yes. Yes, Rachel and I were like cracking up about it, and then Oscar had a classic Oscar comment on social media. Do you want to tell me?

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he This should not surprise anyone. He has the perfect responses to honestly everything. Yes, buzzing about this. It's one reposting the Instagram post.

SPEAKER_01

No notes. Ten out of ten. Just again, yeah, absolutely phenomenal. So good. I last night was just cracking up, like looking at my phone. It was it would be like Lando with his World Drivers Championship and then Oscar with like the little wasp.

SPEAKER_02

I wonder if he gets to go like see the wasp fossil. I hope so. Get his pick taken with it. I hope so.

SPEAKER_01

He deserves at least that. I also want to know what Lando's saying to him about it because that's also probably really funny. Oh, dogs are coming in. Oh my god. It wouldn't be an episode if the dogs and must-in. Hey Colby.

SPEAKER_02

Um, hi Colbs. Speaking of fossils, Lewis Hamilton.

SPEAKER_01

Susan, don't listen.

SPEAKER_02

I'm so kidding. I'm so kidding. You guys know that I love Lewis Hamilton. And honestly, I think this is very cool. Um, so I guess Lex put in here that David Croft on Sky Sport said that this might be proof that Ferrari has, yeah, like some issues with their factory to track correlation. But Lewis has not been practicing on the simulator.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he said uh I was the article I was reading that I got the David Croft info was saying that Lewis felt like he was having too much of a a difference when he would do practice on the sim and then drive in the car. So he was like, screw it, I know this track, I'm just gonna do it. And he has no plans to go back, which is why they're saying that this might be really upsetting for Ferrari and just kind of point to that they need to figure out their everything.

SPEAKER_02

Well, it's kind of funny because it's like he's throwing them under the bus a little bit, but also not but I'm like maybe he's bringing this up also to get them to fix it faster.

SPEAKER_01

That's what I was thinking. I was thinking this.

SPEAKER_02

A little passive aggressive, yeah. I'm sure that's not what he's meaning to do.

SPEAKER_01

Well, so one of the things, too, that what they they pointed out in the article that I thought was interesting was that this has really made him and his engineers have a better relationship.

SPEAKER_02

Because they're having more conversations and he's probably having to ask them more questions. Like he's still going to the factory, he's still doing everything else he needs to do. He's just not on the actual simulator.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he's like actually more, I guess, involved with what they're doing. And yeah. So that makes sense, but um well, that would suck.

SPEAKER_02

That's like again, training for a marathon and making it like doing everything correctly for all of your practice runs, right? Or your long runs, and then you're getting to the actual race. And then it's completely different. And it's something, yeah, is like not that's a good uh analogy. Yeah, I like it. Thank you. I like it.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but yeah, I just think that's and like I'm sure now he's been with them for a full season and then this season. So now it's like he probably took a step back and was like, what the heck is going on?

SPEAKER_02

Well, I understand that. Like, I think we've all been in situations, I mean, uh me and this podcast, over your overthinking things, and then that honestly just causes you to like panic a little bit, at least for me.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, but then when you take a step back and you're like, hold on, back to basics, baby.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, it's not actually me. No, he knows the track, yeah, knows how to know how to drive his car, he knows how to drive, he's fine.

SPEAKER_01

I I think Susan, though, is right that he just is better when his mom's there. 100%.

SPEAKER_02

She love you, mom. She's like, you talk about me a lot.

SPEAKER_01

We love Susan. Susan's like uh, she keeps us going.

SPEAKER_02

We know she's listening. Well, and then she was like, I don't know if she read this somewhere or she was just saying maybe this is what he's doing instead, which I'm like, I can totally see it. Is like she's probably he's probably not on the simulator, but she's like, he's probably visualizing the track, like as I love when they show them and drive to survive visualizing. Yeah, like doing their little like down shifts on the yeah, this I don't know why I needed to like hit the desk and do a hand.

SPEAKER_01

I do wish this is one of those moments where I wish we had the video. Video. You can see me. Yeah, just like driving the car, doing the gear shifts, and then also the dogs, which oh Colby is mad. She's not a Lewis fan. No, she's a Max fan.

SPEAKER_02

I'm leaving a break in case we need to cut this out. She's a Max Girly. She is a Max Girly. Um, so anyway, that was yeah, fascinating. So I guess.

SPEAKER_01

What's your driver? Do you think Remy would like? Oh Kemi. Kimmy. Can we say Kimmy?

SPEAKER_02

We've asked this question before. I think Remy is a Kimmy guy. Yeah. They have the same similar energy.

SPEAKER_01

His head's in my lap right now. It's giving him chin scritches. He's a good boy.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, sorry. No, um, so anyway, it'd be interesting to see. I think he's still adapting this going into Monaco, but FIA decides to remove Active Arrow, straight mode in Monaco.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Monaco will be an interesting race, like we said, um, as we mentioned just five seconds ago, that it's a different kind of track, like the old school street track, but they have decided to remove straight mode. Yeah. Because uh basically all the things we said, it's a tiny track, there's not enough like long straights um to go into straight mode, and um they will still have overtake mode. Yes, but what's interesting about this, so yes, there's the Mercedes loophole ban, but they're also this will be the first time that there will be no movable wing since 2011. 15 years. Yeah, I thought that was super interesting. I had never it makes sense, but I didn't think about it like that. So it'll be just straight up cars driving, you know?

SPEAKER_02

I feel like this is maybe what they've been kind of asking for in a way.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, right. They love Monaco too. Like all of almost all of them are like, yeah, I love Monaco.

SPEAKER_02

I think they love the qualifying and like I think they love driving the track.

SPEAKER_01

I think it just the race is maybe not gonna be as exciting for us. Right.

SPEAKER_02

Well, and last year they did try something different. Um, because the cars keep getting bigger, also, so it's been harder to pass. But they're smaller again this year, they're smaller again this year, and then last year they did with the the bigger cars, they tried to even do like a two mandatory two stop rule, but that didn't really impact things as much as they thought they did, because they thought that would at least like strategy-wise, you'd have to mix things up a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

There's a really high probability of a safety car, and I didn't watch the race live last year, but in reading about it, there was a safety car where everyone was able to pit. Yeah, and so it kind of just negated the second stop. Yeah, it was like, okay, I don't think they're doing the two-stop rule this year. I didn't see anything about that.

SPEAKER_02

They are not. I think again, I think they're trying the new it's the new regs with the new size of the cars and the no movable wing. Seems to be the strategy.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so it'll be interesting. Like, will Mercedes still have like a huge chokehold on? I don't know. We'll see. The more I think about this, the more excited I'm I'm so pumped. I know. I was getting so I posted like a really shitty looking story last night of me and my notes because I was so excited about Monaco when I was like reading about it and like just thinking about the possibilities. Maybe we get our rando on the podium this race.

SPEAKER_02

It honestly, it could be. It could be a rando on the podium. Maybe Oscar's wasp accolade will make him more motivated. More motivated. Fly like a butterfly, sting like a bee.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know. Isn't there a Danny Rick quote about a butterfly?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, feel the butterflies, enjoy the butterflies, enjoy the butterflies. That's more of like a sad quote. Yeah, but it could still apply to Oscar. Fellow Ossey. Okay, Oscar Pastre. That's finish. Ignore that.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, that was lovely. That's definitely staying in. Okay, um, MBS is being a crazy person, very, very like bluntly. Um, so he is the current president of the FIA, right? Yes. Yeah. I was like, not F1. No, that's FIA. That's different. Um, so currently he is serving his did you say his first or second term limit?

SPEAKER_02

He's in his second term right now, which goes until 2029.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so it's a 12-year lit like a 12-year-old.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. So he he literally could he's trying to extend or eliminate the term limit or eliminate the terms of limits. Eliminate the term limit for presidency. Thank you. But he isn't even in his third and final one that he could currently take. Yeah, and he's already trying to get rid of it.

SPEAKER_01

I do not young. I mean, he's not old, but it's like when you think about like 2029 and then another 12 years, sir. No, don't you want to retire at some point?

SPEAKER_02

Well, and I think the reason why they had this in the first place is there was the same oh, I think it was this guy. Um, Jean Tot. Okay, so Jean Tot, I believe, was from 2009 to 2021, and at the end of his time frame, I think he was causing a lot of chaos. So they that's when they instated the term rule. So it's a it's new, yeah. Like it was a twenty one. It was for before Bahamud Ben Salim came in, is when the rule kind of was instated. So he I think he's been the only one with these terms in place. They're insane.

SPEAKER_01

So I love that he's like, these aren't gonna apply to me. No, I need to touch Lando's hair some more and pour water on Kimmy Antonelli and wreak havoc.

SPEAKER_02

We talk about this, we talk about this. I hear this talked about all the time, where I think he just disrespects the drivers, and I don't, he's like trying to be one of the boys, but he would never do it to Lewis, he would never do it to Mary.

SPEAKER_01

No, absolutely never do it to Fernando, no, but Ollie on he's on the watch out, Ollie. Ollie, Franco, Lando. But even Lando has been in the sport for a very long time.

SPEAKER_02

He's got a little baby face though, but and I just like he can't disrespect the drivers like that. He's like trying to be buddy buddy with them, and I'm like, dude, no.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, he tries to be. We I think we've even said this before last time we talked about him because he's been vocal and he's been in the like it just go like you don't need to be you don't need to be besties.

SPEAKER_02

And here's the deal I'm sure I could list a number of like truly professional reasons.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, Remy is really excited about Kimmy. Oh, he's off. Alright, we're back.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, so Mohammed Ben Salim. I think there's there's plenty of legitimate reasons why people don't like him, and people have definitely listed their grievances. But again, I I'm sure the drivers don't take too much to heart when he's like ruffling their hair, pouring water on them, but I'm like, can we not?

SPEAKER_01

I know, it's just my grievance. It's so awkward timing, it's just so cringe.

SPEAKER_02

It is cringe because he's trying too hard to be like, it's like you don't need to. You're not an F1 driver, dude. And that's fine, it's fun.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, that's it. That's all. Kimmy does not need his hair looking crazier on the podium. And this is where I say we need Carlo Sine Sr. Yes, petition. We're gonna we're petitioning. Oh my god, or Susie Wolf. Oh I thought you were gonna say Susan, your mom. Oh my god. And I was like, yes, Susan. Yes, Susie Wolf would be, oh, maybe that's oh, maybe that's the Toto Wolf, Susie Wolf plan. Well, I don't know if that's incredible. The waves that that would make just because she's a woman would be. But if F1 Academy doesn't end up really I think hopefully that it does well.

SPEAKER_02

She's doing a lot for women in motorsports. So I think she's definitely needed in that position. But yeah, I don't know if that'd be a conflict of well, no. I feel like what is a conflict of interest in F1?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, not we've got plenty of them. Zach Brown might write a letter, but like I can't.

SPEAKER_02

He probably would write a letter. He definitely would.

SPEAKER_01

Or he'd send like a WhatsApp note to Toto, which would be even funnier.

SPEAKER_02

Anyway, yeah, so anyway, I think the most logical move, which he was already running. I can't remember why he pulled out, but we I think Carlos signs senior. But again, is that a well, is that a conflict?

SPEAKER_01

No, because Carl, well, I mean, in 2029, who knows who's where, who you know what I mean? And then another 12 years, Carlos Yeah, hopefully we'll be not in a car here.

SPEAKER_02

You're right, because he the reason why he ran was he just got re-elected. Yeah. Okay, and yeah, so and I don't I think he ran unopposed in the second term because Carlos Sainz Sr. dropped out. Carlos Sainz Sr. He's still doing rally car. Did you see that video of him like watching the race the other day, like after his rally car race? No, but that sounds so so so sweet. Oh random love. I love all the Carlos's. All the Carlos's, all the signs. Speaking of Carlos and Williams. Wow, what a perfect segue.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, we did not plan that. Okay, um, if you haven't seen, we're gonna tell you about it because this is kind of like my I don't want to say favorite thing that's happening, but it is something that has really captured my brain in a way that I'm like, what the heck is happening?

SPEAKER_02

This is the most information jam-packed.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, and I can't talk about it. So Williams is apparently having a secession-style corporate meltdown. So The Guardian basically dropped this very long article that you should absolutely go read. But John, if you're listening, you need to go read this. I told him that last night. Um, but basically, they the the the crux of it is that every F1 team has a mysterious billionaire somewhere in the background. And The Guardian just kind of exposed Williams, and it has now like kind of come out, and there's a lot like packed into it, like racism and feminism.

SPEAKER_02

And no, this could be a TV show based off of that's what I was that's what I was trying to say is the amount of information and details in this saga. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

And it keeps it keeps going out by the time we drop this episode, there's probably gonna be more info. Great. Part two. So part two. We'll just keep going. So here's the deal: a former Williams executive, Claudia Schwarz, Claudia Schwartz, is in the middle of multiple lawsuits against Williams and its owner, well, alleged owner, Doralton Capital. So she claims she was fired after raising concerns about sexism, racism, and questionable business practices inside of the organization. So Williams and Doralton say that that's nonsense and they've countersued her. They basically were like, literally everything she's saying is crazy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, they've from I think that what I saw of this is she's trying to sue them sue them, but they're saying, yeah, she's also been like that she's been committing fraud and improperly billing.

SPEAKER_01

So basically, like she's also in the wrong, but for other horrible reasons, but like different reasons.

SPEAKER_02

So a fee that all seems improper billing seems minor in comparison. To sexism and racism.

SPEAKER_01

When you hear, like, when you read the article, they make it seem like it is just as bad, which we all know it's not, but for them, you know, whatever. Okay, so officially, like I said, allegedly owned, Williams is allegedly owned by Doralton Capital, the investment firm that brought the team that bought the team from the Williams family in 2020. So if you've watched Drive to Survive, you remember Claire as the team principal. Love good old Claire. Good old Claire, and then Doralton Capital is the one that bought them. But Claudia claims that there is a billionaire investor named Peter DuPatron, um, who of course is American.

SPEAKER_02

And the name does not suggest he's American.

SPEAKER_01

No, but he is American and he's from Jersey.

SPEAKER_02

I just like, I'm like, of course he's from New Jersey. This is giving mob. This is giving Sopranos.

SPEAKER_01

Exactly. So, so DuPatron is secretly calling the shots from behind the scenes while everyone's saying that Doralton Capital is running the show. So Doralton insists he's just an investment investor and not involved in data dating.

SPEAKER_02

I see why you're saying allegedly allegedly owned by Doralton. So they are owned by Dor Doralton Capital. You're just saying that they think he's Peter Peter running the show.

SPEAKER_01

And why this has come out in the Guardian article is because Claudia said that the team, so the people who work for Williams, call Poutron our dear leader or ODL. Like he has a nickname. That sounds very cult-like.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. I guess a cult could be a mob. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I yes. I don't think they I don't know.

SPEAKER_01

Allegedly. Yeah, allegedly. Allegedly. Allegedly. Um, Colby has thoughts. She thinks it's the mob. It's the mob. Yeah. Colby said it's definitely the mob. Okay, so according to the court filings, there are allegations that executives have tried to hide how involved Peter is in the business. And at one point, an article, the article at The Guardian mentions a security badge that was created for him under the name Ralph Macchio, the karate kid name. Yeah, that's so random. So random. Um, and the whole thing has basically just like spiraled into these allegations of like cover-ups, everyone's like pointing their finger at each other, discrimination, tax cra tax structure questions, secret influence, reputation destroying media leaks, and then competing lawsuits across multiple states, and no one has proven their claim in court yet. So we're we're basically just still at a point where we're like pointing at each other.

SPEAKER_02

And like he said, definitely gonna go to court.

SPEAKER_01

Sounds like it sounds like it.

SPEAKER_02

Sounds like they're already in the beginning phases of that.

SPEAKER_01

That's why I was like, I think more will come out before this episode even drops. This is absolutely just the tip of the iceberg. Yeah, like it is it is the first time I it was a creator on social media. I'll share his um video when we drop the episode so you guys can watch it. But I watched it twice because I was like, what the heck? Okay, we're gonna have to watch that. Yeah, it's crazy. He put out another one too that I haven't watched yet.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, Lex really did the deep dive on this, so I learned a little bit of information here. And can I just say this really sucks? Yes, this really sucks because number one, in I just think Williams, if you guys watched Drive to Survive, you know, Williams started off with it, it was like a homegrown family-owned business. Again, like I think it was Frank Williams passed it down to his daughter Claire. Yeah. Um, and she was kind of like running the show for him for a while while he was in ill health. And I don't know, I just think like this is the absolute opposite vibe of what was the original intention of the the team. And then also I think that James Vowells, Carlos, and Alex Alba Albon definitely give off the wholesome like Claire Williams, Frank Williams. I keep saying vibes, but that's what really, yeah.

SPEAKER_01

That's what they emulate. Yes. No, completely agree. It's almost like of all the teams, you would not expect it to be Williams.

SPEAKER_02

I just had a thought that if you're giving me this backstory of the succession and the the drama, the finger pointing. I am thinking that the two drivers on this team. A I'm thinking that this is Aston Martin that's having these issues. And I am thinking that this is Lance Roll and Fernando Alonso on this team.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely, not poor little Alex Alban and Carlos Sainz.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, if you didn't tell me the team, I'd be like, oh, this it's gotta be Aston Martin.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, absolutely. For no reason other than I just think like a rich scandal, or Red, or even Red Bull like a year ago, you'd be like, oh yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Or even maybe like a Mercedes, but um, I yeah, I'm just like not Williams, not sweet daddy vowels.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, so this is this is really interesting because like Rachel was saying, the Williams family, like if you if you know F1 or you know someone who's in the UK, they're a Williams fan. Like this is their team, and now it's like taken over by these crazy mobster Americans.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. God, New Jersey. Don't they call what do they do they call it like the armpit of America? Is that making that up? No, probably. You're right.

SPEAKER_01

I think I'm not saying Philadelphia, or is that uh Newark Airport? Yeah, sorry to anyone who's in from Jersey. It's nothing against Jersey. We're just uh like we as Americans the armpit of America.

SPEAKER_02

A subjective derogatory nickname for most commonly used to describe the entire state of New Jersey. It's just like we are. I'm not saying I believe in that. I'm not saying I believe in that.

SPEAKER_01

I'm more upset. I don't know if you feel the same way. I'm more upset about it being an American because we already have freaking Trump trumping around, and then now this, and it's an American. It's embarrassing. It's embarrassing. Yeah, but yeah, so. More more to come on that, probably. But yeah, poor Williams.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, thanks, Lex, for that deep dive. That was fun. Yeah. I can't wait to hear what else comes out.

SPEAKER_01

I know. I want to know what what Carlos and Alex and James are thinking, or if they Oh, there's no way they're gonna comment on that. No, no way. I wish they would. Is Netflix still doing Drive to Survive? Because I haven't seen any of their like they never really announce it.

SPEAKER_02

I think that we would know if they weren't. Okay. Which makes me assume that they are. Because they have to put something like this in there. Don't you think? Ooh. I don't know. I don't know. I could feel it being like a whole episode. That's where I'm like, they didn't and giving it.

SPEAKER_01

And then Alex runs over the groundhog. Oh my god.

SPEAKER_02

Well, that's where I'm like, maybe I don't think they can cover any active lawsuits. Dang it. I know. You're right. Yeah. Because that's why we didn't get anything really un Christian in that situation. Okay. Um, speaking of legacy F1. Yeah. Exciting news. This is Mick Schumacher vibe. Yeah, completely different. Back to wholesome. Yeah. Um, back to classic F1. Mick Schumacher, who did race for the Haas team a couple years ago, and whose dad is Michael Schumacher, won the Indy 500 rookie of the year. He was the highest finishing rookie, and he started 27th and finished 18th. That's impressive. And I think they noted in I can't remember what article it was, but he did not cause any damage, which if you watched Mick in Formula One, he caused a lot of damage.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, there's a whole, there's a whole uh back to drive survive, a whole whole storyline. Yeah. I mean, the whole season they're like, and then he there he shakes his head and his car's like in smokes behind him. Yeah, it's crazy.

SPEAKER_02

I'm Mick didn't seem super excited necessarily about this out accolade, but I think that's just like his personality to be pretty even keeled.

SPEAKER_01

Rach was saying she thinks it's his personality. I think it's because being named the rookie of the year when you've been driving for so long must be.

SPEAKER_02

I mean he's 27 years old, I think, which actually shook me to my core a little bit.

SPEAKER_01

He's only 27?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, I thought he was like 24 or like 22.

SPEAKER_01

Really? Yeah, oh he's young. I mean, I thought he was young when they when he drove an F1, but how many years ago was that? I guess I'm thinking that was a long time ago.

SPEAKER_02

Um, no, here was.

SPEAKER_01

Was that when Danny Rick was driving?

SPEAKER_02

Like 2022. So let's see when he was um okay. First entry was 2021 and last entry was 2022. Okay. Okay. So I guess that was still four years ago. But yeah, okay. But I don't know. I just I've always really liked Mick. He seems like a sweet human being. I know he has mi uh Schumacher blood racing in his blood, but at the same time, so I think that puts a lot of pressure on him. Yeah, I'm glad he's doing something racing-wise.

SPEAKER_01

I don't know that's good.

SPEAKER_02

It just seems like a lot of pressure, especially, you know, I guess we don't really know the state of his condition of his dad either. So I'm sure he's just I think he deals with a lot. And so I'm just I'm happy for him.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, I think and then on another happy note, talking about again. More legacy, more legacy. Rachel and I were like in tears looking at all of the content that was coming out about this, but Lewis Hamilton's brother Nicholas was on the podium the same day that Lewis was on the podium. It was so sweet.

SPEAKER_02

He races in the British Touring Car Championship. And I don't know, again, I think the reason why this is I mean, a yes, amazing, especially if you're following in your brother's shadow. So sweet. But he has spastic dysplasia, cerebral palsy, and he races a specifically like modified car. And I think there's at one point he didn't know if he was ever gonna be able to walk again. And so the fact that he's racing and then on a podium was just so sweet.

SPEAKER_01

And I know, I know John, my husband, always like teases about how Lewis is like insufferable and whatever, whatever. But he's such a sweet human, and like seeing him just talk about Nicholas and he was genuinely so happy for him. So incredible after he was on the podium too, that was just so sweet. I just was like, my heart was melting.

SPEAKER_02

Of course, this was just like another reason why Susan like is like lovely.

SPEAKER_01

Did she say anything about this?

SPEAKER_02

I think we talked about it a little bit. Okay, mom, maybe we didn't. Oh no, I think I did.

SPEAKER_01

I think we just need Susan to come come record a pod with us.

SPEAKER_02

Very eloquent with her thoughts these days on Formula One.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, she had some good thoughts.

SPEAKER_02

This is why we talk about her so much. Um, so anyway, yeah, he I guess again, very cool. He made history in 2015 as the first disabled um person to drive in the BTCC and placed in the top six in 2023, and now a podium. So yay, Nicholas!

SPEAKER_01

Shout out to Nicholas. Um, and then we did our last little bit of news here. Um, we did talk about how Catherine Legg was attempting the double um last weekend, and she we I think we did mention that she wasn't able to finish the ND500. We did, yes. Um, however, she did go and complete the Coca-Cola 600. She did finish in 31st place, so it wasn't like an outstanding race for her, but she at least did it, and that's really impressive.

SPEAKER_02

Attempted the double, which is badass. Yeah. So can't wait to see her. I'm sure she's gonna want to try and do it again. Oh, I hope so. I hope so. And then this just came out today, but Abby Pulling, who was the 2024 F1 Academy champion, became the first ever female winner of a GB3 race. She converted her pole position to win at Spa.

SPEAKER_01

Hell yeah. That's what we want to see from F1 Academy.

SPEAKER_02

If you all want to learn more about Abby Pulling specifically, they did do one season of like a drive to survive, but F1 Academy.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, I didn't even know that.

SPEAKER_02

What?

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah. Oh, I'll have to watch it.

SPEAKER_02

It's so good. I gotta pause on off campus now. I'm just going to switch to F1 Academy. But they dive into her life, and I think if I remember correctly, it's just her and her dad, and she came from humble beginnings, and it is such a huge deal, I think, for her to be in a professional racing series like this. Yeah, no, truly. I know.

SPEAKER_01

So love it. Yeah, women in motorsport were pulling for pulling.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. So shout out to Apple.

SPEAKER_01

Pulling for pulling.

SPEAKER_02

That's incredible. Amazing. And then yeah, yeah, check out her story, F1 Academy.

SPEAKER_01

Um, okay, so now on to the real juicy stuff. I'm just kidding. There was a lot of juicy stuff.

SPEAKER_02

That was a lot of juicy stuff in the news.

SPEAKER_01

This is more like fun, lighthearted. Um, if you follow us on Instagram, you've seen us kind of like. I don't know if this first bit is fun, but well, yeah. No, this is okay.

SPEAKER_02

Why I This is a pure rumor.

SPEAKER_01

And this is something I mostly just want to talk about. Um so there's all these rumors circulating about Valtery getting ditched by Cadillac. Like he won't, like people have said he won't even finish the season. After Monaco, they're saying. Yes. And I just don't, I cannot for the life of me figure out where anyone's getting this info. Like, there was usually it's like so-and-so and so-and-so had this conversation.

SPEAKER_02

Well, even with Esteban and Ayo, they were like, they were having a fight in Miami, and uh that obviously got debunked pretty quickly.

SPEAKER_01

But Valley, I'm like, just because he's not doing well, and and here's why I want to talk about it. Neither of the Cadillacs are doing well.

SPEAKER_02

Because they're doing Cheko is doing better and is looking a lot better, but he is not scoring points. So that's why I'm like, I don't understand why it's a big deal. I don't think anyone else that they're going to bring in at this point in time is going to be scoring points.

SPEAKER_01

No, and everyone's saying that Herda, Colton Herta, is going to be who's an F2 right now, and he's the current reserve driver, is going to be the one to take over. He doesn't even have a super license yet. So he can't. He can't, and I guess is why after Monaco, because it wait, no, because there's not an F2 race in Monaco, is there? No. No. So I don't know. But basically, when I looked it up, he still has like four or five points to go to get his super license. Like he's very close, but he's not quite there. And Cadillac is a new team, and I just don't know why everyone's freaking out about this.

SPEAKER_02

I mean, maybe, maybe Valtory doesn't Oh, there is an F2 race.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, interesting. Oh, we might have time to actually watch it. Yeah. Because he did, he got P7. Herda. Colton Herda got P7 last last race. Yeah. Which is not that's pretty good, but it's not bad. Yeah. For his like third F2 race, I think. I think he's doing pretty well. Yeah. I think what they were saying when I did watch the uh was it Miami? Um, the commentators were saying that Colton has gotten really good feedback about how he speaks to the car and he just obviously knows motorsports. Yeah. So it's been a pretty decent transition for him. It's been pretty but like why are we hating on Valkyrie so much? I really don't know. And we just got him back, y'all.

SPEAKER_02

We can't kick him out.

SPEAKER_01

Like, I don't get me wrong, like I would be very excited to have Colton heard of. We were joking. We were joking about how, so my parents, we talk about Susan all the time. My parents have been watching Drive to Survive and watching races, and they don't act Dana, just close your ears for a minute. My dad does not actually listen or watch anything. He just kind of like turns on the end of it or the beginning of it and then like acts like he knows what he's talking about. And he's all about Cadillac. Um, and if Colton Herda ends up driving, I won't ever be able to hear the end of it, and I don't think I can handle it. Like, I mean, I have to like not talk to him everyone.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Like, I just I don't think.

SPEAKER_02

Talk that your parents sound like that. I'm not, I'm just imitating what people think Americans sound like.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, Southern Southern American. Yeah. So sorry, Southern American. Sorry, P Tom. Uh, but he I don't think I would be able to handle it. That would be insufferable. It would also be funny if Colton went to a non-American team.

SPEAKER_02

After all that.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Like if, which I guess you could say Haas is sort of an American team.

SPEAKER_02

I think Haas, yeah, Haas is an American team.

SPEAKER_01

But like if Estie Bestie's gone and then Colton's on there, will we like Haas? You know what I mean? Like, it's just a funny thing to think about. Anyway.

SPEAKER_02

I'm still holding out hope for Jack doing.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, me too. I want Jack back. Let's get Jack back. But I want Valtry too. So I know.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

SD Bestie can move along and then Jack can come, and then eventually either Chaco or Valtry will want to move on.

SPEAKER_02

Again, we hope these rumors aren't true. But we can't find any we can't have any top-notch comedic drivers kicked out of F1. No. Which brings me to our next point.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

This has been the thing that I can't stop thinking the most about. Yeah. Which in a good way. In a great way. Is that we talked about last week Danny being at the indie 500.

SPEAKER_01

And he had a great time. Seemed to have a blast. Did you read his Enchanted newsletter? No. It's delightful. I think he sent it out like last night or today. Oh. So you have to read it. It's great. But he had a great time.

unknown

Oh.

SPEAKER_02

They're winning him over. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Daniel Ricardo. Indy 500 rookie of the year.

SPEAKER_01

Yep, yep, yep, yep. I can see it now. He would have a big old grin. He would not make Schumacher that news.

SPEAKER_02

No. Um, but it came out after the fact that Lando flew, I think pretty much directly to Indianapolis from Montreal. Love. Makes sense. Somewhat close proximity. Like something crazy that I would do. Yeah, I know, truly. Um, but he and Danny were like casually at a bar with like, I think with Connor daily, just like shoot.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, just hanging out. And girlies were posting it on their Instagram.

SPEAKER_02

I think I told Lexi, like, I would honestly like this, that would be the best day of my life. Rachel would pass away, I think.

SPEAKER_01

Like we would never, she'd be sad for the rest of her life after that.

SPEAKER_02

We would be like riding a high and never be able to recover after that. Like it would just be like too much. Um, but yeah, and then the photo of them with Connor Daley. It was giving the energy of Lando and Danny being reunited on the private jet.

SPEAKER_01

It was great. It was so good. And we keep just like looking at the photos and sending them back and forth. It's so cute.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, well, then I think Lando got like a tour of like um maybe Arrow McLaren's facility.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, because he was on that cleaning machine thing and they were like, he can drive anything.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and it looks like a giant Zamboni. Yeah. And Pato Award was taking him around. I think at one point he was on the simulator and Pato goes, Come on, princess, or something. Like, what's the next stop? Um, but someone was asking him afterward, like, would he want to drive like the Indy 500? And he's not ruling it out, but essentially he said that he wants to drive Le Mans before driving indie car and like wants to actually do a test on an uh oval track in an indie car before ever committing to something like that. But the triple crown, which we'll talk about a little bit more with Monaco, um, is if you win the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indy 500, and the 24 hour of Le Mans.

SPEAKER_01

Which Daniel has won Monaco.

SPEAKER_02

He sure has. 2018, the iconic swimming pool. Best photo and F1. That is, I think, and I, you know, didn't watch Vincennes or Michael Schumacher race, but I'm like, to me, that is the most iconic F1 photo of all time.

SPEAKER_01

To me, too, and again, that definitely could be our millennial showing, but whatever.

SPEAKER_02

Whatever, whatever, it is what it is. So that's been making me happy. Yeah, no, it's because Danny and Lando still being besties. Leo and Dorian Pon.

SPEAKER_01

Yes, okay. This is such a quick little no, but it was the cutest thing I saw. Like Lando obviously is a cutie and Danny is a cutie, but Leo and Dorian Pan meeting each other and her speaking French to him and him just like freaking out. That was the cutest thing I've ever seen.

SPEAKER_02

It was like so I anything with Leo is gonna be top-notch content. Yeah, love it. And Dorian, she, you know what? I say this in the most positive way. They kind of look like look alike. They do. Like he's a little blonde, it's a little Leo. Doch, yeah. Cute. Okay. Oh, this is maybe one of my other favorite pieces of news.

SPEAKER_01

So I don't remember if we did or did not talk about this last episode, but we were like, is Liam single? No, we just talked about the fact that he might be single.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think we talked, this wasn't out yet, but there's cold hard evidence people. He's single. He is single.

SPEAKER_01

Um, why do we think he's single, Rachel?

SPEAKER_02

Because there are first traps aplenty everywhere. On his last Instagram post, yes, I went through and counted.

SPEAKER_01

Visa, Cash App, racing bowls.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. So many things. We haven't even told you what is to be found on the Instagram posts. But there's two shirtless picks in the dump, along with two of them like flexing or like showing as much as. Yeah. That's one of the ones I counted as a shirtless photo. And then there's one where he's actually flexing.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, like flexing his arm. Yes. Oh, so the shirtless is the back. Okay, okay. Yeah. There's a lot of muscle going on.

SPEAKER_02

A lot of muscle's happening. And then to Lex's point, this just posted before we started recording.

SPEAKER_01

He literally just like opened Instagram and we're like, ha ha.

SPEAKER_02

A shirtless photo on Racing Bowls.

SPEAKER_01

Of Liam.

SPEAKER_02

Page.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Admin. Is he hooking up with the admin?

SPEAKER_02

What was the no? I don't know. I always think the admins are men, but I guess they could be women.

SPEAKER_01

I always assume they're women. We, I guess, technically he could hook. He could also be hooking up with the dude.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, he totally could be.

SPEAKER_01

That could be kind of on brand for him, honestly.

SPEAKER_02

Um I'm trying to figure out. I need to see if there was a caption.

SPEAKER_01

We didn't put this in the notes, but um Hannah, Hannah St. James also has been posting kind of thirsty thirst traps, not as bad as Lamb.

SPEAKER_02

Oh yeah, there was like the F1 gossip account. Oh my god, yeah, it just says go long. Oh my go long. Do you Jesus? Do you think that he's like, you should post shirtless pigs of me?

SPEAKER_01

Maybe they were like, hey, can you do this other goofy reel? And he was like, only if you post Do you how long do you think he's gonna be single? Do you think he's already talking to someone?

SPEAKER_02

I don't know. That's a great question.

SPEAKER_01

I bet he is.

SPEAKER_02

I bet you there's plenty of girlies in his DMs. Exactly.

SPEAKER_01

Girlies get in there. I wish you all the best.

SPEAKER_02

This is hilarious. Go long. Someone on commented on the post, and this is us, honestly. Maybe I should like it. Is I just opened Instagram admin. Dot dot dot. Yes, that's exactly what we did.

SPEAKER_01

It's the first post. It's like him. Yes. Yeah. Did on Sundays we or did Rachel? No, on Sundays. Okay, we should. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. On Sundays we liked that post.

SPEAKER_01

We're gonna have to comment on that.

SPEAKER_02

Uh we absolutely more thirst traps. Yep. More. No, we don't. I'm not saying we need more of them. I'm just saying that there's another one. First it was Ollie Behrman. Now it's Liam. When Kimmy. But this was on his own accord accord. The Ollie Thirst traps were like making pictures of him, which is just creepy. This seems like it was Liam's choice. This was definitely.

SPEAKER_01

Liam is living for this. God. The man can't finish a race, but like he can take some sheerless picks.

SPEAKER_02

I think this one is kind of interesting. And I in defense of Alexandra Leclerc, I I think I have I have an anecdote, but um, there's pregnancy rumors. Yes, yes. I'm not saying I'm not excited. I just don't the so the reason people are saying this is because on Instagram she's serving or serving. She's serving nursery design. She's saving nursery nursery design, like inspo pics and content and engaging with pregnancy-related posts. Well, she just got married. She just got married. I'm sure she's thinking about it. And how many of us, like, even be well before we were able to like redo our kitchen, I was saving inspo pics, and I know that's not the same, but also my sister is pregnant, and so my mom and I have been like talking about insta yeah, like nursery and inspo. Yeah, and for the baby shower, because of course I want her to do an F1 race car theme. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_01

She doesn't want to pin pigeonhole her child into liking what little boys have little boys and girls have race car beds. I keep why not just do a F1 theme?

SPEAKER_02

I keep hitting that my hat with the microphone, so apologies.

SPEAKER_01

What was your what was your nursery theme when you were a baby?

SPEAKER_02

I actually I think it was Van Gogh lily pads. Oh, that's cute. Yeah. Mine was Beatrix Potter. What's that?

SPEAKER_01

Like Peter Rabbit.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, okay, never mind. Yes.

SPEAKER_01

Flopsy, mopsy, cotton tail. Yeah. Yeah. I love that. But so my point is though, you do not have a single piece of Van Gogh in your house. No. I do not have bunnies. So there we go. So I think it's fine, Elise. I know, Elise.

SPEAKER_02

One of our we're using this podcast to bully our families. Basically.

SPEAKER_01

We're really just testing to see who's listening.

SPEAKER_02

But anyway, all that to say, I don't have kids yet, but I'm probably engaging with some mom or like baby content every now and again. And again, nursery inspo. So if she's pregnant, great. I feel like they, yes, they did just get married, and maybe it was kind of a courthouse shotgun wedding situation. But also, I'm like, I think they're gonna want the big party. So I'm I think they're probably being smart about this, you know? My favorite part about this though. Not that it's not smart if they do that now, but you know what I'm trying to say.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I do. Um, you didn't say this, and I'm gonna I'm gonna put you on blast. When we first saw this, Rachel goes, I can't imagine Charles being a father.

SPEAKER_02

Because he's a little baby, and he's on piano, and he's got Leo. It's not that I can't imagine him being a father. I'm like, he's in my mind, he's like 22. Yeah, no, I I mean that's that's exactly how I took that.

SPEAKER_01

But I thought that was funny.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, that's hilarious. Speaking of kids, uh, we're on a roll today. We're on a roll today. Um, Lulu and Kim were seen together out and about, I think in Malibu, California, celebrating celebrating Scott Dissick's birthday. So random. But um I think Kim had all of her kids besides North, and then yeah, Carmen Lewis's mom was with.

SPEAKER_01

So Yeah, and then I saw, which we didn't find anything else about this, so I'm just gonna say this so we can move on. I saw a creator on Instagram saying that Lewis and Kim allegedly broke up after this.

SPEAKER_02

That was like two days ago, and things can obviously happen really quickly. I know.

SPEAKER_01

I'm very confused and still waiting for an F1 skims collab, so I need this to continue to raise out on.

SPEAKER_02

I don't think they're broken up, but okay. Good to know there's rumors of swirl in. We're still waiting for her to show up in the paddock. I mean, uh Monaco would be a good one.

SPEAKER_01

That would be a very isn't that the one that

SPEAKER_02

Like Kendall and I think Kendall's been to a couple, maybe like a circuit of the America situation. Okay, but not in Monaco. Maybe in Monaco. I don't know. But it's like the most um celebrity. That's like what started the celebrities because they were attending the Monaco Grand Prix. They'll watch their yachts.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, and then the other thing is just in general, is George Russell. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

I which is funny, we've been talking, we talked about him earlier. I can't find I thought I saw a post of him like on a beach somewhere, and maybe it was old, but I cannot find it. But I was like, if he's on a beach, I think he's fine.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, I don't know. I hope he's fine. Oh.

SPEAKER_02

I think my husband might be home.

SPEAKER_01

Um, but yeah, I I hope he's okay. I hope he's still in it. I think we he still has I think he still has a chance. I know Kimmy's kind of running away with the drivers' championship right now, but we have many races left.

SPEAKER_02

Many, many races.

SPEAKER_01

Kimmy cannot have great luck every single race, you know?

SPEAKER_02

No, he can't. I it's gonna run out eventually. World drivers championship up.

SPEAKER_01

So yes, we are heading into Monaco. We're gonna give a little overview of the race and kind of what to expect and then go over some predictions. But before we do that, World Drivers update. Kimmy Antonelli is in first place with 131 points. George Russell, second place with 88 points.

SPEAKER_02

So that's a 43-point deficit. I think I saw that there's only been two people recently that have come back from this deficit, one of which was Max Verstappen. And Maxi Boy is all the way in P7 with 63 points. But again, I don't know when those deficits were in the season. Because we're only five races in out of well, originally 24.

SPEAKER_01

But my thought is we are still early enough in the season that I think there could be still some competition.

SPEAKER_02

Yes, and again, we don't know what's gonna happen with Mercedes and Red Bull after these loophole eliminations. Correct.

SPEAKER_01

Like, is McLaren just gonna run away with it now? Like Lando clearly still won is hungry for it. But also Charles has never won a driver world drivers championship. Lulu is like back, his mom's coming to the races, he's not simming anymore. No, I don't know. I think I think it's still, even though everyone's like Kimmy's got it, like da-da-da. I still kind of feel like it's open.

SPEAKER_02

Charles is only 12 points behind George, and then Lulu's only three points behind Charles. Lando has a little bit more deficit behind Lewis, and then Oscar and Lando are only separated by 10, and then it's Max, Pierre, Pierre, Ollie, Liam, and that rounds out the top 10. I had to include Franco in our channel. I know you didn't. I purposely didn't say his name. No, but but he's an 11th. Franco's an 11th.

SPEAKER_01

I do think that George still has a chance. I do still think that I mean Ferrari is Ferrari, so who really knows? But I feel like they're in a good spot with the whole loophole situation getting banned.

SPEAKER_02

I think there's only more advantages coming to if you're a non-Mercedes team.

SPEAKER_01

So yeah. So we'll see. We'll see. Okay, moving on. Monica Grand, pretty. We've talked so much about this already, but there's just so much to say. There really is. This is I mean, I'm very excited. So it's been called an exceptional location of glamour and prestige. Ooh. Yes. And like we said earlier, hard to overtake, but the cars are smaller this year, so might be more exciting.

SPEAKER_02

I think there will be more overtaking. I don't know if it's gonna be as easy as maybe people are thinking, but you know.

SPEAKER_01

Um, and we talked a little bit about the triple crown earlier. But yes, Monaco is part of that with the Indy 500 and the 24 Hours of Lamont. It's been running since 1929, the Monaco Grand Prix. Again, iconic. Iconic. Um, pretty dangerous as far as a track because of elevation changes and then tight corners and the tunnel.

SPEAKER_02

There have been so many almost crashes in the tunnel because I think it kind of rounds.

SPEAKER_01

And if you're turning currently, like if there's a car that gets stuck in the tunnel, yeah, and sometimes you can't see it, or if they don't warn you in time, like there's no marshall that's gonna be like doing acrobats anything out of the tunnel. Um it also, like we were saying, is tight corners, cars are harder to pass. So in 2024, it has 2024. If you watch Drive to Survive, 2024 was like one that they highlighted. It's kind of like an iconically boring race. And Max Mac, I put a Max quote, he said he needed a pillow during the 2024 Grand Prix because the top qual 10 qualifiers were just how the race ended.

SPEAKER_02

100%. Yeah, so that's why people that's why I think if you don't normally watch qualifying, you need to for Monaco. Like that's where it gets really exciting, is that is mostly where your race results are coming from.

SPEAKER_01

And qualifying can kind of be all over the place. Yes, like sometimes it's like, oh yeah, the typical whatever, but then other times it's like randomly Isaac Hajars in P1. So that'll be fun. So fun. Last year one Lando Norris won. Woo! So that was fun. And then 2024.

SPEAKER_02

Iconic. Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque won the Monaco, Monaco Grand Prix.

SPEAKER_01

And I would I didn't put this in there, but there has not been many Monegasques that have won the Monaco Grand Prix.

SPEAKER_02

I think Charles was, I think he's like maybe like the third.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it's it's like not uh, which I guess makes sense. There's not that many of them.

SPEAKER_02

Okay, coming back at you after a long Google session because I couldn't spell Monegasque. They kept correcting DeMosque. Um Charles is the second driver, I believe. The second Monegas driver. I believe so. Yeah, that sounds to win the Monaco Grand Prix.

SPEAKER_01

I kind of hope I mean, I don't like doing predictions, it makes me nervous, but I do kind of I wouldn't mind if Charles won.

SPEAKER_02

Oh no, I I'm kind of excited and would love him to win. I do have a Charles LeClaire jersey that I will have to bust out.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, um 2023 was Max, 2022 was Sergio, 21 was Max, COVID, and then Lulu 2019, and then 2018 was Daniel.

SPEAKER_02

Yay! Yay! Oh my god, Danny could still win the triple crown that I was saying earlier. Imagine the triple crown merch.

SPEAKER_01

He won the Monaco Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

I did, I hate that entirely a little bit. Oh my god, yeah!

SPEAKER_01

Yes, he won the monica, so now he just has to do the indie 500 and the 24 hours of the lawn. He has got that in the bag. He can do it. He can do it.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_01

Um, anyway.

SPEAKER_02

I think the only other person of note is Lulu won in 2016.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, Lulu's won a couple times, Max has won a couple times, and then we've got some Randos and then Lando won last year. Woo! Rando's is in like a Charles Leclerc series, and a Sebastian Vettel and a Nico Ross. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All the iconic like World Drivers championships.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Okay, formula run clubs.

SPEAKER_02

Literally, they're all World Drivers channels besides Sergio Perez and Charles Leclerc. Yeah. Oh, that's hilarious. Alrighty. Formula Run Club update. I have not ran any miles because my which I mean to. My mental health state has been all over the map.

SPEAKER_01

You can't run on uh cold brew forever.

SPEAKER_02

No, it's like a chain. Like I I'm tired, I drink too much cold brew, I can't sleep at night, and then I I'm tired the next day.

SPEAKER_01

Do you have a chiropractor appointment?

SPEAKER_02

No, I should go to the chiropractor. Yeah. I really should. Um, but Lexi has you're you're chipping away at your 18 miles.

SPEAKER_01

Chipping away. So we have a 10 mile next Saturday. You do? Yeah, we're doing that. Oh, you are one. Nice. Yeah, we're doing that in Stillwater. It is on the Mississippi. So it starts in St. Paul, it ends in Min Minneapolis. Fine. And then you take like a tram back to St. Paul.

SPEAKER_02

Love that for you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Um, so because of that, I have only gotten like eight miles in, I think. Oh, so I have 10 or more.

SPEAKER_02

You're at least doing 18.

SPEAKER_01

It's so nice out now. I like feel sad not going outside. I know.

SPEAKER_02

Who knows? I might feel motivated to do a mile or two.

SPEAKER_01

Walk, yeah. Walk-run, but like with your running clothes on. It counts. So funny. Start your watch. It counts.

SPEAKER_02

Like slowly work my way into it. So for our predictions for Formula Run Club, we're gonna do our little meal spinner here. So this will be for me. The anticipation. Oh Lando Norrin!

SPEAKER_01

She got a Lando. She got a Lando. This is nerve-wracking. Okay, I'm gonna do mine while you think about your place.

SPEAKER_02

Dang it. Lex Scott George again. George George Russia Russell. Russia. Um okay. I think I'm picking based off of not what I want to happen, but I think maybe realistic. Dang, boo, boo. And I'm gonna say Lando Norris P3. Okay. What are you gonna say for George? This is hard with the removal of loopholes.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, and I think last race he really would have gotten P1 or P2 if he hadn't had that. But now we have a removal of the loophole situation. I'm gonna say P God. I think he's getting it on the podium.

SPEAKER_02

I think he still will. They've been pretty Kimmy pulled pretty far ahead of the P2 pack.

SPEAKER_01

I'm thinking I'm thinking P4. Ooh, okay. Because I think that I think that because it's Monaco, I think that Lando and the Ferraris are gonna do really well. Um and I also think that I just have a feeling that Oscar's also gonna be up in the mix. Like I feel like it's gonna be Ferrari and um McLaren. I want it to be readable, but I just don't think it's going to be.

SPEAKER_02

Where did Oscar finish last year? I don't know. I didn't look that up. Not that it matters. George Oh, do you want to know where George finished last year?

SPEAKER_01

I'm not gonna change, but yeah. I feel like that's cheating now. Okay.

SPEAKER_02

It was not good. I think it was um did he like crash? No. But if I remember correctly, Kimmy, just so everyone knows, was P18 last year. Oh. And George Russell was P11. Oh.

SPEAKER_01

Oh, yeah, because Kimmy did horrible in all the Euro.

SPEAKER_02

But again, they're dominating this season. So take that with a grain of salt.

SPEAKER_01

I'm gonna say P4. I don't think he's gonna get on the podium. I I don't think Kimmy's gonna be up there either, though. Not that that matters for Formula Run Club. But I don't think I think Kimmy's break has got to break at some point. His his good luck, I mean. I think this is the time. Back to our predictions, and by our predictions, I mean our family's predictions. Yes. Um, so John. I'm gonna read what he said. I have to, he, when I asked him about Monaco, he like really took a long time to give me an answer. Normally he immediately I love that he gives you like he gives me like a whole thing. I have to be like Sogo and believe. George wins. Kimmy DNFs, Lewis gets fourth, Lando gets second, Leclerc third, and Oscar fifth. I like that.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. And then like I I get that.

SPEAKER_01

Okay. Charlie predicts Antonelli in P2, one of the Ferraris, either one. And then in P3, George. Okay. Which I love that. One of the Ferraris. And then I have an audio note from Lydia.

SPEAKER_00

Hi everyone. My predictions for the Monaco game, probably Annie and first, Louis will be second, Lando in third. And then I think George will be fourth. And then I think uh Charles and Fifth. Um, those are my predictions, but thank you.

SPEAKER_02

I love that everyone's going outside of into the top five. Yeah, they're like predicting the whole race, and I love it. I love it. Oh, absolutely incredible. Um, okay, well, my sister who was we were having a conversation and she's like, I just shouldn't predict anymore because she she thinks she's cursed because she chose George last race.

SPEAKER_01

I mean, we all did.

SPEAKER_02

And then Charles before that, where he had to spin and then the car got messed up and the penalties, and then she also predicted Oscar for Australia, but like who didn't? Yeah. So she was like, I'm not gonna pick Lando or Max. So she picked Lewis because he's been on a roll since Montreal and has been doing really well. And George and Kimmy didn't do well last year, so that's why she didn't pick them. Fair. I love Ben uh Ben, my husband, said George, but he wouldn't put money on it until he sees the qualifying results. He's not gonna be like Pharaoh, he wants to see the data. He wants to see the data. And then my mom just said Charles, Lulu, Kimmy with Lando in the mix. So I don't know what that means.

SPEAKER_01

She wants all of them to win, or is that her top five? I don't know if that's her top four, um, or what?

SPEAKER_02

And then she just had a little plug that she loved to see all of the uh world multi-world champions on the podium last week. Yes, Kimmy. So I thought that was funny. Yes, and she never got back. My dad never got back to me, um, or my sister's husband. So that's what we've got. Okay, cool. That's what we got. But it should Monaco Grand Prix, I again, it's just so iconic that you just have to hope that it's gonna be an amazing race, even though it might be kind of boring. But there is usually something exciting that happens throughout the weekend, even if it's unqualifying.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, it'll be good. Exciting. I'm excited.

SPEAKER_02

Me too. So you guys will hear from us again in a little over a week. Again, please like, subscribe, comment, leave a five star review so more people can find us. Yes. Um, thank you all so much for sticking around. This was a long episode. We had a lot to cover, we had a lot to going on. We will see you on Sunday.
